Hey All,
Just a quick thread to start the fun.
Yifans Arcade on Queen street in Auckland city New Zealand got it's (First two) SFIV machines this morning.
So what did the day bring us?
Crazydiamond beat some random Guile Guy with Blanka, and we would have demolished my Rufus if he hadn't of had to get back to work (Let me win).
I got a 5 game streak with Claw, We had some minor lag, so there was a few missed Ultras and whiffed pokes here and there. I beat out another Blanka, a Guile, a Ken and Two El Fuertes before succumming to another Guile.
There was some tight Boxer play also, he has great normals, great air, great rush-down, heck I'm considering him for my third main.
I'm very impressed with the look of the game, it feels like a true blend of most of the Sf titles, (Claw tactics form ST work fairly well too).
So for all of my kiwi brothers (and those visiting us from overseas), Come to Yifans and play some. There was (And probably still is) a fair crowd there this afternoon, I only wish we'd have seen more C.viper etc rather than all that Guile. . . lol!
Drop us a post here if you're keen for making a time / day for heading into the city.
Lastly: Perhaps someone can answer a quick question: Most players had some trouble dashing after a successful SA crumple hit, including myself; what's the best technique for a guaranteed dash cancel?

LUCKY BASTARDS!!! I live in Christchurch!!!!!
I'm so jealous right now.
Next business trip to Auckland I'm going to stay at timezone ;)
Hope you pour enough money into to make it worth Timezone bringing some cabs down to little ol CHCH.
Cool to hear it made it to NZ and some SRK brethren are putting it through it's paces. Also good to know I'll have some locals to play come time for the console release :)

Hey Munta, Timezone are slack, they aren't getting it for a while (At least a couple of months) because quote "It's too expensive" and that's from the horses mouth.
It is $2 a game at Yifans, looks like they'll make all the cream from getting it nice and on time. . . lol!
Next time you're heading for Auck post up here brother, we'll meet up with the other brothers for a challenge for sure.
lag? damn i guess the only way to get the full SF4 experience is to drop the 20000g.

It boggles the mind that you New Zealanders would get this game before us in Australia. To be best of my knowledge there are no machines here in Melbourne yet.

Yeah I heard they tried it in Auckland but it wasn't making enough coin. They probably put it in a movie theatre lobby or some shit.
The local timezone owner down here was bummed out because of this no two players on one cab halabaloo. Making the game too pricey. :shake:
But yeah.... Next time I'm up in Auckland doing some corporate pavement art I'll hit you guys up for some games. If you see you a smelly tall hippy homeless looking guy covered in chalk you'll know that my pilgrimage has been successful :wgrin:
Screw it! if Yifan's pay for my airfare and accommodation I'll come up and draw them this right outside the arcade for free!:

In the meantime enjoy your games!!!

Whats this about lag?

Munta: Nah they missed the first shipment. We've never had it in any timezone/timeout here in Auckland. Fact. I've been on the phoen to the guys who bring them in and they're like "$24,000 for a single player cab. . .? no thanks". Looks like it'll be October for the next shipment should they choose to buy then.
If they had of had it, I would have played it, and at that price they would have KEPT it lol! :D
Still, Yifans has always been great at picking the titles as they shoudl be released. We're quite lucky they're an on-to-it bunch of dudes.
I'm surprised it's not in Aus yet. . . surely there must be a huge arcade somewhere in NSW with players busting on the game right now? :wonder:

I am sure if there were machines in NSW then we would have heard about it in here. It seems as soon as any arcade outside Japan gets it we know it.

What's the competition like in Aussie? Yifans is pretty hardcore mainly because we get a lot of students studying here from Asia and it pushes the locals to be as good. There's a pretty solid base of players that play 3S, Marvel and even Tekken (if that's your thing) IMO All other arcades in NZ are shit, they don't have facing cabinets or Japanese sticks and the competition reflects this.
I'd even say Yifans would probably be the best arcade (for fighting game competion) in the Southern Hemisphere.:looney:

I have always thought that the competition in Aust was pretty good. But I have no idea what Yifans is like. Melbourne in particular has many many Asian students as well. Although I can really only name three good arcades in the city.
There was a place in the middle of Canberra that had a Tekken 6 machine, that amazed me.

Just got home from playing it most of the day.
The game is def sweet lotsa fun stuff and is very pretty.
Could the lag be the result of the non HD monitors???? If so no worries they're planning to get some soon:woot:
Rog is real sweet time to hit up ST training mode and get that damn TAP goin:wgrin:

Hey Tooooomeke, were you the guy who was there when Crazydaimond and I were there on Thursday night? We played some Gief and clocked it, some 'sim, some Sagat (And tried the saving cancel after tiger shot) some Boxer and I lost a few on Claw and C.Viper versus that 3S Ryu dude.
I meant to ask your name while we were there bro, just to see if you were keen to meet up again for a challenge sometime. Let me know bro.
Boxer is really goood, armor on Ex dash + Armor break, and that mad juggle to super / ultra from headbut was really good. TAP is gravy, huge inv frames especially on low/mid strikes.
I finally got the hang of Dash after crumple hit, you just have to watch for the pause and it became alot easier.
From what I saw, I'd say Gief and Boxer were near top tier initially, with Ryu and Guile probably being high up too. Sagat was impressive, as was Claw, but my Claw ranking is kinda biased. lol :wgrin:
I'll be down at Yifans from 10 am tomorrow, so anyone who's keen can come for a challenge. I'll be the dude wearing the Green hoodie Red scarf and the Red Chucks. (And pants etc . . . lol :wonder::looney:) and probably be playing as Claw / Boxer / Sim or Gief.
I didn't think I could have regret coming to Christchurch this year any more than I already did.
FUCK.

Yeah I was that guy. The names Ben by the way.
I'm gonna be there tomorrow from about 11am on id say.
Trying to get some good barlog rush going i think hes got even more potential than his ST incarnation...altho TAP is guna be hard to use with this new grab input.

Good to see some solid challenges going on. More people using saving attack cancels etc. And generally just learning how the moves hit.
BTW I would encourage people getting back in to Street Fighter down there to play the Beginner mode. It's such a good idea, you basically get three fights against a computer that doesn't fight back. Even if another player is already playing the game on the other side.
Biggest crowds for challenges seem to obviously be 12-1pm and 4-7pm weekdays.

Man, I never thought the day would come when a thread with the words "New Zealand" would appear. I was beginning to think I was the only kiwi here! I'm a kiwi but live in London, and miss the days of challenges at Yifans. It's a pity the Yifans fighting scene is pretty much dead.
I was lucky enough to play SF4 at the recent Battle of Destiny tournament here. It's looking so polished.

WOW! Where all you kiwis come from? I dont mean to derail your thread but I have been aching to ask kiwis about NZ. Seriously, for whatever strange reason I have this fascination and desire to visit NZ. How is it living there? You got any cool facts about you country? I swear one day I gotta go visit.

It's one of the best places to live in the world in terms of quality of life, and nature. The Lord of the Rings movies are pretty much 3 hour NZ tourism advertisements.

Cool facts, yeah..
We have Street Fighter IV while a lot of places still don't.
We also produced Flight of the Conchords.
And we currently have 0 (Zero) Medals at the Beijing Olympics.

SURELY there must be better arcades in AU for competition than Yifans... every time I go there (not often, I'm in Hamilton) the only people playing fighting games are playing some oldass KoF or 3s...

I own the OHN5 DVD(x3 lol), and yeah, I really doubt Yifans can beat the Melbourne and Sydney scenes.

I almost come to yifan everyday,I saw it today and many people were watching, but 2 dollars a game is as expensive as tk6,I wish yifan can have another two SF4s and get rid of some of the old versions of SF2
I kept my eyes on SF4 when I was playing 3rd strike next to it,my ken even killed a makoto with natural grab

I also found there is no place for inserting cards on SF4 machines in YIFAN,and those two SF4 machines were originally used for MvC(or some other games like that,I've never played that)
now we probably have 8 TK6 machines in auckland(4 in YIFAN,the other 4 are in a Subway on the other side of Queen St),but only two SF4 machines, hope that subway has got SF4 as well

Hey Ben, I'm J. :)
I'm gonna second main boxer, if you're there, you're quite welcome to second rounds bro. The Boxer thread here has some tight discussion and tactics, and there's always beginner mode to prime those combos before a challenge too.
See you all this morning. . . right? :D

Then you Aucklanders can show us the ropes ;p

Not really. In any case SFiV is drawing crowds at the mo.

Melbourne and Sydney definitely have stronger comp than us here at yifans. Some of their 3s players are among the best outside of japan.

If your gonna come visit NZ stay outta Auckland IMO. It's not the reason why NZ is considered a great place. Go up north for the laxed out lifestyle or down south for some epic as scenery.

You said it bro, Yifans just got an injection of competitive goodness, even at $2 a game, it really feels worth it.
Especially if you get a little practice on Beginner mode, I can't say enough about how that helped learn some of the SA properties etc.
One hour to go for me. . . :wgrin:

We'll see. It's only because it's new, but I would imagine that when SF4 is released for consoles, the arcade scene will die again.

Unfortunately not. If any SF4 cabinets land in Australia they'll probably be announced in this thread (http://www.ozhadou.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2964).
For now we know that Timezone are getting SF4, most likely in Sydney and Brisbane, but no dates are known. I suppose Galaxy World will get it as well, but maybe they couldn't find any spare change after burning their cash on around 20 Tekken 6 cabinets. (I guess Galaxy World Sydney believes there's no such thing as "too much Tekken".)

Played a few this morning. Things are heating up down here, losts of SA cancel experimentation, and some great rush-downs from SA tricks as well.
Gief is a really hard fight, there were a couple of guys playing him today, my Sagat got dealt to (Not too badly), 'Sim stepped up for me and took down Gief, a Ken and a Ryu player, zoning can work fairly similar to A3, though SA dash cancel your normals means you have to work on your close game.
Claw's Air throw is amazing, great damage, and pretty easy to catch with, I actually beat that 3S Ryu guy. I feel like I'm actually better on Claw now, which is a good thing, since I'm convinced he should be my main. :wgrin: :lovin:
I'd say that's probably 7 whole hours for me spent on the game in total now, practice makes better.
I'll be back at Yifans tomorrow morning from 11 am till probably 2pm. Anyone keen is most welcome for a challenge / chat. :wgrin:

Is anyone able to film some games at Yifans?
Or is there some kind of no video camera policy, for some reason that rings a bell.
Ah well, would be nice to see some local players.
Also, I know you mentioned at Yifans they have good controls; Well does anyone know what those small balltop sticks they use at Timezone are?
In some ways I kind of prefer them over Japanese wannabe sticks. Somehow I really like the extra resistance they have.

You don't mean those shitty mca sticks kinda shaped like a cheap 5cent lollipop???
I HATE THOSE THINGS LOL! They put them on those big red cabs.
I'm not sure what the controls at yifans are. The joysticks don't feel like a sanwa jlf. Possibly a semitsu LS-32? I'm almost a hundrerd percent sure the buttons are the sanwa obsf's.

I'll see today about their video policy, and take my digital just in case. Prepare for some short as vids.
I perfer the Timezone sticks also, for the same reason, but the Yifans ones are decent once you get used to them. (Normally takes me a game or two to fully adjust).
Like I said, I'll be there today at 11am, can't wait to get in front of the game again. :wgrin:

Dude I need to get my microscope out everytime I try to read your text! :looney:
I've seen people's Marvel videos appear on youtube from yifans. If you ask them they'll probably say no. You're better off to just film it and stop if they tell you.
That way at least you get some footage.
PS. Are you gonna do a running commentary like on those Evo DVDs? If you do can you do it in a posh British accent?

I don't think the yifans sticks are LS-32s, I have those in my arcade cab and they feel different. Could just be weak springs though, the yifans ones are super floppy.
From what I remember of the mvc2 chaps taking vids at yifans, they got told to stop. Might as well ask again though, can't hurt. Feel free to post vids/join up to nzism if you like, more sfiv talk over there would be appreciated...
As for 3S being a game... yeah, well, so is Pit Fighter :D _b

Definitely will visit the southern island. I just finished watching a program called GlobeTrekker that featured NZ.
Here is the website to watch all the episodes online:www.GlobeTrekkerchannel.tv you can look for the NZ episode I just watched on t.v there.
I DEF' want to go on that Milford Track. Thats a once in the lifetime...no, a event that few people will ever get to see first hand. I'm already talking it over with my fiance and plan a trip on that track. :woot:

$2 a game on normal cabinets, I imagine when the interest dies down a bit, they'll whoop out the fancy cabinets with HD tv's and card system, and rake in the money again.
I'm there nearly everyday, Yifans is my 2nd home I think. And playing games is like paying rent, lol
It's sometimes painful watching the scrubs playing sf4 haha but gotta start from somewhere :D
