View Full Version : Facing Wake Up SRK...

I really like to abuse throws, so I often knockdown into throw/trip/crossover mix-ups.
However, I can't seem to stuff SRKs and have to anticipate wake up SRKs with a block, comboing them on land.
Is there an effective way to stuff SRKs with Ken?
(How would I go about practicing this?)

In short, no.
The opponent isn't helpless against your meaty jump-ins and cross-ups, though. As before, Ken can counter with a Shoryuken to take advantage of the move's invincibility frames and high attack priority. A Shoryuken beats almost every other attack in the game, so your j.HK is no match for Ken's counter.
from the IGN guide. It says almost every other attack, but i'm not sure what those other attacks might be. I seem to recall getting stuffed by Rufus, so I suspect he has one. Regardless, I don't think you'll find anything to beat a reversal Shoryuken with Ken.

Thank you!
I've been improving my game by playing more safe!
(SRK forums was down, so I couldn't reply right after Mizuki's post...)

Wake up SRK is one of the least intelligent moves that a Ken player can use...?
edit: haha, I've been lurking SRK for 3 years now... and THIS is my first post. :\

Baiting is easy, but I just didn't know for certain whether SRK could be stuffed as in 3S.
So following that line of thought, I was attempting to stuff SRKs on a regular basis, which allowed free hits against me...
But no more, thanks to Duderin0's input.
I agree that baiting the wake up SRK and blocking is great but what is up with everyone acting like the shit when they explain (this basic tactic) but then go on to advice a sweep as if that is such a crucial offensive tool.
When someone whiffs a SRK you let them have it to say the least, please not just a sweep

True-True
The only time you sweep is if you don't think you can close the gap before they recover in time. If you are not 100% sure you can get to 'em quick enough... sweep. It's better to be safe than sorry - which is why they whiffed their DP in the first place.
My advice. Being right-infront of them on wake-up is strategically flawed. Their options increase.
You give them too many options...
1. Wake-up throw
2. Wake-up combo
3. Wake-up reversal
4. Wake-up reversal FADC ... ULTRA or THROW (on block)
Number 4 is the worst. You rarely can beat out a wake-up reversal, so, the odds are in his favour. But you think to yourself - I'll just block and F him up afterwards... at this point - he will FADC and then throw your arse.
You are Ken... your best distance of attack is at f+mk range. You can do many things at this distance. But let's look at what they can do...
1. Wake-up... nothing
Yeah... that pretty much summarizes it. That's their options
Now - your options...
1. F+mk
2. Dash and throw on wake-up
3. Cross-up on wake-up
4. FB on wake-up
5. Step forward on wake-up and cr.mk, FB
