But I have yet to lose to one as rufus, and I just started playing as him. My other character is sagat, who's a big dude and wake up splashes were a problem. I just got accustomed to the match by playing some fuerte's from china town fair. Now I can't be stopped.
basically, fuerte is a random ass character. So be random back....... but calculated randomness. at the start of the round just jump around like an asshole, do a shit load of nonsense dive kicks, confuse him. Now... when you do this, don't do it expecting to hit him, do it expecting him to make the first move. The more time you spend on the ground the more time he has to trip you, throw you, or get you on the floor for his wake up splash game.
learn to judge which splashes are cross ups, block appropriately, also, if you mash UP as in jump up, you take wayyy less damage from a splash - and he can't even hit you with his splash grab. If he hits you with the splash you get knocked to the other side of the screen if you're jumping. You can also focus attack his splashes, but it's not worth it as if he does the splash grab you're caught.
PLAY THE GAME TIMER!!!!!!!!!!!!
anticipate him to do the wall jump and punish his ass.
that's about all you need really. JUST DONT GET KNOCKED DOWN.
P.S. Anyone else pissed off at how the original arcade cast has depth, and the new guys they added are all gimmicks?

Good stuff here. LP SS beats out a lot of stuff his stuff and causes him to whiff slides and I loves it to death.
You mean console chars? Or the 4 they added into OG SF4? I.E. Fuerte, Viper, Abel, Rufus.
I think the 4 have a ton of depth. Each needs to be changed a little but overall are pretty good at the moment.
Also for the love of god, there is a match up thread. We only make new single char match up threads IF you have a lot to contribute in your first post. No BS How do I beat xx.
EDIT: I think I was kind of harsh but this is the second one you made. I appreciate that you are trying to learn, but if you read the match up threads/post there, we will be more willing to help imo. I just like to see this forum less cluttered.

LP.SS doesn't beat his flying throw, any air throw beats snake strike.
You can tell which splash hes going to do by how far he is to you. If hes right next to you it will be a cross up, one character space away he will land in front of you.

Focus attack shuts him down hard. If he goes for the sweep or the press, you retaliate with huge damage. I have shut down every single Fuerte I've come across this way.
Seriously you beat two put of a possible 3 mixups with a Focus. It's all you need.
Also, it is hilarious when the the Focus connects, because it literally like puts a complete hault the match. Dude runs around like a maniac and then you land the focus, he crumples you land huge damage IDK how to describe it, it's very amusing to me the way the entire match just comes to a hault for that amount of time..
Baiting Fuerte into doing that air throw is a good thing. The Dive Kick pendulum swings both ways. The air throw is his main answer to the dive kick, but it's kind of a high risk low reward answer. If Fuerte doesn't do it, he doesn't have enough life to survive even the smallest amount of fat man's pressure. But if Fuerte misses an air throw within range, you can nail him for a huge chunk of life with any number of options, and as a bonus Fuerte gets a reset put into his crackhead random game.
The match has big elements of guessing game in it, but Rufus has a whole bunch of rewards, whereas Fuerte's only real hope is to try to keep you in a guessing loop.

Elf's wakeup game is kind of a pain in the you know what.
a few things that I've learned.
Elfs. Wake up games. (most of this works with every char.)
backdashing on wakeup is safe against his tortilla throw (forgive me I'm not sure exactly what the name is)
backdashing is also safe against tostata press (as long as its not crossing up)
you can usually tell when hes going to cross up with the press so make sure to be watching for that and blocking accordingly.
if all else fails just EX messiah kick on wake up and chances are you are either going to stuff a press or at least get back on your feet to saftey.
-also what parry said
when elf is on the ground
dont abuse dive kicks because they can be punished with his command air throw (not sure of name again sorry) again you're going to have to read the opponent to get a feel for when you'll be able to dive kick. I usually mix it up between dive kicking and mk rolls on elf's wakeup.
-also what nb2 said (which was probably more helpful than my advice)
some general stuff
what I always do against elf is try to play his game right back to him. doing random dive kicks jumping around throwing random normals ect. jumping back and throwing roundhouses seems to be pretty safe in this matchup too (correct me if I'm wrong)
...I hope this was helpful

I can't think of a single real Fuerte that uses the running sweep outside of combos + Punishment. If you just mindlessly FA, he can use either running throw to catch you (And if you backdash, he can still punish you for it through prediction + proper spacing). His defense game is horrible, though, so once you knock him down, keep up the pressure, since the extent of his anti-oki is ultra, and EX Dash/DP K to gtfo of trouble, and they can both be punished.

Good point Dullyanna.
Rather than mindlessly backdashing and mindlessly focusing you should be reading your opponents play style and trying to predict what mixup he's going to use next.
(I was under the assumption if you're reading these forums you're not mindlessly doing anything in this game.)
Also... if I give any information that is incorrect I encourage being called out on it. I really try not to post unless I feel I actually have somewhat of an idea of what I'm talking about.
Thanks Dullyanna!

with keeping pressure make sure its spaced pressure. Fuerte can EX run, absorb an attack and splash/grab your face. So even though he's down, EX run is a good gtfo move. So i would attack relentlessly when he has no meter but if he does remember he can punish a whiff with Ultra from almost half screen. So dont get too close when he has meter or he'll just put you back on the ground.

I think you can shut down a lot of Fuerte's wakeup options with a good meaty GT/EX GT. Armor break on Focus/EX dash, beats everything Fuerte has I think, Fuerte whiffs Guacamole legs, and safe on block.
Only thing you need to watch is Ultra, but even that can miss if your tornado is still moving forward (but it's rare this occurs, so don't try it).
Don't quote me on it though, I don't play too many Fuertes.

I'm talking about how to treat a fuerte who you scored a knock down on, if you dive kick, c.lp or even c.hp Fuerte can absorb the hit. Of course you can tornado if you see it coming but he can splash/grab you. doing GT is a good way to get knocked on the ground by Fuerte (fuerte is my second character). if you get knocked down best thing is to jump straight up if you think he's gonna grab, if you think he will splash (most likely) Focus dash towards Fuerte because when you splash you try to cross up your opponent so if you focus and dash towards him you can create a little space as he lands behind you.

Yeah, that's what I meant, sorry to not clarify that, I personally use "wakeup game" in reference to what a character can do after he's been knocked down, but I think it's the other way around according to the community.
Usually when I get knocked down I just backdash, heh. Or LP/EX Snake Strike if the Fuerte's hella obvious about it.

From my own experiences with a (decent) fuerte, the tactics i was dealt with in the couple bouts ive had playing rufus is that belly splash loop he has on my wake up but like someone already said, Focus Attack shuts that and mostly almost everything he does down. Just dont use it TOO much, he WILL grab you...
Or if hes mixing up his game with other moves (such as his run into slide sweep) EX messiah kick always is reliable...
