how did you capture the matches ?

I use a USB 2.0 Video Capture Device, and a Y splitter for the Video RCA input from the game hardware. You lose some brightness doing this on your TV, but its important that you have the game going on your TV and capturing on your PC at the same time. It will lag disturbingly much on the PC, so you cannot play off of this.

I do not feed game audio into the capture device the same way. I simply put the laptop being used for this close-ish to the TV and tell the capture software I use (CyberLinK Power Director) to capture audio from the Laptop's built in mic. I then turn up the TV. This way, you get the game noises AND the background elements, such as speech and buttons. People seem to enjoy this. I certainly do.

After you are set up, its just a matter of remembering to hit STOP -> RECORD between each match. You'll see a few near the end where I was getting lazy and putting two matches in one file (there is nothing wrong with this, as long as your file doesnt go over 10 minutes, as youtube wont take it).

I watched all your matches Keits. Awesome stuff. Actually found them on youtube before you posted this. They are the best match vids of HDR on tube so far. The background chatter makes them superb. The Turkey-day matches lack much of the chatter sadly, but the different people playing from the first day brought in some characters we didnt see the first day.

Props for the cammy play. Always Cannon spike at the start of every round because only a scrub doesnt jump at you right àway :p

If anything these vids prove Cammy is no longer bottom tier.

My only complaint is I didnt see people really making use of the new moves and such. Didnt see any fake slides with Bison really or fake Hadoukens, and the guy using Gief seemed to not know the new motion for the Green Glove. He looked like in his first fight he tried the old motion alot then just gave up. I love the "Jab headbutt eats fireballs", and the guy still tried to just jump them all the time. Obvious learning curve for the new stuff it seems.

This has become a running gag between myself and those i've been playing with. Always roundhouse cannon spike at the start of a round and complain when it doesnt hit. Im not actually that scrubby :)

I kind of figured. First few times I saw it I fell for it and thought you sucked ass though. But after a few vids I realized it was a gag. Though watching you eat Demon Storms made your skillz a hard sell :p

Yeah, im honestly not adjusting to how fast demon is very well so far. The blocked air fireball demon setup also seems unjumpable sometimes and you see a lot of us getting hit by it that way. Its a damn scary super now, to be sure.

Im so used to just jabbing him out of demon in other games, that instead of jumping on reaction to it, i jab nd get killed. :) someday ill learn.

Yeah, Akuma does not generally have Shun Goku Satsu in a game where it has invincibility frames. Even with shorter range and other nerfs it comes out ahead in many ways. Yet Akuma still seems balanced. Kudas for balancing him and making him a serious threat at the same time. The change to how the air fireball bounces him up a bit likely makes that trick a little harder in practice than it looks. Likewise, I imagine itd be easier to get away if you just took the fireball...and it doesnt do alot of damage.

I didnt see alot of fake fireballs, but I did see some of those at least.

On day two I saw some deejay fireball stuffing with MGU. I may have seen some fake Bison slides but nothing was done with them that I noticed (think I saw fake - throw once) Would have loved to see some Claw and Hawk fake dives put into practice mainly. Surprised that in all the Chun matches it was uplicks tagged onto her super and not Spinning Bird Kick.

Cammy needs to work on AA, so many j.rh's from the ken that were left unchecked (its pretty much all he did along with c.rh) and allowed him to keep constant pressure. Also Cannon Drills were rarely used outside of c.mk xx cannon drill link, even then they wern't hit confirmed drills, but were basically spammed every time c.mk was used. Cannon Drills can be used to punish alot of the stuff Ken was whiffing like the c.rh used body lengths away. Your close range footsie game consisted of nothing but c.lk and c.mk...The Ken would wait it out constantly, mix it up with some overheads or throws.

Ken was terrible, No spacing or zoning at all, just constant jumpin-rh and c.rh along with the occasional fireball (if you have full screen distance away, start spamming them and force the Cammy to work around them and into favorable positions for Shoryu, etc), no use of jumpin.mk at all, so many c.rh's that whiffed over cammy's head could have connected with jumpin.mk. On a Dizzy a followup with j.rh into yet another c.rh...

Harsh critique, but seriously that was one of the scrubbiest matches I have ever watched, I would hate to see what the average vids you guys play look like. Seeing as it was the only one posted up on Youtube I guess its one of the better ones?

Im honestly not sure what happened to the sound in that batch. I checked the source videos and there was no sound in those either. I'll be careful to make sure that doesnt happen again, as we were having some nice laughs that evening too.

The chun match interested me so i went and looked at techmonkey's match and chun seemed to do well there too. It's weird because the wiki(NKI?) lists Ryu as a disadvantaged match for chun, so i don't know if damdai is just weaker to her, or if akuma is just not as good as ryu in that match.

Yah, they're pretty good. Playing strong fundamentals and they have pretty good reversal timing as well. A lot of random youtubers don't understand competitive ST though, so I guess their comments are fair since there ARE going to be tons of ADOKETS.

Nice technique there with the lightning leg spam. I don't use them enough against Cammy. It's a good move because Cammy has to come at you with her body and none of her moves have enough invincibility to go through those milky thighs.

I'm pretty upset about that. I recorded a few, but it was during a period when I was having problems with my recording setup, so none of the videos came out. I switched from a DVD Recorder to a Dazzle recently because I couldn't find DVD-R's that worked with my DVD Recorder. I got one match between us on the Dazzle, but the beginning of the fight was all sped up, which threw off the sync of the audio track, so I chose not to post it. Was a great 5 rounder though. I think my new setup is stable now, so next time you face me, it'll get posted, unless one of us stinks it up real bad. I need more vs. Ryu vids. Can you believe I'm short on (good) shotos?

Just a peice of advice against rog bro, don't throw yoga fires when in rog's stand fierce range I noticed when he was in that range he kept dash punch and you threw out a yoga fire. Instead you should be pushing him out with stand strong first then yoga fire , it will also counter his low rush. Stand forward counters his dash punch, in which I would have thrown out if I saw it. Just thought Id help you out there man, I learned a lot about this match up from playing against Jason Cole from back in the days and he use to coach me on it at Sunnyvale Golf Land CA, were legends were born.

I think what's going to extend this game's life, especially during this transition period where some people are playing SFIV is the Japanese players. I've noticed more and more I'm running into them late at night, when our time zones are more agreeable. Plus, it's something new, since you may run into a great player who you've never heard of over here. Eggo, yes I love playing SpritENZ (even though its a little laggy)..hes real good. Definitely best Dhalsim ive played online.

The japanese players I play (on my friends list) are SpritENZ, tetrisboo, MacgyverJ and buttonbrown.
SpritENZ and buttonbrown are the better of the 4 and both speak english pretty well..tetris and macgyver are pretty problematic though, lol.

Of course you can reversal. Good luck trying with 200+ ping though. By the time the data goes there and back, at least 12 frames have passed. Zangief has a big advantage in this situation.

Wait a sec.

Meaty Green Hand doesn't have invincibility like a meaty Jab Shoryuken or something, not counting lag delays or whatnot. If Chun or Blanka blocked the tick and THEN reversal Upkick or reversal Ball, it should escape the SPD attempt every time, GUARANTEED. Or even BEFORE the block. Green Hand doesn't have a super HUGE hitbox like Akuma's st.Forward or whatnot. Plus, Green Hand has such horrible recovery, that I don't even bother using it as meaty unless the opponent is almost dead. Am I missing something? I wouldn't be surprised if the opponent is not only able to punish a meaty Green Hand, but to block it and then jump out of it before the SPD attempt.

Green Hand > SPD looks good in that video, but as a Zangief user, I understand why haru tejyo did it in only ONE round out of like 10 matches. It's good for catching your opponent off guard when they were expecting a st.Short tick or j.Short tick. The block stun off Green Hand is MUCH more than st.Short or j.Short, so it's good for screwing up reversal attack timings, ESPECIALLY against charge characters, but it's only a gimmick. If a player was used to seeing Green Hand > SPD, I will bet dollars that they can jump out of it. IMO.

Though it's not safe on block. If it hits on the way up it can be hit with certain moves.

Edit: Also it's not a full on trap. You can charge down, take the hit on one of them, then reversal up kick to get out. Also, it's not very easy to do, so you can always block, hope the Honda screws it up and jump LK. If you block or get hit by the low kick you don't have enough time to do that though.

Actually I'm not really sure that he can. I know that in ST, O Honda had a throw loop against Boxer that could only be escaped with super (which Honda could block, but would still push him out) or by Boxer purposely getting hit by the safe jump and follow-up tick and reversaling then. It was just fierce grab, immediate jump toward short, close standing short (which for O Honda looked like N/R Honda low short), fierce grab. I don't really know for sure whether N or R Honda have the same thing, I just don't have the same amount of experience with them.

Honda definitely gets free safe jumps on lots of characters after fierce or roundhouse grab, though.

I added my comment to your page regarding one of the videos. All I'll say here is that "imfninja", if you all remember that useless thread, played a little worse than the Chun Li on your video. Tell him to start using fierce and roundhouse.

Anyway, from your videos, it's pretty obvious that somebody's been reading the Cammy thread. :) The only advice I'd give you is that every time you got jumping short to hit, a jumping fierce/roundhouse that hit a little deeper would have given you more damage and would have actually caused the ground moves you were doing after the jumping attacks to all combo together. If you're going to use jumping short, use it either as a cross-up or when you think there's a good chance you'll need to beat an anti-air normal from your opponent (jumping strong does a better job of this, though...and it happens to do more damage).

That's my semi-intermediate level advice.

1) Jump.mp st.lk cr.mk xx hk.scissors. This is a variant of one of many Touches of Death (ToDs) for Bison. You can substitute the j.mp for any other jump in attacks (except maybe j.hp?).

2) It's hard to tell, but you can cancel any of the 3 punches into any of the 3 hurricane kicks. It's either mp or hp in this case.

Nope, you can do it with FP too, but you have to time the FP so late it's not even worth trying it. Stick with MP, MK, and FK.

It looks like the people in this thread have HDR capture ability. Is there any chance of getting a simple static screencap? Right at the start of the round, with white Ryu vs red Ken on the Guile stage? Preferably 4:3 aspect ratio, and maximum resolution.
