Just how effective are car alarms anyway? When I bought my 2006 honda civic, and when my friend bought her 2008 honda civic, the salesmen both raved about the car alarm system
the car salesman that I dealt with said that when the car alarm goes off, it supposedly disengages the fuel line, rendering the car to be completely inoperational.
My friend heard a similar thing. Dealer told her that once the alarm goes off, it must be turned off by key remote. Otherwise the only way to steal the car is to tow it.
sounds just too good to be true. they're bullshitting me right?

I guess you've just missed the smaller details. As cars develop, so does sucurity, it's not suprising to me if we start seeing systems like that... I mean look at HDTV and high spec computers, it just takes one person to come up with the idea and eventually it does become a reality.

car alarms are pointless...
think of it this way...
lets say youre walking in a parking lot and you hear a car alarm go off a couple of rows away...
do you go over to investigate?
probabaly not...

All a car alarm does is let everyone know within a 500' radius that you have something in your car worth stealing.

Well, I'm glad I put an alarm in, even though there's nothing of value to steal from my car. I've seen some chump piece of shit break into a car that was parked right next to mine back at the old apartment....she didn't have an alarm. I figured he noticed that blinking light and logo, and saw that she had no such protection....so he went for the easier option. Really, put yourself in the criminal's mind....Option A of whatever you want to break into has an alarm. Option B doesn't. Of course you go for Option B. Her car was old, run down and generally ugly as hell, btw....so it would at least appear that mine would be the better choice to break into at first glance...until you realize there's an alarm there.

Immobilisers are the shit.
Regular car alarms are just annoying as fuck and people just get aggravated by them as opposed to concerned.
Has ANYONE actually been woken up by a car alarm at 2:30 in the morning and though "Oh no, a car alarm! I should investigate or inform the proper authorities!". No, you think "I'm going to kill this motherfucker if he doesn't turn his car alarm off in 5 seconds, swear to god."
