The official blog was updated today with some mysterious talk about "something" that will happen this Friday. Basically, they say it's something that many fans have been waiting for, and the key to this mysterious something is defeating Seth - and not doing it "half-heartedly".

I would take it with a truckload of salt, but my take on it is that Gouki will appear as a hidden boss, a la ST or 2I. It could be something else entirely, of course, but I don't think it would be unreasonable.

That would be great. One of my biggest disappointments with SF4 has been console exclusive characters, so the possibility of time released arcade characters would be really cool, and I think could keep the hype strong.

Gouki's been on the "where's *insert fighter name*" list long before we saw the first anime trailer, before even SF4-style Sheng Long was revealed, and as soon as we learned of the "sketches" tidbit from the French magazine Consoles+ late last year.

Time release features are based on how long the machine has been operative usually, or how long the machine has been played, not on a specific date. Even in this case, for the 15th, its just XX days operative since it went live.

Sure thing. Exclusives to time-release methods were the survival, dramatic, and final battle modes. Those that also allowed code inputs if arcade players couldn't wait it out were selecting playable Juni, Juli, and Boxer, as well as the classical and mazi modes.

T6 had patches that added content on certain dates that added much to the game, thanks to it being networked. This is exactly what's gonna happen now.

In the past it was based on how many hours the game was on, or if the games internal timer was correctly configured.

Hidden bosses were usually fought by not losing a round on default settings, at least that's what's usually reccomended to aim for for such things. I'm sure it will be pretty much the same here, double perfect is a bit, what's the phrase? Fucked up?

It's been a while since I played the Alpha series but I know you can get away with lost rounds on ST.

In SX, you need around a 600,000 score or more by the time you reach the final stage and no continues.

Zero 2 you need just 3 perfects, the 5 super/original finishes are for fighting your rival.

2nd Impact's the most brutal IMO. Perfects during regular fights as well as at least one more perfect or super art finish fighting Gouki in order to bring out Shin Gouki.

That's definitely gotta be Saturn-only. I've gotten him to appear even if I've lost rounds to the bosses, but never from continuing. For the arcade at least, it boils down to three things: staying healthy (perfect finishes or as close to them as possible), finishing fast (lots of seconds on the timer), finishing hard (super combo finishes). Those three drive up your score more than anything else, and several times over when you fight the bosses as well.

Edit: I should note the machine setup screen has an option called PASSWORD, where the guy entered the code and it said Gouki unlock:cpu (or close to)

here's all the akuma info i could find:

he's unlocked by a code that someone with the keys to the machine needs to put in. it's "c5hsp3gn". once you put it in (there's a "password" menu) it says "Gouki (CPU)". sounds to me like there will be some kind of akuma playable.

i don't know exactly what conditions you need to satisfy, but i played through the game trying to get as many perfects, ultra finishes, and super finishes as i could. you can lose a round or two to seth and still get him, i think.

a few notes:

he does have EX moves. looks like EX demon flip takes him completely across the screen, and EX hurricane kick is stationary like ryu's.

i'm pretty sure his ultra is the raging demon, and it goes pretty damn far.

it's an easier boss fight than seth is, IMO.

i took some videos with my camera phone. they royally SUCK - i had no idea the shit was THAT bad - but watch it if you want. there's a raging demon or two in there somewhere. check it out here:

Balance. Gouki was the only character with access to multiple supers (whatever SA picked and SGS, as well as the Kongou Koukuretsuzan in 3S). They thought it would be too much advantage for him to have EX moves on top of multiple supers when no one else did, so they left out EX moves for him.

I'm assuming since he has EX moves this time around, he'll have only one super and one ultra like everyone else.

Also, glad to see he's confirmed finally. Now we await for Gouken to get unlocked.

it's "date based" because Capcom sends out the codes on that date, i think. once you have the code, i'd think anyone should be able to use it.

Wow, that was sad. That guy tore Gouki apart. I really hope the AI is beter than that otherwise this will be really disappointing. He looks good though and his entrance is pretty sweet.

They need to take his shit back to the X-Men:COTA days - he was fast as hell, did insane damage and blocked everything you threw at him. I beat the AI once I think and that was by timing him out and repeatedly using Wolverine's drill claw/healing super constantly. Scrub-tastic, I know but that was the start of my SF experience and I didn't know any better.

I just wonder if he's got some more angle options... if that be the case, he could very well be a fucking monster. I've seen two noticeable options so far - very vertical (probably lp?), and nearing 45 degrees (mp? hp?).

I really dig how they kept similar with his 3s moveset animations. The sweep, and many punches animate similar to his SF3 counterpart. It really separates his visual style from ryu and ken. Bitchen.

So if you throw out the lp fireball and land first and dash up you might still have some of the fireball in the screen

this is a lot of pressure to put on the opponent.

Wow the art direction completely took me by suprise: I was expecting a full on, hulked out monster of Akuma but instead he looks smaller than Ryu/Ken. Strange considering he is normally depicted as per the above descriptions on the artwork etc.

yea i definitely heard some of the cvs2 shin akuma battle. his intro is badass though no doubt. i'm still iffy on that ex air hadou... why 2? the zoning abilities with that are not gonna be fun to run against. especially since he falls with them. still... nice welcoming back for him.
