What is it?
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Bloggers can use it as a mini-blogging tool. Developers can use the API to make Twitter tools of their own. Possibilities are endless!

Does anyone on SRK beside gootecks, omni, and myself use Twitter? I'd love to expand my network!

Twitter has to be used in order to be understood to say the last. I've written a couple of posts on my blog:

What Is Twitter And Why Should You Use It? (http://ryangutierrez.com/content/what-twitter-and-why-should-you-use-it)
Twitter For Friends: The Art And Science Of Efficient Communication (http://ryangutierrez.com/content/twitter-for-friends-the-art-and-science-efficient-communication)
Twitter For Bands And Musicians: A How-To Guide (http://ryangutierrez.com/content/twitter-for-musicians-and-bands-a-how-to-guide)

Long story short, you should start using it now because you'll be using it in 6-9 months whether you decide to do it now or not. :)

Disclaimer: even if twitter goes the way of friendster, the idea of one-way, non-interruptive social network communication is here to stay and another service will take its place. :)

The simple fact is that I have enough to keep me occupied via Myspace/Facebook, unless Twitter completely steals the marketshare, I have no interest in getting another social network account.

facebook ftw

I agree. If all the friends I wanted to talk to would move to facebook, I would completely do away with my myspace account.

Otherwise, most of my time is spent on facebook.

talking about driving socializing to a minimum. There really is no need for it when there is already facebook.

This is not the same thing as facebook. Consider the "What are you doing?" feature of facebook. This is sort of like, only without all the other crap clogging it up. In fact, you can link the two such that when "tweet" it updates your status on facebook.

Twitter's primary function is to keep your friends and colleagues up to date with what you're doing, and conversely to keep up with their activities. However, the uses of Twitter go far beyond that.

Bah, just read gootecks' articles and go sign up!
