So I wanted to make a post regarding something all of us know, but need to hear again from time to time. We have all been told, "Turn down that music! You are going to have the hearing of a 70 year old at 25!". Most of us that frequent shows/concerts/parties know it's a good thing to wear ear plugs. I almost always wear ear plugs, expect for July 5th, 2008 when I permanently fucked my ears.

I've been to dozens shows just as loud or louder without ear plugs, but on the morning of the 6th I woke up with a huge ringing in both of my ears and a terrible pressurized feeling in my skull. I've been to two doctors and both said I caused permanent damaged to my hearing.

The worst part about this whole thing is, the ringing has not gone away (its the 14th). It sounds like a fucking public service announcement in my head, 24/7. Now the ringing may still go away in time, but there is a decent chance that this is permanent, and will only get worse as I age.

So listen up SRKers!! Wear ear plugs when you go to shows!!!! Seriously. I wouldn't wish this shit on my enemies.

Anyone here have tinnitus themselves? How do you guys deal?

Damn what kind of show did you go to man?

Really sorry to hear about this. I'll think about this in the future.

DJ Kentaro at a beach party in Tottori. I guess he's the DMC champion of 2002. I got pretty close to the stage cuase I wanted to see his hands. After about 40min I was out, but it was too late.

To make things worse, Japan is taunting me with this fucking semi season. I want to smash every fucking semi I hear.

For people who don't know what semi are, they are giant insects that make a loud hissing or ringing noise. Sounds a lot like tinnitus.

:u: Cicadas. And my house is next to a bunch of trees full of those loud fucks.

That sucks man, hope it goes away. I finally figured out that loud noises kill cells in your ear. Until recently I could always hear the high pitch TVs make when they're on, but that's gone now. These days I watch how close I sit next to speakers at club/bars/parties, and I have some earplugs handy if whatever venue I'm at gets loud enough.

I never understood the appeal of music so loud that it's actually painful.
Friend of mine used to blast his music on headphones, and he's pretty much deaf in one ear now.

Aren't there ear drops for Tinnitus? I'm sure I came across tinnitus when I was studying physiology.

when you sleep, put a fan or leave your computer on. Leave a soundtrack cd of waves to help you sleep.

Believe it or not smoking can affect your hearing as well.

Right now it's hot as shit so I sleep with an air-con over me. That kills most of the ring. But if I roll over and cup my ear on the pillow it blocks out the outside sound and I get pure ring. I also grind and clench my teeth when I sleep which doesn't help.

Also, I looked up a bunch of shit and didn't see anything about ear drops. I don't know how they would work.

Another lame thing I didn't mention that is that I want to/wanted to make music for video games for a living. Now I don't know if I should continue with music. If I do, I need to be very careful.

I get that shit every time I get a throat infection, my hearing got fucked up in my left ear because of it...

I just remember wanting to smash my head into a wall when I got real bad, sucks ass...

Edit: There are some Tinnitus treatment ads at the top of this thread, that's a feature I didn't know about...
