Lux is incredible, damn. Had intense matches, and he came out the victor in all of them. Whooped my Guile 10-0. Awesome games, man, I want to level up my Guile and fight you again :p. Absolutely beastly, saw through all of my shenanigans. I have to learn how to link that combo like he does, and FADC in the heat of battle like he does. Great fighting you, will play again.

Thanks for all the praise brothuh but you failed to mention how close some of those rounds were! I think when you implement his BnB chains that I was pulling up close your game will be a lot closer to being complete. Excellent games! I look forward to our next session.

I feel your pain, there's a lot of things wrong with ranked battles but I can't believe they didn't think people would disconnect before taking a loss...

Cot damn... had some absolutely HORRENDOUS showings against batmannnn (who has an extremely technical Guile by the way) just now. I don't know if it's cuz it's too late here (3:30A), I'm in a funk, or learning Cammy is getting in the way, but he ANNIHILATED me.

We gotta play again tomorrow during the day man. Throw those matches out, I haven't been that awful for about a year :rofl: You caught onto my strings pretty quick too. Gotta remember that I can't really trick Guile players since they know him pretty well, hehe.

ggs killa sasa. that was prolly just a warmup or an off day for ya, i can tell that ur guile isnt just a run of the mill guile. anyways, our matches were pretty close and fought most of our matches down to the wire. i was kinda tired when i fought ya (it was also 3:30am), hopefully i'll play better when we fight next time. good stuff tho, we guiles need to level up :tup:

haha yeah I'm referring to that Ning. He destroyed Gief too!! He told me almost everything gief can do on wake up gets beat out by abel's command throw. I learned that after I got knocked down and could never get back up hahaha

I really have to re-learn guile because I cr. rh way too much. I get countered now. It used to get all the newer players that didnt realize the 2nd kick was coming but the vets FA me after the first. Then it's downhill from there. hehe I pray my t5 stick comes in sometime this week so I can get out of this 2k funk

A jump on wakeup beats Abel's command throw. Then you have your own crossup splash -> followup. You can normally get away with it as long as you don't see a crossup coming.

How you link those combos are just sick, and I got pummeled to hell in the corners. Everytime i thought I was going to airthrow you, I was the one that ended up being thrown XD

I have tons of stuff I need to learn, using the focus, stop being so predictable, and pulling off combos consistently like that. For starters, whats a good tip for Guile once you've been knocked down and the opponent is right in front of you? Everytime i tried flash kicking when i got back up, i completely whiffed, same with the trip attack

Of course, but i'm not good with other chars yet, lol. the only other char ive played with is Fei Long. I did play Abel for a bit because i was trying to figure out his moves since he was giving me issues. we'll see how we do with our secondary characters :razzy:

I would suggest that you try to go to the "sf4 ps3 matchmaking" thread under the playstation network forum to fight other good people too. But the best Guile i've fought on psn is Lux tho, so yea, he's awesome guile practice.

Wakeup moves in general are normally bad to use because most good players will bait it or cross you up. To top it off, Guile doesn't even have any decent wakeup options anyway, so it's normally best just to block. If the situation permits...say someone blindly jumps in on you, you could FK or FA -> backstep but no one good will give you that option. Couple things I noticed was the abuse of cr. RH which will get you in trouble man. Pretty much any ultra/special in the game can interrupt the 2nd hit so use it sparingly or FA cancel out unless it's guaranteed. Also...install your game! lol

I use a controller as well. This is what my setup for Guile is.

square - Jab
Triangle - Medium
X - Short Kick
O - Medium Kick
L1 - Focus Attack
L2 - 3K
R1 - Fierce Punch
R2 - Fierce Kick

(Yah, I only change one button. And that's only because I don't see a need for having a 3P especially for Guile. He doesn't have a move that requires 3P). Plus, it's easier to pull off the Focus Attack on the fly without having to worry if you pressed only the medium punch or the medium kick only.

For all other characters I use the default setup

I was a beginner Guile, and it seems like I've just regressed. I need to go back to basics, been reading here and watching videos and I think I'm trying to do too much without having a solid foundation, e.g., being able to consistently pull off his BnBs.

I'm a defensive minded player (even in other games I play like FPSs & sports) so I'm more comfortable zoning than rushdown, but I tried to be more aggressive after getting some good beat downs from guys like luxxx. Luxxx was real cool and gave me some good advice (I'm more conscience of backing myself into a corner) but I'm trying to get better so when I play u guys u don't feel like u're in Training mode with 1 star, lol.

Definitely. Fei's supposed to be all about speed, aggression and alot of mixing up. Unfortunately, his block strings are a tad bit difficult getting used to as I need to hit confirm before going into a series of moves. Honestly, I'd think he would be great against a Guile player (in the right hands, that is). He's definitely dangerous against Sagat and the Shoto users.

The thing is I rarely even land that combo! I felt like I was on point that day so I said what the hell and gave it a shot. You can basically see that combo and it's variations in the gilley combo video.

didnt get to play much against nemesys as he had to leave. with batmann it was fun. played about 9-10 matches(?). very aggressive guile compared to mine but prone to making mistakes just like me. his use of FA screwed me a lot as i am an old school guile player and dont make use of FA a lot. kicked my guile's ass 5 times. good stuff.

lol..not sure about the low roundhouses dude. i rarely get FA'd when doing low roundhouses on online games. could be due to mixups i use that people cant expect what's coming next. i think there was minimal lag but not much. your FA to ultra was killing me.


Plus, I've been focusing on Fei Long quite abit as of late.

Had fun with your Fei nemesys. that last match against your Fei and my Balrog was great. Close match. Although Im not that good with Balrog but I had a nice practice against your Fei. I tend to play Balrog very aggressive like in SF2 days and I get completely annihilated on online games.

lol..not sure about the low roundhouses dude. i rarely get FA'd when doing low roundhouses on online games. could be due to mixups i use that people cant expect what's coming next. i think there was minimal lag but not much. your FA to ultra was killing me.



Had fun with your Fei nemesys. that last match against your Fei and my Balrog was great. Close match. Although Im not that good with Balrog but I had a nice practice against your Fei. I tend to play Balrog very aggressive like in SF2 days and I get completely annihilated on online games.

Definitely some awesome games there Oscillator. There were times where I felt like I was running around the stage like a headless chicken. lol. Both you and Batmann are quite abit of fun to play against.

Anytime bro. Even though guile mirrors are extremely boring to me right now. I think if you capitalized on downs and don't put yourself in a corner you'd find yourself greatly improved.

You're no noob. You have the basics down, you just need to implement advanced Guile techniques: FAs, EX cancels, crossups, mixups. Guile is pretty limited so we Guile users have to use everything at our disposal. Maybe when we have more time to play I can offer more specific advice.

Sure! I think I hit you up today but you missed it or something. We can try a mic if you want but it normally adds lag which isn't too good of an idea. I can always PM you here after we get done with a set and your gameplay is fresh in my mind. If you see something that works for me though, give it a shot. I don't expect anyone to Xcopy my style but if you guys get new ideas that you can incorporate in to your own game by all means it's a great way to improve.

Hey guys. I main Guile cus hes a bada$$ lol. Im around 2400GP and improving slowly. For some reason i have no probs against Sagats but major probs against Vega, Seth, Bison and the occasional Ryu.

PS: Ive noticed recently that my moves are coming out wrong. eg. Ex boom comes out focus attack, lp:boom coming out as a kick. whats going on here? Ive got 3 pads and two of them are really bad for this. Is this are common problem?

i personally havent heard anything about this issue. that is truly strange if ur pressing the correct button. maybe you havent charged enough is the only thing i can think of other than a controller malfunction.. my recommendation is to buy the te stick.

Unfortunately, I've been ignoring Guile quite abit and it's starting to show seriously bad. All I've been focusing on is Fei Long. (I know he's really good and I won't give up til I can turn him into an extremely deadly speed demon. Effective too.)

More thanks to Oscillator and (Luxxx too. Remember when I asked about Guile blockstrings and setups?) for helping me analyze some of Guile's blockstrings and combos. Although, no offense but Luxxx's strings were more airtight. lol. Went into the training room afterwards and recorded/playback some of the block strings/sb setups both of you guys used. And trained to see what I can break them with against Fei Long and forcing it into muscle memory/reaction.

The results of that training I was able to test out with Batmann (really really good games lol). Noticed at one point, you started doing empty jump ins. And damn, did you really have to finish with FADC > Ultra? lmao.

It's a blast playing with pros like all of you. =)

Any suggestions or advice or rating on my gameplay would be extremely nice. (Be honest, too. I'd rather honesty so I can concentrate that much harder on problem areas.)

GGS Nemesys. i'm definitely not a pro in this game since i still get beat all the time and i never played tourney, lol. Im sure u noticed, but im pretty rusty with guile since ive been off sf4 for a couple of weeks. hopefully i can remember wut i was doing before and give u a better fight next time.

ur fei is pretty good man. i thought ur use of the command throw was pretty good, but once i stop letting u in, that kinda stopped that portion of ur mixup. i dink u need to try to get in better with fei, maybe use max range rh. chicken wing or ex chicken wing to get in on me. u were gettin hit with his s. fp alot and u should try to stay out of range of that and maybe try to lk. chicken wing it or dash back and then rekka but im no fei expert. u should use his dashes more, especially his backdash which is super fast. also, u should use his FA more, its very fast and has good range on it. and u definitely need to stay in max range for a jab rekka. u can punish any missed pokes from that range and more importantly, i dink the 1st jab rekka is safe on block. yea, like i said im no fei expert and im horrible at analyzing anyones game or my game which explains why im not at a better playing level like lux. i was just tellin u things that other fei's that beat me that you weren't incorporating into ur game. im sure ull make him as deadly as these other fei's ive met.

and yes, FA2 > ultra was a requirement for me to show you that i learned something new (and useless in most situations), lol. its all good man, keep up the fight man. i'll use more bison next time too since im learning him to be my secondary. GGs again.

The good thing about my Guile play is that I don't need to keep a constint charge for my booms and flash kicks. I charge them when I need them and thats why I prefer an agressive style of Guile play. I really dislike turtling and spamming moves, waiting for the person to try and jump in, but then again, I guess thats sometimes what you just have to do in certin matchups. Still dislike Blanka matchups though. Hard to focus attack a blanka when the blanka roll breaks it. There's a few things I need to do thats a bit against my play style like trying to jab you out of the Blanka Roll more and stop Sonic booming after the blanka roll because of your river run. I'll try out a different strat next time dude. Maybe make you come to me more. But hey, winning 2 out of 5 ain't bad.

Lux's Guile is really good, very quick and precise and the use of FA really gave him more edge! Been practicing FA, still can't get it down on the go in actual matches...-_-

Got a few questions about matchups...

vs Abel: I've exhausted all options but when again an Abel that knows what he's doing I get stuffed no matter what I do, especially when he crosses me up...what are some of your strategies against a good Abel? What not to do?

vs Rufus: same, exhausted all options. can't counter at all, every move I make get stuffed by Messiah Kick then his Ultra juggle ends it...I played this Japanese guy earlier today, tried Air Throw but his jumping HP always got me first...and that dive kick...guh....Has anybody fought a good Rufus and got owned?

vs Balrog: I must say, one of the "cheapest" characters ever...I even had a few that knocked me out of my Ultra when jumping fierce while they were in mid air....and always get out-jabbed, every time...

Also, this has happened to me many times already, while the opponent still above my head while charging down, executed Ultra and opponent still in the air, they ended up blocking it....like they teleported from air to land. Anyone had this problem before?

lol, well I wanted to play guiles from here to learn things from them and incorporate to mine, even tho I won most of our matches, dont feel bad, I am at 16500 while you are at 25000, im 50% win rate in g1. And I am sure you have better days, I liked your 5-6 combos ending in roundhouse, I would love to keep cheking you out on those. Over all you are very aggressive while I am a ninja turtle, too bad my friend amix (six axis awesome player) has made me this way, he just keeps the pressure nonstop with his links and medium fireball fadc crumple shit to crossup grab mix. He told me he didnt use that shit on you, lol. If anything just work the clock on guile mirror, if you have a 20% healt lead, just turtle it with boom, let me do the risk jump. Thats how I manage to win against you, add a couple of unexpected grabs here and there. You were really bad against them. Thats why I won. But looking forward to improve together, my game is simple, no links just bnb, and Normals but I want to look expectacular like that replay you have on psn. Awesome

ggs monsterer i wish we could have played on a better connection because it was extremely frustrating trying to play a mirror match against a turtle guile on a one bar connection lol. that's why i had to switch to akuma (and failed miserably).

anyways after our 5-4 thriller, i narrowly lost out to your friend 4-5. i think all of his wins came as ryu...but he left after i beat his ryu clean in the last game lol. our connection was better than the one i had against you, but still not that great. so in the end i went 10-10 with the two of you hehe.:rofl:

yeah, they were close games, all I had to do vs you was turtle 100% to maximize a win on a round, but I was affraid of you telling me how turtle I am, because the game turns ugly. On guile mirrors I rarely attack , I just play the boom game and normals, work the clock. I will get out of my shell once I can finish my links consistently.

Vs Aeroplane, I did play more solid because I felt the need. Aminx(RYU) and I believe he is more aggressive and dangerous. I don’t know how you guys do among yourselves. The only round I felt you did really good was when you started the wake up grabs. My little advice is "You really need to grab more". Be DIRTY. Both of you are very nice when you do safe jump ins, you finish with c.lp,c.mp,sb(never mix throw or another cross-up). From my first impression, you deal badly with cross-ups, this is exactly what my friend told me, “he eats them clean”.

I wish I could link like you guys, hopefully I'll be able to do it soon.

I believe our guiles are pretty even, but different. Aero is dangerous up front and combos very nice, You have a little bit of everything (links, defense, etc), I am a turtle and use normals (play dirty).

lol don't worry about it. you are right, i am not used to playing someone on a one bar connection. if it wasn't you i wouldn't have played at all.

basically the only reason i played THAT OFFENSIVE was because it was a one bar connection and you weren't going to come out of your shell. i could have sat there and played turtle too but it would have made for a boring match. on a one bar connection if both of us are playing that boring it would just be horrible and you know it would lol. plus it was hard for my technique to be on point when it was one bar.....i was missing booms ect. that's not an excuse, but i think i would have been able to capitalise much more on your defensive strategy if the connection was better.

as for the grabs....do you think i wasn't teching when you did three in a row? lol. as for mixups not ending in throw, it's something i actually do a lot.....and a mean A LOT. if i wasn't doing it against you i don't know why. i love ending a string of moves with sonic boom fadc throw.

so in summary i think it's hard to judge our matches at all because not only was is a mirror match, but it was played on a one bar connection. i am not going to judge your guile whatsoever other than say it wasn't bad, because it wouldn't be fair to judge from the circumstances we were playing under. end of story.:rofl:

oh and i think that comment from your friend about eating crossups "clean" is funny, he obviously has a very short memory. the last match ended in crossup throw that got teched, then he tried crossup into fadc srk that i blocked into my st.hp for the win....so i don't know what his point is. if he wants some constructive criticism tell him that he needs to work on his footsie game because i had his ryu beat on that one.

i know you think he's much better than you ect....but i don't think he is THAT much better. i don't consider someone better than me if all they use is guile counters and leave after i win 3 in a row to bring it back to 5-4. if he is the best ryu that you know then honestly you need to play the NEXT LEVEL...the ones that beat you 10-1.

I have not met a Ryu like that yet. The best one I played is aminx but once again, we know each other inside out. And as for the 1 or 2 or 3 bar connection, you should know that you are using the internet, so games will always have delays. No matter how green it is, even on full green connections, the game will never be as accurate as playing at the exact same console or arcade. I believe once you leave your bar comments on the side, you will enjoy the game better and have a positive influence on your sf4 friends. Trust me, I do understand how lag affects the game. You are not going to give me a lesson on lag. Ive learned that it is best to go for the throw first, the worse thing that can happen is a TECH.

All I can say, I cant help my connection, we live too far away. My goal here is not to beat up guiles, nor to flame someone(it seems you are heading in that direction). If that is the case we can call it END. Good luck finding decent players in your same neighborhood so you can play your IDEAL game.

i'm sorry but it was a horrible connection. the other guy above me (eitook) who has also played you is from london too. he also says the connection was horrible. am i saying it's your fault? no. it's just because you live in mexico and i live in england, nothing more.

the game will never be accurate online, i agree. however, i would say 95% of the matches i play online are more accurate than the set i had against you. if i was blaming a defeat on lag i would understand why you thought i was bitching, but i won our set. the only thing i was saying was that I WISH we could play on a better connection so we could have better matches against each other. don't take it to heart or think that it's supposed to mean something against you because it's not.

my connection with aminx was twice as good as the connection i had with you. i lost to him fair and square 5-4.

After played SF4 over PSN and over PC, the connection over the PC is much more stable and much more reliable. You'd easily find 3 bar connections. You'll even find more 4-5. I'm no longer losing because my cr.fp doesn't come out. I'm losing because of (mostly) my stupidity.

I think I've seen more 4-5 bars playing on PC than I have on PS3. Unfortunately, the pool of PC players is limited compared to the PSN ones.

just so that you know Mexico has one of the top 3 richest man on earth. He owns Telmex, mexican telephone that services Latin america. This company is selling us 1 meg connection at a rate of 35 dlls a month. It does not allow any other company to come in and sell internet and if it does, telmex will rent the infrastructure. The telephone structure here in mexico is pretty old, so instead of 1 meg, make it .8 meg. You want me to pay 60 dlls for 2 megs to have 3 bars?? I dont think so, be happy with what you have. I have 3-4 lines vs USA users, London No Sir.

I originally had my PS3 on WiFi then changed to ethernet (using secondary router as a switch - maybe I should see what happens when I directly connect to my main router), which made a difference indeed! However, the change wasn't monumental.:sweat:

IMO, I don't really mind where you are. If the connection allows 3 or more (and actually plays like it), then it's all good. Playing on a 3 bar connection is better than going to <insert location of your opponent> via airplane. :looney:

sup dude? yeah i started doing that kinda shit more for sure. I was told by someone else i play regularly after that that my defense got better so i think i got a little better since then. One thing that would be great in the matchmaking for SSF4 is setting the country as priority instead of the language. When I search for English, I get folks from across the pond and down undah, which is invariably one bar.

why was online so thrown together on this game?

is it down to the fact that in japan everyone has great connections, thus sf4 online only needed a very simple interface? why on earth would you want to search for a match by language and not country? that is simply retarded.

Just picked up Guile about a month ago looking for some shennigans to pickup. I'm in Edmonton Alberta Canada so my connection to socal is about 3 bars and 4-5 bars anywhere else along the west coast all the way to alaska. My other char is Chun so if you need practice against her that's cool too.

I played a bit over the weekend on PSN and jebus, the connection was horrible.

While Windows Live has more stable and better connection, the competition doesn't seem to be that good compared to PSN.

So I'm wondering, is it harder on PSN because of the crappy connection (I get at BEST 3 bars, MAYBE 4 if the planets are aligned) or the competition is better? Or is it that I actually play better on a better connection (surprise surprise).

I'm not sure if you guys have played the PC version, but it's an issue that came up. No doubt, there are some guys online on the PC version that are good (got mopped by an Elf...), but comparatively speaking, not as strong. Does a better connection make a better player?

And yes, I know that the best connection is sitting across from the guy in an arcade, but such luxuries aren't always available to us....

Connection is always a problem. Bar strength doesn't tell the whole story. I've played some decent 2's, and I've had 5's that were absolutely slaughtered by slowdown. I guess it's because the bars only represent the connection when you meet in the lobby. After that, they could be downloading a bunch of stuff or even using a lag switch.

Of course, there are a lot of great players on PSN. Then there are the people who are ONLY good online. Lag makes it harder for us to compete with either.

No doubt that there are people who are only good online. Abusing the lagginess of the network. But as you'd said, there are undoubtedly people who are good.

Aside from the normal tech throws, and 1 frame links, if you have a decent Guile online (assuming good connection), it would translate into a decent Guile at the arcades. I could be wrong, but at least I don't get my ass whooped if and when I go to the arcade...

As for the bar strength, it's probably more accurate for the PC version than PS3. I wonder if they should have a mini strength bar in the corner somewhere. That'd probably be a bad idea as it would interfere with the HUD...

I sort of agree. I find online good for overall strategy and learning match-ups (or should I say match-up. Ryu anyone?). However, playing a ton online was making me fall into some really bad habits, like:
--not going for 1 frame links because they couldn't be trusted
--not going for some punishes because of lag-crap (Ken's FP SRK) and playing it safe instead

Those are just 2 examples, but they are good examples of how I was forming bad habits by trying to "compete" online. I feel I am much better now that I only do online for fun and general match-up tinkering.

yup these are my problems with online mode too. offline i have no problem with 1 frame links..the problem is my only competition is my brother, who beats me once every 10 games kinda deal.

i think that they should be made 2 frame links in super...just because how this game is being catered towards online play.guile is really hurt by lag, where lag makes ken better imo.

Yeah that was some vggs last night! Your friend used like 5 different characters but I think his best character against me was his Ryu. I wasn't really able to form any type of defence or offence against him so I guess you could say I was turtling by default.

True about mirrors, it ends up in a battle of who can trow more booms precisely, if you get to land a FK you have the game down pretty much.

Guile mirrors are fun. Extremely tactical matches. A lot of mindgames when you're playing against a decent one. Though there are some Guiles who throw me off. I played against a Guile online last night, who kept jumping in on me. He nearly beat me. I hate having to train Guiles to play this mirror match correctly. Random Guiles who jump in all day give me the most issue

My advice is play champ, and get in a better category. Currently I am g1 15400, but I restarted since the day modern warfare 2 came out since my ps3 died and had to replace it and switched to a different account. Back then I had 18000 points. Since then , Ive been playing champ on new account. I almost didnt lose in g3, g2 you get to see a superior level player once every 10 matches, I made g1 3 days ago, so it took me about 1.5 months to be in g1. Now in g1, I've gotten to finals 3 times already, lost one, won one, today ill see what the outcome of the third is. ON an average I get to play to the 3rd or 4th fight. The competition is really good in g1. Two months ago I was not wininng in g1 as I do now, maybe the quality of players is not that great since now there are more g1s in it or maybe it is me being more experienced. A little of both I would say.

Yeah, ill play you anytime, and Ill make you play my friends, some of them beat me pretty often.
