what is the best game to try to practice guile's move set. i am talking about previous games that him or his counterparts (remy and charlie) appear in.
So far i have been playing alpha 3 and it seems like it is a good choice for this. Any thoughts?
Oh on a side note, gilley, those combo videos are superb. I was wondering also what stick you use?
oh and hello all, i've been lurking here for quite some time, and even read all 27 pages of guiles official thread.
Have fun sonic'ing around :D

Although he has a lot of changes from ST, that's still the closest game by far, none of the others come even half as close, especially with the use of non flash kick anti airs, as flash kick of the non EX variety is rather sad in comparison with its former glory.

You need a SNES with a television, or an Arcade cabinet, and electricity.

I'm currently vacationing in Hawai'i from Guam. I asked the same question as the OP months ago, and started playing Super Turbo to get ready for IV. I made my way over to Hawai'ian Brian's today and played SFIV for about 3 hours with some really cool guys and I learned one thing:
No matter how many videos you've watched, FAQ's/Guides/Forum Posts you've read, and how many games of HDRemix/Super Turbo you play, once you get on the machine, shit hits the fan and you got to start over.
The timing for everything is kind of different.
+ Tick throws feel weird. Also, against better players and even average players, they're much less useful since people can tech out of throws instead of just softening them. In Super Turbo, most people can see tech throws coming but average players didn't have the timing to reversal DP. Now you just tap throw when they hit throw.
+ Air throws will happen a lot less often unless you're super confident. In Super Turbo, you'll accidentally air throw people a lot since you're always charging and if you hit punch in the air, it'll grab if you're in range. In IV, since it's a command, you have to be sure you want to grab, which is a risk most people won't take.
+ Cross up timing is SUPER different. In the 3 hours I played, I couldn't get it to happen consistenly. The main reason is, in ST, you're so used to everyone getting up at a certain speed. In SFIV, people have the option to quick get up or not. I kept assuming people would automatically get up, and I'd cross up wayyyyy too early.
+ Focus attack dash cancelling is way harder than it sounds. You think "Shit, how hard can it be to hit mp+mk and dash forward?" Hard. I did it once.
+ Guile's ultra is hard if you're used to HDRemix motion (d/b,d,d/f,f,u/f). A big reason is Hawai'i has Happ sticks and I'm really used to Sanwa sticks with a square gate. I'm pretty sure if I had a square gate, I could ride the corners and hit the Ultra much more consistently.
+ In the 3 hours I was there, if I wanted to win, I had to really play conservative. Lots of zoning. Lots of throwing sonic booms all day then d+fiercing when they try to jump in. Lots of jumping roundhouse to crouching roundhouse. However, I was only there for 3 hours, so I'm pretty sure as we keep playing, we'll figure out ways to play him better. The whole being defensive thing was probably just me playing it safe so I could show the guys there I didn't totally suck.
+ Holy shit, Zangief kills. Block EX hand, get a command throw to the face unless you reverse flash kick (which I couldn't get going consistenly).
+ Bare bones Guile strategies from ST will work well. I was able to beat a handful of good players with solid zoning, footsies, and mindgames. I barely scratched the depth of IV though. All the games I won, I won using fundamentals (with the exception of one game, where I ultra'ed some guy's EX Headbutt with Honda. Fuck yes).
All in all, my 3 hours of IV just confirmed my expectations. IV fucking rocks and I can't wait for it to come out on console so I can play it even more. Capcom just needs to make sure they don't drop the ball on the online portion. If I can play people in the states from Guam with a connection that feels lag free or almost, I'm happy.

oh i know that, i have played sf4 for about 10 hours so far at 1 local arcade (well local i mean 1 hour away hahah) but i was just hoping to just get some more practise in to get me out of the sf3 3s mindset... it is the hardest thing for me so far because i am so used to parry's...

Blocked hands are unsafe--especially EX. You punish with a throw at minimum.

not really. i know that he plays WAY different from CVS2. his bazooka knee in CVS2 is never (should never) be used. but in sf4, just like turbo, is used alot and is apart of guiles game.
i get confused playing CVS2 and SF4 cause his strategy is so different.
turbo is the game to play to prepare for SF4, hands down.

Cvs2
like i said 2 posts before, turbo.
for this reason:
guile, cammy, zangeif, sakura, chun, etc. have different play styles in SF4 compared to CVS2, especially guile.
if you play sf4 guile like you play CVS2 guile, i wouldnt try to put money on your guile....
goto youtube, get one video of guile from turbo and one from CVS2, compare them and youll see that cvs2 is not the way to go.
