Which do you prefer?
I would usually go with over ear but recently I've blown so many that I'm starting to lean the other direction.

In ear causes more stress to the ear no?
I prefer different ones for different situations. Portability and movement = In-ear. Less movement = On-ear.

Over ear. I don't really like anything in my ear.
And, uh...no...versus threads..?

Where's the poll?
Over ear headphones seem too clunky for me, and if they're small and light i usually can never hear the bass. Right now i'm using some bose in ear headphones and they're pretty much sex for your ears. I'd recommend it.

Over ear because the inner ear ones actually make my ears hurt.

ear plugs/buds.
Over ear, no contest. To don on a pair of large headphones is to forsake the outside world.

I use in-ear plugs when i'm exercising because they are light and don't come out.
For all other times I use big ol' over-the-ear headphones.

Over ear for quality.
In ear for portability. I really only use these to listen to podcast during my travels.

Over ear headphones would surround in ear headphones and crush them, so it wins.
I don't use in ear headphones. They make my inear ears hurt. Especially when the cushon falls off one and you're having it scrape the skin.
Large over ear headphones that keep the sound in and keep everything else out are what I use.
Are these actual terms for headphones?

I got an MP3 player with deep inner ear phones which even on the lowest volume made the hair in my ear vibrate so I know that's not healthy, which is why I switched them. I use inner ear but only the type that doesn't enter the ear canal.
I don't want to be deaf by the time I'm 50.

OVER EAR! I can't stress that enough. Inner ear is really bad for your ears.
Try living with tinnitus for one week.
You would give anything to have never used ear buds.

I go with "on ear" also.
Over ear gives better sound but is intrusive to me. In ear is too intense for me; my hearing is pretty well above average anyway.

I prefer normal over ear head phones, but I use the in ear ones a bunch too because they're easier to put away when I'm on the go and especially at the gym

Buds don't stay in my ear and in-ear just fucking hurt. Over-ear that cover the ENTIRE ear(meaning it cups around the ear-lobe) are my fav. That shit is COMFORTABLE.

Over ear for me, unless I'm running...in which case, ear buds.

Like others - it depends what I'm doing. If I'm walking/skating I like to use earbuds because A) I'll sweat and sweating with my huge ass over-ear headphones is just kinda gross to be honest. Not to mention I'm scared of getting hit by cars when my ears are completely enveloped like that. Also if I'm exercising, again with the sweating, I prefer earbuds. Otherwise I like over ear headphones as the quality is better and you can listen to them louder without damaging your ears and shit.

In terms of sound over the ear serve the shit out of buds.
Mobility and versatility hands down buds take that shit.

The earbuds I'm using right now. Worth the price and the sound quality is much better then some of the lesser earphones I had in the past. I don't have a problem hurting my ears ( I don't "blast" my music loud). The only problem I've had with earbuds is that I lose the earbud pieces often and probably went through buy a couple of replacement sets. If a person tends to misplace and lose things, then earbuds might not be the way to go.

Higher end earbuds all the way. I have a set of Shure E2Cs, they are great. Pretty comfortable to wear, great sound, portable, non obtrusive, and they drown out the outside world. Plus most of the time I'm using headphones, it's on the train or something and it's easier to take a nap if you're wearing earbuds.
If earbuds are too loud for you, TURN THE VOLUME DOWN. It's not that hard.

Over.

07-10-2008, 09:13 PM
over, in it just makes my ear hole sore, and I generally don't listen to music while exercising and stuff
Over the ear. I've grown accustomed to actually feeling the vibration on my ear, and having the actual music hit it to the point where when I use earbuds, I feel like something is missing.

The term in ear isn't really accurate in my case, 'cause those damn things fall out all the time.

Say you're outside walking near a busy road with cars driving by. If I turn the volume up enough to just be able to hear my music at a comfortable level, with earbuds in my ears, I feel like I am slowly giving myself ear drum damage. However if it encompasses my entire ear I can hear it relatively loudly without it being... intrusive?

I use the clip-on headphones because I mainly use them when I am at the track and for some reason in ear ones won't stay in my ears while jogging.

I've got a pair of these that I use at work, that don't fall out and are pretty comfortable. Also super cheap
I've also got a pair of decent earbuds, wrap around headphones, and also big headphones.
You can find pretty much any kind for cheap. Which pair I use depends on what I'm doing.

I dont see how people can even compare these.
I'll never ever wear an ear bud again. I've had my sony headphones for like 6 years now and they work flawlessly. They've taken a beating and the frame is all mangled and held together by electrical tape, but I'll never fucking wear ear buds.
Even at the gym I got my over the ear headphones on and they never ever fall off or slide around.

lol, i'm going to assume you are talking about these?

i've had two pairs and both frames broke within about a month and had to be fixed with tape. i've seen a few other people wearing them... also with tape around the frame somewhere.
lately i've been wearing a pair of AKG K 171s (http://www.akg.com/site/products/powerslave,id,1062,pid,1062,nodeid,2,_language,EN. html) for walking to and from work, etc. absolutely love them and the detachable cable is one of the most amazing features i never thought i would want in pair of headphones.

Ya thats them. They only broke because when I was in highschool I would keep them in my backpack where they would find there way to the bottom. The frame for the headphone piece broke cause I kept dropping my bag down when I'd sit. The actual frame that goes over your head is still in tact though.
I dont think I'd ever buy any non Sony brand headphone (not that there aren't better ones).

Like a lot of people said here, in ear for when I'm moving/working and over when I'm at home on the computer.
EDIT: I loved those phillips $10 bass ear phones. Them motherfuckers made everything sound so good. Too bad them things blow out in less then a weak.

Over-the-ear gave me rashes and soreness, and in-ear are just superior price and noise-wise. You can't hear anything while using them, but your ears have to be squeaky clean or there's major cleanup. Earbuds are nearly worthless, being somewhere in-between the two types mentioned and are just consistently cheap (quality-wise). Skullcandy gets it done in-ear for $10 most places...

In ear for mobile stuff.

In ear definitely. There's nothing more annoying than having a quiet time of the day ruined by one jackass and his disturbingly loud over ear headphones.
I don't find too much earwax on my earphones, probably because I clean out my ears every day. And it's also not sick because I don't share my headphones with anyone else.
*Edit* -- I realized from the above post that my decision is biased based on people in public. At home on the computer, I do prefer my more expensive over the ear headphones. But anything mobile is definitely in ear.
