I got smashed in the 3s tourney mostly cuz I was fqsinated by sf4. There were 10 machines with 2player cp's and only 1 was active so instead of 20 players at a time here were 10. That being said I was on the south machine with my back facing the tourney area. There were slot of srk'rs on that machine. 2 of mention were a huge black guy who was killing with ken, and a pair of guys playing zqnghief 1 of the playd with his arms crossed like right hand on stick. I got like 5 games in in like 8 houres. I got crushed I only used chun and able. Overall it's a fantastic game that I didn't even break the skin on.

I landed Zangief's headbutt quite a bit, especially on Dictator. It's got decent range and does a respectable chunk of damage but doesn't stun like it used to. I landed two within seconds of each other and still didn't stun. Still a usable normal.
Cliche as it's become, it really is true. You have to see SF4 in person to appreciate it.
And for Kunai: I tried my own suggestion of trying to Focus Attack Blanka's Ultra on his way down. If you do it, it suddenly goes into its other hits much faster. D'oh.
In case nobody's mentioned it, Honda's Headbutt vs Zangief is nothing more than a Psycho Crusher now. Lariat totally owns it.

Zangief's had a hopping headbutt, too. It looks like Urien's.

You people's tiers are all wrong. Right now everyone but Viper, Fuerte, and Dhalsim is competitive with everyone else. Of those three, I say only Dhalsim stands no hope of being any good unless some game-changing glitch is discovered.
You want to beat Zangief for free? Pick Guile or Bison(dic). Abel and Sagat also seem to give Gief lots of trouble at times. Practically every single loss I had at Evo was to one of those four characters.
there are dfinately tiers. Zanghief and everyone else..
Yeah, I now sorta see what SRK japan had to go through when good players like Jinrai (white guy with glasses?) used geif.
As for Rufus. I saw how the japanese played that fat fubber. Kunai was right. He's got waay to much going for him. Safe, high prioritized moves, can combo into his ultra, so on. His spin eats up fireballs too, which no one seemed to know? What was Ono thinking there?
Back to the japanese. I forget which one played Sagat, but his combo into TU, fa cancel into ultra was beautiful.

I guess it just feels that way to me since I saw you go 2 7 win streaks with him, I saw others doing it too. I never saw a 7 win streak with chun, viper, guile,Honda, or blanka or dhalsom. The only winners I saw there were zang & dictator & Abel & ken. It will take the game being released and lots of play time before we get an accurate tier structure. thanks alot to jinrai for all the help and info. You are god tier. Do you play 3s on 2DFP? I'm I'm there under HUGEBALLS meet me in there some time.
That was me. And I'm telling you again, Zangief and Rufus are really good, but they're NOT godlike. At least I can speak for Zangief.
No doubt. I actually had that in my original post, 'not god like'. Dunno why I took it out. I totally agree on Bison beating Gief. Devil's reverse kills lariat, and seems safe from SPD retaliation on block at max range. Dunno if it beats his EX green hand. Scissors keeps gief out of range too :D s.mk and s.hk keeps him at bay as well. I am probably forgetting a few things... so tired/sleepy.
Found out EX stomp looses to EX honda FHB, but (ex) stomp kills DP.

So I had my SF4 experience today as well. During the ST finals one of the machines turned on, after a few seconds of debating I said screw it and jumped on. I basically played up to the invitational. Anyways, here are my thoughts.
You've all read it before but even the best HD quality quicktimes don't give a good representation of the graphic delivery. It is really a joy to see this game move up close and personal. Now this is just my opinion but I like the graphic style a lot.
I was only able to play the CPU and it had to be on easy cuz I wasn't playing with Chun particularly well. I did get to Seth however, until Tony Cannon had to shut my machine off. All good, no one blamed me for playing and knew I couldn't have turned it on myself. I was able to pull off jump in fierce, fierce, kikkoken, super... which felt good. I also tried standing jab ,standing short, super old alpha style but didn't seem to work. That is getting pretty specific and I know Azreal has covered a lot of Chun Li stuff so I will skip the details.
I will say that playing is an adjustment. There was this real tool right behind me who kept saying "the game's EX, the game's EX" and it was impossible to tune him out. I don't think it plays like EX in the slightest. But I had to get to used to the mechanics and in the very short time I played, I don't think I was quite adjusted. Timing was very very new and I saw that rush down is possible with Chun but I had difficulty getting the timing just right. ST, Alpha and 3S tactics for her all don't quite work so it is almost an all new game for me. Let alone the new jumping and combo mechanics. I also imagine that her only good cancel is her kikkoken but damned if I was able to get anything good out of it.
I am getting side tracked so I will just say this. I liked the game and very much forward to getting to spend real time with it. Everyone has their opinions about the game, this one is mine.

well sim aint as bad as i thought he was when i first played as him at evo... there was a sim player there who although not particularly great, had a DAMN GOOD tactic: jump, air teleport to other side of screen or in place and do a fierce air punch. the tactic was good cause of dhalsims range AND angle of the jumping fierce and the tactic was highly spammable, the sim player was using it against valles dictator (first time valles used him) and it got the sim some mindgames to work with. unfortunately the sim never mixed it up with drills or jumping strong so it became easy for alex to beat. however i DID notice alex had to formulate a strategy to deal with it. this tactic makes sim look like he might be a great runaway character versus a keepaway character like he usually has been. i got it all on vid tho so u guys can see it for yourselves when i learn how to put it up on youtube.
overall i'd say the characters bare a slight resemblance to guilty gear in one aspect: they've ALL got some bullshit stuff to cheese it up 'cept for maybe c.viper and fuerte, although fuerte looks like he might be on some a3 guy type stuff 'cause he's fast as hell... only time will tell.
balrog can cr. jabx3, headbutt, juggle with ultra OR super.
let me say that again: he can headbutt HITCONFIRM into either super and and he can also land AA headbutt super!!!
it's a rather easy ass combo that seems to deal way too much damage for the ease of execution and simple utility of the combo... but o well... moving on.
gief gets owned HARD by guile i took out a few5- 6 game winstreak geifs with guile. the matchup may not be as bad as it looks right now but he really needs to think to get around those HIGH ASS sonic booms. guile seems to be the king of keepaway right now as i was even giving ryus and sagats a hard time from full screen... ex boom is murder.
bison also rocks gief cause of that damn (psycho press?) the down up punch move hes always had. it out prioritizes giefs lariat unless timed PERFECTLY. i was forced to use sa's against it with mediocre results.
also with guile if some one jumps over your sonic boom and you have no time for cr. fierce but can still block. throwing out the occasionall AA saving attack parry yields good results with okay timing (came up with that one on my own) "laughs".
vegas still a piece of high priority lightning fast bullshit... moving on.
abel is really good, just spam that rekka throw stuff (didnt use him)
ken is jump in crossup, strong, fierce hit confirm into uppercut into saving attack dash cancel into ??? he seems pretty strong.
sagat is THE MAN! hes been nerfed on the range of his normals but he's got some solid tactics too be sure, such as knock enemy down ex tiger knee as they get up. if ranged right and well timed this will crossup leading into combos i assume. dont quote me though as i was told this on sunday and couldnt confirm it.
hes still the man tho, cr.fierce to your nuts will do some ridiculous damage, just not from half screen anymore.
overall sf4 DOES seem like ex (actually it looks like it) but it has the feel of ST, especially the way the hits register, it's not squishy like 3rd strike but it has the saving attack parry making 3S presence felt albeit in a much more balanced to gameplay way.
the graphics are phenomenal. i mean really, PHENOMENAL so good that i didnt notice everything at first like the way characters reel when blocking stuff, the blur effect when guile throws a boom (like when light gets bent cause of heat) the back ground shading. and so much more.
etc. etc.
i got lots of videos but missed the sf4 invitational cause my flight was at 8:mad:

I played it at Evo and I found it to be a little disturbing in some situations and promising in others. For example, I did not like the fact that when ken barely hit me with his ultra, I get automatically teleported to him and eat the whole ultra. I was jumping backwards too and in the air away from him at the time. I saw some crazy focus cancel comboes. For example, crossover medium kick, into low forward into dragonpunch, focus cancelled to a forward dash and ultra/super. I think that is the key in this game. Everything is about the focus system. Its similar to parry but dumbed down a lot. I think the revision to this game (that is supposedly already in development) will have a TON of tweaked mechanics. Only time will tell...

SNK Ranbu super.

You meant to say the exact opposite right?
Guile will be good until people actually learn how to play the game for real and consitently use Focus Attack cancels/EX cancels etc consistently. Then it's a toss up.
Random prediction.
Edit: Also, there were a few Balrog players who were doing really well.

Ummm... This is a Capcom game, and Street Fighter at that. The mechanics for SNK were wierd to begin with.
You meant to say the exact opposite right?
No... I mean it parries one hit, but then if you get hit afterwards, you take the damage as intended. One thing I thought was kind of cool was that you temporarily lose your life, but gain it back over a period of time. It's kind of a toss up though. I guess technically, you could parry the first hit and try to dash out. I'm not sure if that is possible. BTW... I was the Ryu playing a hella 3rd strike style Ryu :)
One thing I did not test but wanted to know: Is it possible to cancel a move into super ala 3rd strike style or is that only though dash/focus attack cancelling?

in defense to not using drills, they suck in SF4, they are not safe, unless they hit low, and there slow and devil reverse beats them, valle would have easily picked up on that
as for a sim game breaking glitch
...on knockdown.
you can do his ultra teleport behind, and do a mixup, behaves kinda like the aegis reflector but not unblockable. i also landed that on valle.
but his jump teleport fierce is highly spamable, and if they jump up with you jumping strong takes care of them.

I played this game hella at evo. I was random white kid standing around the same machine for hours. I played abel alot and some M. Bison and C.viper, with a smattering of random other characters.
Abel is tons of fun. I really like him as a character. Also I 7 streaked at least twice with him.....
M.Bison is fun to play and really fucking good. St. RH is godlike anti-air and anti-fireball from the right range. You can use EX head stomp or devil reverse to negate all pressure on him.... and his combo is easy and does good damage.
I think everyone seems at least decently strong except for Dhalsim, who imo is the worst.
Oh yeah congrats jinrai you did good. I was that guy that talked to you randomly about all sorts of stuff for awhile. Yeah GG to all I played.

I was surprised that I was able to get a 7 game winning streak with my Ryu. "Juice Box Abel" really had me goin. I felt pretty dern stupid though: I tried to Metsu Hadouken him thinking I'd anticipate a counter but instead Abel's ultra went right through my fireball. And it happened twice - ended up getting a few laughs out of it too!
Honestly I was scared of going against Jinrai's Zangief (if I'm not mistaken). BUT!!! I was able to beat him: it was definitely a close match! I just REALLY tried to stay outta the air and not throw consecutive fireballs all day. Pokes, mind games, and relfexes definitely helped me win. Thanks for the GG man!
Had an opportunity to go against Nuki and Kindebu... They tag teamed me and my Ryu with their Rufus. Kindebu in rounds 1 and 3 demolished me. But I won a round against Nuki (surprisingly). Then again he might've been holding back. :-(

Jinrai's Gief was fun to watch...he punished anyone thagtb didnt time their jump attacks properly. Gief isnt god tier imo but if you dont play him properly players like jinrai will eat you for breakfast
i played around with ken and ryu alot...ryu's fireballs are really fast. the possibilities with the focus attacks/cancel seem endless but time will tell
i actuall combo'd ex fireball into ultra combo midscreen with Ryu, jinrai got that on tape.
but i really want to become a force in this game ill be in the dojo with sf4 asap

i played a lot of ryu ken and sagat. I think everyone here knows how I feel about the game at this point. Ill just say there was some pretty ridiculous stuff going on at some points. I love the special move focus attack cancel into dash mix ups. :D

yeah man i feel you on the shitty drills but i was mostly thinking about the wiffed RH. drill to get you grounded quickly, at which point you could threaten with st. fierce or fire ball or another jump teleport. would have given alex more to think about than just zoning your teleport fierce. but we were and still are learning the game. btw i was the guy who had the small winstreak with gief before valle took me off the sticks.
