Alright, here is the situation.

Lightning Storm and I will be staying at the hotel on campus. In an attempt to defray our costs, we are seeking others that would like to throw in on the room for the nights of the 7th through the 10th.

And if we can establish some ground rules, I'm cool with just about anyone because I know that nobody in their right mind or otherwise is gonna try and jack me. Plus, we are all coming together for the same reason.

Only things that I can think of right now is that money would have to be upfront and sorry, but the only people with keys to the room are those whose name are on it.

LS can add anything I may have neglected or wants to say.

Cool, cool. Again, the amount of money put out by each individual will be dependent on the amount of people who stay with us. Me personally I would say no more than $20 per night per individual. Obviously the more people we get, the cheaper it is.

We won't be bringing anything except maybe an Xbox and HALO.

We'll definitely be there and just some background I guess.

Heh, don't worry. We will be getitng the room reserved today. Plus we are getting a room at the hotel ON campus so that there is no need for transportation to the tournament.

Basically if we get 10 people, accommodations will be $12 per night.

Some things that might seem obvious, but you never know when you are planning a major trip:

1. Bring a sleeping bag and pillow.

2. Bring deodorant and shampoo.

3. Clean clothes.

Hey guys, me and my friend from MD gonna be comin for MVC2. I should know by this weekend if we need to stay with you guys(we have a maybe on someone we know), but if not, we'd be more than happy to stay with you guys :D .

Question: We'll be flying out there. What airport are you guys arriving at? Who'd gonna be drivin us to the hotel/EVO or is it near the airport or are we gonna be grabbin cabs or whatnot?

The hotel is the one right on campus, so there will be no need to drive to the campus. I'm not sure because LS is handling the tickets, but I would assume LAX.

Yes, reservations for the hotel on campus are reserved. This hotel has the exact same address of Evo.

Reality check time again!

We really should limit the number of people in the room. While a lot is fine (what ever "a lot" is) we need to be realistic here.

This is going to be your typical hotel room, with two double beds in it. Therefore the floor space will be limited to the amount of people that can fit there. Obviously 20+ people simply won't fit in the room when laying down. And another obvious point is that I get one bed and Beast gets the other.

That being said, I say we limit this to a max of 10 people (12 counting Beast and myself).

So far I have:

This leaves us FOUR spaces... So if anyone else is interested let us know.

Assuming we get all 10 people the price per person would be a whopping $12 per night per person!! Payable upfront (as in the day we get there.) No matter how many people we get the absolute MAX we'd ask is about $35 per night per person. This figure will obviously change based on the numer of people. So for those of you wondering how much.... expect to pay anywhere between $10-$35 per night.

So in that even I suggest that anybody who plans to stay with us write down this info so you aren't relying on SRK, in the event that something comes up and you can't go to Evo or you need to contact Beast or myself.

LS: played some games last night and mark (sadsushi) said that it is a possibility(or well there was some talk of), mark, josh and cory going to evo this year. i tried to get ahold of cory to tell him bout the hotel room you guys are setting up to see if they want to join, just FYI at this point but i figured you would at least want to know becuase im sure if they are going then they would we intrested in joining the ranks. but i will folow up on this sometime saturday afternoon.

Zer0 - you've got it.

Expense Expectations:

One good rule of thumb is to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

1. Your first expense will be getting there. ie. plane tickets, car gas, bus fare, or whatever.

2. If you fly, then one must consider what would be the best option. Renting a car or taking a cab. Car rental is more expensive but FAR more convienient. If you stay with us then I think a cab should suffice because our hotel is in the same building as EVO. The cost of a cab ride varies greatly from city to city but in evey case it's always WAY more expensive than you'd think. I went to Chicago once and cab ride of about 45 miles was like $70 and that was without traffic so the ride was only about 30-45 minutes. **CABS DO TAKE CREDIT CARDS!**

3. The hotel. Like I said prepare for the worst - I said earlier it'd be about $10-$12 per person per night. BUT if people cancel on us that price will go up. So for safety sakes bring AT LEAST $40 per night per person to cover this. Bring cash or money orders... personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.

4. The tournaments one tourny is $30 two is $40 three is $50 etc..

5. FOOD - I've never been to LA, but I have been to San Jose and prices there aren't as ridiculous as I've heard they could be ... but don't expect to eat for a measly $5 per meal. I'd advise bringing enough for at least $10 per meal.

6. Optional Fun - Some of us have never been to LA and non-video game related fun might be an option. If so, bring money for this. I'd also recommend money for tokens or the games themselves. I'm sure they'll be on free play, but YOU NEVER KNOW - better safe than sorry.

All of this sounds hella expensive, but coming over prepared is better than under prepared because you can always go back home with left over money.

Also for anything on the trip that might take credit card or checks or what not... I'd suggest you use this for your own safety. This is the typical travel advice so you don't get jacked. Especially in our case where we're all trusting each other to stay in the same room.

I personally would like to touch on one aspect of LSs last post.

We are all trusting each other since the majority of us are unassociated in real life. I guarantee you this though. And by no means am I trying to be a dick or anything, BUT!, if anything of anybodys comes up missing at any point in time, a search of everything will be conducted at that point in time.

When missing item is found, and dependent on the item (Basically we are talking about money here, cuz damn, if somebody takes a pair of my boxers to sniff in private that's just a little fucked up for me) there will be a chance to explain, and if the explanation is not sufficient, there will be dire consequences.

As long as we are all aware of this and in unison and HONEST, we will have no issues. Basically going along a theme here of anticipating the worst and hoping for the best. That's how you need to be IMO, prepared.

Where exactly did you gather we were getting a car? I explicitly said "I think a cab should suffice because our hotel is in the same building as EVO." - since the hotel is in the same building... NO ONE needs to drive anywhere.

As for the money you're bringing... that'll easily cover your portion of the hotel. As for the rest of the expenses, you need to consider how much you plan to eat while there and how much you plan to spend on games (assuming they aren't on free play).

Since nobody will have a car what ever other entertainment you do will be all of your own choosing. That was simply something to think about when travelling. If you plan to do anything outside of video games then you'd need money for that.

One extra is always good to have in the event someone cancels at the last minute and if not... then we'll make room for you.

And yeah you can do what ever outside the room but in the room (or let's make that in the hotel in general) we must maintain a strict substance free environment. Because getting kicked out of a hotel 1500 miles from home is simply not an option.

You must excuse Beast he's a bit hyper. He's cool as hell though when you meet him.

How we're all meeting up is a good question. First we need to find out when everyone's arriving? So if you have your plane tickets then you need to let us know what flight you are arriving in on and at what time it lands. If you're trying to arrive around the same time that Beast and I are then our flight schedule is posted a little ways back. If you're driving, then you will simply go straight to the hotel and you will need to call my cell phone. DO NOT ASK anyone at the front desk ANYTHING (this is important). Since my cell phone will be long distance hopefully you too will have a cell or a pre-paid calling card to use!

Also when August arrives I would like EVERYONE who plans on staying with us to post here again simply saying "Yep, I'm still going, and I'm still staying with you." Just as a final confirmation. If anyone doesn't post by August 4th then we will assume you are not staying with us and we will try to replace you in the room. Beast and I will also post saying we're still going and all's good on our end too.

No need to delay getting your flight... we've got ours and it lands at 12:48pm at ONT.

The hotel is $110 per night... and then there's taxes. You might want to read through the rest of this thread for all expense possibilities... because if someone cancels at the last minute everyone will end up paying more than expected, not a lot more granted... but more none the less.

Since LightningStorm and Beast are arriving about an hour and a half afterward, I figure I can stick around for a while after I arrive and meet up with you guys so we can split the costs for transportation. And for the record, this is my "I'm still going and I'm still staying with you guys" post.

Oh, and I'm from SOVA. I tried to make it to a few Gametime tournaments, but my rides kept flaking out, so I never made it, unfortunately.

No, hotels don't keep their shuttles up to date like that. LAX to Cal Poly is about 45-50 miles. Assume that you probably won't pay less then $2/mile therefore, you have a $100 cab ride (each way), ouch.
A suggestion might be to try to get a ride from another player and/or coordinate your arrivial time with someone else that's gettting picked up. Make it worth someone's time by paying them some cash. whatever you pay them, I'm sure you'll end up saving (alot of) money.

Also.. I'm copying and pasting another post I made that people should think about for this trip.

Expense Expectations:

One good rule of thumb is to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

1. Your first expense will be getting there. ie. plane tickets, car gas, bus fare, or whatever.

2. If you fly, then one must consider what would be the best option. Renting a car or taking a cab. Car rental is more expensive but FAR more convienient. If you stay with us then I think a cab should suffice because our hotel is in the same building as EVO. The cost of a cab ride varies greatly from city to city but in evey case it's always WAY more expensive than you'd think. I went to Chicago once and cab ride of about 45 miles was like $70 and that was without traffic so the ride was only about 30-45 minutes. **CABS DO TAKE CREDIT CARDS!**

3. The hotel. Like I said prepare for the worst - I said earlier it'd be about $12 per person per night. BUT if people cancel on us that price will go up. So for safety sakes bring AT LEAST $40 per night per person to cover this. Bring cash or money orders... personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.

4. The tournaments one tourny is $30 two is $40 three is $50 etc..

5. FOOD - I've never been to LA, but I have been to San Jose and prices there aren't as ridiculous as I've heard they could be ... but don't expect to eat for a measly $5 per meal. I'd advise bringing enough for at least $10 per meal.

6. Optional Fun - Some of us have never been to LA and non-video game related fun might be an option. If so, bring money for this. I'd also recommend money for tokens or the games themselves. I'm sure they'll be on free play, but YOU NEVER KNOW - better safe than sorry.

All of this sounds hella expensive, but coming over prepared is better than under prepared because you can always go back home with left over money.

Also for anything on the trip that might take credit card or checks or what not... I'd suggest you use this for your own safety. This is the typical travel advice so you don't get jacked. Especially in our case where we're all trusting each other to stay in the same room.

So what do i do with meeting u guys.....
If i come on the 7th that means there's like 8 hours b4 evo
But if i come on the 6th that means i have to wait in the airport for more then 12 hours..

I guess I can bring my Xbox, DC, and my DC mas and ps1/2 adapter. You guys should know those tvs are usually blocked off from putting any kind of inputs in them. It'd be great if someone brought a tv just in case, or at least a dreamcast rf adapter. I don't play mvc2 much but I'd give it a shot.
