I was playing a friend of mine with Zangief. He was playing Dictator and preformed a scissor kick on opening of a round. I opened the round with a flat to a SPD, and I whiffed the SPD, and then preformed the SPD at the same time he pulled out the scissor kick. I was ready to eat the kick, but somehow I grabbed him out of the middle of his move and hit him with the SPD!

So I'm here to ask... what other moves does the SPD have a priority over?

I know he has priority over fireballs...

More than once a turtling Guile or Chun Li has had their fireballs pass through me as I begin the SPD animation. It's really funny to watch!

I wish I could have recorded that match. It looked like Bison lept feet first into the waiting and loving arms of Zangief.

don't know about priority but it might mean that bison is on the ground during scissors or part of scissors.

I've SPDed people in the middle of their Focus attacks (they weren't charging, they were attacking).

the scissor kick actually has a ton of grounded frames. its only airborne for 4 frames i believe. SPD has priority over it apparently and will grab bison out of the scissors if done at the correct time.

hmmm from what ive seen there are a lot even normals. I found that throwing out a spd while getting comboed works A LOT.

When i'm in a corner getting worked, I typically mash 360 lp. Works a good amount of time but it still leaves you in a corner....Then empty crossup. wakupSPD to safety.

If it's a REAL combo, you can't SPD.

If they screw up their combo, then you get a free SPD.

if there is even a split second between the hits(non combo) you can use the spd.

The thread title is awesome.

A couple of nights ago I was using Blanka and I had a Zangief nab me with his ultra right out of the air during an EX horizontal ball.

I'm pretty sure most of Gief's moves go through absolutely everything in the game. I've been ultra'd out of pretty much every move that ryu has in his arsenal. The best is being ultrad during a dp. Shoryu!...... ... . . . . slam, all my life gone. Yay...

My favourite incident relating to this was a blanka player who noticed I only needed chip to die and decided to meaty me with electricity.

Yes I had full ultra bar so I think you know how this ends.

You never know what things will beat until you try.

EX is good for beating meaties and such too I believe.

Yeah about that.

i found out yesterday that you can SPD the ultra close ranged.
very weird stuff. Gief vs Gief

guy i know Ultras, during the ultra i "mash" LP SPD. I grabbed him.
I might had done the SPD JUST before his ultra frame. Not really sure about that.

Also, it seems gief cannot Ultra any characters in the START of the ultra.
happened to me in 2 examples

gief on gief, We are both close range and to ultra at the same time, they both whiff.

i jump crossover Seth and he does his Ultra. I land on his back and Ultra right away. The Ultra Whiff.

I thought it was weird behavior.

I believe it has priority on Balrog's any dash punch. Before he even touches, SPD or bear rush will grab him.

Actually its not any, mostly if he over ranges his dash punch. If you are super close and he does a fierce, his character will push you before it actually punches you. These you can do anything youd like while hes pushing you. If he does a medium it is much harder to do and if he does a weak one its near impossible to do.

If you are playing a sorry boxer, feel free to SPD him when he does fierce dash punch when you are in jab range. You are right.

The best thing I love is countering Ryu's ultra with a lariat point blank. This one dude was on mic and was PISSED I could lariat through it. I think you can also counter Ryu's ultra with your ultra correct?

Lariat beats Gyro drive smasher, and I think Sakura's low kick super. (cause lariat has the sweep invincibility in this)
Clothesline beats so many supers...Crazy Buffalo, Tiger Genocide, a lot of others I can't remember.

Was playing the past few days and I am sure some of this may have been mentioned but just in case.

-You can SPD Sakura mid DP startup

-SPD will grab Balrog's EX Dash (I finished off a match this way when he was going for chip damaged and I was just about done)

-You can block buffer SPD Sakura's EX DP (you don't have to wait for her to go over you)

-Jumping MK can beat Rose's air throw if timed correctly. It took a couple of beat downs before I finally figured out how to stop it.

I find a good trick agains Ken/Ryu is if they are doing light DP on wakeup you can do a light hand and dash back. Block first just in case they EX DP and then jab light SPD to grab them if you see they are doing the light DP. Next time you try a crossup.

Zangief says screw your moves to nearly all of Fei Long's Moves.

Just countering Fei's Super alone, Zangief can: EX green hand, FA, Command Grab, Lariat, Super or ultra back. Well timed jabs and kicks also stop it, let alone just jumping over or blocking.

I really feel sorry for Fei in this matchup.

Ryu's ultra vs Zangief's Ultra, the fireball will win. It's happened to me before, so just stick to lariat. Only scrubs will throw it out without comboing it somehow though

At this point of my XBL career, I bait that. When I can tell a scrubbish Akuma player wants to hit me with a RD, I bait them with a right distance lariat to hit me with a low sweep. They then almost always go for the RD (read scrubby Akumas), and catch the ultra on wake-up. Against Akuma's with no 'fear', I try to keep it buffed as much as possible, I see them jump in and I start buffing waiting for that Ultra screen to flash.

One of my friends baited me into it by spacing his jab out a little further, off the block form the jab and seeing his ultra flash, I do the motion for mine, but he's still too far away. I still Ultra'd him twice that match hehe.

I fear no Akuma, my glowing hand and lariat they comfort me...

This happened to me last night with Gief against Ryu. I use Ryu sometimes (to see how he plays so I am better again him with Gief), but still a scrub with him, though I can beat most other scrub shotos with him. I just can't pull off Ryu's DP FADC into Ultra consistently, but you can tell the scrub players with the shotos.

What I also don't get is how sometimes shotos stand right next to you at wakeup. I don't like doing SPD on wakeup as good players bait you and they make you pay, but I don't get why they would try to throw you or combo on Gief wakeup just standing there. Easy punishment.
