Hey

My name is Ben. I goto Waterloo 2nd year as well. I have probably played a few of you in Marvel before, if not Jitz or 3s. The only person I know by name and face is Ed, who I've had some good games with.

Anyways, I think I read in previous posts, that someone was familiarizing themselves with Toronto competition to try and get a feel for how good they are. Well, I used to play a bit with the TOSF crowd, back when MTL, and Jersey came to Toronto to play, and I placed 9th at T2, so I sort of know how good they are.

If you're interested, here's a lil info. I haven't played with the main guys in Toronto in a long time, but when I played with them 2 years ago, they were better than the players I've seen in Waterloo today. Having traded a few games with Ed here and there, he's probably one of the funnest guys to play, because he doesn't pull out anal lame styles with cable, capcom, or other so-called jump back hp, or runaway storm tactics (I really don't give two damns, it just ain't as fun that's all, but i guess winning is winning). Having played Ed a bit, if I could make a comparison between Ed's skill to the Toronto players' skills, I think he could have been top 10 in toronto 2 years ago. However, I think if anyone has given a damn about MVC2 in toronto in the past two years, then I'm not too sure how great he'd do now. and in terms of worldwide, I'm pretty sure we suck. I remember the one guy in toronto that I've never beat (jonstar), and he got raped in a philly tournament. the winner of t3 i think placed 16th in some new york tourney.

Anyways, I hate MvC2, but I still play occasionally when I come by to visit Marc. If you see Ed or Marc, tell them Ben says hi. I'm sure they'll let you know who I am, and how much I suck.

Oh, there's this guy named Kymah who goes to 'loo who was in the toronto crew, and used to own at CvS2. I doubt we have any competition better than him in 'loo, though he may have graduated.

Marc says we can have event mode without having to pay extra money to call the tech down, if we arrange something during their weekly money collection trip.

Mike thinks there's no point in having a tournament. And he might be right... UNLESS it's possible to coerce people from the GTA to make the trip down.

To put the trip into perspective: from EMTC, Waterloo is only about 10-15 mins farther than Orbit.

Noodleman, your Ironman is top tier. In terms of team dynamics, you should burn some of that meter you build up. I think I counted 6 or 7 games that ended with you still having 5 super bars. Framekill from Mags to IM (Tempest XX Proton Cannon) is even faster than AHVB... you can abuse it lots with the amount of meter you had. Plus, any time you get to 5 bars with your team, random HyperGrav XX Tempests can surprise people (especially dumb people like Mike and I).

Frame killing is only as good as your timing is. Sure, it CAN be faster than AHVB by one frame... but that's only if your timing is perfect. Basically, you need to be able to DHC as soon as the super animation for tempest ends so that you can get the one frame Proton Canon. That's pretty hard, and still only gives you the advantage by 1 frame over AHVB.

As for meter killing, I would have to say that Magneto/IM/Psy (which I believe is Jason's team) is terrible for burning meter. It can easily gain meter, but IM is not the person you want to be spending that meter with. That's one reason I feel Mag/IM/Psy is a very weak team. However, if you made your team Magneto/Meter Burner/IM, that would be a solid team.

I'm current trying to squeeze a meter burner like sent or storm into the team...but it's so hard to train with sent, and i find storm really hard to control (mainly cause you can control her jumps)!

Why don't you just go back to cable like when you were in school. Practice alpha counter -> AHVB and you would own. Its not like you need Psy to set up infinites anymore.

I compared framekill to AHVB to show that it's fast. I didn’t mean for it to be used to BEAT OUT an AHVB (theoretically possible, but haven’t seen anyone try it). I personally don’t like MIP either... but Noodleman played it almost every game. Which means, for one reason or another, he likes that team. I've given up on trying to convince people to change their teams... it never works. Teams only change with experience (repeated rape). So, given that he's not changing his team, and given that he had SO much meter... I was just suggesting that he burn some of it (safely, if done right) so that at least maybe he's getting lucky a few times and then building more meter again - rather than die clutching 5 bars the whole game.

Thanks for the props guys, but i still need alot of training...but i'm too lazy to train...haha, too busy playing Disgaea =p

I like psy mainly to set up combos, buy yea, i should switch her out wiht cable or something (maybe storm, but i think mags REALLy need a good AAA, not that slow ass stuff IM has) Though experimenting with Mags/IM/Cable or Mags/IM/Sent wouldn't be a bad idea. but then again, cable is pretty bad at dhc, so i'll probrably try sent.

One of the biggest reasons i don't switch teams is that there's no mvc2 comp in brampton, gerjay and mike should know that i'm probrably the best mvc2 player in brampton, and pretty much the bottom of hte barrel when put together with all the mvc2 players around the gta.

When magneto says tempest... mash. This is also the same time the hyper grav touches you. Wiggle joystick a lot (makes more difference than buttons do).


As for Mag/IM/Sent, that is by far the best team with IM on it IMO. I would use Sent-A with that team, although you need a good Sent for when you eventually have to play with him... What am I saying, start playing Sentinel now. Think of sentinel as A-Bison, or K-Blanka, or C-Sagat or any of those necessities in CvS2. Really, Sentinel should be the backbone of any good team IMO.

That's what I'm saying. You have a setup 2 mins from Cove where all the buttons work and it's free play all you want against solid competition.

If you want to practice hard, then Cove isn't the place to do it. You get limited by money, or who's there, or how long the buttons work before they break again.

Waterloo Math and Engineering programs don't allow for that shit. Unless you are a genius. Even then unless you can do those endless stream of assignments using bullet time, you ain't doing much partying. I've been there, I know.

If I remember correctly you are the guy that had your hair in a pony tail at T4? You can find the Cove on the basement level of the Student Life Centre. Anyone on campus can tell you where the SLC is. Just a note, if you play CvS2, you will be dissapointed, there is no machine here.

I just picked up a new spindle of CD's so getting your stuff together should be a snap. It should be noted that I woudln't be coming until Sunday (when we're returning) rather than Saturday (where we already have to be there for 2:00pm and detours aren't really an option).

I really don't have much else to say on the matter with Mike. He and I had our own discussion, we agreed to stay out of each other's business and he apologized for taking a personal shot at me (which is the only reason I got so pissed to begin with because flames are just flames). I consider the matter closed unless re-opened upon which there will be no acceptance of any apology and I will bring down the pain.

Sadly, coupled with the fact we're not going to be in Waterloo on the way up, I've already give the spot to Antoine (AneurismX) from TOSF so Yuhin is SOL on this one.

Well I wasn't in town for Christmas. As Mike, Yuhin etc knew I wouldn't be for a while before the tourney.

Most of the rest of Team Waterloo all said they wouldn't be able to make it in advance as well. I think Ed tried to go, but couldnt pull it off.

Something that's kinda hard to understand until you're in the situation.. we're actually away from our families at school for a long time. So when we come home for the holidays, it's kinda hard to explain why you're leaving for a whole day to play video games (at least for me). You feel kinda obligated to do family stuff :bluu: .. hard to get out of.

It's not a matter of readiness.. it's a matter of opportunity. I play Marvin at Orbit at least once a week, so it's not like I'm not around to play. You and I just arent at the same arcade at the same time Matt. But I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later.

If Clayton or Ed are up for that console tourney, then work/biz permitting I'd really like to go.

Haha Gerjay I remember that. I just started playing and you were the first good Marvel player I faced. I got my ass handed to me. But like always I learned a shitload from it.

Teddy, I think you're asking how Waterloo players rank. Well there's a guy named Ed who's a fucking monster. Against me at least, he makes me feel like I'm playing Justin Wong or something. I can't do ANYTHING. Even though I've played Jonstar and JS etc, and yeah they're fucking good... no one has been able to replicate the feeling of sheer helplessness that Ed dishes out. Maybe he just knows how to play me that well.. but he's the best in Waterloo by far. After that, there's the second tier: Clayton (bakchoi), Fuzz, Henry, fob storm guy, and me who all trade games and are hard to put in order. Then there are the Sauga/Oakville fake-Waterloo guys like Yuhin and Mike.. haha :p So just from what I hear, I think you and Bry need to play Ed. And that set of second tier guys need to play Gerjay, Matt, James etc.

Hope that helps.. I know it's gay just knowing everyone by SRK name and not by skill.

Henry can't play anymore. Too out of practice. Runaway fob guy beats him all the time. He has reduced to my low level of play now. Just play any type of trap team and you can beat Henry.

Hehe sorry Gerjay. As I said.. it was just from what I heard. Blame Mike, not me. :) He talks a lot about Teddy, but not you. And Bry.. well Bry needs no introduction it seems. That's why I put them against Ed. Plus, you and I need a rematch. :p

Teddy, you'll find that Waterloo guys arent the typical guys you'll find in arcades. We dont respond to trash talk or call outs and such. We'll just sit there and say no thanks and not get worked up.
