We've resurrected the GoForBroke hub now as "GoForBroke2".

This is a DirectConnect hub (peer to peer networking) to share fighting game combo and tournament vids on. Like others, I enjoy sharing and watching videos, but it's bandwidth or disk space prohibitive to share everything at once. The GoForBroke2 hub provides a way for people to share everything under the sun and yet keep their networking costs to a minimum - no need to run your own website or hope that somebody hosts that particular video that you've been looking for.

You can get the DC++ client software at:
http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net (use 0.674!) or the DirectConnect client software at:
http://www.neo-modus.com (use 2.205!)

I personally use DC++ and find it much more stable/less leaky. If you use DC++, you must use version 0.674 or newer. If you use DirectConnect, I strongly recommend 2.205, since that fixes some bigger 'file refresh' bugs in 2.20.

Right now (6/13/05), all my slots are typically taken. So you can either search for the files on *other* people's shares or wait or ask me to grant you an extra slot (and you'll want a good reason here, such as that it's footage of you). Right now, you'll be put in the queue of people waiting to download from my share, or you can download from other people's shares.

Welcome to GoForBroke Take 2. This hub is exclusively for sharing fighting game and combo videos. Abusive behavior will result in kicks/bans.

Rules:
* Share 100MB of videos minimum
* Don't share incomplete, corrupt, or system files.
* No porn, no warez, no ROMs, no commercial music, no commercial materials. This means if it violates somebody's copyright, you're kicked. Nothing from the Evo DVDs.
* No spamming/advertising. That will lead to perma-ban.
* Open 3 slots if you're on broadband
* You must set your client ID tag indicating what client version you're using.

If you have a problem, please take it to a mod or me. I will typically warn you and give you a couple minutes to fix the problem before I kick you, so if you're around to fix the problem, let me know. Otherwise, we'll see you in 20 minutes if you can get rid of the offending files.

I personally strongly recommend you uncheck "Require Open Slots" when searching, as that way you'll find the *full* list of available footage on the hub at that point.

If you don't have 100MB of videos, you can find about 3GB to download from http://zachd.com/mvc2 to get you going.

New ops will be added over time *as needed*. You will not be given op privileges until you've been around for a while. It's pretty ugly to ask or hint about it. If for some reason you NEED op privileges (and I'm not sure why anybody does...), ask privately. If you'd like to report a problem, it's probably best to do it directly to an op. You'll get more cred that way and the hub will run more cleanly.

If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me or hit me up on AIM ('zachdms'). If you get banned and feel it was unjustified, hit me up on AIM and we'll discuss. You'll only get banned if you ignore the reason why you get kicked. If you get kicked, you'll be locked out for 40 minutes so you can fix the reason why you were kicked.


If you DO get banned and want to be unbanned, you will need to hit me up on AIM ('zachdms') and explain why you were banned, tell me that you fixed the problem, and what username you want to be unbanned.

I don't get it, i have 256 DDR PC2700 and i got no problems on dc.

I can bet anything that the majority of people here got tons of crap running on there system tray. Useless progs that take up valuable resources and more then half of them are probably not being used i bet, if anyone got more then 1 or 2 running on there tray that would probably explain why dc runs so slow.

Settings/Connection Tab/ and click on PASSIVE MODE

that will solve all ur problems

Personal Information Tab:
1) User Name -

3) File Description - What you are sharing.

4) Connection Type: - What ur connection speed is.

1) Downloads file into the following folder - Where your downloads go to when complete. Must browse to desired folder.

2) Shared Folders - What folders and files you want to share with others.
EX: SF Vids

3) Maximum Sim Upload - How many people can upload from your computer. 3 slots is the defult setting. (Go For Broke requires you keep 3 slots open)

Interface Tab
This Tab is for all your options like sounds, colors, and fonts. Do what you want. ^_^

Connections Tab
1) Auto Connect - If checked, this will connect you to the desired hub at the start-up of Direct Connect
EX: Auto Connect on start up: capcomvids.dynip.com

2) Active Mode - Use this if your connection is not hindered by routers or firewalls. Defult Mode

3) Passive Mode - Use this if you are behind a firewall or on a shared internet connection.

Note: Passive mode users cannot connect to other Passive mode users. Plus in

1) Online Users Box - Shows the names of the people in the hub.
Right Click on any user in the hub and your options pop up:
1) Add to favorites - This is your buddy list.
2) Email - Send an email if email is listed
3) Private Message - Sends a PM
4) Browse Users Files - This will bring up the users shared files, click on the file to download, you can continue to select files and they will be added to your Queue Tab at the bottom of the screen. When a download is down your nexted queued file will start.

2) Favorite User Box - Shows your buddy list.

3) Main Chat Box - The Main chatroom of the hub, visible to all users
On the Main Chat Box there are 3 Tools:
1) Hammer - This tools trys to continually connect to a user.
2) Notepad - Write notes in there, it will save it until later.
EX: URL Links
3) Search - Searches the hub for all keywords
EX: Justin Wong vs. Rodolfo

4) Sharing Tab - Shows users uploading from you. You can right click thier name to kick them etc...

5) Downloads Tab - Shows your current downloads

6) Queue Tab - Shows Queue list of files in download order.

7) History Tab - Shows complete Uploads and Downloads

Eh, I don't double connect intentionally, yet I get banned. It happens when other apps crash and it fucks with DC. I don't even know how to double connect on purpose. When this happens, how do I disconnect one of my names? Is it possible to do this without having to close the app and restart? And how long does a ban like this last?

Thanks. I figured it out once I saw that I was unbanned. I thought I closed DC but I had another instance of it running in the background. Didn't even notice it until something else crashed and I saw it on the dialog box. 98 is extremely gay.

The hub is great, btw. I'd share more stuff, but I have like, zero disk space on a pc that not even mine, and no way to cap video.

I had the same problem at the begining, juste close DC and restart it, it should work, well at least it worked for me.

It depends on your upload, their download, and what type of connection you have. If they have a phone next to their name, avoid them like the plague = dialup.

if your getting a slow speed try and find someone else with the same filename and try them. You might get faster speeds.

well right, but that doesnt mean you have to share that folder

maybe its just me, but i like to organize my files. i download all my files into a certain folder and then i move them elsewhere once theyre done. i mean, this way i know whats done and whats not and other people wont be leeching unfinished files. how you organize your computer is up to you tho..

whats so bad for the speed of the computer? the only thing i wish i could do with DC is limit bandwidth, for upload and download. i like how it doesnt change everything into a temp file like kazaa and winmx do.. its annoying... i cant enjoy the part that i've dl'd already, lol. but i guess the downside is that you might not be able to tell if its completed or not yet without alot of trouble

for everything else, i dont get why people are complaining... maybe their computers realy really suck or they just suck at using them. my processor is only 600mhz and i only have like 192mb of ram, which sucks like a mother but i have DC and Kazaa both running and i had nero going a sec ago and i'm not having any abnormal issues....

for file sharing, i like this sooo much better than IRC. i mean, everyone shares and most people are on cable+. theres usually not long long waits for queues and DC auto saves your queues so you dont have to look up everything again. the only complaint i have is that i'm behind a firewall (for my cable modem i think) and i cant connect to other passive mode users, but thats ok... someone else may have the files i want

I do not want to see Temp files or imcompete files, so make a download folder and do not share it!

as for people complaining about comp processing use FreshDiagnose or Sandra Pro to regulate ur process, most computer users are stupid and have all their proggys like AIM and YahooMsgn and what not start on start up, this high effects your computers resource. restarting your comp regulary is good to refresh these resources.

DC++ is a version of DC made by some hackers, it is a good program and has many great benefits but its can hack slots on people's comp using up more bandwidth than people want to and it can hack through my scripts.

Dr Funk this program doesn't work for me at all. I "connect" and it takes like 3 minutes b4 the user list even comes up. Then when I try to message people they either never receive it or it takes like 20 seconds. If I try to browse user files' it just sits there and does nothing that I can see. I have a t1 connection, I download vids all the time and it is really fast, but it seems laggy as hell on DC. And I do have it on passive mode so don't say that!

Hubs fine maybe its your connection. Are You behind a firewall/router?

ok possible things that will fix this problem:

1) make sure its the right address: goforbroke.no-ip.com

2) make sure you are sharing 20mb of files

3) make sure 3 slots are open

4) if ur behind a firewall or router, select Passive Mode and try to reconnect

5) make sure your not using DC++, Opera and Normal Direct connect are fine.

I have known though only in 1 case previous for direct connect to work at all, on some PCs. this was on my friend's ted PC, so he can't come, just weird like that, never figured it out.

I've been having this problem sine the beginning of the year. I bought a new HD and installed WinXP. Everything works fine, nothing is wrong. But when I try to download things from Direct Connect, I can't seem to do so. I downloaded before on DC on a different HD with difference OS (one was WinNT, and WinME) and it worked fine. My other two sn's were Cronox10 and Daflyboitk (DFunk, I'm hoping you still remember me :) ).

Anyway, I can't seem to download a DC list, or anything in that matter. I can't search either, nothing would ever come up in the results area. I don't have firewalls or routers or anything like that. I have Cable, and have no other special features with it.

If anyone has encountered a similiar problem before, how did you fix it? Someone please help, I really want to get back in there and start d/l a couple of essentials for my new HD.

have you tried switching to passive mode in settings?

Windows XP has a built-in Firewall Featire this is probabaly turned on by defult. You may either turn it off, or switch to passive mode in the DC settings

It was running fine, I shut it down for a couple minutes (for some reason I can't remember) and when I ran it again, it wouldn't connect. I tried Passive Mode and it still didn't work. I tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it and it still didn't work (I removed the left over folder and deleted all registry entries, too). The XP built-in firewall is turned off. For good measure, I'll repeat that -I tried Passive Mode- and it didn't make any difference. I didn't change anything at all with the system between the time I shut it down (when it was working) and started it up again to find it not connecting. In case it's useful info, I also can't get the public server list. It says, "Receiving Response" for a couple seconds, then does nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or what might be the problem? I was really enjoying the chance to share my vids and I'd hate to have it come to an end so randomly.

P.S. I tried Passive Mode.

man what is it with people having trouble connecting to the hub. The hubs working fine. If you already tried passive mode then i dont know whats the problem. Do you have a router or any software firewalls running? If your not "Receiving Response" then its probably a problem with your connection.

Frankly, I'm baffled. I tried connecting to another hub and that didn't work either. I tried installing DC on another computer and still couldn't connect. I tried running my own hub and connecting to myself and I couldn't do that. I tried other server programs using the same ports that DC uses and they worked fine. It's like something is specifically stopping DC from working, which makes no sense. :/

Thanks for the attention, Drfunk, though it looks like it's a problem on my end and not yours (at least in my case). :/

Yes there have been evolution footage released before the dvd, but these ones are ripped straight from it.

It's cool, Some dood named MJ kicked me and called me an idiot or something. That's what got me saying "wtf?" Anyway's I understand the temp. thing, but I'm saying if your gonna do that just try and tell ur mod's to iM them or give a message, not calling them an idiot but saying what they did BEFORE they get kicked. Then maybe they could fix it without getting banned then comming into the thread saying this and that. (like me and geese for ie.) Then if they don't, boot them. Thas jus the way I would do it to not make people get all rilled up. Becuz I was confused as to why I was booted and banned when all he had to do was tell me and I could have simply closed one without hassle. .
