I've been following the Akuma section (and watching tonnes of momochi videos) since I got SF4 (i'll admit i am a scrub/noob etc) but I have been playing other SF games (alpha 3, 2 turbo, MvsC2 mainly) so I have a good idea, but SF4 is really the first time I've played against people not CPU) I do play ranked and I'm around 2500bp and I've only ever played with Akuma

But.

I've been practicing a lot of combos and learning the lingo but the one things I am having trouble with is crossups. Every time I play someone who's doing them, they seem to happen a lot faster, that when I attempt them.

Am I correct in thinking you press DB+mK at the same time whn really close?

and another question, what is hit confirm? does it mean I can start a combo after I've hit the other person with a attack of (for example) i hit someone with lk, lp, lk and it then opens them up for DB.K -> combo?

Sorry for the scrubness but I want to learn akuma as much as I can

Firstly, welcome to the Akuma forum. I hope you'll have as much of a chance to learn and discuss concepts in SF4 as I have, and the rest of us too.

For future reference, there are a lot of people on this board who will flame you for starting a thread about something that you could just as easily find out just by searching through existing threads, or looking up a glossary of basic terminology that can be found all over the internet (the wiki section on the main shoryuken.com site, for example). But, just this once, I'll let you off and give you a hand.

Firstly, yes that is exactly what hit confirming is. You hit with a couple of relatively safe moves from which you can go into a bigger combo on reaction once you see that the attacks are hitting and not getting blocked.

I have no idea what you mean by pressing db+MK at close range. db+MK doesn't do anything except throw out a crouching MK. A crossup is when you jump over the opponent and, while airborne, use an attack in such a way that will hit them on the back, so they will have to press the opposite direction to successfully block. With Akuma, this is most usually done with j.MK. So when you jump over the opponent and use MK, it will look like Akuma's knee is hitting them on the back of the head / shoulder area.

Again, this is extremely basic stuff that you could easily have found out by casting a cursory glance at any movelist / glossary, or any number of existing threads here on the board. Try to take part in existing conversations rather than start up a whole new thread about some basic question in future.
