Hi I was just looking over some of the changes of the game and I’m just wondering is Super Street Fighter II HD Remix going to replace Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for tournaments? Or is it really still going to be all about Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo when it comes to tournaments in the US and Japan?
Thanks

Two question you need to ask is, why wouldn't HDR replace ST and will HDR/ST even be played that much in tournies with SF4 out in arcades and soon to be on consoles.

There's still such a huge following for SFII, that even if HDRemix bombed, I really really doubt that people would stop playing ST in tournies even when IV hits.
I would LIKE to see HDRemix replace ST, as it is [supposedly] the newly balanced ST anyways, right? Balanced by some of the best SRK members/community. However only time will tell.

That statement is asinine.
Yes, HDR will replace ST in the U.S./Europe at tournaments but it wont be replaced in Japan. Even with HDR there still will be people who will like ST a little more.

Didn't ST take the place of SSF2? and 3S take the place of Second Impact?
i'll try to explain what I meant better...
Its a numbers thing. Take say EVO2K8 line-up ST, 3S, SMBB, T5:DR and CVS2 now add all the new games thats come this year SF4, TVC, BlazBlu, HDR, T6 and eventually KOFxii. A few have to go and few will be left out. Theres just not enough time in the day to make everyone happy... why am I typing this?

I highly doubt that KOF12 will be at Evo.
When I said that statement is asinine I ment the one about how there will be few people playing HDR because of SF4. SF2 and SF4 are completely different.

Yeah, but SFZ2@ didn't replace SFZ2, SFZ3U didn't replace SFZ3, and VH2 and VS2 didn't replace VS.
For the time being, SF:HD will definitely replace ST in the US (or at least go alongside it). In the long run, it depends on whether anything extremely broken is found.

Japan is more arcade oriented, so they'll probably continue with ST. Now, if Capcom ends up putting HDR on arcade like they did AE, then I could see them picking it up over ST.
As for here, as long as it isn't broken it should be running over ST at least through Evo 2009. After that I expect it depends on if the game really is better than ST, much as the routine went with AE.

Not really, Already two Majors have decided to keep ST over STHD. One is east coast Final Round, and i also believe NEC is doing both ST and STHD so his statement is not so asinine after all.

Ah, but the reasoning for the Final Round pick is because the organizer is convinced that ST is about to go out, and he wants to have the last big ST tournament at Final Round. So even his reasoning suggests that HDR will replace ST at future Final Round events.

But when I was there last year I never seen any ST arcade machines. And when I was there I hit up a lot of random arcades, but maybe just somehow I just missed the ones that had it and I’m sure that now ST 4 is everywhere now.
All I seen there was Guilty Gear and Virtua Fighter 5.

They should just make a CPS2 version of HDR, just putting in the gameplay changes without any of the fancy graphics. Much cheaper and the graphical overhaul is pretty controversial anyway

I post it all the time in every thread but I hope Japan gets themselves an arcade release of SFHD. It'd be a pity if they didn't switch on up with us.

HDRemix has a way better chance at attracting new players then turbo would.
As of now Im pretty certain that there are alot of new xbla and psn players.

I played against a Japanese player today on the 360. He said he also plays on GGPO. So who knows, maybe it'll catch on over there.
Oh, and he played a crazy T.Hawk. Man, Hawk is really scary now in the right hands!

It's too bad E. Honda is so broken in the new version. Beefing up charters is one thing but overpower them so they can spam hands and flying sit is terrible. Too bad, hope that patch that.

Why does it matter if they're "okay" with it? It's not their authority, their opinion is not the only one that matters. If they're not okay with it, who cares? We're still going to play it until we find a reason not to.

Personally I don't see the Japanese embracing this game anytime soon. I could be completely wrong on the issue but I just don't see it happening. Vanilla ST is a prestigious game over there and like you said...without an arcade release there's not the smallest chance in the world it'll get taken seriously.

Yeah I've come to realize this myself. We should be able to embrace the games that we like to play over here and embrace the uniqueness of our own community. We still take Marvel hella seriously here and many Tekken players are still playing the shit out of Dark Res. Japanese have PLENTY of games that they take seriously over there that we over here tend to shit on or make fun of.

If they want to use HDRemix in tournaments then the fucking bugs and glitches need to be fixed first. Could you imagine the lifebars having a seizure or the background/character completely dissapearing during the final match?

I dunno, they loved KOF 98 over there right up until UM came out, now everyone who played 98 jumped onto that.
If HDR got an arcade release in Japan, I'd expect it to supplant ST in the same way UM supplanted 98.

I suppose it depends on the matchup with Honda feeling broken. He feels weaker to me, but I guess that's because I play Dict. and he no longer gets a free win from repeated Ochios if I get cornered. Not to mention s. jab stops headbutt. Hundred Hands Show up waaaay more now that it's easy to do. That can be problematic, but there are counters to it. For instance, psycho crusher beats it nearly every time.
However, just because Dict. can beat him doesn't mean other characters can. Cammy has a nearly impossible time with him. When he's doing the hands, all of her shit trades at best or gets outright hit.
Versus non fireballers, Honda lost his abusable throw trap, but kept all the shit that made him powerful in those matchups to begin with...so he's still difficult to fight.
What makes him specifically broken though? The easier hands in combination with his easier time against fireballers?

Honda is infinitely easier to fight against since they nerfed his Ochio throw. That was GG's no matter how much life you had left in the old ST. You guys have no idea.

I suppose it could be argued that KOF players in general (as opposed to Street Fighter players) are much more willing to switch up to newer versions (there used to be a new one every year), but it can also be said that the dudes who've stuck to '98 all along have had way more chances/reasons than us to switch up to a new game, and stuck to their guns anyway.
I think all the hardcore KOF98 players were just thrilled to have a loving re-tune of their exact and favourite game. I'm the wrong person to ask about Japanese arcades and I sure as hell don't know my KOF98 players very well, but I got the impression that everyone switched on over... the top names in UM are the same top names from vanilla 98.

This makes me sad. I just downloaded HDR and Honda was my old main.
Guess I'll be using Ken now.
Because his uppercut sets you on fire of course. That's just too cool.

Not really that controversial, you have a handful of people that don't like it, but most are perfectly happy with the new graphics.

Fierce HHS is so ridiculously hard to pull off in ST that most people just use strong HHS instead. Something is wrong when even tournament-level players can't pull off a move consistently. It's still not a piece of cake, but at least it's actually usable now.
I suspect that jab headbutt is the source of whatever complaints are being lodged against Honda. People have been zoning Honda to death with fireballs for 14 years. It's going to take them some time to get over the fact that they're going to have to be more dynamic in their play to beat him now.

I know CapCom rigged up some STHD arcade machines for 2008 ComicCon.
It would be neat to see them seed some STHD arcade machines in some of the Shinjuku arcades with ST traffic and see what happens.

I'd stay its 50/50 in each camp at this point. I've pretty much put it on old sprites and old music since after testing out the new stuff. Remix soundtrack isn't bad, but eh

I love the new art. Everybody looks great except maybe for Cammy and Sagat (they should have kept them skinny and left Sagat's smile).
Other than that though, it's great. One of mybiggest concerns was how the new art would animate. Would Ryu and Ken's standing neutral animations be just as smooth and fluid as before? Would Sagat's laughing animation be messed up? But I was relieved that it animates just as well and I'm starting to to like it even more than the old art now.
And I'm usually very picky when it comes to SF art, I loved Alpha's art but not SF3.

lol, call it like it is.
(I figured Honda was weaker because of the loss of the loop of doom, less dizzy on the uber throw makes life easier too...)

I think they did a good job balancing Honda. They got rid of his cheese moves and gave him better fireball management, slaps that a normal human being can use on command and a much improved jumping LK that really helps against characters with wide sweeps like Guile and Dee Jay. He received a lot of small tweaks that improved his weak points without turning him into a monster.
Honestly, I don't consider Honda one of the game's more overpowered characters. Perhaps it's just me, but I'd much rather something be done about the rags-to-riches Blanka and the "oh my god I bought this game to AVOID Third Strike" Ken.

Blankas a whack one for sure, hes just really tricky to deal with, consistently shutting down the ball seems to be key in dealing with him. (Easier said then done)
And Ken is like a rampaging over the top Ryu, with oodles of kicks. Once you get used to the random DP maddness, and be mindful of the still ass whuppin knee bash, hes not as bad to deal with as the other shotos.
Fuggin Kuma,Kuma,Kuma what a monster, best version of RD I have seen yet, uber DP and combo tastic meat make this one an uber shoto.

Yeah, Akuma looks like he could be pretty deadly down the line, borderline broken even. Time will tell, it's still pretty early in this games cycle.

I'm worried about Akuma right now.
Honda- yeah, he might be easier now (though Honda-Honda matchups now aren't automatic sleep, you can actually think in them now), he can be counterpicked pretty easily. Ken, Chun, and Dee Jay give Honda a hard time. He's nowhere near as bad as the top tier in arcade ST. Also a couple of matchups that used to be "for free" with Honda aren't (Blanka and Hawk can now compete with Honda)

Alex: Why don't you use Guile against honda? You should really pick him up now that they made improvements on him and not to mention you are the few people who knew how Thomas Osaki used Guile and his game plans and secrets. I am very supprised that you or Graham haven't tried to emulate Thomas Guile yet, I believe you will annihilate people on HD if you picked Guile bro.
