I wish they would come out w/ a new Tony Hawk game that does'nt suck balls. The last good one was THUG2. Did anyone else play on PS2 online back in the day?

Back in the day video games didn't exist.
Back in the day people used to go outside.

Well THPS3 came out in 2001. I was 20, now i am 28. Just seems like a long time ago to me.

I'm not exactly "nostalgic" for a THPS game; but I did like the first two. I played them like crazy. Nothing was cooler than playing Spider-Man on a fucking skateboard. The franchise started going down, personally, after THPS3. I'm twenty-five but I played the hell out of them (ironically, in high school [lol @ gauze for irony]) when I had them. Last time I really ripped on a THPS game was when I had ran away; traded a bunch of crappy games on PSX in West Virginia for THPS2.

THPS 3 was where the series ended for me. Doing those 500 million point combos were too fun.

IMO THPS started sucking after part 3.
THPS actually got me into skateboarding, ended up doing it for about 5 years until injury. I think SKATE is a great game and you can actually appreciate the game mechanics if you've skated before. THPS just started getting too whacky. It didn't even remotely simulate skating after part 2.

They started cramming to much shit into the game. I feel they should have left the gameplay alone after THUG2 and just concentrated on creating games with new levels.

Yeah the online community was really strong on PS2 and PC for part 3, CTF on PC was godlike on the airport level at a high level. Part 4 was good, but the robot lines for points sucked ass and ended up pushing the community to improv lines and to make no manuel lines (whick I actually loved doing) since scoring was so boring. THPS slowly killed itself by making the points so easy to get and the transfers in lines easier and easier to do as the series went on. I played the THPS religiously for years in between arcade fighters and when we finally started to get reasonable online for fighting games.
I would love them to put out an online THPS collection, like parts 1-3, with online play and updated graphics. Would be great and I know alot of us would come back to the series. Ride looks gay.

So true. I played 1-3, tried 4, played thug cause it was $12 at gamestop, and they were all hashed out after 3. Thug, or the bam margera ones or whatever were just horrible. Havent played a skate sim since.
Now, if anyone knows, Matt Hoffman's bmx for PSX was A+ gaming.

American Wasteland was "Okay". I don't think I can really say that it was the last good one. THPS 2 was probably my favourite. I remember playing THPS3 online a few times; just never hoarded it out. AW had its moments, I'll admit. It was kind of goofy but it wasn't overly done like THPS4 was in regards to "over complicating" the tasks. Easy to perform, but what the hell man?
The only PS2 game that I connected to the 'net all the damn time was probably EverCr...EverQuest (Champions of Norrah). Sue me, I was addicted to EverQuest back when it first came out. I played Ultima Online too.. but that's a totally different story altogether.

THPS was great. I remember my friend kris had a demo of it and we played that shit for days/hours. Then THPS 2 came out. It had everything that made the first one great (controlles, graphics, sound track, etc.) and it added in the manual. That one move made the game wonderfull. After that I lost interest in THPS games.

I've played most all of the games, but honestly only because I was a fan of the skateboarders and wanted to see their parts in the game. I think the only one I really got a lot out of was THPS2, with that skate heaven level - that had all the best spots in it!
I never appreciated how over the top the game was after playing the Thrasher game, Skate and Destroy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qidlFMMoYio). That's still my favorite skateboarding game after Skate/Skate 2. When it comes to skateboarding games, I just can't hang with the arcade style gameplay.
And if I understand correctly, the new Tony Hawk game is 'On Rails'??? Is that true? You have to use a skate deck to control it, and you can't TURN AROUND?

Graffiti was probably the best multiplayer game when it came to THPS. It was just fun chasing your friend around re-tagging his trick areas and hitting some of your own in the same process.
Raoul Duke

^ That would be sweet. In THUG2 they had some lvls from previous games airport, canada, school, and philly they were fun to play.

I do miss the old THPS community, up until about midway through 4 it was real tight. I still talk to a lot of those fools to this day. In fact we still have a txo (old thps website) fantasy football league we play every year. Was some good times for sure.

well duh people say activision is evil but notice the 2 big series have been made with neversoft drilling it into the ground.
after 3 THPS just came out every year with another game cause it made money. they dropped it once Guitar Hero began to make money. I'm sure GH will get dropped once the next big thing is created.
I beg everyone here though PLEASE do not buy Ride. I DON'T want to deal with yet another peripheral and a real skateboard is actually cheaper than this game.

THUG2 is good too i recently played it and it wasnt that bad its just that the series got burnt out after like the first 3 games

THUG2 wasn't skateboarding. It was Jackass mixed with douchebaggery.
THUG was the last "best" one, but I've had the most fun with THPS2.

The best ones in the series in my opinion were parts one, two, and three. They kept true to the original and didn't go over the top with stupid shenanigans like Steve-O in a mechanical bull. The first ones also had the best soundtracks. Lots of oldschool skate punk. Even though I never really got into it, I know alot of people also really dug on the create a skate park in THPS 2 more than any other entry in the series as well.
Sadly though I have to admit, I have indeed played every single game in the series so far. I'm sure as hell not going to bother with "Ride" though.

Actually, the new game is 119.99. That's more than a new skateboard DECK. If you are buying a complete skateboard, you don't want the one that costs 119.

Man, you have to go back all the way to the Dreamcast to remember when Tony Hawk was good. All right, I'm being overly cynical... the third game was fun too, and American Sk8teland on the DS was more enjoyable than its console counterparts. Nevertheless, I think the series was on the road to ruin the moment they divorced it from two minute runs and tried to inject adventure elements into it. I don't want to talk to non-player characters and find their stupid trinkets... I just want to skate!
Also, Activision trying to turn THUG2 into Jackass: The Game smacked of desperation. Someone should have told them that nobody likes Bam Margera... not Jackass fans, not skateboarders, not even his parents.

It isn't. I think what made 2 the best one is that you didn't have any real reason to use quarterpipes and vert ramps. It was all street because of the manuals, basically all you needed the quarterpipes for was for the ender. Flying through the air in that game just wasn't as fun.

I forgot! My friend martin was in THPS 4 - He owns Kona Skatepark. His park was one of the levels. Haha, they made him look like a total wierdo. And his mom was in it too! Unfortunately that level was not fun to play. It's the worlds oldest privately owned skatepark, and probably the most fun. It's like a waterpark for skateboarders. Here's what it looked like in 83' (http://www.konaskatepark.com/Portals/0/Images/kona1983.gif).
