I need some EX3 help. See if anyone can come up with a combo that:
Only uses 1 level
Does not involve partners/tags
Does at least 90 damage (default damage)

I can't get this with the following people:

Zangief- Russian Slam won't combo after either momentary in the air so I am out of ideas
Guile- I guess it's jHeavy, dMP, Sonic Boom, K Momentary, Double Flash Kick but canceling the momentary into the super is tricky
Garuda- 89 is as high as I can go
Hokuto- no idea
Kairi- Only to about 80

In normal damage? well, I play in low damage but try this:

Sagat: J.HP, C.MP, S.MK, (LP) Tiger Blow, Momentary P, Tiger Genocide (some hits fail), S.MK, Tiger Blow...

Ken: J.HP cancel into Tatsumaki Sempukyaku in the air, C.MP, C.MK, Hadouken, Momentary K, Shinryuken...

Ace: J.HP, C.MP, C.LK, Shoot Kick + back K, Fairy Gift (press rapidly LP + MP in the same time)

Chun-Li: J.HP, S.HP, C.MK, Senretsu Kyaku (I'm not sure for this but try it)

At the moment I can't test the combos but here are some ideas.

Gief: Cross up splash, s.hk, s.mk, super stomp, cancel, c.mk, ppp lariat, k.momentary, p.momentary

Guile: j.hp, c.mp, s.mp, hp.sonic boom, double flash (you could try to tack on a normal after the sonic boom into the double flash, and if the range is a bit far then the openning gambit should be ok).

Garuda: spiked shell move, s.mp, raizan, p.momentary, k.momentary, keinshu

Hokuto: crossup j.mk, c.mp, c.mp, lp.elbow dash, lk.momentary, fan super should yield the most damage :-\

Kairi: if the basic combo of j.hp, c.mk, tatsu maki (x2), dive, c.mk, Tatsu maki (x3), ground super doesn't do it, you can try a modified version of that as
j.hp, c.mk, tatsumaki (x2), c.mk, fireball, hk.momentary, tatsumaki (x2), ground super

of course you should probably add a surprise blow, but that defeats the purpose of the challenge

You can add a Hard Attack at the beginning of the combo too...

I charge the Somersault Kick in the moment that I connect the S.HP, just before of the C.LK...

the standing hp only lasts like 36 frames, with a 2 frame link window for the c.lk. Then another 5 frames for the s.lk to hit, 3 frame hit delay, so 46 with a 7 frame allowance for special move cancels after hit. Yea I suppose its possible.

on a consistent basis no, is less consistent is being able to get that double knee press to come out after a kick throw.

However I've had luck either holding back with turns into forward as Bison turns around, or holding back, and letting go briefly as bison turns around and press back again (which is now forward) along with punch.

The Guile combo I got to work was j.Heavy, d.MP, SB, K momentary, double flash kick. The momentary to super is workable after practice.

I didn't know Garuda could link d.MK after s.HK. I found the s.MP after the spikey turtle a very difficult link.

No that won't work, in my Bison throw video, I went through it all. the psycho crusher misses, and the opponent is too high in the air for the psycho cannon to hit, even a k.momentary misses.

If it had been Bison 2, then it would have worked.

Though perhaps I should have tried every character weight, oh well.

Donkus, some tips on the video playback, first goto your codec settings and turn off "post processing", next set you're player on "loop upon finishing" and let it play through a couple times, it should play smoother with each play through. And lastly you could decrease the view screen, aka 50% instead of 100%.

If you're still having problems I can convert the video to a less demanding mpeg file for ya.

BTW a-cho hasn't released the videos for EX2+ :(, however when they do win recorder 11 works great. install the program and have that running in the background, then click on the link from a-chos site and it'll load the asx file into win recorder automaticly and then start downloading the wmv files that they have embedded in the asx. so you havea working, searchable wmv file to play whenever you want.

The Vulcanus (qcb + P) is poor in EX3 and Garuda's Kizan is much better than EX1 and EX2...

For the tournaments. I talked to Juicy G about MWC, he says that if he has time he would permit a side SFEX3 tournament. So heres hoping that it goes through.

I also talked to some tennesse players that were thinking of attending FRX this year. They said that they might be willing to bring a TV for use for the tournament, so then it should be possible to run the side tournament at FRX. All that I need to accomplish on my part is to buy a cheap laptop so I can run the brackets, and bring my PS2, SFEX3 and a VCR to record the matches, also somehow raise 1000 lol.

Do her throw where she chokes you and then elbows you to the ground, upon landing do a mk.sempu kyaku.

If done correctly the opponent will have to block the other way (actually it'll miss as the opponent will move slightly before they actually block), if timed a few frames later, they have to block it the regular way. So depending on your timing you can get them off guard with it.

the same kinda crossover can be done with volcano rosso as well....just do the one qcb punch move when up close to an opponent on the ground....then do the qcf kick move to zoom past him.....if you catch them off guard you can punish them afterwards....

Better than your spelling, that's for damn sure. Anyhow, EX is really a game that is a love or hate to the SF community. Either you'll love it unconditionally or you will try to condemn it and will see yourself coming back to the series like a boomerang.

Unfortunately that Blanka cross-up is just one of those things you have to condition yourself to, meaning you have to get punished by it a lot in order to eventually defend against it. In any case though it's almost a lose lose situation as even if you block it the right way they can always P momentray out of it depending on how shallow they it, which is more often than not. Also depending on how ahead/behind I am in the match I might try a random super to catch it.

With how occassionally that they have EX2+ at a-cho I can't really say for sure.

Some guesses would be the fact that it has more of an "alpha" and/or "cvs" feel to it with excels.

Also since their arcade scene is still alive, the fact that EX2+ was the last arcade EX game probably may be of influence too.

Well, the truth is that I play without strategy, simply I do it with intelligence and aggressiveness, also it depends on that so good is my opponent, I try to not lose opportunities to do combos too, though sometimes I could fail...

in EX2? well... use the excel just in the moment that Sharon use her super, it works like the change of EX3 and besides can be done in the air...

Well let's see...

- You can choose Kairi in the Japanese version in the site where you choose random in the American version (the cursor must be on Zangief, then move diagonal down + left)

- The Kairi's scratch is totally random, you must try it with the flames in his hands...

- Well with Sharon... try de Shuttle Combination then cancel into a Sharon Special, you can see that Sharon sometimes fail...

- If you do the Indra Bashi of Darun more rapidly is possible that it doesn't connect well...

- Pullum and Blanka speak for themselves, same with Vega and his Psycho Crusher and the Psycho Break Smasher (Meteor Combo)

- The "race" lol... of Blankas is simply press the KKK repeatedly + the select button using two players, in this case... Messatsu and me...

- The Guile "teleport" is a fault in a copy of EX3 that I have, when I press f + LK or KKK, Guile disappears and it seemed that it was a strange teleport move...

- Hokuto's leg is something that happened without apparent explanation =/

- The Great Tiger Storm is only when you connect this attack on two characters...

- "Where is Nanase?"... well, another thing that happened without explanation, after beating Ace, she didn't appear...

- If you do a Fairy Gift and this attack doesn't connect well, Ace falls down and doesn't get up for a moment...

- If the opponent moves a bit, the Giga Gladiator of Ace might not connect well...

The rest of the things you can realize without explanation and some photos were taken to do the video more funny =)

No, you need the japanese version only to choose Kairi in the space of the random select, I'm sure that the rest can does it in the american version too...

The Guile teleport you will never be able to do it by the fact that it's a mistake in one of my copies, only if I give you the image (ISO) of the game you might do it...

well before you, it was just me. posting any small quirks that I might find.

For playing online with me... there isn't any Ps2 emulator that supports net play so thats out.

So all that would be left is mame32 hack or ePSXe, both of which lag, so it wouldn't even be the same. Most combos, execution, reactionary tactics are all thrown out the window.

The key to the lightning kick infinite is to end the lightning kick on a specific attack. Because the recovery varies depending on which attack of the lightning kick hits last. If done correctly, you'll have enough time to link the following normal attack and then combo that into another lightning kick.

Depending on which set up he goes with, there is normally a way or two out of it. Typically, walking straight back would allow you to block his jumpin. Though if you have meter you could use a super that either advances you character, or puts you in the air (super hurrican kick).

I guess to understand this, you need to have been there when SFEX3 was released. There was a big fad for tagging, with Tekken and stuff leading the way. I guess that in some way, they made EX3 a tag game (1) to try to compete with TTT, and (2) just to show off the high poly count of the (new) PS2.

Ok, back from FRX. I got like 3-4 hours of EX3 recorded. Just hopefully the VCR and tape survived the plane flight back (my laptop and VCR were ruined by the time I got to FRX, so I had to buy a new VCR, and the Laptop was a loss).

Ok, back from FRX. I got like 3-4 hours of EX3 recorded. Just hopefully the VCR and tape survived the plane flight back (my laptop and VCR were ruined by the time I got to FRX, so I had to buy a new VCR, and the Laptop was a loss).

I didn't get a chance to actually throw a SFEX tournament, but casuals are good too.

Me too. I'm also eager to see your high level EX2 matches you mentioned. They must be extraordinary since you said they will better than the a-cho matches posted earlier. High level EX2 play with no excels....I imagine it's something like high level 3S with no parrying, or high level CvS2 with no supers or CCs? Sounds ground breaking to say the least.

so ive been watching the A-cho matches with sf ex2 and ive noticed noone uses the old characters like, ryu, ken, chuners, guile, dhalsim, etc etc, is there any reason for this? i dont play this game competitively but dhalsim to me seems pretty good in it. :S

For this release though, the first match is a money match IIRC, then a couple 4 player matches until I start playing (pullum and D.dark team on player 2 side). I then had 4 matches against AlphaKami, and then 7 matches against his friend.

Vulcano Rosso & Garuda is the best team here...

A good combo with this team:

Rosso: J.HP or HK, C.MP, C.MK, qcf + P, change, C.MK, qcf + P, qcb qcb + K, then with Garuda: J.HP or HK, C.MK, qcf + P, momentary K, momentary P, qcb qcb + P...

The second team can be Garuda and Satsui No Hadou Ryu, but Skullomania and Shadow Geist is a good team too...

His teleport sucks, the best of Satsui No Hadou Ryu is that he have more moves than Ryu...

the nanase one was something that mikez said that he got the camera to mess up and it wouldn't show either character (opponent or tagged in) for 10 seconds. Though 1-2 seconds is about as much as I can get (until they're back on the regular battle field).

I never played EX3 before, but it looks really cool, the way you tag in characters and do team up combo's.

I just wanted to say that I think EX is a very worthy addition to Streetfighter and that the training mode is actually a pretty good tutorial that teaches you more about what you can do in other Streetfighter games. (Though the combo's are a lot easier in comparison of course and you can't use most of them in games like SF2, but it explains the basics very well, you know?) I actually learned about cross overs and link combo's (And probably some other stuff I'm forgetting right now) by having to try and figure out how to do some of those combo's in the training mode.
And it's a lot of fun too! Though it could have looked nicer... not in terms of poly-count or anything like that, just better in-game designs. Some of the best portait art of all of the Streetfighter games though, I'll give them that much! (Next VS game should definitely have one of the EX characters in 2d.)

- Ace is only God Tier based on his skill dependent attributes. He can have any move, including previous/ex fighter's moves(Blaire Dame's stuff including her Fighting Layer moves.). If he doesn't have the right moves, or you don't know how to use them, he'll just lose.

Except that SFEX3 isn't really a 3-D fighter at all.
There's no sidestep, and all of the gameplay is classic 2D SF style.
The exact plane doesn't even come into play unless there's 3 or more characters on the screen AND somebody does a screen-shifting super.
