While I had a great time I have one minor complaint concerning the 3rd Strike brackets.

The players that were supposed to be seeded in the 3S tournament were the following:

1.) June Ro
2.) Nathan Roach (me)
3.) Colin Caldwell
4.) Richard West

Now out of those four Colin and I were the only ones to attend this past Saturday. Regardless, we still should have been seeded so that we wouldn't have to face each other after 2-3 fights in the winners bracket.

I honestly didn't mind (if I did I would have said something right then and there) but I just wanted to point this out for future reference. ;)

Anyways,

Onto the tournament itself!

In 3S I choked the big one. Casual play before hand was just me dicking around and in a ways I wish I took it a more seriously before the tournament started so I could have prep'ed myself mentally.

Come time for the tournament I had a hard time focusing and keeping my cool which in return really hurt my performance (that and Colin's Makoto beating the freaking Bejeezus out of me didn't help either. :p ).

Ah well, just gives me more incentive to try and make a come back next time. ("Hai! Back to training for me!")

Best part about the this whole weekend was playing Capcom vs. SNK ONE with Colin Caldwell and Trent Van Deven for about 2-3 hours solid.

That and going to Steak N' Shake and watching Colin confront the Mushroom Swiss Burger which came from the bowels of Hell. :lol:

Ah that was too much fun. :D Really had a great time hanging with you guys (Colin, Trent, and Rick.).



I hope everyone who came from out of town (Rick, Trent, Colin, Isaac, Team Jax, Alex Navarro, Robert Rios, etc.) had a safe ride home.

This tournament was great... mad fun... except the time though... I drank a red bull just to have sugar in my blood... but still I was sleepy when the tournament started.

Meeting everyone and playing all of them was great... my fingers and head was bleeding after that day of mad house Magnetos... Erik, Mike, Mike, Bryan, Chris was just to0 good.

Thankz to Infinite now... I found a great way to play on Mas... but this was after the tournament ended...lol

We should have had that Magneto tournament.. that would have been fun to watch and play in.... exspecailly in Turbo 2.

The losers bracket games were crazy.. I hope to see them soon.

MVC2 was kinda bad at times, cuz the game would freeze... this fucked up a lot of games. (especially mine and Mo's) but there isn't much you can do because well.. the DC ports burn out a lot... :bluu:

And out of all the people to lose to I get eliminated by a scrub called Mixup... what the hell.. :p

There are 2 green HORI sticks missing with COLIN labeled on the back. If you took these by mistake please contact me to return them. Someone also tried to steal TBear's digital video camera. There are security cameras in the hotel and at the exits. I will allow the person who took the sticks (maybe by accident) until Thurs. 8pm to contact me by pm. After that I will call in the police to review the tapes and we will press charges.

There is also a PS2 memory card missing. Please return this if you took it by accident. If not by accident, like I said, we will let the police review the tapes.

There was also a blue long sleeve shirt, black silk tie, PS1 memory card and a silver Omega chronograh left in the room. If these are ur's please contact me.

I fail to see why i even BEGAN to show you mvc2. Moh and erik and every other player that i spoke to{and you better believe i spoke to everyone} was on a totally different page than you were about the way you ran that tourney.

The usual way is a team of 3 people, has to pick one team for the entire tournament, KOF double elimination, 1 game matches.

This was the way that it was run in me and Erik's first tournament in September with the exception to picking one team for the entire tournament. That team tournament due to there only being 4 teams was over in about 35-40 min. And everyone said that they wished that every team could had played every other team.

Thus in October, I changed the rules to Gauntlet style, the way they are now and have been so for 5 months. The way I run it is that every team has 3 members, you can pick different teams, every team plays every team 2of3 each member and for every member defeated that team is awarded a point. So if that match-up goes until the very last members of each team, the winning team will have 3 points and the losing team has 2 points. If the first member beats all 3 members of the other team, then they have 3 points and the losing team has no points.

Should there be the chance of a tie, there will be a one game tie breaker, and the 2 teams with the highest points plays for the championship 3of5. No winner's and loser's brackets.

This is a complicated process for some people to understand... I had to explain to a certain individaul from Orlando the rules 3 times since November, but thankfully he understands now.

For bigger tournaments, KOF is used since there are many teams and there is a time constraint. Here in Florida the most teams we've had is 6 so far in a tournament, and I do believe when there are only 6 teams, the participants would like to get way more games for their money than the conventional double elimination KOF style.

Now at the last tournament there was drama over confusion of rules, and some people wanting to run gauntlet style with every team defeated you are awarded one point. Now I won't go into details of that conflict but I will explain why I am against the one point per team system. The reason that I am against this is that there is a very high possiblity of there being a 3 way tie for 1st or 2nd place with the points. In this case, we would have to run 3 different matches between the 3 different tied teams and count points again. This is a very long process, and by awarding points to individual members defeated, the chances of a 3-way tie are decreased 3 fold.

One important issue was brought up at the last tournament about awarding points to individual members defeated was what if every team just started their strongest member. There is not a problem with this, and actually it is a very good strategy to limit points to other teams. But there is a chance that if your strongest member is defeated in the very first game, then your team will not have a backup and might get sweeped. Some conventional styles are to start number two on the team first and then number one second or last, or vice versa. You are allowed to change your team order between different match-ups, depending on how you think different orders of members will affect your strategy vs different teams.

I believe this system used is more fun and encourages more planning about which member to start, and somtimes even play the point system to limit your opponents success, etc.


The general idea that I based this system on is that most of the teams in a tournament will be fairly even; but as with any tournament there will be stronger teams (Justin Wong/Desmond Pinkney/Ricky Ortiz at NEC) and weaker teams (Isaac Nicholson/Adam Burghardt/Eder Resendiz at Showdown3:lol: :lol::lol: ).

The complaint about awarding points to individual members defeated will lead to the strongest member always start first only has a limited effect on the outcome of the tournament. Should the strongest player at that tournament (i.e. Justin Wong) always go last and the first two members are always defeated, then if they still win every match-up they will win 3-2 everytime. And if they never lose a match-up, they will be guaranteed to be in the finals anyway.

The other scenario is that the strongest person starts first, and that they win 3-0 everytime, and in the end will not have a single point against them. They will still be in the finals regardless of the outcome of other matches played.

So then both these scenarios only really applies to a tournament when there is a single individual who clearly dominates everyone else in attendance, and even then, the effect is not as much as it seems. Despite dominating every other team in the first stage of the team tournament, any other team can come back and still defeat them in the finals where order and points does not matter.


I don't know if anything I just wrote makes sense to anyone esle, but we will take a vote. These tournaments are about people getting together and having a good time. And if the majority of the entrants don't like the rules, then we will change them to favor the players, because without you guys, these things would never happen........

What started as 2 guys in Gainesville sitting around a record store and came up with an idea of throwing a tournament one day has turned into something much more than we could have ever imagined. The gaming scene here in Florida has been regenerated and and rejuvenated bringing back old faces and produced new ones.........These tournaments bringing people from Miami, Bama, Georgia, New York, New Orleans and as far as Hawaii, and has really generated some really good buzz about the Atl. South.

Despite tensions running high and lack of sleep and me pissing anyone off, I would like to just thank everyone that has made these things possible and I would just like to give some special thanks to people that deserves some extra recognition for all their help:

Moh: Couldn't have done the last two tourneys without you period....You came through big time and I can't thank you enough. You are truly one of my best friends are I know I can always count on you. And thanks for the uncountable A-Zone 48hr Marvel sessions.

Thanks for all your help bringing stuff and picking people up from the airport and bringing them down and offering your place to us. Thanks for driving around saturday TWICE to help bring shit. Even though we started late, we would've started a lot later without you.

First of all, Justin, we had a meeting before this tourney that you called and made perfectly clear that everyone be *on time* to, and you were one hour late. Van woke up from being sleep deprived from actually doing thing related to life and not marvel or cvs2 to come just because you called a meeting and you didn't even make it while he was there. That's just disrespectful, not just to Van, but to everyone who was actually there for you to call this so called meeting which actually served no purpose what so ever.

Second, you can sit there and call me unorganized at this meeting. How in the fuck can you do that? Do you realize that the ONLY REASON why you have half the organization now that you do is because I TOLD YOU PERSONALLY TO RUN TOURNAMENTS IN BLOCK FORMAT. *I* was the one who effectively set the tournies here in an orgainzed fashion and you sit there and tell me to my face that I was unorganized at the tourney before Invasion, and the only reason why CvS2 Ratio was fucked up was because YOU RAN THIRD STRIKE the SAME TIME as CvS2 when any idiot knows that CvS2 players are the most likely to be entering a 3S tourney. The ONLY REASON why my shit got fucked up while I was running it was because YOU STARTED RUNNING THINGS while I was doing my own shit. This last tourney, I ran CvS2 and it was more successful than anything you ran just from judging the long ass post that you had to make justifying whatever you did. I didn't have to justify anything I did because EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY. The only complaint I got was from John Sindel and Alex Navarro's match up where there was an unreported reset and I had them redo the match. That's it. No fucking drama.

I can't believe you will sit here and act like you have done nothing wrong. You have friends here that sit here and help you get better one of the only facets of your life that you can cling to (MvC2) and you you toss them aside at tourney time and then proceed to fuck them in the ass just because you care about winning. Did you forget that playing games is all about competition and having fun? Do you really know that I don't help you run tournies here to help you solely? I help you run tournies because I care about people who like to play and want competition outside of thier norm. I care about the people who are willing to take that long ass drive to play. I disqualified myself from my own tourney because a mistake I made in a bracket, even though I wanted to play very badly. Why? One point that I don't understand is this: the whole issue is that Justin told everyone that the team tournament was on a pt. per team system, and then secretly decided to change it to pt. per person without telling anyone, clearly cheating....

I made a big issue about it because had I known that it was pt. per person I would have always went first, since I am GOD, never letting mohammad go first since he sucks and is a backstabber. Makes sense right? The best person should go first to limit points to opposing teams. Justin didn't tell us this so he can cheat his way to the top, letting the best on his team go first...............but wait:

I was telling the way things were and what could be done to fix it, but if you want to ignore the problem in exchange for talking about it and working it out that is fine. I don't understand really how you can get mad. There was no direct attempt at insulting you and, as a matter of fact, there was a pointed statement at saying this is probably pretty shitty and you're probably not that crazy. But then, I could be naive and wrong, too. You could just totally be an ass like that. If none of us get together and talk about it, I guess we'll never know. If you want to condemn everyone for speaking up and just because it doesn't support every word that you say or want to say, that's fine, too.

But I seriously think I'm not the wrong person here, seeing as how I have more than one person agreeing with me and legitimizing my post. I had people sitting there so that, if at any point in my post I was simply belligerent and made invalid points, I would be stopped and informed. I was never stopped.

Instead of telling everyone to fuck off Justin, you should get everyone together and really ask why the hell all of us feel this way. We all are not just out of towners that have a bitching to do about how things are done, we are the people that are the closest to you and were willing to give up our time for little or no gain.

You didn't even go through my post and talk about anything that mattered. You talked about the one tiny conflict I have had at the two or three tournies that I've ran. Forming a rule to prevent counter-charactering, which actually is exactly what happened, is not so ridiculous.

Instead of picking out the one discrepency that I've had, which actually had nothing to do with my entire post, why don't we address what I had to say?

I am telling you what more than one person feels about how do you do things. You do it in order to bring more people to your tournies, which is a good thing. But don't make things like that at expense of the people who are here. Don't ignore the possible problem when it's drawn out for you so things can actually be worked out.

All of which are points that greatly overshadow the unforgiving screw up of not having rules that make everyone happy. Our alliance did start because of our mutual love for the game, but our friendship gradually became stronger and therefore, should be held together by more than just Capcom.

I didn't realize how deep shit got over the last 24hours. Alot of emotions are running high, and some of us feel the need to get defensive while others want to simply set the record straight.

Justin, that day when you pulled me outside of the store and explained to me how you, Mo, Will, and Alex didn't like hanging around me too much because I was acting like a "dick", I initially wanted to say "Fuck You All", and likewise, you all could've said "Fuck Me" and not come around anymore. But instead you explained to me how everyone was feeling, and I listened to what you had to say and respected your opinions because you were all my friends. So before you officially say Fuck Anyone, we ALL need to sit down and express what's on our minds.

For now, let's call what happend this weekend a "Misunderstanding Amongst Tournament Directors and Friends."

We'll settle this in person and go from there.

And to everyone else out there, the Marvel Scene in the ATL South ain't going nowhere, and G-ville will still host some of the hottest touries.

Erik I wish you the best in running these tourneys that we started. We came a long way in putting Gainesville on the map. Go win Evolution for me. I won't be apart of this crew anymore. I have to concentrate on school and I really just don't feel like dealing with all this shit that's happened. The reason why i got so mad wasn't some misunderstanding; it was due to the idea that a friend thought it possible I was trying to screw him over for $15. After that, everyone else in Gainesville with the exception of Erik decided to jump on his side and all come down on me.

What am I supposed to do at this point? Beg for forgiveness? I don't understand why a month ago when this person had the game resetted on him three times in a tournament he didn't mind, but he raised hell about me not being clear on the rules. Am I that big of a push over?

With all this said, I wish everyone that I've met over the past 6 months throughout the country nothing but the best, and continue doing what you love. Have fun at FR6 and for those of you going, ECC8 and Evo. Erik it's been fun and nothing but good memories, and I'll still be around.

I think it'd be a wise decision to meet up with Erik, Mike, Brian, and all the other's you're currently having issues with and talk it out. Some of things were said here were in anger/frustration and shouldn't be taken to heart.

I don't want to see you leave the Florida scene because I find you to be a really fun guy to associate with. If you leave the scene I will personally consider it a loss.

And even if you never personally direct another tournament I'd still like to see you attend.

It's all up to you really. If you decide to leave the scene then that's your choice. Let me just say that you will be missed by the PSL Players and that we really appreciated the effort you (and Brian, and Mike, And Van, etc.) put into the scene here in Florida.

The past two "Showdowns in the South" I've attended were excellent tournaments and keep me looking forward to the next one.

In the mean time take care and hope to meet up with you again in the near future.

I think Shocky was referring to the fact that you can't juggle Alex after Q's command grab like you can with the rest of the cast.

Good job getting 5th in 3S you have a really good Alex (I met you in the loser's bracket and used Q, we had some close matches.). Hopefully next time we meet up I'll be a bit more prepared.
