LB, I did a madcatz xbox hack today, and the pcb has changed since you made your page. The solder points for back and start are no longer there. You actually have to scratch your own points and junk. The crossbar was correctly mapped on the one that I did, and like you, I sacrificed an old Dreamcast hack to do it.
A few notes for anyone that is doing it.
If you are using one of the old dreamcast hacks with 2 grounds, you are going to have to rewire the joystick with a common ground.
I ended up leaving the triggers on the pcb intact. I have not have the problem that LB had.

I cut the plexi myself. I dont get really get home depot to do much. I got a huge sheet of plexi for 45 dollars ( about 30 US). It is 4 ft x8 ft. So i m pretty sure home depot would tell me to piss off if i brought that in.

Anyone know how to wire perfect 360 joysticks to a mad catz dreamcast pad? I was thinking of buying one but wasn't sure if I'd be able to wire them correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never hacked a Mad Catz DC pad, so I couldn't tell you. Nevertheless, you can get a continuity tester and find the 5v on the pcb. Here is a site that shows the 5v as it comes into the pcb.
http://mc.pp.se/dc/controller.html
The 5v connection is mainly used to power the vmu. Again, you can use a tester to find the 5v on the VMU connections and solder off that.
If you don't know what you are doing, you can blow your DC controller ports.
Now, if you don't want to do this, another option is to buy a 5v power supply from radioshack and plug the 360s into the wall independant of the DC power. This is actually a better option if you are doing combo sticks, because you don't have to worry about finding a 5v soldering point from every pcb that you hack.
Edit: Aside from having to find a 5v power from somewhere, all other instructions that you will find should stay the same. Check out CD Vision's page for the Mad Catz PCB hack.

the happ site has been down all day?
i'm going to try to get a hack started soon for an xbox stick.
a couple questions i've got
1. the reflex arcade stick DOES work with the p360?
2. anyone have the dimensions, or better yet, a template, of the mas box?

I had just recently got a p360 for my joystick. i made the stick with the psx1000 pad. i got a mutlimeter from roadio shack.
my question is how do i find the +5V?
do i set the tester on AC or DC?
Which lead do i use? the red one or black? both?
Do i just point on all the solder points?
sorry i never used a mulitmeter before.
also on the p360.
it says face the eletrical part to the players right side.
does that mean palce the part with the up,down, left, right conections to the players right or the part with the ground and +5V to the players right?
Thanks

And I thought I had seen it all. How the fuck did you fit a new controller in there? I took my agetec apart and it was tight as hell in there! I respect the skills!

i usually buy small ones so i could easily get them cut... i don't make alot... so i buy the smallest rectangles.

E-ring or C-clip?
if it was the C-clip then you besta look for it!!. .Thats the only thing holding your joystick together! without it you'll just be able to lift the stick right outta your box...

Yeah the docs from Happ call it an E-Ring. Without it (or a suitable replacement) your joystick isn't going to be secured.
I don't know if they sell those in hardware stores, but you should probably be able to jury rig it somehow if you can't find it. Or maybe if you call Happ they can get you just one of those.

03-04-2003, 02:56 PM
Yeah they sell the E-ring or C-clip at most hardware stores. If not at home depot then u should try your local nut and bolt specific store. I would take the stick itself and the documentation if it has the specs for the size of it.
Also some one said the X arcade does not have a 5v wire on it, what I was wondering if the lil red light will be ebough to power a 360 er what ever. I am not gonna do this for myself since I dont like 360's but just a heads up for those who do have one.

Several people have mentioned converting namco/shadowblade sticks with new parts. As far as i know this will not work. There are no US sticks that are actually made with standard us dimensions/parts outside of MAS/custom/X-arcade/maybe that red octane?. Namco/other sticks may be made to japan specs but i don't know for sure. Someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Let me answer the easy questions first. They recommend that you face the joystick the right way... however if you get it wrong, it makes no big deal. The directions just won't correspond to the lables. <-- but if you can get it right... why not eh?
OK well with the multimeter thing... what kind of PCB are you working with.
First turn on your multimeter on a voltage setting. Then plug in your PCB so it's powered. Put one pin on ground and use the other pin to test for the +5v. Start by testing the tail end of all the wires coming in from the port.
WHen you see the voltage register as 5 then you've found our +5v.
Sometimes it won't be 5v. Some boards won't have that... i.e. a 3v or a 7v will have to do.

Also for those interested, the red octane stick can be used with a standard arcade style joystick. I just cracked mine open and looked around

If you're using the same controller as me... you wanna wire the +5v from Pin 5 (VCC) on your PSX pad.
I used the SONY brand PSX pads and it was the RED wire.
WHen I tested it with the multimeter, it registered as 3v... but everything seems to work just fine.

Hey, I have a question for you guys.
I have an ASCII Ware stick and It has the black shit over the contacts. I have heard that you can kill a PCB by hitting these contacts too hard, is that true? Also, how hard would it be for a beginner to scrape it off and be successful?

Regarding the voltage on the PS/PS2 pad, the supply from the system is 3.3v, so you won't get a full 5v. From everything I've read and been told, the 3.3v will work just fine. Alternatively, there's a voltage regulator on the larger shock motor that outputs >7v. Not sure if this could be harmfull to the P360 though. I'd recommend sticking with the 3.3v. That's what we're using for our sticks, although we haven't tested yet, we're still in the main construction phase.

BUT, here are the buttons

03-07-2003, 07:36 PM
is there any performance difference between the competition and ultimate buttons?
Subliminal: yes, wire position. If you think about it, a microswitch goes off when the stick actually hits it. If two wires go to a microswitch for the left position on one stick, obviously those same two wires will go to the left position on another stick.
Morphiend: I believe that the difference that ultimates are concave while competitions are convex, easier to mash & similar to Japanese buttons.
and... of course, THE PLUG (http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23587)

It takes longer to push in ultimates because the buttons are taller, you can mash comps hella fast. That is the only diff.

Right now Im working on improving my homemade joystick (so it looks as l337 as some of the examples Ive seen from you people). The three main things I'm planning on doing are building a new box for the joystick (I'm most likely gonna copy the dimensions from someone else's project, most likely cdvision's panel dimensions), using t-molding (I'm not too sure about how to put this in but Ive seen it in other joysticks and it looks great), and printing out some artwork and putting plexiglass on top of the artwork. Does anyone here have some helpful tips? I'm looking for help specifically in the area of how to use plexiglass and t-molding. Also, what type of wood do you use and what kind of finish do you use? Thanks in advance.

i would really appreciate it if someone could answer these questions.
Modifying a Mas Stick
Ok I'm thinking of somehow making my Mas xbox compatitable. Since I have no experience in building sticks I have a couple of questions:
If I add another pcb to my Mas, could I just twist the wires connecting to my new pcb with the old ones and use them on the same quick disconnect?
Why does my Mas have the ground wire only soldered to 1 button? Isn't the ground supposed to be connected to every button and direction switch?

okay i made a commitment to myself to make a joystick. i have all the cutting tools, wood, and screws, but i need, according to CD_Vision's arcade controls. But the soldering shit is complicated:
For soldering onto the game pad:
-Soldering Iron (You may find that a lower wattage, like 15, is easiest to use)
-Solder (15 AWG Rosin Core)
-Wire Stripper
-Small Gauge Wire, Stranded 20-22 AWG or smaller
-(Optional) Dremel or other rotary tool
-Spade Connectors (Only needed for keyboard hacks)
-Screw-Down Barrier Strips (Only needed for keyboard hacks)
please help me someone and WHERE IS ROTENDO? i'mma message you iight?
ps...can someone give me the measurements on how to build a freakin josytick? :)
can someone give me a brief explanations on how complicated the insides of the sticks will be?

It registers button pushes intermittently in addition to directions. We reverified all our solder points and solder finishes a dozen times, but everything looks perfect.

is x-arcade still selling buttons and competition sticks? i can't find that stuff on their website, all i see is premade sticks for 1 and 2 players.
where else might i find competition sticks? and their buttons were sold for really cheap. happ's comp buttons are so expensive. dammit.
hi i have a 2 player x-arcade and i like some help finetuning it
i really have trouble doing half circle motions on it (and circle also ) it's just weird and loose
I try the tip on how to bend the plate on their website but i think that make the stick even worse
I play mvc2 alot and sentinel 's fly mode require alot of half circle motion so it really annoying to not able to input the motion correctly
I was wondering if there's any way to make the stick more sensitive and better at doing the half-circle motion
ps. in case this was mentioned already in this threadi'm sorry , but please post a link to that thread thanks

Hey. I just bought the Red Octane about 2 weeks ago and let me tell you my experiences with it.
PROS: The box is well made and sturdy. Also the price is good for what it is. The stick is a 360 (I think) and the buttons are a little stiff, but that was fixed after about a week of regular play.
CONS: I dunno if this is a problem with all of their sticks or if mine was just bad. It was VERY, VERY hard to hit diagonals with the stick. I could not perform a fireball to save my life in GGXX so that ticked me off a bit. Also, they decided to disable the L1 and L2 triggers. Ok for some, but it gets annoying having to unplug your stick and plug in a DualShock just to pick an EX character. That made me real mad at first, but things got better after I switched the stick out for an Ultimate (personal preference)
OVERALL: If I just recieved a bad stick than I would say that people on a budget like myself should try this one out, but I cannot tell you anything else due to my bad experience. But, I have dealt with them in the past for buying 2 DDR Ignition pads. The quality and service I recieved when dealing with that makes me believe that I had gotten a bad stick. Hope this helps you out.

To tell you the truth, buy happ controls sticks and buttons...may be a little more expensive, but definately worth the money. Theres people on this thread swapping out x-arcade parts for genuine happ controls for a reason. You pay for what you get, on a budget? wait a lil longer and save. I'm not saying get a P360(awesome tho!), atleast get a comp. stick and happ buttons. Its seriously worth it!!!IMO

so it's possible to switch the x-arcade joystick with the one they sell at happs control? i thought x-arcade stick can't be replaced ..
if so, is the process complicated ?
which joystick from happs control do you recommend ?, which one is the best next to 360

After a few weeks of work, our custom sticks are looking good. Lots more electronics work to do though. Here's a quick view of the stick (this is 1 of 3 and they're all different art):

One additional note, the page in my previous post (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jdpyle1/index.htm) also has significant information on hacking a PS2 Dual Shock with a P360. We came to a pretty definitive conclusion that it cannot be done. It's all detailed in the Playstation Interfacing section (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jdpyle1/controls_playstation.htm).

The problem that we found with the PS2-P360 is that you're trying to wire a strictly digital switch with its own voltage requirements to an analog switch with different voltage requirements. With the PS2 controller, the only digital controls are Start, Select, and the Analog button. Everything else is analog with the variant voltage operation that the P360 can't do.
The only real chance that we saw would be to change what Vcc and Ground are wired to on the P360. I tried to wire the P360 with 3.3v on Vcc and then with the common line on the ground pin, but that didn't work.
I'd be real eager to see their wiring scheme.

Hmmm... I probably don't understand enough about electronics... but aren't the button operations from a "physical" standpoint digital? i.e. when you press UP, DOWN, etc <-- it's just a metal piece connecting two points. Although the operations on the PCB itself may be analog, all the button pressing is a "digital" operation, in the sense that you either have the circuit OPEN, or CLOSED. <-- there are no variants other than that (open or closed) with the directional controls or the X, O, Square, Triangle.
My understanding of the p360 was that the +5v was there just to power the photosensors.
The actual switch closing, triggered by a photosensor, would work just like closing a circuit with a button, microswtich, etc
Anyhow, I assume you got everything working with a PS1 dualshock instead.
How do you like the p360s? <-- I still prefer them to all of the other joysticks I've used.

Sand down the contact point with some fine grit sandpaper. <-- sometimes even if you see clear copper, there may be a thin film that prevents the solder from sticking well.
Wipe it down with a cotton swab and apply some EXTRA flux. Give it another try.

The parts on ebay are x-arcade joysticks and buttons, and that is their normal price (maybe $5 less in total, but that's about it). The price first attracted us to the sticks as we've been using them in our tournies for a few months and everyone has enjoyed them.
Happ has countered since then tho, offering their supers (essentially the same product), for $6.99 ea through 3/31. Since x-arcade does not offer convex buttons, we will be going through happ this time, i don't know what kinda sticks we are getting but we need the convex buttons for marvel/ggxx =P. The only happ stick i never tried is the super so maybe we'll go with those and i can let you know.
The x-arcade buttons have the resistance of a convex button, but are concave, so it makes them kind of awkward, for SF games they are good, but marvel players have expressed concern about them (when compared to convex buttons i mean).
I believe it's possible because they want to push the retail/joystick side of the buisness, so the parts they can sell cheaper.

Okay, I've read through the entire thread now and I've cracked open my Interact Shadowblade.
I've noticed that each button and each direction on the crappy joystick has two wires connecting to it. I'm guessing that one of wires is the common ground and the other is the hot wire. I can't tell if every button direction needs a separate ground. Does anybody know? If there is a single ground, how can I find it? (I'm guessing I use a voltage multimeter but where would I place the contacts?) I'm trying to use Rotendo's Solder Free Method (page 8 if you have the default view).
I'm also wondering if there's any way to hook up a Perfect 360 using the shadowblade pcb. Anybody know? If not, I guess I'll get a 5v plug dealie from Radio Shack so I can have a separate power supply for the stick. If I'm going to do that, can anyone point me towards a site that'll help me get set up in doing so?
edit: Oops, I forgot to ask this question as well: how do I set up the start and select buttons without having to solder? I really don't want to solder (i.e. buy the equipment and materials and learn how to solder). On the shadowblade they are sorta connected to the pcb and I don't think there are any useable wires running from the start/select buttons.

Pin 5 on ANY ps1/ps2 controller will always be +3v. If you've found it on your psx1000 controller... you might as well give it a shot. I've never seen a psx1000 controller before but I'm pretty sure the 360s will hook up just fine.

Does anyone know the difference in PCB styles between the:
1. Original PSX Gray Dual Shock 1
2. Newer PS One White Dual Shock 1
We need to hack 6 PS1 controllers for our sticks and I bought the newest colored PS One pads recently. They use the same plastic ribbon that the PS2 controllers use, but with a surface mounted connector with traces to small and close to solder to.
I need a PS1 controller that has the button contacts right on the PCB and not on the separate plastic filament, and before buying more sticks to rip apart, I really want to make sure I'm buying ones we can use. So, do both of those controllers have contact directly on the PCB without the plastic filament?
TrackZ
03-14-2003, 11:31 AM
Nevermind, I'll answer my own question. :) I found the white Dual Shock 1's at Target. Just opened it up and it has a PCB that has regular contacts instead of the plastic. So, if anyone is looking to wire up new Dual Shock 1 controllers, make sure you buy the white ones and not the colored ones.
Also, to answer the question a few posts back, I would highly recommend using terminal strips. They'll make your life easier if you need to repair or replace anything later.

03-14-2003, 01:56 PM
I'm pretty sure you can hook up two pcbs to one terminal strip. For example, you have your DC and PSX stuff hooked to one side of the terminal/barrier strip and have the other side hooked to the buttons. I remember reading that if you do this you MUST NOT have both pcbs plugged into their respective console controller ports or else you're asking for trouble. I believe using barrier strips like this is how people accomplish multiple console sticks with a bunch of plugs sticking out of them (like the MAS stick).

Question: Would an all aluminum casing work well for a joystick? I doubt there would be any heating problems (since I know of some friends who have aluminium casings on their PCs). My friend had the idea of doing an all aluminum casing for my next stick and says he can help me out. Anybody try this before or have any knowledge on the feasiblity of this project?
Also, can anyone answer my earlier questions about the shadowblade grounding/P360 issues?

My cigarbob stick is psx/ss/snes, this was achieved by attaching connectors(molex) to each wiring, then attaching the female to the stick wiring, i just unplug one and plug in another. I would not recommend attaching more than one controller at a time, but i don't see where it would hurt i guess, as long as only one is plugged in.
TrackZ
03-14-2003, 03:41 PM
Definitely don't go connecting multiple consoles with power on. You wouldn't want to multiplex on the terminal block either. There's better ways. You'll want to use some sort of standard connector, like the Molex ones mentioned. You could also use DB15 or DB25's for which cables are easy to find since they're standard computer cables.
Take a look at our page for info on how we hook everything up.

I have a system that was wired 2 systems together straight up, and it works fine, but Ive tried to duplicate it, and I usually have to use the exact same controllers or something wierd will happen. Its such a pain in the ass at times, Ive been trying to learn how to do that molex version, and I am glad someone posted a good example. Nothing bad ever happened to my systems, but most of the other different controllers I have tried will do something crazy like pause the game when I push a diagonal, and Ive tested everything and It is not a mistake in soldering, because when I remove the other controller it would work fine, so I am definitely gonna jump on that example and figure that out. That is real hot, I like that.

Thanks for the help in this thread. :)
I used mostly CD_Vision's guide. Good stuff. I searched for a PSX-1000 pad, found several in my city, 9 bucks used tax inc.
I think the only mistake in his guide was the location of a start contact? I think his blue circle was actually on ground... other than that, perfect. Good guide. Thanks :)
Came to work tonight, drilled/soldered. All done the circuit part. Gonna clamp on some quick disconnects this weekend, order the parts... start making the box next week... should be done the materials next weekend (sooner if I wasn't so busy lately :( ), will just be a matter of screwing in the joystick and buttons, and having some games. :)

Because even though 2 sticks and 20 buttons for $20 is a hell of a deal it won't do me anygood of the buttons/stick suck ass.

use a 3rd party controller, much easy to solder on to.
i use interact ps 1 controllers on all my joysticks, and have never had any problems. I use it for ps1 and ps2, and i use and adpater for the DC. everything works perfectly and i only pay $5 for each new controller. regular controllers cannot be used for solder free projects, they dont have any wires you can use. You would need a pre-existing joystick to make a solder-less project(and would rip it apart for that matter).read more, it'll answer all of your basic questions.

Ookima, I would recommend going with 1st part hardware. A lot of people don't seem to care, but I personally am a stickler for using 1st party stuff. I read and heard about too many issues with 3rd party stuff.
If you or anyone plans to hack Playstation controllers. Again, if you are using a P360, you'll have to use PS1 controllers. I finished my hack on PS1 Dual Shocks this weekend. It's posted at the URL below. If you go 1st party, only try to hack the white one. Don't go for the colored (red, blue, etc) ones. They have different internal electronics that will make soldering a nightmare. The standard white ones are a piece of cake though.

Alrighty, I've discovered that each button and direction on the Interact Shadowblade Arcade Stick has a separate ground. So, how would I go about hooking up a P360 to a pcb that has separate grounds for each direction? I recall that the P360 has only one ground so how do I connect my pcb to the P360?
Also, does anyone have any info on how to wire the Shadowblade start and select buttons? (They're actual buttons on a small metal cube that's attached to the pcb.)
And I know they posted lik-sang above, but their site was down and I was wondering if the product descriptions include what company controllers do their converters supports (i.e. if I buy one of their PS2 -> GC converters will it work with my Interact controller?).

I've got a couple of questions for those who have hacked the Agetec/Sega stick, that I don't recall seeing mentioned here or on the sites I've checked.
1) Am I correct in assuming that there are 2 grounds on this stick? One for the buttons (black on the buttons/grey to the PCB) and one for the Joystick itself (black?) If that's correct, I assume I need to connect 2 grounds when I connect it to the arcade controls right?
2) I know that several people have had problems with this stick blowing out the controller port on the DC, and I know how to fix that, but have any of you who have hacked this stick had that problem after building your own? (and I don't mean by trying to install a P360 either) Is there anything on the PCB or something that could be changed to prevent having the blown controller port?
Any help would be appreciated. I've got two of these bad boys ($5 a pop) just waiting to have a better a life.

You only need to have one ground. Its really easy to find beacuse its the wire that is linked to all the buttons. Just find the grouns and link that to allt he buttons.
Also ppl only blow up there ports trying to install p360s. you won't have that problem if you are not installing a p360.
hope that helps.

U don't need to use all the grounds. Its all common. You can just link one of the grouns wires and daisy link that shit up to all your buttons and p360.
i never had a shadowblade stick so i'm not sure hat you are talking about for the start and select.

i actually got the P360's to work on my ps2 stick using the ps1 ds white controller. mad props to Trackz. but i have just one more question, what point on the controller do i use for the +5v? i'm currently using the red wire from the controller but it reads +5.5v.......i'm surprise that it still worked but i'm just concerned to whether or not it will blow out my port whenever i hook up my other P360 (twin stick). just a confirmation would help, otherwise i'll assume i'm using the correct point on the pad to draw the +5v from.

Vinnyman, you should be fine with that connection. The P360 will support a range of voltages, it doesn't have to be spot on 5v. I believe we're connected to the same wire. It's the red line (4th pin) from the controller cord.
As far as connecting 2 P360's to the same line, I wouldn't expect that to be a problem. I drive each P360 in my controller seperately, but it's a 2 player stick. I can give you a guarantee though cause I haven't tried it.

Question for the wood/Lexan pro's.
I have my MDF cut the way I want it, and I need to drill button holes.
My questions:
A) What's the normal capcom spacing for button holes? (I'll probably find out before this is answered, I'm sure it's all over the place, I'll look soon :) )
B) So I've got my wood, and I'm going to take it into get some lexan cut to a nice fit. Should I cut the wood, then the Lexan against the wood? Should I wait and drill both? I'm using a 1 1/8'' boring bit. Will that even cut through Lexan?
Which order should I cut these?
Thanks

its simple..insted or wireing the C and Z buttons wire the L and R buttons (the ones that have 3 spots to solder) and run the 3 wires to the 3 conections on the cherry switches.

Bane:
Normal spacing for buttons is 1 1/2" on center. You can take a look at the layout and dimensions we used in the Construction section of my website. Use the link on the bar below.
For your drilling steps, I would recommend either drilling together or drill the wood, fasten down the lexan, and then drill the lexan. Whatever you do, lining the stuff up and not having it move on you is the priority. You can use the wood bit you have to drill the lexan just fine.
Vinnyman:
I think you'll be fine with running 2 P360's off a single PS2 controller port.
Regarding the DC, we used standard Sega pads. We bought them brand new at EB for $3.99 each. They were super easy to hook up. I'm partial to using only first-party hardware. They work with our P360's just fine. I hope to have the DC interfacing section of the web site done in the next week or so. We're going to do some slick stuff with the project boxes to provide VMU access.

All you have to do is swap out the stick/buttons and replace it with new ones. There is a pcb inside the stick, its in a square shape.
btw. does that mean you are not buying my stick anymore?
alright i have one question since im thinking of replacing my happ ultimate 8 way with a korean stick.
are all bases the same height/width?
i dont want to have to drill new holes for this stick once i get it.
oh and if its possible, can i just put the stick itself into my ultimate base?
thanks people.

Just a note on the lexan. I live in Los Angeles, and I happened to go to two different Home Depots that were about 3 miles apart. Just between the two different stores there was a 2 dollar difference per ft.
Did some more research, and it looks like prices on Lexan vary quite sharply from place to place.

Anyone know the mounting dimensions for the Happs P360 joystick and where to drill the holes for the carriage bolts? Are they the same as other Happ joysticks (i.e. competition, ultimate)? I'm asking this because the Happ website doesn't give the measurements of where to drill the holes, and I am currently waiting on my P360 joystick in the mail. Thanks in advance.

since it your first time putting in the stick..i would suggest you wait for the stick to come in.align the stick base properly and mark your drill holes. doing otherwise may lead to excess holes in your wood, misalignment, etc.

For the project it doesn't really matter.
Both the ulitmate and competition have the same holes for carriage bolts.
The difference is when you playw ith them. To me there really isnt much of a difference but to some ppl the ulimate feels cheaper.
The ulimate stick is used in most arcades.
hope that helps

I used to own a suh-weet 2P X-arcade stick for my PC/PS2. It was modded big time with all Happ Comp. buttons and stick. It had light up buttons and a new template covered in lexan. To save space, I sold it and bought an X-arcade 1P unit for my Xbox/PS2/PC. I upgraded all the goodies to Happ, but for some reason I friggin hate it. I hate the design and do not feel like modding it further.
I do not understand why, but I cannot do anything properly with this new stick on my Xbox. Moves like fireballs NEVER seem to be reliable and do not get me started on Supers or combos. I have read that there is a known latency problem with the Xbox X-Arc adapter. I am hoping that is it, but I have a serious interest in a MAS Systems instead with a P360.
If you own a MAS or have used a P360 please tell me what you think about it. It just seems that it would be more "accurate" without having switches and would more resemble the digital reliablity. (optical sensors)

yeah, you can replace the joystick in the X-arcade with a competition. you can also replace the buttons, and since they used quick disconnects it's fairly easy to do. It does get to be a little difficult to get your fingers between some of the buttons to loosen or tighten them, but it's not too bad. Also their wiring is really messy (at least in mine) so I would suggest only removing one thing at a time and keeping the switches attached to the wires until you're ready to replace them (if you decide to swap switches too), also I marked the 4 switches for the joystick with a pencil so I could remember where they should be on the new stick.
On another note... the only downside to getting my custom stick done right now is that there is NO PLACE in my town that carries .187 disconnects for .22 guage wire. they carry the .270 for .22's and .187 for .16 but not what I need. Hell, I spent one whole day going to Lowe's, Home Depot, Radio Shack, etc.

the only controllers that will work with a P360's is the PS1 DualShock SONY BRAND (white).....and supposely, the psx1000<-----never seen these before.....iirc, the mad catz psx DF isn't compatible with P360's cuz i tried that already....NEVER use any PS2 controllers for P360's.
no in regards on hacking it, yes, it's exactly same...the only difference is finding the +5v for the P360 itself. assuming that you will use the PS1 DS, simply solder the red wire from the P360 to the soldering point on the PCB pad where the red wire from the PS1 DS meets (match the red wire from the P360's to the red wire from the controller)....here's the link.

also about lexan how thick a pice should we get?? cause when i went to home depot they were pretty thick but i dont remember the exact measurement
It depends on your taste. Remember, the overlay on the mASS sticks is just lamination, and even that holds up (for a while at least). I go with as thin as possible. Go to an arcade and check out the thickness on the sheets there and pick one that you like. Then measure the depth/thickness.

The psx1000 does work:D
Use the solder point on the right side right next to the block glob thing that protects the cpu.
Its only a 3.3v but it works. i think any controller can power a p360. all you need is a 3.3v or more. if you have a psx1000 and need a pic i will take one and post it.

The quick disconnect is what is attaching the wire to the switch. It's just crimped on the end of the wire and slides onto the contact of the switch allowing easy removal and requiring no solder.

no, not all controllers will work....all PS2 controllers are analog, touch sensitive. it's a hassle to explain, but the P360's hate touch sensitive.......everytime you connect the +5v wire, it activates everything.....i understand why this happens but i don't feel like explaining it. :wasted:

I've made some updates to our controller construction site. In addition to various corrections, I've updated some photos, added an email link if anyone has questions, and also have data for Dreamcast controller interfacing. I need a few more pictures still, but the content is there.
In the next week or so, I plan to do the following:
- Get some more photos in the DC and PS interface sections.
- Start on Sega Saturn hacking information.
- Add detailed information on how we added artwork to the interface boxes (see the PS section for an example).
In the next month, I'll be:
- Adding Xbox controller hacking info.
- Adding a cost section.
If anyone has some feedback or questions they'd like to see answered, please send me an email and I'll get it added to the site.
Take a look:

Is there anyway to do a solderless X-Box stick. I can barely operate a goddamn electric toothbrush without injuring myself, and If I had to solder someone would lose an eye. I read something about using Quick Disconnect doodads with a Reflex, but the site wasn't entirely clear on how that is accomplished. So anyone know anything about this, I really don't want to spend 6 hours in the emergency room due to a soldering mishap

That's funny. :D Unfortunately though, I doubt it, unless you would look to using arcade sticks and you get lucky with how they're designed. Pretty much any gamepad is going to require soldering.

Alright, if this no soldering shit is a no go for a custom X-Box stick, than I guess I will just shell out the money for an X-Arcade and replace the stick and buttons.

I'm planning on making an X box stick, i plan on taking apart an X box controler, from what i am reading it's best to use 3rd party (i'm new to this by the way), and using an old Dreamcast 2 player arcade joystick, the parts on that are arcade parts?
any suggestions?
either that or i'm gona start form scratch and make my own box and everything..
I don't know where to start..

Those of you interested in the X-arcade and it's support for many consoles with the switched out competition buttons and stick might do well to take a look at this auction:

Very nice work sevenD_eight, love the artwork design!
Heihachi: I do belive that the xarcade uses quick disconnects aka .187 female. I don't have one, but I do know for a fact that they do not solder their wires onto the switches like MAS does. Anyone that owns an X and have opened theirs up, confirm this if you like, thanks.

no problem buddy......that's what the thread is for afterall.
Hey guys I’ve got a problem with my SAV. For about 3 months now it only loads up or works about ½ the time. Ill plug it in and get no response, then restart the DC or PS2 and it might start to work. Also more recently it has started to go out on me in the middle of play. Given the money I spent on the stick I would really like any ideas on how to fix it. I’ve never worked on a stick but I did check the wiring and blew out any dust (of which there wasn’t really any). Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Question about third party controllers...
I have read in old Gamepro magazines and a few sources on the internet that third party controllers aren't the healthiest for your console. Like it may reprogram your controller ports to make the controller ports only use those controllers.
One more question...
How exactly do you hook up TWO controllers to one set of buttons and sticks? Like a DC controller and PSX controller to one set of sticks and buttons. Thanks

RoTeNdO: one of the people who i played with wants to replace his x-arcade stick with comp. it should be easy to replace with quick disconnects. thanks
I am curious about the X-arcade delay with using adaptors and wonder if my PS2 to DC adaptor has any delay so what I did is test it. I found out that my regular DC pad is faster than my PS2 MAS stick with adaptor.
I test it with cvs2 practice mode, what I did is pick 2 ryu’s and I set the 2p side to human with a regular DC pad and 1p as a PS2 MAS stick with an adaptor. Then I try to face the two ryu’s as close as possible and press jab at the same time on both 1p & 2p(if there is no delay both ryu’s should hit each other at the same time). The dc pad end up always hitting the other ryu, a regular DC pad is way faster than PS MAS stick with an Adaptor. Then I try using PS2 pad with an adaptor and DC pad, its not as bad as the PS2 MAS stick with an adaptor. I wonder if the MAS pcb cause some delay or the micro switch itself cause some delays.
In incuriosity I tested a PS2 MAS stick with a PS2 pad and the results are about the same but the PS2 pad is slightly faster than a regular PS2 MAS stick. to be honest I can't really tell on this one

1. Smoking to much pot makes you paranoid.
2. Either hardwire them both to the buttons, in which case you have to be very careful. Do not have the stick plugged into both systems at the same time. Or, you can wire arcade controlls into some sort of harness that disconnects, such as molex, dsubs, barrier strips, etc, then connect the pcbs to the other side of the harness, and connect whichever one you want to use.

Hard to explain, but I will give a rough idea. You end up providing two or more active grounds and lots of weird stuff starts happening. Then you end up with the headaches that have plagued random mai.

What do you mean test for points? I just find the ground and just follow the wires around the pad to figure out which buttons are which?

im working with a ps2 mad catz......and ive gotten 2 ppl to try and help my but to no luck, im still trying to find them. it all looks simple. there my ground, its soldered already, then theres 4 black strips on each side, and some small circle solid silver points. now i placed my ground wire thats soldered in, to a point on the pad where the button/direction point is suppose to be and nothing happens.......

quick question about making an arcade stick for a PS2 console. The analog sticks. Do I just leave those alone or am I supposed to hook something up to them? Normally when I play MvC2 on my PS2 I just use the Dpad and don't even touch the left analog.
