View Full Version : Countering Akuma's Raging Demon Super/Ultra

I have a question about countering Akuma's Raging Demon super/ultra with Gouken.

I already know that I should jump out of the way once I see the super/ultra amination start, but is it possible to use the ground counter as a different strategy to punish the attempt? I haven't had a chance to try it out myself, the idea just came to me. I probably would mess it up if I tryed; my timing with the counters is not the greatest.

Thanks.

I don't think you can counter grabs.

I think this post should be re-posted in a new thread, and pace a sticky on it.

Post of the real list of supers/ultras Gouken can counter (http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=6197245&postcount=73)

With Akuma's Ultra:
-Akuma's Ultra is easy to avoid but tricky to punish, because if you jump over him, or jump in place, you wont punish it... If he starts it when you are on ground, or if he hits you with one lp because he was not fast enough, you have to jump back, just letting him pass below you, and as soon as you land, punish him.

-If he does it as a Anti-air, or after you do a backjump, dont hit hk because a lot of times that kick misses. Hit him on your way down with hp or mk, you will hit him if you aim for his head (don't try to hit him low), and then punish.
An air Tatsu is good to avoid being hit, and you can do it on reaction after his ultra animation, but you will avoid the ultra but he will recover faster than you and you will eat a combo, so... try to hit him hard on your way down.

-From the ground... if you are far and can time your attack right, you can hit im in the face even with a lp, so you can do anything to him except palm, but if you mess the timming you are doomed.

-From the ground but close range, if you are doing anything besides a lp hadouken on his face, or a tatsu (will either hit him or jump over him), you will be doomed.
If you are doing anything when he does ultra, you are fucked (like with all ultras).

-If you are standing neutral, you can do your own ultra on reaction, after his animation (like nearly all ultras), but the safest is to jump back, let him pass below you, and ultra him from behind.

With Akuma's Super:
Is faster in execution but the same applies, except if you are crouching right in front of him... no way out. If you are standing or he hit's you with a lp, you can still jump.

If he have Super at full, he can do a void crossup or a void jump to you and do it just when he touches ground, if you are crouching guarding and he do the moves right and the lp don't came, he got you.

If you have an Ultra stored, just time it so when he starts his animation, launch the Ultra. Works every time. I love baiting Akuma players to launch the Raging Demon from a decent distance and slamming my fist into their stomach.

If you don't have an Ultra to use, just play it safe and jump out of the way.

I've seen a few akuma players who use Ultra on wakeup if you are close... as usual, in an ultra vs ultra, the second one usually wins, so if your timing is good, you can do it.

Online, lag will kill you unless you mash the ultra.

I love it when Akuma players perform a raging demon when i have a Ultra stored....this what i do..

When the perform it do a back jump>Back Throw>Ultra.

I love it.

Wouldn't an EX tatsu get you out of it even if you are crouching?

If Akuma is in my face and I see his Ultra startup and I've also got one stored I feed it to the ugly bastard. Mash it out when his Ultra startup animation begins - you'll be surprised how often (and easily) it connects.

This. Connects every time for me.

That is well known.
In all sf4, in an "ultra vs ultra" war, usually the second one wins.
If someone just uses Ultra, and you have yours, there are only a few character matchups where the second don't win...

It's not "LOL ULTRA VS ULTRA" it's all about frame data.

Gouken's Super is invincible from frames 1-12, and hits on the 11th frame.

Gouken's Ultra is invincible from frames 1-11, and hits on the 11th frame.

Take this in to account when considering the fact that Akuma's ultra and super are grabs, and you cannot grab invincible frames, and you can easily understand why Gouken's super/ultra beat Akuma's if he is in range for the initial hit.

This makes great sense and should come in useful when a Demon'ing Akuma is on your ass or real close. MASH IT OUT

Yes it is "lol ultra vs ultra" :D
A lot of characters share the same invicible frames on startup, so usually the second one will win.
Gouken's ultra can stop nearly everyone's, it's one of the best ultras of the game.
Akuma's ultra is great too, but on a different way, and it loose to nearly everyone's in an ultra vs ultra war.

Another AWESOME use for gouken's ultra is to hit akuma if he wants to make you eat chip damage on your wakeup with the red 3x fireball and he is midrange. If you time ultra on your wakeup, you can hit him on the hands.
The range of this situation is awesome, but it happens a lot. (He hits you with whatever, you fall right in front of him, he backdash fast and does red fireball to force you to eat chip damage or ex-demon-flip, you wakeup with ultra and BAM!)
