Dear friends -

I wanna say thank you on giving us all the support and input on the Street Fighter project! This is a rare time that I would actually need your help!

The initial order numbers of SF #1 just came in, and the amount the comic retailers has put in is UNREALISTICALLY LOWER than we expect.... I have to say, if these are the final sale numbers, we might not be able to keep this alive for much too long....

The state of comic book retail nowadays is not healthy. I am pretty sure that with these numbers, this book will get sold out very soon. And a lot of people who wants the book will miss out on it. Yes, it will become an instant collectible like the SF#0 and become hot on EBAY, but that is not going to help in the long run. I want to make sure everyone who wanted a copy can get it a the cover price. The problem here seems that the Comic Book Shop Owners do not have confidence in this project.

We have to understand that the past track record of SF books has not been good. So the store owners are not willing to order more books on a SF title. So, we have to tell them this time, it is different. This time, we are doing a REAL book that fans (including ourselves at UDON!) would be proud of holding a copy in our hand. Here is where you guys comes in.

PLEASE call all you local stores and tell them you want to see the SF book. Tell your friends to do it! Tell every SF fan out there to go to their local store to reserve a copy. Retailers normally only get enough for their pull list nowadays and they won't order too many extras. So we gotta tell them what we need to give them confidence in this title!

If you need the number for your local shop, call toll free 1-888-COMIC-BOOK (1-888-266-4226) to find one!

Thanks!

THANK YOU!

The key is to let the RETAILERS, who might not be SF fans and in some cases who do not even know what SF is (think about old dudes that are like 50+ years old who has never played video games...) to know that there is a demand. That is why I am asking you guys to call them up everyday and tell them you want it!

Appreciate it!

It's not Udon's fault, but i just don't feel good about this comic anymore. I was really excited early on, whn i saw the couple pages and stuff.

But after finding out that you have to use "Shotokan" and stuff. It makes me wonder what else from Capcom USA you will have to use.

Those are all cosmetic changes, they don't impact the central storyline in a way that it can't be appreciated. You should give it a chance, UDON are fans of SF like the rest of us and it shows with the quality of the art we've seen so far. I highly doubt that the writing will be far behind in merit.

Can we please stop using minor technicalities to find reasons not to like the book?

In case there's anyone here who doesn't know, the USA is the only reason that SF exists the way it does. If the game hadn't exploded in America, it would have just been another game that did alright but cost for extra hardware to be worth it for arcade owners. Don't be so quick to attribute everything that is SF to Japan. Take some pride or something. It's not like Capcom of Japan's storyline is that perfect either.

For the specific case of Evil Ryu, i can't believe this even gets brought up!! Capcom USA created Evil Ryu. SFA2 Japan does not have Evil Ryu. He was first available in the US version of the game, and there was a later upgrade in Japan called "Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha" that had Evil Ryu and a bunch of random EX version characters with no supers. So why is there hate that they're using Capcom USA NAMES (not actual storyline, but fucken names) when it was Capcom USA that created the character in question in the first place?

I'm going to my local comic book store and telling them that i'm going to be buying one of every cover version of SF#1 that i can get at cover price and that my gaming friends are interested in it as well. And i'm going to say that if they only order like 3 copies and up the price the first day it comes out, i'm not buying any. So they better order enough to actually sell it.

Sometimes I can't help but wonder if I created a monster. Course, I suppose if I did, it's partially Capcom of America's fault, too.

Of course, in all honesty, these days I'm starting to think Capcom of Japan itself doesn't remember its own Street Fighter canon...

Let's not turn this into another on of those debating what name to use thread.... please...

I am sorry that the use of this one name upsets you Shape. And I hope that all these other stuff that we are doing will interest you enough to keep reading.

And as I said, we are not even going to give him a real name as "Evil Ryu" . It is in the plots that we have to give this form of RYU some written "term" so that when we sent the thing to Capcom (Japan) for approvals, they know what and who we are talking about. And that is the easiest term in English to refer to that character that everyone understands, even including our translator in Capcom Japan.

HE WILL NOT BE REFFERRED TO AS "EVIL RYU" IN THE BOOK. For all it matters, it is something deep inside Ryu's mind. It is more like an internal struggle. Its not like Ryu would go out and discuss this with Ken and go "Hey, I have a nightmare fighting with this Evil Ryu dude!".

Hope that again clears things up.

And CALL YOUR RETAILERS!!!!! ;)

and for more info on SF#1

It is scheduled to ship September 3rd. It comes in 3 covers -

The UDON 50 character cover, the Joe Mad cover, and the Chun Li Power Foil by Jo Chen. The 2 regular covers has a retail price of USD 2.95. The Power Foil is an incentive that if your retail store orders 10 copies of the regular covers in total, they get one copy of teh Power Foil. They can individually order extra copies of Power Foil for a fixed cost.

For those of you who also post in other fighting game forums or any other sites, please spread the word and tell people to call up local retailers and pre-order the book. They are indeed taking orders now and they can still do re-orders for the next 2 weeks.

Well I am definitely excited about finally getting a hold of a street fighter related comic that does not make me feel repulsed by it (cough...Malibu comic version). Although Japan has been treated to many versions of SF mangas, the US has received hardly any, especially ones of actual quality. The plot of Street Fighter has been a mystery to the majority of gamers due to Capcom's focus more on gameplay or lack of effort to put in some type of plot in their later versions of SF. Although the technical aspects of gameplay is a must for a fun fighter, a great storyline on why the fighter you selected doesn't hurt; it puts more of a purpose to continue playing the game in order to see what the conclusion is to your fighter's dilemma. Games like Final Fantasy and such continue to be remembered to this day because the memories of the stories told may trigger players' emotions and that is what captivates a large audience of gamers eventhough most RPGs have very little replay value when you beat the game, unlike the fighting genre.

The game SNK vs Capcom has caught my interest because there is actually going to be dialogue interactions between characters and a storyline with individual endings. The new SF comic provides another median to capture the imagination of what the street fighter universe really is like. SRK is where we continue our daily debates on who is the best fighter, who makes the best rival match-ups, etc. We continue to do so because there is a rich history of the SF canon that has not been fully understood by the masses and if we wish to see the comic series thrive for many years and be able to share the SF culture that we love to the uninitiated, this will increase the popularity of SF once again and if the reader is inspired enough by the comic to want to learn to play SF again, this will bring more competition to the scene and a higher demand for future SF installments. SF2 is what revived the gaming industry back in '91 and now the series has become ho-hum to the mainstream. I would hate for the SF series to slowly die off the way it appears to be with the drought of Capcom SF titles. Not to sound like a labor union leader or anything but since we are the hardcore community of SF players, it should be our responsibility to spread the word about the comic to the masses(via other forums, contact your comic retailer, let your buddies know about it, etc) to ensure not only the survivability of the SF comic, but perhaps the future of SF itself(the higher the demand and sales, the better outlook it will be to Capcom of Japan that SF is still very popular in the US and is likely to invest more capital in a future SF game). With some minor technicalities aside, UDON has been following the true essence of the SF canon and it would be a shame if it's flame was extinguished prematurely.

Yes, Joe Mad is still alive, and he is doing a BACK UP STORY on top of that cover you see for issue #1.

There might be online stores that carry them. But we will not be setting up a store to actually sell each issue because that will directly compete with the retail shops and history tells us that those guys wont like that...

Thanks!

It's been an interesting year to be an SF Fanatic. In the begining, there were promises of a new SF game, CFAS, a new Art Book and SVC. Well, the SF Game and CFAS will not come out, while I still don't have the Art Book (Pick up my copy today! Yay! I think...) it seems to have 90% of Artwork I already own from what I've seen. So that leaves me with SVC which I'm enjoying and the SF Gallery Site where you can repeatedly vote for your favorite chatacters which is fun and that's about it.

Course, the other thing I was looking forward to was the SF Comic, made by people who love SF, talk to us, listen to us (they fixed mistakes many people pointed out in the wrap around cover) and have read TiamatRoar's Plot Guide! And know a Dark Cloud looms above even this.

I will definitely support this comic, because increasing SF's Popularity in the US can only make my SF Fanatic lifestyle easier. I've told my friends about it and will Pre-order all the Covers minus the Foil since I've already ordered the Chun-Li Foil cover with SF #0 at Dynamic Forces. I really hope things go well.

People, please don't be hung up by a few words and minor Storyline changes. Even Masahiko Nakahira changed storyline Elements in his Manga, and not only did Capcom like some of the changes they incorporated many of them in their storyline and adapted Karin who you gotta love!

So udoneko, I wish you all the best.

Well, I was just kidding on the names stuff in the other thread, It may even be benefical.

I'll be talking to my (3) retailers this week, I'll ask about the comic and some banners - I haven't seen any of them, whats up udoneko? they would really help here, two of my retailers are next to some arcades, but arcade goers don't go there, If they saw SF comic banners w/the capcom logo on them, they would come in.

Most of the new releases sold over here are most based on hype than the actual book, maybe if you got some kind of arcade banners or maybe flyers, I'd be happy to see some.

Also udoneko, here in mexico there is a big publisher (VID) who are translating several Image comics (Spawn, Gen13, etc..) and doing a good work, I was tempted to speak to a guy there, but I didn't know if it would be okay for you if I asked them for the SFcomic or not?

In the meantime, well, me & my bro placed our orders, and most of my buddies are picking some of these up, I'll tell them to speak w/the retailers ASAP.

But I want to know something:

What the FFF did I ordered?? I placed the order for the 5 different prices available in Previews, what will I receive, I know 3 are the diff covers, and other said "Red holofoiled".

I don't have my ordering papers round here, but those were 5 orders and you're telling there's only 3??

I agree with the people who are saying that better advertising strategies are the best idea, especially inkblot's. evo couldn't be more ideal for showing off a comic that deserves far more recognition..

that is exacly what the situation on hand is - most comic retailers will only order enough books to cover what they THINK would sell... and the old SF book has proven to them that no one likes SF Comics. So based on the old experience, they would think no one actually wanted this book.

On the other hand, most readers would think that if there is a SF comic coming out week of Sept 3rd, if I go to the comic store, I will be able to find a copy. We (as customers) are all taking it for granted that the retailers are going to provide us what we need all the time.

Unfortunately, time has change and in such low economy time, 90% of the retailers would rather has the book sold out and clean their hands, make their profit, than ordering too many and have a copy left that becomes a dead weight to their cash flow.

That is why I said both retailers and customers has to do a "Matrix Reload" on the purchasing proceedures. That is why as a first step, I am encouraging all of you to go as far as you can tell give confidence to the retailers that SF is something people do like and show them the power of the SF fandom!

I have faith in Street Fighter. I know all of you also do. Let's educate the people that do not and make this upcoming SF 15th anniversary as big of a deal as possible.

I can tell you this - We have the comic to start the ball rolling, and later, there will be posters, lithographs, resin busts, statues, from us next year... and I know other potnetial deals in the works includes action figures, Kubrick figures, RPG, Games, TShirts, are all in the works. Our comic is just the tip of the iceburg. If we can prove that SF can be big, I am sure it will speed up the process of completing all these deals and we will have a very exciting anniversary for our favorite game next year!

Otherwise, all might be lost.....

Don't give up hope udoncomics!! im excited about this comic. can't wait till #1!!! but i've seen your artwork in this comic. imo, it's the best comicart i've seen. i'm not just saying that cause i am a street fighter fan. the cover will help sell. japanese animation has been getting more and more popular in the USA. since your comic is based on a japanese game , i guess you can call your comic a NorthAMerican-japanese-comic thing :) . so when people go to the comic book store, they will look at that fabulous artwork, they will be curious and buy it.

i've told my local comic store if they had the street fighter comic (obviously they don't, i was not aware it wasnt out! lol). I know a billion trillion gagillian street fighter players in Alameda (who suck , except the wolfe;s and me imo :D) and it's gonna sell out like whoa!!

so keep your hopes up!!!! im excited about #1 (jus look at my avatar)

Believe me, I will. Today, I went to my local comic shop and started their subscription service, making a point to specify ALL covers. My question is: How much advertising are we "allowed" to do? As in, if we bought some of #0 and wave them about, that seems like no big deal. We should do that. But if we ordered copies of #1 as say, prizes in a arcade tourney, would we need any special permission or anything? I ask that because contests and such have specific legalities to them that's all. Not to sound full of it but you guys are giving this far more attention than Capcom is. All of us here CAN'T let the comic fail.

BTW, will there be a letters section in the comic?

OK, but the posters won't be needed AFTER the comic does its thing, you should ship some for the comicbook stores along with the comic, in fact some should have been sent as advertising.

OK,maybe they were and my fucking store didn't show 'em...

And yeah, it can be great, I really hope Capcom throws something visually stunning so we can get more people into our shit, but i'm sure as hell that the book will be a boost

Last week I started a subscription through my comic shop. I made it especially clear that I wanted every single cover available, no matter how many are released each month. I can't wait for this series.

Maybe it would be a good idea if you guys created a printable flier that we the fans could print out at home to distribute around our communities (like in the arcades).

I'll do anything to keep this comic book alive. Whether I have to buy two copies of each cover, or stand out in front of my comic shop dressed as Ryu handing out home made fliers.

Hmmm... funny you should post that there is less demand for your comics and comics in general.

I bought a copy at T4. I liked it and had a few friends who wanted to pick up a few more copies. I emailed info@udoncomics.com and two of the artists who were there signing the comics. To date, I still haven't received a single reply.

I like the comic, but I think you shouldn't expect a HIGH demand for your comics if you're not even willing to answer a simple email about "how I can pick up more copies".

udoneko - Before issue 1 is released, I would like to see some minor changes in the art/coloring.

1st - Ryu looks like the attached post. You can really get by with just a recolor.

Man, havnt posted here in a long time.

Udoneko -

Do you actually work for UDON Comics?

Are you their PR guy or something?

Also I recently found out my fav artist Corey Lewis of www.ninjarage.com is doing a small mini story of SF#1 (just like Joe Mad)

So what all is included in issue #1?

For those of you who care, I recently did some more artwork for SFN, and me and a friend are writting the story out as a movie script (I figure with all the video game and superhero based movies coming out why not write it)

Now Im thinking how cool it be for UDON to do an adaption of my Street Fighter Neo idea (man, thats wishful thinking)

I personally have a few suggestions about the comic. For one, make #0 more widespread/available. And I'm not talking about the limited edition version on Dynamic Forces that will get jacked up on eBay. I mean just the regular print version. The preview of it in the GamePro insert shows great detail and is a great primer--especially since it will have a group of mini bios to introduce characters. Second, limit the multiple covers. Though a stadard and a foil each month seems cool, it seems like doing more turns off some stores and readers.

BTW, original SF comic thread for the rest of you out there http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27200&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Man, I haven't read any comics in years, but I had been hoping to pick this one up. It's sad to hear the the numbers are so low, but I guess I should have expected as much. I'll definately track down a nearby shop and request that they have enough on hand. I want to support this as much as possible. I hope that you guys don't disappoint. I'll spread the word.:)

I like the comic, but I think you shouldn't expect a HIGH demand for your comics if you're not even willing to answer a simple email about "how I can pick up more copies".

OK.. sorry for not getting back to you sooner... I just came back after almost a week leave to Chicago Wizard World convention and I am swamped with e-mailes and stuff. I will sort through everything and get back to you.

Regarding how to get more copies of SF#0, I am arranging it with a few online retailers and I will have a page posted up at the SFcomics site in about a week or so. Dynamicfoces.com is one of them that you can check out now.

More to come.

I have a question/suggestion: instead of prying away at the usual comic book retailers, have you thought about offering video game retailers the opportunity to sell them as well? I think they might be just as if not more receptive to a SF comic, and there's a good chance you'll be reaching more potential readers than with comic book shops.

We are working on that already. But the video game stor distribution is different, and they are not really used to carry the monthly comics so we have a lot to figure out how to work through their systems....

And SF #1 in scheduled to ship Sept 3rd.

Hey Udon,

I was lucky enough to be able to walk right into my local comic book store and pick up a copy of Street Fighter #0, which was great if a bit short, but what else is expected of a preview. Anyway, I saw a version of the cover online that has the "Champion edition" colors of the characters instead of the defaut (Ryu in grey, Ken in blue, Chun Li in red, Guile in Brown, Blanka in blue, etc.)

Where can you get this?

BTW, loving the book. This will surely become a monthly read for me.

Off the subject, what do you think of the Dreamwave Transformers comics? I've been reading all the G1 stuff.

Hey Udon,

One more question. Will we be seeing the EX characers in the Street Fighter comics? I would love to see Skullo, Blair, Kairi, Hokuto, Nanase, & the others in print form.

Of course I highly doubt it will happen as EX is owned by Arika, not CAPCOM. All I want to see is one panel of Skullo, maybe with Dan in it...

Thanks!

The comic shop I get my books from has already ordered it. I have already bought a bunch of them. The art is good and I am looking forward to the story that follows. Hope for much success in this series.

since both udon and Dreamwave are doing comics of Capcom franchises can you guys do some kind of distribution program w/the video game retailers

I mean comics based on GOOD video game franchises should sell pretty well in VG stores too.

Who did that Akuma cover for SF0? And just how many variants of that comic are there??

TAS
08-15-2003, 12:26 PM
The cover of SF#0 was done by Alvin Lee (I think) and there are 3 (actual) variant covers for issue #0

SF#0 Covers include

Akuma (leaping) by Alvin Lee (I think)
SF2 World Warriors Cast (variant featuring SF2 Turbo colors)
Dynamic Forces Joe Mad Sketch (also has a black chrome variant)

Maj
08-15-2003, 12:58 PM
Actually, now that you mention it i do remember seeing two variants of the World Warriors (plus Akuma) cover. One was the original SF2:WW colors, and one was the Champion Edition colors. But i don't remember where i saw the second one. It seems DF has two variants of the Joe Mad sketch cover, so would that mean that there are five total SF0 covers? Two WW covers, two Joe Mad sketch covers, and the Alvin Lee (?) Akuma cover? Or is the Champion Edition variant something else?

I am not trying to avoid EVO. It is just the case that there has been a lot happenning and things need to be set in priority. First priority is to get SF #1 out on time. Then it is all the other books that we are doing for all other clients. Then the summer conventions just throws us all behind on a lot of stuff and eventually, everything just slumped together.

I apologize again for the lack of response once in a while. It is getting more hectic now becoz of the power outage.....

Say, isn't the Comic really coming to the US September 4 and not September 3? That's Labor day week and as long as I've been collecting comics it pushes all releases a day so the books come out on the Thursday of that week and not Wed. since everyone takes Labor Day off.

Well, that's how it is in NYC. I suggest everyone in the US check the stores both days for the book.

Hm.... maybe you are correct.... we are going by the calendar week that Diamond gave us..... but do check with your retailers to see when then will get their shipment that week.

and Zen, the instant sold out IS indeed becoz of the team effort of all of you here that makes the retailers finally realize there is a demand for this book. For the past few days, the order increase that came in has been rocketing. Unfortunately, we have to set the print run before these numbers came in, and we set the first run to be 30000, which at that time, we (Image and UDON) feel is a safe overprint number to estimate based on the initial order numbers.

That is why we decide to go second printing immediately so no one got left out. This shows that we do have a BIG team spirit here, and I have everything to thank all of you guys here for!!

To be honest, even we do not have any expectations when we go into this project, I myself, as a big SF fan, do feel that the SF fan base is potentially as big, if not bigger, than the Transformer or GI Joe fan base. So I am very confident that we can at least move numbers that are close to the TF or Joe books which are in the 60 to 70K range. Now that the orders are climbing, it tells me that I am right. With the "SF Power" that we have grouped together here in this community, I know only good thing will happen!

Thank you all! A BIG THANK YOU!

Issue 1 (Arnold Tsang and Joe Mad! Covers) should hit the comic stores Sept 3rd...... as far as I know...

The Jo Chen Power Foil Chun Li cover will be shipped about a week or 2 after becoz of the more complicated printing process of the foil.

Yay for Canada! Everyone else gets it on the Thursday because of Labor Day or something.

Picked up my #1 - solid, fun, entertaining read. Good stuff. Very consistent pencils from Alvin Lee, and Arnold Tsang's colours on Joe Mad makes me want to cry tears of joy. Seeing Joe Mad back in action - if only for like three pages - is indeed very sweet.

You'll let us Markham fans know if you're dropping in on Heroes World for a signing, right Mr. Siu-Chong? And that editorial letter thing at the end was pretty neat as well. I want to see the numbers for September, since both Transformers vs. GIJoe #1 and JLA/Avengers #1 come out this week as well.

And I like your XIN, too. Keep up the good work.

I am glad that you enjoyed the book. Arnold Tsang actually worked with Alvin Lee on the pencils and inks too of issue one! And yes, those Joe Mad pages are the gem!

Ken did a very touching editorial for #1. And I did a recap on the 3 conventions at the end of #2 with a lot of pictures.... remember to check it out!

We just came back from the Beguiling signing downtown Toronto! And wanna say thank for all the fans dropping by.

Next up will be Silver Snail on Queen Street this Sat starting at noon. We will hit Heroes World a week later on Sept 13!

See you soon!

How many did they order initially?

The second prints should go out either next week or the week after. And they are still available to be ordered. So call them up and tell them to get more!

I got my copy at the nearby comic shop, and tonight I'll pick up my Pre-Orders at me regular comic store! The Wrap around Cover already sold out at the nearby spot!

I'm so excited! Good stuff! At first, I was wondering if you guys were gonna deal with Birdie and Ryu knowing each other since they fought in SF 1, but nothing in the book implies they don't know each other so it all works out! And you changed "Hadoken" to "Hadouken!" I know Dash No Chris of MMcafe and Gamefaqs will be happy!

If you print them, I will buy them! EXCELLENT COMIC!

The comic shop I preordered I asked for 2 copies of the Tsang cover and one of the Joe Mad, but they are only allowing one of each due to the massive sales! Luckily I picked up one of each cover at the nearby spot so now I have 2 of each!

Just out of curiousity, where is Shadaloo Cammy found in the comic? It was mentioned somewhere that she's hidden in there.

Oh, and Udon: Great work in the latest issue of Dungeon Magazine;)

Wow, I just picked up 2 each of covers A and B today and I'm totally blown away. The story is great and the art is AMAZING. It looks very much like the SF3 series. Good stuff. The #0 variants were awesome and the Akuma cover is just plain sick. Good work guys, seriously. I'm not really into comics but I'm definately gonna get all the issues and variants of this one. But does anyone know where I can find/order cover C of #1? I don't see any on eBay yet and dosen't seem there are going to be any soon because of it's rarity.

m121akuma
09-04-2003, 04:42 PM
Unless I'm mistaken, C cover won't be in print until the second print of issue 1.

udoneko
09-04-2003, 04:51 PM
I was informed by the printer that the full foil printing process takes longer as they have to go thru it 4 times and wait for the special foil ink to dry and the last lamination coating takes time too. Therefore, the Foil covers will arrive in stores 2 weeks after the regular covers.

So this week, first print. Next week should have the second printing hitting the shelves. And the week afterwards, you got the foil Cover C.

That is the status report I got from the printer.

Great, thanks udoneko. Keep up the good work.

Finally a SF comic true to the game. I still can't get over the artwork. Damn. Oh, one more thing. I noticed on the #0 covers that Ross was listed as one of the artists. Is that Ross as in Alex Ross? I figured the Akuma cover looked like it was painted by him. If so, will he be involved in any future projects? His work is nothing short of amazing and I would definately buy a few copies of his stuff, especially if it's SF related.

That is actually Rob Ross, Alvin's inker on Agent X who helped out on inking. We would certainly like to have the great Alex Ross doing some stuff. I have been bugging Alex for quite some time now but he has a super packed schedule for now...

The Akuma cover is by Arnold Tsang.

Chun Li's also kicking around in the background during the restaurant scene too.

Udon did a good job on this. It's really lovely and I'm dying to see some longer fight scene's. Dug the bit with Guile fixing his hair too. I'm not a Joe Mad. fan, but I have to admit that he did a pretty good job on the back up story. I also dug the one page comedy strip too..heh..it's funny because it's true!

I picked up SF #1 yesterday, and I must say......IT WAS AWESOME. There are so many things done *right* in this comic, I don't know where to begin.

*WARNING SPOILER*

Some touches I noticed that I really appreciated:

-the dogs sniffing Ryu and "sensing" his power
-Guile was amazing. I didn't even like the character before, but he's just too sweet in this comic to not like. He does standing flash kick!
-Birdie was a great touch
-Chun-Li's moves actually looking like what they do in the games.
-The little mini-comic at the end (the broken stick one) was really funny.

*END SPOILER*

I was just totally blown away by this book. It's everything that I could have asked for in a SF comic. Great job guys, you've really outdid yourselves.

I'm also pleased to report that my local comic store has *completely* sold out of the comics long before they were released. The guys that worked there almost didn't believe me when I told them that prelminary sales haven't been that good. They are absolutely selling like crazy here.

Once again, great job and I'm sure sales will pick up once word-of-mouth starts spreading. I can't thank you enough for getting me excited about comics again.

I eagerly anticipate the next installment.

Well I got mine recently (around noon yesterday) and gotta say that I absolutely love it.

Udoneko -

Aside from the standard issue, I'd like to keep seeing

- The following issues covers (that was a nice touch)
- 2 back up stories (one serious and one funny, just like #1)

Things you could add

- A letters page (ie fan mail)
- A fan art page, or something like a pin up from a fan/diffrient artist each month.

Although I was wondering, why wasnt the Ken powerfoil cover shown in the section of the SF#2 covers?

Also that GAIA add was really a nice touch, Im sure everyone on Gaia who picked up the issue loved seeing that.

By the way, there are minor errors in the portrayal of the moves there. Well, these are just monor stuff, but these can still be improved.

1. When Ryu does the Shoryuken, his arms should be straight (not bended on the elbow).

2. Guile's flash kick arc faces the horizontal direction, and not the vertical upward direction.

1) The comic rules...I was very impressed with the handling of the characters were handled...impressive art...Alvin Lee is fantastic...and of course Joe Mad is GOD!

2) to the UDON people...I wouldn't worry about the initial orders...because all of the comic people now that they have seen how quickly the 1st issue sold out...they will order a lot more of issue 2 or 3...

3) Keep up the good work and lets keep this thing going...it just might redeem SF story in the US.

Any chance that a TPB will eventually appear?

This series looks great. They really captured the Capcom house style perfectly.

Just wanted to say that I saw one of the comics while over a friend's house yesterday, and it looked top notch.

Keep up the good work. I wish you great success in your endeavor.

I just picked up a copy of issue #1 today. The comic store I go to receieves their shipments of comics on Wednesdays, since most (if not all) new comics are released on Wednesdays. Anyways, I got there at around 3:00pm, and there were only 4 copies left. I didn't even get a copy of the 50-character wraparound. Hopefully I can snag one next week.

Furthermore, my store allows you to put items on hold. BBCampbell, maybe you can get a copy on reserve?

I found it! I finally found it!

It took me a bit of a drive, but I found it!!!:D :D :D

And now... let the speculation begin...

BTW, using the classic SFII poster image as a cover basis for issue 2: Nice. :)

SPOILERS

- Charlie's dogtags say "Charlie Nash". Does this mean that his name is Charlie Nash in the series? (I actually prefer Charlie Nash, but I know it isn't canon.)

- So far, the story seems to have influences from the Street Fighter II anime.

- Actual SF basic attacks and Guile combing his hair. Nice touch.

- Apparently in this continuity, Bison organized the first Street Fighter tourney, am I right?

- "(when some guy with red hair makes his debut)" Adon or Blanka? Both look like they have orange hair to me...

Actually, no it's not. It's Charlie here, and Nash in Japan. Just like it's Vega here, and Balrog in Japan.

I will be going to my comic store on Wednesday. The clerk there said they should have more issues coming in next week. However, he didn't know if they would have any copies of the foil special cover. I think for 10 copies a store orders, they get 1 foil cover issue. Anyone have luck snagging one of the foil covers?

Oh yeah. I think I probably caught most of the stuff that's "hidden" in the issue. I'm thinking of opening a SF comic spoiler/speculation thread in the Fan Fiction forums...

In fact, I'll probably do so at some point today.

Watch for it... :) :D

I think the first issue was pretty good. The artwork was very good and the pacing of the story felt perfect for the source material.

The only problem I have with the series as a whole are the covers, which seem either incorrectly utilized, unimaginative or a little "clunky" and overdone. Other than that, great book. I hope this series goes on for a long time.

I just got back from the store, and there were no foil issues. They had a ton of the wrap-around and the 4-character issues, but no foil. I feel robbed and cheated at the same time.

I just picked up the Megaman comic. What utter crap. The inking was bad and the drawing was sloppy. They had the nerve to say Monstropolis changed to Metro City, Megaman's Rock named changed to Rocky, the public doesn't know he's an Andriod, Megaman can fly and he's going to a High School with a love interest well in place as if this was Astro Boy the Teen Years or something! It really hurts because before I was a Street Fighter Fanatic I was a Megaman Fanatic and the comic adaptation is even worse than the American cartoon. That being said I'm really glad Studio Udon has the rights to Street Fighter and I'm now very scared of how Dreamwave will screw up Darkstalkers, Rival Schools and the other Capcom licenses.

I will not comment on other's take on popular Capcom properties. What UDON is promising the SF fans out there is a comic that will capture the essence of the Street Fighter game that everyone comes to love. We are doing a SF comic afterall, not a comic with characters with SF names in but the fans cannot relate to. In my opinion, that is why most license properties failed to succeed. The creators want to "re-create" something that is so great to begin with...
