Introduction:
Wow, I haven't written a strategy guide in a while. Sheesh. It's like the feeling you get right before you have to write a term-paper or an essay. PSYKE! LOL! I'm only joking this is cake. This little tutorial / strategy guide is written for all the people out there who want to or haven't mastered the most efficient character in Street Fighter IV. Now, there are certain people out there who might disagree with that statement or many others that I might say later on. But, for all those out there who wish to open their eyes and mind to a better way of using Ken or having decisions of using Ken. This is for you.
Section I: Mastery of Fists
During your challenges whether against the A.I. or other players across the globe you will notice that each character has a certain way about them (in terms of movement). They flow certain way. The hard thing is how to find out how each characters flows and utilizing your own way of "flow" while mixing / fusing it with that character's way of doing things. The trick is mobility. Throughout your time using Ken in the "Training Stage" try to figure out how he responds. Try to incorporate the aspects and specs that you've seen and possibly learned while studying Ken's frame data. After doing this, don't go straight off of a serious of times calculations but now think in a different means. Think in the terms of glitches or what-ifs. Try to size your opponent up by their first actions to figure out their: Aggressiveness, Defense, Power, Speed / Agility, and something I'm going to call "Luck". Now, the smart fighter won't rely on such things as luck. And, actually that's the smart thing to do. However, understand that luck can either win or lose you a fight. Also understand that it's good to have a 90/10 relationship when it comes to using the ratio of skill to luck. Now, moving along ever so swiftly you might notice that one of Ken's fastest moves when it comes to the Wake-Up Game and that of Zoning is his ability to throw his signature technique off at amazing speeds. The Shoryuken. Learn it! Master it! Breathe it! LMFAO! But, in all seriousness learn to throw one off at relatively high speeds. REMEMBER!!! FRAME DATA!!!!! Learn it and learn to compare it to other characters'. *Hint: Get the damn official strategy guide!* Now, in terms of fighting off against opponents who are cheap or plain out-power you. Use the "EX-Shoryuken". It not only provides a bit of power. But, it enables you to use it as a means of controlling the air. Hence why people believe that the Shoryuken is one of the best (if not) anti-air moves in the whole game. Ken is basically a master of the sky. And, here's the cool thing about Ken. If your opponent begins to catch-on that you're using your zoning via Shoryukens and Anti-Air. Then whip-out your knowledge upon frame data and use SenpuuKyaku and Hadouken instead. Or if you're REALLY variant in your abilities, then try to mix-up your Hurricane Kicks and Dragon Punches and Fireballs to ALWAYS keep your opponent guessing. Hehehe, now comes in Ken's great ability to Corner Trap his foes or as we call it where I'm from: "The Rapage of Combo Doom". Ken is a corner master. He works that corner better than a hooker in debt. ROFTFLMFAO!!!! Funny as it may be, it's true. And, you know it. How many times have you played a game and when you were trapped in the corner with nothing to do besides look on as your character gets truly AND literally destroyed from a barrage of attacks / techniques being placed upon you. Yeah, it sucks. So, why not fight fire with fire? Especially against those n00b hadouken spammers (*Cough* Ryu *cough*). Corner Trapping is the worst nightmare of a hadouken spammer. Or actually any spammer for that matter. Why? Because of the amount of time it takes for that character to perform that move in succession without missing. Can you say "Poking" YES! Pokes can lead to combos in this game. Combos then lead to health depletion. Health depletion leads to "OH NO! I JUST GOT MY ASS KICKED!!!!!".
Closing Words
Well, that's all for this part. There are many more parts to come as well as other tutorials / guides that I shall be making in the future. So keep 'dem eyes peeled you "fooshas"!!! >_< Anyways, take care. And, feel free to PM me if you have ANY questions, ideas, etc. Or, if you simply have a request of something you wish for me to do. Much love to the Shoryuken Forum and all my "Ken Users" and Street Fighter family. Peace! <3
