Need help playing Abel Tips are needed

Ok, I am new to the street fighter competitive fighting scene and while on Live I am not doing all that bad! Yet I still can not get around all the people that use ken, Akuma, Ryu, and Sagat. Like I said I am totally new to all this and I am trying to get some general tips for Abel.

Ok so the problem that I am having is that i cannot seem to get off my ultra on the right moment. Secondly I seem to do such week damage against everyone else. I play against Ken and all he has to do is Fierce SRK twice and it's like half my health!

I know I am doing something wrong because Abel plays so well but the lack of projectiles kill me against those kinds of Players that spam a Houduken over and over...

well if you have ultra and they are spamming fireballs ultra them on reaction if you can. also are u having problems with cr.hp into ultra? if so after you launch them with cr.hp wait until they have reached their peak or right as they are about to fall thats when you ultra. if you do it too early or too late you will miss. hope this helps! and if you need more tips or w/e just specify what you are having truoble with again and i can answer it that way :)

Shotos are the easiest to play!

I tend to start of a round with a roll. Shotos will either start the match backing up, jumping strait at you, or firing hadouken.

Anyway, just play REALLY REALLY safe. They'll throw out shoryu every time they're in range, or just outside the right range. If you let them whiff, you can f. mk > dash > command grab or whatever you wanna do.

And definitely look around the threads, and watch Busta's vids. Most educational thing you could do right now.

One this i want to point out is that is it just me or after I do Change of Direction then follow up with the kick it usually does not hit due to the speed of the attack.

For the most part though Abel is an awesome character and playing against all those ken's and Ryu's really help me develop my strategies a lot better.

Another little tip is that with projectiles you have a decent window to do ultra. I've landed so many ultra because of it. Just like busta said, wait a little after elbow to do ultra.

One little tip for shotos is to knock them down, dash up to them like you're gonna do something and just block. They'll shoryu and you'll get a free grab

If they start expecting that and blocking instead of reversaling you can roll forward to command throw. If they start jabbing you out of it you can EX just as they wake up. Added bonus, it will really piss them off, especially if you manage to land it two or three times in a row.

My favorite trick is to do a medium roll after an anti-air hp. You are too far away to be punished by any thing, really, but if they shoryu they will land right in front of your waiting arms.

if you follow up with the kick during CoD it will never connect its too slow. although if they like to do shoryu's on wake up its a great thing to just get close and block but smart players with throw you at times. so if you are going to do that i recommand to stay just out of throw range. also spicycrab watch out because like i said they might start throwing you, throws will beat abel's roll.

Dear Bustabust. How did you get so good with abel? Do you have a good 2D fighter foundation or do you just ape street fighter IV?

sorry for the double post, i have used abel since day 1 of playing sf4, i was horse shit at 3rd strike/played it for about a year and a half to 2 years and that was the only other game i have played. i dont really have much 2d fighter exp and never played st.
