Okay I am 29 years old, but in less than 2 months I will hit the big 3-0. I must admit, turning 30 my value system has changed. 10 years ago, when I entered my 20s, I just wanted to live comfortably. Now I want to be rich. 10 years ago, I just wanted a long term girlfriend, now I want a wife.
I look so forward to turning 30. A lot of people enter their 30s kicking and screaming. But for me, I look at successful people and they are most successful in their 30s, not 20s. People start to really reach their prime around 35. I look at turning 30 as the steps to becoming a more refined person.
To anyone close to 30, how do you feel about turning 30 now? do you look forward to it, or do you feel you are getting old?

31. No big deal really. I just don't feel like doing some of the things I did in my 20's.

I turn 31 this year. The leading up to turning 30 was more of a deal for me than actually turning 30. I was so stressed because I just kept thinking "I'm turning 30 and I haven't done [insert actvity here] yet" - then I realized I have way too much life to live to worry about what life I haven't lived yet...

People reach their productivity prime at 28-32. A man reaches physical prime in his early 20s. A lot of health problems develop in the 30s as well as balding, weight gain, etc.
If you haven't achieved anything significant yet, don't count on yourself falling ass first into money anytime soon. Just be glad an 18 year old hasn't stolen your job.. yet.

I am going to be 30 next month, I'm sure it will be just another number. I guess I am feeling a little old, but thats only because all the guys at work make fun of my turning 30.

I wont be 30 until 2011.. kinda lookin forward to it, kinda not. I haven't done so great of a job of using my 20's to set myself up for that successful 30's thing so.. we'll see how that works out. I imagine it'll be a lot like my 20s but with more health problems.

I just turned thirty. Basically I just pay more attention to the fact that my body isn't as resilient as it used to be. I have to cut down on skateboarding. Sometimes it's hard to walk early in the mornings.

Turning 31 this year. It was not that big a deal. I have no interest on acting like I did when I was in my early 20's. In matter of fact I really did not enjoy my 20's that much. School, trying to find myself, career choices, and all that stuff. My 30's is when everything is going to settle down, and that is the way I like it.

Hard to walk because of skateboarding and not age right?

I'll be 26 soon and for most of my entire life I wanted to be rich. A few years ago I started to to weightlift, stretch, and eat healthy very seriously. It is a lifestyle that I will continue to live until I'm dead. Now, material wealth seems rather secondary to the wealth that a healthy body and mind can provide. Seriously what's the point of being rich when your old, fat, and unhealthy.
The point I'm trying to make is that 30 is still very young, a prime in fact. Don't let the routines of society jeopardize your being just so you can have the big house and the big car.
I had enough toys when I was a child, time to be an adult.

I turned 30 in January. Truth be told, the closer your birthday is the more 'worried' and freaked out you get. Once you turn 30, you'll wake up the next morning and be like "... whats the big fuckin deal? why did I get all strung out?" and go about your business.

I won't be there for another few years, but honestly I've been scared of getting old for the longest.
At this point, its not so much an issue. They say 30 is the new 20, but... whatever.
My thing was losing touch with all the things I grew up with, but in reality they're being phased out by shit I don't care about. In hindsight its what I see with seniors all the time... and that's where the fear comes in. I don't want to forget things from my childhood, but I don't want to be totally clueless about the present either.
I guess I won't have to worry about this until maybe my 40s anyway.

When I turned 27 I'm like damn I'm almost 30. Although I have been married w/kid since I was 19 and now I have my 3rd one on the way. Which puts me at 45 when he is out of the house, so I figure by then I will trade down and start banging 20 somethings again!!!!

I just turned 30 this June. It was a blast, rented out a condo in Downtown Chicago and partied for a week during the taste of Chicago. I hit up a lot of blues bars and regular bars, no smoking indoors kinda sucked we can still do that in bars in FL. I pretty much tried to emulate the whole Dave Attell Insomniac for a whole week. It was fun!! I then turned around like a week later and went to Evo for 4 1/2 days. So turning 30 fuckin rocked!!

wow, that's an awesome 30th birthday. Wish I could do something that big for my 30th. I spent my younger years depressed and confused. I feel much more light hearted, and confident as I get older. Sometimes it's reverse for a lot of people. For me, earlier years were about gaining understanding. Now, I think I understand, and now it's time to have fun and enjoy life. That is why I'm so happy to be saying good-bye to my 20s

I could careless about 30, its not important in the scheme of things.

I think what makes us feel old, is the fact kids are becoming successful at earlier ages.
You've got entertainers, actors, businessmen and various celebs who are just 18-22, and it makes you stand back and think... "I'm almost/over 30 and still trying. WTF happened?"

Yeah, we do have people who are successful at that age. The problem is they don't have the maturity to stay successful. I had my first good job at 21 years old, but that doesn't mean I stayed successful. where I worked there was only 1 other guy in his 20s and he was 28. Most of the people I worked with were like over 35 to 50 something.
As long as you're smart enough you can succeed. However book knowledge and maturity are definitely different. I'm just as smart now as I was then (even more so IMO), but now I have the wisdom and maturity to know what to do should I repeat success. People really don't take 20 something year old seriously, and with good reason.
it's the same ole' same ole' for me. :-/

Like partying, bars, clubs, etc. My priorities are focused again. Strangely enough my priorities were in tact right after HS then all through my 20's I did all that previous shit and got pretty careless. Near the end around 29 I decided that's all over. Even a little back before then in my mid 20's I was well past wanting to go to clubs anymore. I basically finally got all of that stuff out of my system.
Bleh, reading this thread makes me feel old. :/

I turn 30 in 1 year and 3 months. I'll tell you what makes you really feel old: having kids. I was looking at a picture of my son when he couldn't even crawl and was tiny in my arms...and now he's almost a toddler running around like hell and starting to talk. Just makes you think "where the fuck did time go?"

Just turned 31 this year.
Still partying, banging whatever moves, playing video games and enjoying whatever is out there to enjoy.
The cool thing is that I am working now, so I have much more money to do cool stuff than I used to in my 20s!
(I am trying to work out more though, and pay attention to the shit I eat... fuck that beer-belly! Gym and sport clubs are good to meet some MILF borred by their marriage life anyway.)
Meh... I'll marry when I am 35... or 40... (or not, who knows!)
Fuck age! just live and see what happens.
I'm turning 36 this year, and ever since hitting 35 I've been experiencing this kinda' sad anxiety like life is somehow going to end @ 40. Luckily, everyone I meet still tells me I look like I'm in my mid-20's so hopefully by 40 I'll look like I'm only 30.
But it sucks that I let my anxiety take such a hold of me. I actually get depressed when I really start to think about it, and I'm not the type of person who gets depressed about anything really. I'm one of those people that constantly has a rainbow flying out of their ass. I'm usually so upbeat and positive, but lately I've kinda' reversed course and I'm not happy about it.
And then there's the case of my starting-to-recede hairline. My older brother started going bald @ 17... too bad for him he got my dad's hair and I got my mom's lions mane. So now I've noticed a some thinning going on in the front and that's only exasperated my depression. I was thinking of going w/some Rogain but I heard you have to keep taking it, and if you stop it quickly falls out again. Might just shave it all off when it get's too thin.
Fucking hate getting old, but I'm still living life like I'm much, much younger. At least I'm happy in pretty every other aspect of life.

What gets me is 30somethings are pretty much the last generation that grew up playing SF2 when it came out in arcades. That era is ancient history like Motown and 8-tracks.
I turned 29 last month, one more year to go. No kids, no debt. I look at pics of me at 21 and I look exactly the same (except I looked way more optimistic then, because I didn't get a taste of the 'real world' yet). Hell, I even weigh the same that I did 10 years ago, I don't know how I pulled that off. Anyway I can enter the next 10 years with pretty much a clean slate.

36? Whoa!!! My sister is 41 and you're right along with her. You sir are an old cat. I started graying around 18, but dye and 1 inch clippers remedied that. By the time we're in our 50's there should be a cure for gray hair so I'm not worried. Implants take care of balding so I'm not worried about that either. I never tried Rogaine even though I have considered it.
When my hair grows out and I don't color it or anything, I look like a handsome kid with gray hair. When I shave it down or color it, I look like an Adonis. My face is seriously too lovely. I will never need any cosmetic surgery in terms of face and never will consider. Check my profile pics which I'm sure you've seen.

You don't have to shave? little girl. Well...not really. At 23 I was still in the Army and could get away w/o shaving because my 5'oclock shadow grew REALLY slow back then. Now it grows like weeds.

sigh, yeah I want to give up going to tournaments, because I think I'm too old. Everytime I go to tournaments, I see all of these young kids wit these big ass Mas and Hori sticks, and I walk up with a PS3 pad. It's nice when Larry ShinBlanka is there, because at least he's older than me, though we aren't exactly friends. But it's nice to not be the oldest dude at a tournament.
Then I tell people "get the fuck out of here with those Japanese sticks, I play American". They then proceed to to tell me that arcades now have Jap sticks. I would tell them back in the 90s when I went to arcade they were all American. And then it strikes me, these guys don't remember the old arcade days. So I just stop.
I love cheering for Choi, Watson, and Valle for tournaments, totally based on the fact that they're over 30. I think I'm going to call it a day after I go to Evo next year, there is no place in SF for an old man like me. Plus I'm more concerned about my bank account, my IRA, and investments than I am about wrecking shit in a tournament. When you turn 30 you gotta give up games. These little 20-22 year old just sit up in an apartment and train in SF all day. I would find that shit boring. But I think that's me getting old.

Meh, I may be one of those snot nosed 20 year olds, but I'm all about getting ahead, being a lone wolf most of my life, I don't give a damn about those parties others have, or all of this other crap. I want to do whatever's necessary to get where I want to be as fast as possible, which has lead people to call me way too serious or uptight a lot of times. :xeye:
But no problem on the age thing dude, I don't think a person needs to give up things they enjoy just because they reach a certain age. As long as you balance the responsibilities that come up in life with the things you enjoy, then who's to tell you when to stop? You only get one life so you should do the things you like as long as you can, all the while making sure you have your important stuff straight.

You know, I see it as a heavenly gift and a social curse. In a very literal sense of the statement. I get many comments but I also get people who say I look SOOoooo young!!! It gets kinda old having to get "no it's OK" when I pull out my ID before asked and from someone else get curtly asked before I can set things like beer down and reach for my ID in one motion. Halfway through the motion I get the "lemme see some ID!!" like the cashier is a cop and I better represent. Then when I show I get the OMG how do you stay so young? In my head I'm thinking genes, water...IDK motherfucker. I usually pull off my hat and joke about my gray hair.
EDIT: Being 5'6-7 doesn't help either.

I'm 28 and lost my job of 6 years back in February so right now I'm starting all over and working on going back to school for a new career. Just sucks cause I'll be losing the nice apartment I'm in right now and will be struggling to keep up payments on my car. I plan on finding part time work testing games or something similar while in school. Setting a new goal to be back on my feet with the job that I want by the time I'm 35. I think if this recession me while I was in my 30s, I'd probably be less motivated to remain positive in a situation like this.

Bewd, I love fighting games and SF. But I'll never be a dominant force in SF. Plus tournaments are so dramatic. Any that is cool when you're older, but at my age I don't give a shit.
I mean the prize isn't worth it for me. A few hundred dollars at a tournament, when I can make the same money in a day at my regular job. Plus I'm more concerned with getting a woman to cook for me or something of that nature. I mean drama is going to happen, but the only drama I want to go through is for money or pussy. I lack the passion for gaming, because it's not worth my time. But I'll do it up until next Evo, and hang up my joystick for good.
Not sure how people like ShinBlanka or Choi, or Watson do it at age 30+. No wonder why there's a huge dropoff for people my age.

ah welcome to the club bro. I lost my job last year, and I was making some mega bucks. I am able to get little contracts here and there, but nothing comparable to what I was making. I'm thinking about starting my own business, the only problem is that I don't know how to sale a god damn thing. And I don't know what the business would be.
In either case, I hope to marry a well to do sales woman who will promote and come up with ideas for me, and I just take all of the credit. I defiinitely hope to be there by 35. I wonder if Amy Holmes or Lisa Bonet are single.

it's not like its "oh, im too old now, I shouldnt be *going to tournaments* *playing games* *watching cartoons* *etc*" rather it's "oh shit, i gotta spend my time doing this, this, this, this, and this to get the bread coming in, then I gotta carve out time for the gf, then theres this other obligation..."
older should mean you have more on your plate that you have to deal with before you get to games

@Will: Lol do you know how many old men would kill for that? hahahhaha
Many, I know. I get random questions, when I start talking, about skincare and weight like I'm some expert. Skincare, yea I guess I'm a psuedo expert w/o a Dermatology degree. Which is a "secret" passion of mine I wished I pursued and probably would've been a mega rich $$$$$ guru at, but my youthful genetics come from both sides and my weight/build from the men on my mom's side. Unfortunately the gray hair and <mom's maiden name> "curse" w/head hair comes from the men on her side too. You just don't know how many people think I'm a kid until I start talking. When my mouth is shut I'm a mystery in terms of whether this cat is such and such in terms of adulthood. It seriously comes out w/my swagger. When I start talking and even mention 5 yrs. military service you can see people's mental calculator working trying to add up an average for my age from 18 on up.
Gee, thanks. :p
Sorry man. I thought I was an old guy on here.
I know your pain, Gotti. I used to get stared at, phone numbers given to me, or even straight up hit on by the gays in Pasadena when I lived there. I'm not some pretty boy either, but it was so weird when it happened.
And no homo.
I never got numbers, thank goodness, but I got the looks like I was a possible "catcher". I'm pretty sure you know how I handled that. *covering all orificies w/a manly stare like I was a killer* NEVER haha bitches...and stop even thinking about it. Again my "straight swagger" manly strut told otherwise.

it's not like its "oh, im too old now, I shouldnt be *going to tournaments* *playing games* *watching cartoons* *etc*" rather it's "oh shit, i gotta spend my time doing this, this, this, this, and this to get the bread coming in, then I gotta carve out time for the gf, then theres this other obligation..."
older should mean you have more on your plate that you have to deal with before you get to games
Oh I plan on beating Gradius 3 after Evo next year. Something I've been trying to do since 1991
Bewd, I love fighting games and SF.
Ahhh I see what you mean, between you and P.Gorath's posts, and I maintain that as long as you're happy with it and get your responsibilities taken care of, do it, and if it's not doing it for you, drop it.
EDIT: I just know a lot of older people who stopped doing things they liked just BECAUSE the opinion was that they're "too old for that", not because it was conflicting with their priorities or responsibilities, that's what I'm talking about avoiding.

I'm 32....but I still appear to be in my mid 20's, and I feel like I'm about 20 years old, so the age doesn't bother me too much.
But the thing that makes you realize that time is really flying by is, like a previous forum member just said, kids. Well, kids, and my career.
I've been in the Air Force for 10 years now. Time between deployments is getting shorter all the time, and I'm gone just about every year and a 1/2. But the time flies by so quickly in this job, it's RIDICULOUS. It FEELS like I've been here for maybe 2-3 years tops, but 10 years? CRAZY.
I've recently had good turnaround in my life, and I've gotten my priorities straight once again. Just family, family family and games when I have some free time. I want to be sure that my daughter (and child on the way) has a healthy childhood and grows up well-adjusted to life.

I am mad that at 19 I was damn good at fighters and.. I don't know what the fuck happened, I didn't improve at all in my 20s. I just missed every opportunity to be expert level, out of total circumstance. For instance, I didn't like Tekken and Guilty Gear, but I learned Soul Calibur. Fast forward to today and GG-type games and Tekken have a huge competitive following, SC doesn't. And Street Fighter was in a weird situation all this decade. Now I see fighters have kind of a reawakening, but in my 30s I won't have time to take the game seriously any more.

HAHAHA... a black man named Brian? Yeah right. Naw, I'm whiter than white (carded for whiteout? WTF? I practically bleed that shit.) but I've been known to fornicate with a particular woman amongst the black community.
Thanks for the support, bro. I needs me a shoulder to cry on but the missus thinks I'm crazy!!
Lol.
You're old enough to be of a generation in which such a naming wasn't completely unheard of. :wgrin:
Say what you will about getting carded for alcohol (21) and whatnot.
I swear at god, man - getting carded for Whiteout (17)... SO GOOD.

I'm still about 7 months away from being 30.... And luckily for me, I still don't look my age (people still think I'm younger, thank goodness). Maybe it has something to do with me not having baggy eyes or whatever.... Anyways, I don't feel any different or less enthusiastic than I've ever been, so I guess age isn't getting to me....
What DOES strike a nerve with me is those damn gray hairs. Shit, STOP POPPING UP! It brings my piss to a boil more often than not. The moment I see one rear it's ugly shade in my beautiful hair, I just pluck that bastard out. BAM! The problem is that I apparently also have them on the back of my head, and I can't get to those, so I feel screwed regardless.

Fuck a lot. Like I do. And don't fuck for a nut, fuck for sport. I'm also going to tell you, ugly women are bad in bed. Pretty women are bad in bed. It's the plane jane average chicks who will totally rock your world.
It's important because you know exactly what you want at 30. I know you are saying that life doesn't revolve around sex. That's true, it also revolve around money. So be concerned with fucking and making money. Those are the only two things important for men. Well, God too, if you're into that kinda of stuff. But yeah, you need to fuck and make money. By the time you're 30 you'll learn how to get consistent money, and consistent pussy.

I will be 30 in December, to say I have changed drastically is a understatement. When I joined srk I was a 21 yo with a hot head and quick trigger temper. I flamed the fuck out of everything. Now I just do not care about that shit and I am in charge of people at work so I actually have to work on relations alot more.

Good shit!
Didn't know there were so many thirtysomethings here (32 myself).
Beard starting showing specks of grey at 23. Those were my serious facial hair rocking days. To much grey would show now, so I just sport a mustache and a soul patch:wgrin:

Im turning 31 next month, man no wonder i like SRK so much, all the cool peeps are pretty much my age group & can relate.
As for turning 30, its just a number. I always thought when i was kid a 30 year old was freaken old.
Anyway my 20's i think accomplish a lot.
Finish school
Married an asian wife
Became a father
30's not really sure what to expect. Im guessing bills & raising 2 daughters will be my highlight. These will probably be the best family time too before the kids become teenagers. So probably lots of family vacations which seem like fun.
I cant image how 40 will be like...

I'm 23 but i look over 30 does that count?
I'll be 30 next year, and I admit, I'm not looking forward to it. It's not that I feel I squandered my 20's, but now I have to start thinking about settling down and raising a family, which I want to do, but not yet. Maybe 6-8 years down the road, but not now.
Also, I'm starting feel my age. My knees are starting to get sore when I work out and they've even made a popping sound a few times. It hasn't gotten to the point where I'm in pain, but it's only a matter of time. It's also taking longer to heal from minor injuries too. I'm really going to have to take a serious look at swimming. I don't think my body can take high-impact exersize for much longer.
But despite all this I'm actually in the best shape of my life.
Thankfully, like Will Gotti, I look young for my age. Most people think I'm in my low to mid 20's. I still get asked for ID whenever I get liquor, and I still get hit on by the college girls. :smokin: And unlike Will Gotti, I'm not short. But, like Shin-Mech-Brian, I get hit on by gay men.
I think I'm just going to tell people that I'm 25 as long as I can get away with it. Besides, I took that real age test and it says I'm 24, so I don't feel bad about it.
Anyway my 20's i think accomplish a lot.
Married an asian wife
That's an accomplishment?
EDIT: Also, if you married an asian wife, who the fuck was she married to when you married her? You know that's bigamy right?

That's actually what I hope to accomplish. I just turned 20 last month so school is top priority for now. But let me ask you something, did you meet your future wife while in school? D:

only problem with being 30 is when you are at a tournament, or a gathering, you are def the older half of the crowd..

Oh my days, I've put off looking at this thread long enough.
I'm 29, turning 30 in february and let me tell you it is a massive deal to me. I know it's just a number but honestly, in my life I see it as a big wake-up call.
I feel like I've wasted my 20s. Basically I'm unemployed, having been fired from the one job I really enjoyed (although I have to say unfairly fired, but with no hope of disputing it in court or anything). I have a long-distance girlfriend who is coming to visit next month, which is something, but no long-term solid relationship as yet.
I really feel like the next 5 years of my life are make-or-break. It is either: succeed in pursuing a career now or... well, I don't know. If I'm 35 and with no skills then I don't see what the fuck I can do. It is literally NOW OR NEVER for me.
So I've decided that the one thing that has consistently held my interest throughout my life is computers, and that it's about time I started to learn how they actually work, and to learn how to programme them. In five years time I could have enough skills to be working in programming, I know that. But it will take WORK. Playing Street Fighter is not going to teach me how to programme.
So for me, turning 30 is all about manning-up. Quitting being a lazy slacker. It is time for me to become truly a man. And although I know I've said this before, with the coming of my third decade I can only hope that this time I fucking MEAN IT!
Maybe a tad dramatic but that's honestly what turning 30 means to me.
EDIT: and I posted this at 4am! Ah man, I feel like this is some major mid-life crisis shit I'm having!!
