Gotta remember, it's been out for a couple years. Only thing thats changed is the weapons and graphics. And speed of character movement. It's super hella slow moving on here. For me atleast. And on the first MGO, everyone spammed shotguns and snipers. Except on this one level. It was small and tight. People would camp crouched with rifles popping ankles.

I've only done the training so far, too into the single player atm. But going through training, does it seem like they actually made body shots more damaging than the beta? I swear it could take up to a full clip if you just aimed at the legs/chest. If this is true, man, maybe they really did consider some of the fan's advice.

MGO is a mixed bag, it's really beginning to grow on me again though. Was iffy during beta. Some elements of it are awesome, while some are hmm, not sure yet.

But MGS4, the single player? One of the most polished, well produced games I've ever seen, if not THE most. If you're a fan of the series, it's like a dream come true.

Yeah I was doing that for the mean time, but I guess I'm gonna have to wait til I reach another level in order to start doing the cool stuff. So instead of hitting R1 and left, R1 and right throw them to the floor? Hum I never knew that. Does it matter which way you're facing or you can do it from any angle?

I'ma try to maybe do that and then stun them right after, see if that'll work better or something.

If the CQC is the same moves as single player, then IGN.com has an ok guide on it. IGN search mgs4 guide.

I was thinking the same thing, but you can't do that triangle instant kill til like lvl 3 or something. But I don't know which lvls of what give you what ya know.

To CQC knife kill you needed level 3 knife and level 1 CQC(which took all 4 levels of skills!!) At least it was that way in Beta.

What most people do is the level 0 CQC throw and then stun knife, if done correctly it's pretty impossible to avoid...that is given lag doesn't ef you up. From there you have more options than just killing them, and it takes 0 skill levels so you can use other/better skills.

IMO, using skill points in knife is a waste, hopefully they'll do something to make it better in a patch or something. Then again, I haven't ef'd with knife skill since beta, but it looked the same from what I could tell. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

For now, make sure you have full stamina when you try to knock someone out. Also, easier way to take people out is to grab them, crouch, let go, knife the bastard with the one hit kill attack, or stun them. This works almost all of the time. Thank Litvenko for that one! (where is that guy? Hes the knife master).

As far as I know, all the CQC moves are the same from Level 1 - 3. You can get the knife instant kill when you get level 3 knife + level 1 CQC.

I haven't been playing that much because my brother is visiting and he likes to play other games... but I am doing good so far. I'm still learning the 2 new levels.. the one with all the buildings and that other dark one that is all close up fighting. I'm still getting top 3 in most of the games I play.
I'm also noticing a lot more idiots playing this time around.. like team stunning and not getting any cover. Annoying.

You are probably holding a direction at the same time as grabbing.

When you grab them, let the left analog go into neutral and push in R1 Hard. I think hitting R1 twice and/or a pushing a direction on the analog is when ya do the CQC throws n'such. Though I'm no CQC expert so I could be wrong....

I'm gonna try the crouching stun trick. When I was playing and I tried to Kinfe someone who was prone while I was kneeling with that one hit poke kill and it wouldn't register. CQC TACTICS

I've been playing around with this lately and this is what I have found so far. I'm sure there's more to it, but this what I know as of today.

First off, equip the CQC "perk." I've always had it equipped when playing around with CQC, so I don't know what happens when you try to do CQC without the perk equipped - my guess is that he just does melee attack.

UNEQUIPPED / PISTOL / OTHER
You can perform CQC Grab in either state: unequipped, holding pistol, or other (such as holding C4). I would recommend using the pistol method though (which just means you switch your weapon to pistol). You'll most likely be running around the map with your primary weapon equipped. When you approach your enemy, the quickest thing to do is to switch to your pistol (tap R2), then you're ready for CQC. If you unequip your weapon, it takes a lot more time 'cause you have to hold R2 and select unequip (unless someone knows a faster way?). Switching to your C4 or other requires 2 R2 taps. So pistol is quickest. Another advantage of using pistol is that you can also use your opponent as a shield while shooting with pistol.

CQC THROW
Equip pistol, approach enemy, hold R1 + hold any direction on left stick. When you level up in CQC perk, I believe the throw does more damage. At level one, each throw doesn't take off very much. Probably more effective to throw someone on ground then quickly shoot them as they're getting up. Or better yet, if you're traveling with a partner, have the partner shoot them on the floor after you throw 'em. I'm currently at lvl 1 CQC, can't wait to see how much damage lvl 2 & 3 deal.

CQC GRAB STANDING
Equip pistol, approach enemy, hold R1 (left stick must be neutral otherwise you throw them). A lot of times you'll be standing right next to the guy, and it'll be so obvious that you totally grabbed him, but you will whiff instead. It's so annoying. Probably due to factors like latency and the grab's detection box. I tried practicing in on dummies and with it standing still, whiffs will still occur. Maybe it also has to do with the opponent's current physical state (meaning can only be grabbed while doing xxx or not doing xxx).


DRAG - Continue holding R1, move around.
THROW LEFT/RIGHT - Release R1, then quickly press left/right + R1. (I believe opponent stands up on his own?)
THROW FRONT - Release R1, then quickly press forward/back + R1. (I believe opponent stays lying on the floor?)
HUMAN SHIELD - Hold L1. You can now let go of R1. You should be holding opponent in one arm, and aiming pistol with the other. Press R1 to shoot. Opponent will free himself eventually.
CHOKE - Continue holding R1, but press it more firmly. When stamina is depleted, enemy is stunned.
SWITCH TO CROUCH GRAB - Continue holding R1, press X. Toggles crouch/stand stance.

CQC GRAB CROUCHING
Equip pistol, approach enemy while crouching, hold R1.

RAPE CHOKE™ - Release R1, quickly press forward/back + R1. FUCKING OWNED !
CHOKE - Continue holding R1, but press it more firmly. When stamina is depleted, enemy is stunned.

WAKING STUNNED OPPONENT / ALLY
Crouch in front of them, press triangle until all stun stars are removed. (Probably lots of faster ways)

HIDING IN BOXES
Becomes even more deadly. More info later.

You can go in to the training lobbies and practice on dummies.

You have to hold Select down until it says "Voice On" on the side. Also, to have the voices come through the headphone on your mic, go to the options menu and look through it, one of the last tabs has the option to let you pick where you want the voice output to come through, but I can't remember which option it is.

At lvl 3 you can disarm your opponents primary gun by pressing and holding R1 again right when the grab is initiated. It takes some practice.

To quickly lvl up your CQC, just join a CQC room. The sleeper hold while you're on top of the opponent is the quickest way to boost CQC lvl.

I use my pistol for far range then when I get close, BAM shotgun that shit.

Otherwise, its kind of hard to use... but I really wonder how effective it will be on lvl 3.
It seems like out of most of the guns, the shotgun should be a lot better at lvl 3.

Yeah. On page 51 in the instructions manual, on the bottom, there's an "ID Memo" where you can write down your Game ID & Password. Then of course there's the "Notes" on the very last page where you can write your Konami ID & Password.

I'm not a huge fan of the "time invested" = "character improvement" gaming model. I don't have a lot of time to put into "leveling up".

I dunno, I like the system they implemented. Sure, you can level up skills, but you have to sacrifice more slots to place an upgraded skill, which leaves less room for other ones. For example, you can either pick four Level 1 skills and do just fine, or level up a favorite skill to level 3(doesn't that long at all, depending on which skill)and pair it with a level 1 skill if you prefer to specialize. Either way, leveling up skills won't ever give you that big advantage, and in some ways can actually limit your options so I wouldn't worry if I were you. The only exception would be the CQC+ skill, which limits what you can do depending on what level you are, but that's the only one I can think of that works that way. A headshot is a headshot after all no? So someone having a Level 3 Assault Rifle+ skill won't have much of an advantage if you just shoot them in the face.

Anyways, there was like only 3 or 4 of you online tonight. Too bad. I got a solid three hours of play time with MGO tonight and I'm really getting into it. I did a lot better then I thought I would.

depends on the match your playing. if youre playing a knives only match, OBV you learn knives faster. But you can also do knives/cqc/running in that same game because it allows it.

I think my two gripes right now are, no assist stat. Lot of teamwork goes into many kills, often. And shaking the Left Analog Stick does jack all still. Figured they'd make that beefier to shake holds within a reasonable amount of time.

I did just now. You need to add me in the game itself as well, not just the PSN, simply because Konami HAD to make playing something online on the PSN even MORE annoying.

Anyways, I really wish there was a way to filter out games that do not use Drebin points. I just hate it when DP is turned off, since it limits so much and is a lot less fun. I'm surprised so many people leave it off.

How do you level up you skills? I've had level 2 CQC, Handgun, Assult Rifle, & Scanner for the longest time. Is level 2 the hightest you can go? Also how do you level up? I've been on level 3 for a while too.
