View Full Version : Does using Sim mess up your other characters?

I'm a noob player who switched to Sim for like one week. Before that I was maining Chun and Ryu.
I like the style of Sim a lot, it helped me a lot in dealing with some tough matchups like Blanka and Sagat. Also it boosted my GP from 1k to nearly 4k...
I'm not gonna list how great Sim's toolset have been working.
But yesterday I got an player match invitation and I played with my old prefered characters (ryu and rufus). I made mistakes all the time like whiff standing fierce, missing link combos, whiff fadcs... and forgot all about DP and doing reverse DP everytime I got knocked down...
I know probably I need to spend more time in training mode to keep my other characters working. But I don't think I want to spend time other than honing my skill for Sim cause he's now my favourite and this character is so deep and fun to use. Also there're some stuff I cannot make use consistently like flame XX super.
I know it's not a serious problem. But I really want to know if you guys ever have this problem. And what's your opinion about that?

might wanna change the title of the thread, cursing in the titles is pretty much a no-no here.

Yeah...that happens to me. I first started playing Guile, then Ryu, then mained Sim. Every now and then I will play Ryu and I find myself jumping back sometimes if my opponent gets too close. :)

For me, I used to play Sagat before I switched to Dhalsim. I cannot for the life of me play any other character now

I try to Yoga Tower over projectiles with other characters, and if I am a certain distance from the other character I constantly have to remind myself NOT to jump back fierce. Like the dude above said, I cannot seriously play with any other character now.

I'll chime in... Playing Dhalsim really messes with my Cammy and C.Viper game! But then playing Viper makes me wanna High Jump with everyone else...
Where I find the most issue is that noone else can control the space like Sim. I love how hard he is to punish. His moves are fairly safe... and then you play someone like Cammy, and you get Air thrown out of spin knuckles, you get beat at cannon drills, and cannon spike's range for hitting seems so much crappier than it used to off the weak kick variety... meh.
-ahem-
So yeah, Sim gives me confidence in my motions, my movements, and in the safety in what I'm doing, and most other characters seem SOOO punishable in comparision. Sometimes it's like playing 2 different games... -_-;

I main Sim, and I often go to other characters just to get variety.
When I go back to Sim...he feels...reaaaall slow... =(

That's right, Sim is incredibly safe and solid in zoning, and when using other characters I will blame them for missing a lot of punishment and losing to fireballs traps lol.
Anyway I will not touch other characters until my Sim is decent enough.

for me it's the other way around. after playing sagat/ken/ryu and going back to sim, i always forget that sim can't uppercut as an anti-air...

Dhalsim has b+mp as an uppercut anti-air, but I'm pretty sure that's not what you mean.

No, not really, you just have to be mindful to avoid this problem.
If you make sure that you have a certain playstyle for Sim, and whatever other characters you use, remember to be in that state of mind while playing them. If you can't remember to do that, then it will cause problems when switchng characters, because you aren't also switching your mentality.

using dhalsim only mess up my necro use in 3s. I constantly suddenly think that hp is a good poke and that I can throw fireballs with him.

I just started learning Dhalsim last night seriously, and my main is Ryu. By the end of the night, I switched back and felt like I was just plain more patient no matter what character I used. Granted, I needed a match to get back into the groove with Ryu, but after that it was smooth sailing.

I'm starting to use Cammy and going from using someone with some of the best AA normals in the game to someone with the worst is quite a wake up call.
