I can't bring myself to play my old friend 'Zangy' anymore seeing as how egregiously Capcom n00b-ified the poor, cuddly Ruski. :shake:

If it's not his wiffy SPD or the ludicrous damage he does for normals, it's his stupid cheesy lariat and his overall cheapness. Whichever way I look at it, all the fun, and most importantly SKILL, has been sapped from using my one-time favorite. :sad:

And not having an alternative 'throw centric' character given T.Hawk and Sodom were inexplicable omitted ('DisAble', aka 'Monsieur Le Bore' and that scampering butt plug 'El Fucko' do NOT count!), just makes the bitter 'Gief pill all that much harder to swallow.

the best thing to do at this point is to look for better opponents, not give up your character.

yeah pretty much what eono said. Lariat isn't some automatic win button (I think that's Sagat's S.RH personally :P ).

I meet plenty of players online who can give me really hard fights. They either avoid lariat or punish it somehow.

That said lariat is a pretty good panic button and I'm trying to use it less because of bad habits, and where I could punish with a command throw instead for more damage.

no way, play my great Zangief takes real thinking once certain chars know how to start checking you from a distance, it gets real hard and annoying.

the only thing that i blame is why thay didnt make a cool lariat animation its just looks stupid thats why most ppl think it should be a stupid move and not a good one

My problem is, this current 'Gief incarnation seems to reward n00bish gameplay far too much. Where once 'Gief was an 'exclusive' character (ie. not every 'Ken hack' could use him successfully), he's now being whore by 'weekend gamer' plebes who've hardly played GAMES before, let alone a brawler... mush less Street Fighter! >_>

His n00b friendliness is attracting the dregs, and as such his reputation is fast-becoming irreparably damaged... that's what I'm alluding to. -_-

I must say that I almost always lose to noob-Gief players. Why??? I dont know. But I own Ken, Akuma and Sagat. I lost my first ken fight last night in two days.As always with Gief, Patience= abusive wins. And all of the characters Noob friendliness gives you more Noobs to practice on.

I'm dropping Gief too. It's not because he's cheesy (he's not) or too good (he's not, and I don't care about that anyway) or too bad (definitely not the case), it's just that I don't think he's as interesting as Dhalsim is. I'm still keeping Gief as a #2 for certain matchups and because I still think he's pretty cool, but for the most part, yeah, I'm dropping him.

Gief owned up in the arcades real easily for the first like month or so the game was out while other players slowly got used to the mechanics, moves, spacing, and strategy in SF4, but he's been going downhill in effectiveness ever since. He's still a good character, but cheesy or noob friendly? At lower play levels, for sure, but at reasonable levels of play, he's not.

I can see exactly what you are saying on xbl. when my game got stagnant i lost in bunches. when i started using more complex strategies i am beating the heck out of people. but they will adjust and i am seeing the (tiresome) weakness' (how can el fuerte slam me at will???!!) , of Gief. Lack of combos?? Sim is a combo Machine. Just the opposite of Gief.

playing Gief against akuma and sagat is a godamn nightmare...

Play against a mediocre Seth and see if that doesn't change your opinion.

If you believe gief's reputation is becoming tarnished then set out to fall into the category of skilled gief's. Why are you letting n00bs dictate your character choice you said he's your 'favorite', if so follow that path.

Yeah just to go to ranked matches, search for more skilled and you can bet theres going to be a handful that will punish that lariet if you're having such an easy time with gief.
