Jester used kairi and rosso a lot too, especially against good opponents lol
Well I did not know that since the amount of match vids for ex3 is really small in number, although I will admit I haven't really gone on youtube looking for vids.

I think we went over this but does Capcom have rights over any of the non SF characters in SFEX, like Kairi,Skullo,Hayate..any of them? Becuase I know Arika owns Blair and Allen becuase they were in Fighting Layer. But Skullo,Hayate,Hokuto,D.Dark,& Pullum appear in Capcom's "Capcom Design Works" Artbook.

As far as I know, they only exist in the SFEX series itself. And no other. So ARIKA can not put them in a new game or anything unless both Capcom and ARIKA decide to make another SFEX game.

Well met, sir @ Sakura death...
...that went well.
Return of Shiki

God Tier:
Kairi
Evil Ryu
*Ace
Top Tier:
Rosso
Dhalsim
Garuda - only here due to his CP
Shadow
Bison
D. Dark
Area
Ryu
Guile
Middle Tier:
Ken
Blanka
Zangief
Darun
Chun Li
Skullomania
Pullum
Sharon - borders on bottom tier depending on opponent
Sagat
Hokuto
C. Jack
Bottom Tier:
Nanase
Vega
Sakura
I dunno, what do you guys think about these tiers. Based on Kyousuke's videos, I 'd say Sharon, Sagat, and Nanase are better than that.
I dunno, but I think that this game has pretty balanced tiers, like Virtua Fighter and Vampire Savior.
By that I mean...some characters are definitely better than others, but no one is really useless. Worst character in the game is probably Vega because they messed him up making him SOOOOO much slower than he's supposed to be, but even he still has some stuff.

On one hand you have to think. How many people made up these tiers? From NA, its based on their matches and formerly tournaments back several years ago. But that group at its best consisted of what? 10 players at most.
And they stuck with what worked. While I'd be the first to admit that senseis nanase was annoying (played him a couple times a few years ago), was it on par with Kyosuke's? I can't say.
Can you name Nanase's Strengths? Or Sharons? Or Sagats?
For sagat, you have to think, what does he have to make him above ryu? AA? No, Ryu likely has more invincibility frames, plus his timing for a shoryuken XX shinku tatsumaki loop is ore reliable than Sagats Tiger Blow XX Tiger Genocide loop (which pretty much ends with that, and as soon as they get to the corner).
A super quick Tiger Cannon? Most of the time, you can see it coming and block, and unless your stuck in a projectile recovery you're safe (but same can be said with Shinku Hadouken).
But yea, this game mid tiers play evenly with high tiers. And most of these tiers are based on options. Which is again why I asked, what Nanase or Sharon had that could compete with a top teir character?

alright you pig fuckers I don't like you and you don't like me j/k lol
But DreamTR has promised to throw an EX tournament, and this year at Evo North he's throwing an arcade SFEX2+ tournament. He won't budge on console, arcade only, so EX2+ it's gotta be.
I want all of ya'll to make it out and give this thang a good turn out.

You're definitely right, I don't agree with this list...

Yeah, this game is very balanced, and of course there are better characters than others...
Worst character in the game is probably Vega because they messed him up making him SOOOOO much slower than he's supposed to be, but even he still has some stuff
You mean Balrog?, well I like Balrog, I only miss his PPP Back Slash...
And they stuck with what worked. While I'd be the first to admit that senseis nanase was annoying (played him a couple times a few years ago), was it on par with Kyosuke's? I can't say.
My Nanase is the best Nanase in the world, you know >.>

Nanase can compete with any character and can do it without problems like in my videos, and Sharon too...

Yeah, I suppose Ryu's Tatsumaki (plus Air Shinkuu Tatsumaki) gives him a lot more options (and safety) than Sagat.
Sagat just does big damage. Tiger Genocide is one of the most damaging Level 1 Supers and can combo off just about anything. Tiger CHOW is unbelievably fast and can punish just about anything from any range (though it doesn't do that much damage). Tiger RAPE is about the same as Tiger Genocide but with a little less damage and better range, so it's better at linking off of pokes.
Less invincible frames than Ryu, yes to be sure...but Sagat makes up for it with better range and more power. I don't know if it makes him better than Ryu, but he's still pretty good.

Wouldn't Chun be Top Tier because of her momentary, infinite, close range normals and damage taking? or did her crouching HK lose priority from EX?
...that went well.

Crouch HK is ok, not sure how godly it was in the other EXs. Her infinite is pretty tough, outside of combo vids I've only looped maybe 3 times in an actual match. Aces infinite on the other hand.
Sharon is ranked low simply because she doesn't have too many options. Once you get around the cross up MK mix ups her other stuff has too many gaps in it......momentaries and change ups from her specials can be seen easily. If they had closed the gaps on some of her moves then she'd probably be tops.
Again, middle tier isn't saying they are useless, just the win/loss ratio for them isn't as good as the tops, they simply have too many bad matches where the others have only 1 or 2. Same for Sagat, all the tops I listed won't have an uphill battle against him.
I suppose the list could use an update, but I doubt the changes would be that signifigant. You also have to take into account how some of these characters do without a partner, or more importantly a specific partner.
JackTenrac!
04-11-2007, 09:06 AM
I understand that. Just surprised at this tier list. Sorry that I put too much faith into her normal's range. Li's normals seem to do that.

Yeah, I suppose Ryu's Tatsmuckin' poo-kick (plus Air Shinkuu Tatsmuckin' poo-kick gives him a lot more options (and safety) than Sagat.
Sagat just does big damage. HIGHER GASLINE is one of the most damaging Level 1 Supers and can combo off just about anything. Tyguh CHOW is unbelievably fast and can punish just about anything from any range (though it doesn't do that much damage). EYEGUR RAY is about the same as HIGHER GASLINE but with a little less damage and better range, so it's better at linking off of pokes.
Fixed it with the correct character sounds.
Sagat also had the nice property of causing good damage in fireball wars since jumping over a fireball forces the opponent to eat a super fireball. But as far as I know he has never had any way to force the opponent to stay at long range.

ok, getting ready for MWC. However I did mess with the vega CP to throw with shadowgeist doing his aerial skullo dream.
However Vegas follow up to the scarlet terror did not land. Why? Best I can reason is the difference between the skullo dream and giefs aerial slam.
The only difference that I see, is that during the aerial slam, the characters are not frozen so Vega is allowed to finish his scarlet terror move so by the time the aerial slam is finished vega is already in the air.
However with the skullo Dream, the characters are frozen, so when the skullo dream ends, Vega is still recovering from his scarlet terror move and isn't even in the air yet. and by the time he takes to the air, the opponent has already stood up.
So the follow up doesn't land.
Of course you may be asking why don't you wait for the skullo dream until the scarlet terror is finished. The answer for that is that by the time the scarlet terror finishes, the opponent has been launched above the lifebars and Shadowgeist can't jump that high lol.
I'll upload the clip soon, but the transcript for now is as follows
Vega: c.hk, meaty s.hk, s.hp, critical parade
Shadowgeist: s.mp, head stomp, jump
Vega: scarlet terror, follow up
Shadowgeist: Aerial Skullo Dream (try to finish the motions for the follow up annd skullo dream at the same time).

Thanks, does anyone know of any good excel combos for Guile ( SFEX2 )?
I'm not very good with him, and it seems difficult to execute those anti-air excels which makes use of his crouching MP, HK and flash kick especially on those smaller characters like Area and maybe Sharon. Would be great if someone could post what kind of excels (input list please:sweat: ) they use here. Both ground and anti-air excels, thanks:)

Vid time
http://www.streetfighterex.info/sfex3/video/matches/FRXtape1part2.mpg
uploading part 1, and still have to record the 2nd tape (rerecord it that is).
I've got the method of recording down, so the 2nd tape should be better quality with audio sync.
For this release though, the first match is a money match IIRC, then a couple 4 player matches until I start playing (pullum and D.dark team on player 2 side). I then had 4 matches against AlphaKami, and then 7 matches against his friend.
hey shinji, i know am a little late to comment but here goes anyway. I'm only going to comment on the D. Dark matches as that is one of my main characters.
- against chunli (and area) you might not want to use the c.jab, wire, momentary P after a successful dark hold, it just doesn't work on them. second, the jump back RH to whatever only works on chunli (and area) if you hit it early, otherwise don't bother. also, c.forward, dark wire has a tendancy to miss on either if you cought them blocking low. overall, your best bet is dark hold, explosive, momentary P, super...
D. Dark = character specific, there are also little quirks (mostly timing) when playing agianst heavy characters like zangief as well.
-against guile, from what i've experienced playing sensei, guile is just a tough BASTERED to crack! if you're not using a character that has a projectile and or a projectile super, your best bet is to use the change invinsibility frames to get a heads up (some reversals work too). when guile puts the pressure, HE PUTS THE PRESSURE!!!
otherwise GOOD stuff man, keep it up!

Anyone have good excels for D.Dark and V.Rosso? Ground excels that is.
I can't seem to do a good one for Dark, need an excel for punishing opponents who try to poke with c mk from a distance. I've seen people use his standing mk in excels to close the gap but don't know the combo...
Same goes for Rosso, its seems that if you excel from a distance you need his qcf+lk move to close the gap and continue the combo.
If anyone could help me with these i would be grateful, thanks!

it's the psycho cannon man! it's the only way i could have gotten an inch on your guile... my ONLY and i mean ONLY opening was the somtimes predictable sonic boom that comes out after a string of guile's many high priority normals and special nomals. I'd pretty much kill the sonic boom with a psycho cannon, otherwise it was an uphill battle for me without a super stocked and ready to go.
I can't say the same about your zangief though, i had fun playing him... with an explosive on the ground, kill wire and standing roundhouse at my disposal, life was good for D. Dark. it's a BAD match up man!!! hehehehehehehe lol
hey shinji, i've been meaning to ask you, in a combo vid on youtube, i noticed you got dark doing a standing forward to explosive, does that work all the time for you? if it does, any particular requirement? i can't get it to hit consistently.

"ya gotta get it close and quick."
Thanks dude, i was woundering about that.
hey shinji, i just watched that first part of the tape. you seem to use a lot of explosive traps but you miss a lot of them... the thing is your spacing is sometimes off. depending on where you land after a successful knock down you gotta figure out whether you're far enough for a kara explosive or a normal one. If you kara (LK) explosive and you're too close the bomb drops to far behind and it doesn't explode where you want it to. also, i found that LK explosive works best for this situation.
finally, if you're using the momentary P set up, why not go for the most damaging more reliable setup while doing it (dark hold, explosive, momentary HP), you still land directly in front of them and have a chance to kara explosive.
just a thought dude...
ShinjiGohan

well with the kara, depending on when you kara explosive, it will vary the distance that you've traveled forward. The sooner you kara cancel the less distance traveled.
and I'm still working on the timing of explosive, hp. momentary. I got it a couple times but missed on others -shrugs-

hmm, makes sense!
I was playing a friend today and managed to pull off that cross up trap like half the match. most of the time he didn't know which way to block! that shit gets mad confusing when you vary the kara with the normal... you actually don't even have to hit the cross up LK.

Shinji, I manged to get a few hours into tonight, shook the rust off Kairi/Rosso and Rosso/Pullum the most. The Pullum/Rosso semi-unblockable took some work to get back, but it's there once again. :bgrin: I think that Rosso/Area one might be unblockable as well depending on when the cross up MK actually hits during the blocked super.
Gen......you still playing 3S? I wanted to try my low tier line up against your Makoto.

you mean for the juggle after death blade???
From the positioning on it, that'd be my guess. Though as you'd remember the explosive, hp.momentary, deathblade allows that as well from midscreen.
though since I'm pretty sure that it really depends on the height that the character is at compared to you, something basic like c.lp, s.hk might work too (assuming the timings right so you hit the deathblade while the character is in that certain spot in the air).
For the missing post, according to forum annoucements, they did a system restore so many posts, pms and such were erased.

hey shinji, what exactly is going on with that Dark explosive trap??? I mean, why is it so tricky to block or get out of? seriously, how are you to block when you're caught in it?
ShinjiGohan
04-29-2007, 11:56 PM
as I said before the kara changes the amount that you are moved forward.
So knowing this, if you are too fast you won't cross them up at all and land in front, a couple frames later and you're behind them.
The opponent can never exactly pin down whether you'll land in front or in back, so they have to worry about blocking the cross up.
On top of that there is also that explosive on the ground. So the opponent will wonder if they should block the cross up, or the explosive. But with the explosive either on top of them or behind them, they can't really move without cause it to explode. Though they can try to reverse out of it. but if they mess up the reversal then they'll get hit by the explosive. I guess tagging through it may work too.

got a chance to try that ender out and i must say, the timing and what version of the knee press to use is tricky when doing it mid screen (depending on how early or late the kara psycho cannon hits), but it's definitely practical in a match. VERY COOL!

for nanase, look at kyosukes vids, he has the best nanase that I know.
For pullum, he's got a decent pullum too :p. typically I rush down and press it. you have frame advantage on ground drill, kind wind helps cover up mistakes. I stand by the tried and true c.mk, mk.ten'el kick, k.momentary on the first hit and repeat. But switch it up with p.momentary. and if you mess up and combo go for the spinning kick super when you land from the ten'el kick, or on block, kind wind after 2nd hit on ten'el kick.

Basic things with Nanase:
- When an opponent jumps towards you, press C.MP, then do a J.HK and finish it with a Yayoi Toukon Gi (qcb qcb + P)
- With a partner after a change you can do a C.MP, Sanren Kon x2 (qcf + LP or MP), this allows that the partner can jump to do a combo after that...
- You can take advantage of her speed, jump and size...
Some examples you can see on my youtube account:

Why was EX3 on the list? Why was EX3 on the list? Man, we've been hearing that a lot lately. Why? For me personally there are several reasons. I personally feel the game handles like crap, the 3D doesnt work at all and in comparison to other Street Fighter games it pales in comparison. It doesnt really matter what others rated it with our lists, we think it sucks nuts. That's the beauty of lists, right? Everyone's is different.

I was thinking there has to be a way to get more damage off of Ken's kick super. The most I can get off it is the old EX2+ combo: cancel, dMP, jHK, air Hurricane which is 48(super does 51 with no canceling). Is this as high as you can go without using another super? I can't ever make Ken hit the enemy with his guard break after the cancel.
There's got to be a way with tagging. I don't want to use another super with Ken but it's ok if his partner does. The trouble is keeping them in the air long enough for the partner to take over. Zangief's russian slam keeps missing. Any ideas?

The Aire Death Dream can be comboed off of any single hit move that puts the opponent in a juggle state. Off the top of my head you can combo it in EX3 after Claws super, Daruns bridge, Jacks Homerun Hero, etc. In theory it could combo off of some throws done after a tag, but you'd have to throw the opponent really late and do a hop 720 to get it. Probbaly be worth testing, like Tag, SPD, juggle with Air Death Dream.
As for EX2, no way of telling since there are no teams.
Sorry if I rambled a bit, but I wasn't entirely sure what you were asking. :looney:
I wounder if you can't excel into juggle then air demon???

I understand why it works in EX3, but would it work in EX2 off of random juggle hits? (say, Death Crush XX SC Death Gov't, then random juggle hit into hop 720)? Or are juggle rules more strict in EX2 outside of Excels?

the random juggle hit would have to be performed by Shadow himself. As far as I know (I'm not much of a shadow player), but he doesn't really have any juggle moves. unlike Dhalsim, jack or darun.

It has to be the jugglable-till-you-fall state? or that short period during mid-air hitstun that they can be juggled?
Because if you can do what I'm thinking, then Death Gov't combos just became even better. =/
Kyosuke- Yeah, that's kinda obvious. =p But it doesn't do that in combos, right? I can't test now, but I doubt it would link off Death Gov't thanks to that stupid projectile/GB rule....

While I faced Sabre in the first and lost in a close set of 3.
JoshDaFunk faced Sirlin who apparently was eliminated right there, or choose not to play again one of the two.

David Sirlin quits so he doesn't get a bye but would have had he continued
next round
Winners:

Losers:

Sabre vs Sirlin: Sabre wins by default
Next round of Losers:

assuming my bracket recreation by remembering a few matches went right, thats how it should have been.
For side ex at the place.
Friday was hell, I got a spot in the corner but I ended up being surrounded by tons of Guilty Gear and Tekken players who drew crowds so no one could come through to play, and if I was in a tournament I'd have to wait half an hour to get back to my spot. Of course the Tekken players complained that I took up too much room, cause yanno, it was just me and my computer monitor that I brought from home, while they had 3-4 set ups, plus an arcade set up of Tekken 5.
But I did play against 2 people, 1 said that EX3 was too silly (complained about a statue of Shiva appearing after winning by super... but had he complaints about other games having sunbursts, vortexes and fire everywhere in other games if you win by super. He also complained that it was too hard to combo (ie no easy chain combos). The other guy admited to having the game but no one to play against and enjoyed a few sets against me.
Saturday
By the time I got there half the TV space was taken by Tekken 5 players again (5-6 Tvs), and the other half was getting ready for the CvS2 tournament. So I had to wait until CvS2 ended before I could set up, which was around 11:50pm. So I got casuals against Just Ownin I think, he complained of Tag and that there was no Dash. He also said that the new characters were "cooky". He left after a while and another person came up, I assumed he knew how to play as he picked some EX characters and tagged and threw a little bit. But after a handful of matches he left. Lastly I got the face Jeron at the end of the night, but halfway through our first match, the place turned off the power so we were forced to stop.
Today, I'll be there to get my ass handed to me in ST, and after Smash Bros finishes I try to set up some Ex again. Though Justin is going home today so he won't be there today. But maybe if I'm lucky I can get some matches in against Jeron and Josh.
I was also working on a combo on friday while waiting for challengers. Here is my goal
Kieth says:
worked on a combo there though
Kieth says:
Dhalsim: j.hp, s.hp(short), tag, s.hp(short), surprise blow
Kieth says:
Ken: j.hp, c.mp, c.mk, hp.hadouken, hk.momentary, shippo jinrai, cancel, c.lp, c,hp, shoryu reppa, shippu jinrai, cancel, tag, c.lp, lp.hadouken
Kieth says:
Dhalsim: lk.yoga blast, c.mk (slide), yoga legend, yoga drill, tag, c.mk, yoga legend
Kieth says:
Ken: j.hp, c.hp, shoryuken, shinryuken
or some variation of that.

no he didn't, though he walked around with some staff lol.
To recap today
I came in and played ST. I lost the first round (should have ticked SPD and not tick fab and I would have won that round).
I guess I got a bye in the losers or something, and I faced another opponent and beat him (gogo Gief), then I faced FlashG and it was GGPO for me lol.
For EX wise, Jason and I lost my board.... we literally spent like 5 hours trying to find it. Eventually Jason found it under a pile of cardboard from the TVs he bought/rented or something for the tournament.
After that I finally got some EX3 in. I played some singled when Just Ownin asked if I noticed that I didn't have a crowd and played by myself and recommended that I pick up tekken... shortly there after Jeron came over and we played a couple matches (he won them all, it was like 4, so itwas mainly match up I think). Then while playing him, DreamTR, Sabre, AfroCole and a few others came up and started playing against Jeron. It sounds like they had a lot of fun. Then Jeron had to go so I took over and served Sabre some revenge for the slaughter he gave me in A2 that weekend lol.
after that, the place died down, and I left shortly there after.
However DreamTR said that next year we're gonna have a EX3 tournament, so I want ya'll to show up :D.

3-4 setups? You mean 1 ps3 with Tekken, and maybe one with Virtua fighter. I dont doubt that people complained about your location (cause some people were complaining about lack of space in general), but as i remember on friday, there was only 1 tekken station, and a crap ton of guilty, and the melty stations i set up on the side. But please dont make it out to seem like all the tekken players are badguys here...
And then on saturday, there were a lot of tekken stations because of the tourney. Makes sense, right? After the tekken tourney ended around 8ish, we lost 3 of the 5 ps3s that were there for tekken, and the one ps3 that was being used for VF. So there were a couple free tv's that you could have jumped on earlier than 11:50 PM, but i think dark geese jumped on one of them first and there def wasnt that much space...
Regardless, if i wasnt busy with the other things i was playing, i was thinking about playing some EX, but i have no idea how to play the character im interested in learning, and figured it wouldnt be worth it to learn at that point (about 12:30 PM, lol) I hear Area is easy though, and she's awesome. I remember seeing some vids at the Acho arcade where an area player would combo the guy, then stick her arm thing in the ground, and it would move forward and hit the other guy or something. That was pretty sweet, but aside from that, and rumors of an instant overhead, i'd have no idea what to do. :(
So yeah, i guess this post is somewhat asking how to play area, preferably kept to about one paragraph or less...

I got there earily as well. Originally before the Guilty Gear took up the one side there were 2-3 Tekken stations there as well. And when they were complaining to me late at night, I could have sworn that there were at least 2 set ups on the right of me, on top of that they also had the arcade. Though the face that I was in a piss poor location is more my fault and even if someone wanted to come in to play, it'd be pretty hard.
For saturday, I didn't expect much space so I didn't complain about it, same with sunday.
Also, didn't I play against you at Anime Reactor like 2 years ago? I think it was the one where you won the Naruto 3 tournament, if you are who I think you are lol.

Infested - Which EX is the more popular/more played one? Ill try to learn Area from that one if thats the case. I think EX2, from what i hear...
Shinji - Ah, late at night there may have been more than one ps3, i thought you meant mid-day. I left around 11, so im not sure if someone had one after that.
And the arcade cabinet was a totally different version of tekken. it was the original 5.0 version, and dark resurrection was the version being played for the tourney and on the PS3's and such. I wouldnt even count that. For the same reason nobody was playing arcade GG: slash, nobody was playing arcade 5.0 tekken.
And yeah, we played at anime reactor a couple years ago, and yeah, i won the naruto tourney there, haha.
I would have played but i found people who played KOF: Maximum impact 2, and the chance to play that against someone is so rare i had to jump on it, haha.

if you're looking for local comp then I'd guess than Ex3 would be the choice. In that case you'd have myself, Dia, Nhat and their brothers. Not to mention EX3 being a tournament next year too.
EX2+ seems bigger on the east coast (with exception to the Jersey crew lol), and I think the first EX is bigger on the west coast lol. But that doesn't have area so thats mute.
In all honesty, I don't think I've meet a single person locally that wants EX2+... well JustOwnin whats 1 on 1 fights so maybe him but he isn't from chi-town.
Regarding Tekken, I probably just have a problem with chicago tekken players as they mock EX (as they did at anime reactor, which they were at MWC). But yeah arcade was 5.0, but its still something to practice on. Not to mention that they didn't even bother to enter in any of the other tournaments, so while I'm supporting Dream, they take my chairs. They coulda done that at the hotel.
I actually bought a table so I can set it up on the side saturday and sunday. Sadly Dark Geese took the spot I was gonna use lol. But I can't hate on him, he's reviving the SNK scene nation wide and is a cool dude.
For naruto, your Ten Ten almost makes me want to buy a gamecube to play as her, almost but still 2 years later I think about it.
KOf MI2 I just bought to Jesters advice, now if I'll play it is another matter.
But since you're from chicago, hit me up if you wanna get some matches in.
For Area, all I know is that j.mk has mad priority, great cancer beats most supers except Shoryu reppa, and you try to trap the opponent with download into her altnerative catch.

Also I noticed something that most of you already knew.
After you tag, if you immdiatedly hold any attack button, the character will perform it. If you do a special, it'll do the normal attack into the special. For easy example, Zangief lariat. If you do tag, then immdiatedly press and hold ppp, right out of tag he'll do a s.lp, and then go directly into the lariat, even if you're still holding PPP.

07-09-2007, 01:54 AM
Well something like that is good in theory, but unless a lot of SFEX tournaments are being thrown, it really won't do any good. Case in point, EX2+ was the only EX tournament this year, so it'll be a whlie before we get a EX+ ranking, or Ex2. We'll have to wait at least a year for an EX3.
Also the lack of entrants will skew these rankings too.

I think that's the problem, as much as I don't like to admit it, the EX series will never get popular from a tournament standpoint (unless it suddenly becomes an EVO or SBO game, which most likely won't happen). If the EX series was ever supposed to have good turnouts to tournaments, it would've been in the late 90's, or early 2000, but that never happened. If you check out the thread made by Dark Geese, you will see a ranking of games that probably only had tournaments either never, or once in a long time, but there is still a ranking, so that we can know who the best players are in the game (which will cause the game to get more attention, because you know there is someone that looks at the power ranking and thinks to them self that they can beat the people on the ranking list.)

Well you can pm colguile to see if he'll post the results from MWC/Evo North on his first post.
In other news, I've agreed to do a system tutorial for DreamTR on EX3, so he'll have an idea on how to play the game come next MWC (since he's holding a tournament for it then), as well as a few character tutorials for him. I also asked sabre but he hasn't responded yet.
He's planing on playing Zangief, C.Jack and Guile, so if you can list your combos, defensive juggles, tick throws, traps, set ups, how you move the character forward, pysch-outs, counters to likely situations, block strings, setup attacks, best cross up, best aa etc....
So pm me them, write it here, email, or make a short video lol.
My lack of match play experience is counting on you :-D

what's dead body and defensive juggle?
ShinjiGohan
07-13-2007, 11:58 AM
what's dead body and defensive juggle?
dead body is being able to hit the characters body after they lose, either for tactical advantage or whatever else.
Defensive juggle, is essentially an AA, like c.hp with ken, to shoryu reppa or something like that, a deep lp.shoryuken, to shinku tatsumaki.
ahhhh, i see...makes sense!
hey shinji, got a question. How effective/useful would you say that D. Darks explosive trap (cross up) is in EX3 compared to EX2?
ShinjiGohan
07-13-2007, 01:53 PM
to be honest, it seems easier to time it in EX3 than it was in EX2.
However you could theoreticly just tag out of it.
And Dai did a reversal shinku tatsumaki to hit me out of the cross up and thus negate the explosion. But that should work for both EX2 and EX3.
I'd say that since it seems easier to time it'd be a bit better, but tagging could end it right there (excels could do the same thing, but then you're wasting a bar of super)...
In that sense, I guess it isn't as powerful as it was in EX2. Since there are more ways to get out of it... or rather a better chance of you being in a situation where you could get out of it.
Gen, was there anything else that I missed? I just thought of kara-surpriseblow, kara-super to add onto the kara canceling, so I can capture that tonight.
I have to agree to everything you just said! the fact that you can get out of it with a well timed tag, and the fact that the tag bar fills autamatically makes it less effective to me.
i also noticed that you had a perfect set up for it against dai but he got out of it with the shinku tatsumaki... I was like MANN!!!...
anyway, I think you covered everything, well provided that you include everthing within each of those points. for ex., are you going to include tag throws in the throw section or in the tag section? also, like you said, the karacanceling section should include all aspects that the EX3 engine allows, along with what's useful and what's not.

I seriously did not realize just how much shit that's in there... what other games uses defensive juggling? does the defensive juggle reset the damage after a successful AA normal?
ShinjiGohan
07-13-2007, 11:12 PM
I got the idea of defensive juggling from the old A2 stragety guide by "Versus Games".
the defensive juggle still combos, so I would think that the damage would still be scaled by the follow up.
Yeah, for the kara, I had best do it, try and show all of it... then again this is being made for some OGs and they'd be able to figure out most of it.... but we'll see I guess.

ok I got another one, though its more character specific.
Safe Meaties.
Kens c.lp has 3 frames of recovery, if you time your meaty perfectly, there is nothing (outside of possibly a reversal tag, or reversal throw) that he can do about it. If he reversals shoryuken, the c.lp will have already recovered and you can block that for free and punish at will. Even if Ken attempts to shoryu reppa, or shinryuken, the c.lp will recover in time and you can block and punish at will.
Though obviously this won't work on reversal SPDs lol, possibly reversal raging demons, but since most specials have a start up greater than 4 frames, you should be generally safe.

Hmmm, my old guide doesn't cover anything you haven't already mentioned. In fact, your covers the juggle system regarding weights and conditions beter than mine.
As for things like Giefs kick and other moves knocking people back/off screen, I used the VS. series term "flying screen" for that. Just be sure to mention how to beat it with certain characters like repeated Rosso dashes, Giefs 720 run, etc.
Gen....any chance of return trip to NJ/NY anytime soon? If so be sure to let me know ahead of time, I won't be here for the month of February.

Does anyone have good excels for Guile in Ex 2+? Both ground and anti-air.
Also, any tips against a good Area player? Her jumping + down HP move is extremely annoying and high priority, when done extremely low it seems she can recover fast enough to block a flash kick.
ShinjiGohan
07-20-2007, 02:02 PM
I don't have any frame data for Area, but guiles flash kick has a 6frame start up, mean while his double flash kick has a 4 frame start up, so that might help.
meanwhile his standing and crouching short has a 5 frame start up, so not as good as DL FK but still ok, standing jab has a 3 frame start up (his best) and crouching has a 5 frame start up.
So you can try any of those instead of a flashkick and see if she still recovers. For excels, I don't really have any.. I could probably transcribe some from EX2 mook that I have, but I don't know if its good for AA or what.

08-10-2007, 12:13 PM
ok, I had a few more ideas for the video (bumpish lol).
One is tech throws, another is about throw holds damage, like how each has a preset number of max and min hits.
Lastly tick throws do work in this game, or more specifically block tick, tag, throw. so saw standing jab blocked and you're next to the opponent, you can tag off of the jab hit and then hold throw and you'll throw automatically cause you're still within range. Guess I should try it with crouching attacks too, but thats the theory and captured so it can work. I have no idea what the frame data is for it though.

ok, it is impossible to use a rosso counter for Blankas electricity (haven't checked on the meteor one though).
Also you can do automatic kara 1 button moves by simply crouching when you press it. For example, normally Rossos KKK move doesn't move you, but if you hold down while pressing it it'll move you forward.
With this you can see how the range sucks for Zangiefs KKK move lol.
ex. If you walk up and do a low roundhouse and then do the down+p.lariat you'll reach the opponent on the 4th lariat. If you do the down+k.lariat instead though, you'll hit in the 7th lariat.
doesn't work with throws though :(

What I'm saying is that by going into a special move from a crouching position you move forward. Just like if you had kara canceled into the special move.
This is easiest to execution with 1 button moves (Daruns parry, Zangiefs Lariats etc...). But should you alter your execution of certain techniques you might be able to move forward. Like maybe d, df, f, d+p for a fireball.

hmm, the link is still good, and RtS was able to watch it. So either a problem lies in your player or the video was corrupt when DLing it. So either try another player, or reDLing the video.

09-15-2007, 07:54 PM
I've read that other games extend your hitbox if you crouch so I Guess its derivitive of that. In fact that is probably why the d.dark c.mk kc explosive works. However I don't know if thats also in regular SF games.
ShinjiGohan
09-16-2007, 11:40 AM
ok I attempted it with a hadouken, and it didn't work lol. In fact I think I moved more forward doing it the regular way. Guess the key to that move would be to kara cancel the crouching attack into it.
Also I found a use for my programmable pad. Program in a sequence of attacks that I have a hard time against in matches and try to reverse it on my regular pad lol. I've been getting down reversing a c.mp, c.mk from ken and ryu with ryu.
Also practiced tag throwing sagat out of his tiger genocide and meteor move. Now I need to look back to some of my losses and see where I had trouble and try to counter it.
Oh BTW with Rosso you can beat out Blankas electricity with a j.punch. However its far easier to get it to work with a straight up jump than a jump forward. Because you have to have your spacing be exact. But you can beat it out.
ShinjiGohan
09-18-2007, 10:41 PM
Also forgot another finding.
While I was reversing the c.mk link with a shoryuken, there were several times that I accidentally sc into a shinku hadouken... and it connected. I don't know if it was because of the distance or what, but shoryuken to shinku hadou can connect.

question shinji, does a late jump in attack avoid reversals???
ShinjiGohan
10-07-2007, 03:00 PM
meaties can avoid reversals but only if you time them perfectly.
I remember back a few pages I said that a meaty guile c.lp is completely safe against reversal shoryukens and most other moves since it has such a short recovery time (3 frames), so any reversal with a start up of 4 frames or more is gonna miss it.
However off hand I don't know what the recovery is from landing a whiffed jump attack (which would be the case if they reversed with a move that has starting invincibility) so I can't say for sure in those cases, but if the recovery from a whiffed jump attack is less than 5 frames then it should be safe against most reversals.

To Gen, from the looks of it, its definitely possible. Next thing to look at is how many start up frames that Purim kick has....
Ok, the Purim kick has 7 start up frames.
if you can, you can see if someone can do guiles flashkick as a reversal to the same setup. That has 6 frames of start up. If that works, you can have the person try to do a double flash kick reversal with has 4 frames of start up.
BTW shoryuken has 5 with ryu so he'd be the middle ground between flash kick and dfk
and on the extreme end, zangiefs lariats have a start up of 2 frames.
and kill blade has 3.
So
2: Lariat

4: Double Flash Kick
5: Shoryuken

His schedule of tournaments to goto for the side tournaments in EX3 are as follows.
Season's Beatings, Columbus, OH: November 3-4, 2007
Northeast Championship, Philadelphia, PA: December 1-2, 2007
Pacific Northwest Regional, Portland, OR: December 15, 2007
Midwest Challenge, Chicago, IL: February? 2008
Final Round, Atlanta, GA: March 15-16, 2008
EVO South? Houston, TX: March? 2008
Montreal Annual Tournament, Montreal, Quebec, CA: Date Unknown
Texas Showdown, Houston, TX: April? 2008
EVO East, Stamford, CT: Memorial Day 2008
EVO North, Northbrook, IL: Late June 2008
Toronto 9, Toronto, ON, CAN: July 2008
Juarez Tournament, Juarez, MX: July 2008
EVO West, San Diego/Los Angeles, CA: July 2008
EVO World, Las Vegas, NV: August 2008
obviously some tournaments are going to be hard to get space to run all of side tournaments he wants to run. and depending on entrants some side tournaments might be canceled. but its worth a shot I guess if you're nearby.

Gen says that they exist. However I've never been able to cancel a regular move into a throw as I could a tag or surprise blow. Even with a programmable controller I still can't do it. So as knowledgable as Gen is on the subject, I'm gonna have to question whether or not its truely possible.

I can't quote you on this forum, I believe it was something you said while the NA forums were still up lol. That said, its been a couple years since those forums were last online, so maybe I'm wrong....
but in my experience they don't exist in EX3.

MAN, that sucks considering the crappy range normal throws have in EX3.
while we're on the subject of karas, here's a kara dark wire for d. dark. c.MK seem to be giving me the most range but i could be wrong...you may catch your apponent off guard with this one should they doubt how far you can throw it.

Too bad you couldn't make it this year, Doug has been living here the past few months, we could have had a shitload of matches. Good chance I'll be going to MWC next year if I skip ACEN which I probably will. You eager to get punished by the Rosso/Kairi rushdown again? Actually Rosso/Area is probably my best team now according to everyone I've played.

that might actually work...
I mean you can purposely throw one that whiffs while a explosive is out, so they think that they're out of range and while they don't suspect it you kara into another one and get them.

ok I told dai about MWC, he seems up for it. I just gotta tell Nhat about it and then team chicago should be set lol.
Which obviously meant that I got a chance to play Dai today. We played on his computer monitor using my xrgb2+ device and had no lag ^.^ But no recording. I'll be heading there on thursday night for some more play, likely no recording then either since he doesn't really have the equipment. But practice is practice.

Shinji, I can't get the character change codebreaker codes to work at all.
They're listed here:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=3416408#post3416408
All my stuff is the US version. I've tried your master code and the one my (Pelican) codebreaker (v 9.3) comes with. No matter how I set the characters, they are always who I pick on the select screen, and never who I set them to be in the code section. This is for both 1 and 2 player and all modes.
Any suggestions?

assuming that you typed in the codes correctly, the only other thing that I can think of is that this newer codebreaker v9.3 doesn't allow raw codes but only encrypted ones...

I picked up this game again recently. I have always really liked it, but I never have anyone to play it with. I wondering if any people, I haven't noticed any, play with the timer on? I was told a while back that it is impossible to do that, and that I would time out all my matches, but anytime I play other people who DO play this game, we play with default settings and I don't really ever get to time outs at all. I am sure this may mean I just suck, but I was just curious. I really don't like playing without timers, and I don't like messing with default settings much. But if there is an established norm, I should most likely switch to that.
Also, is there any other settings I would need to change from default? thanks for all the help.
By the way my team is Jack and Darun.

Anytime we would play we'd set the timer to off, but Shinji suggested putting it to the slowest setting not infinite which seems to be the best way to go.
Also we always have damage set to the least possible. On normal settings one tag combo could possibly = death. Lowest damage setting allows for an actual match. Don't get me wrong though, even on that setting certain teams can still do 50% combos and Garuda can still CP you to instant death.

I thought about playing this game cause the tag system seemed pretty fluent.
But..what's the tier list look like?

Might have changed a little, but for the most part, this is what myself and the others had decided on.

Chun Li can be considered higher if you can pull her infinite, and Sharon might be up up a little bit too. A lot of these choices were made taking into account who is good with a specific team memeber, who is still good when their partner dies, etc.

 @ Vega and Sakura being low tier.

Vega suffers from low comboability, Sakura is pretty much fucked if her partner dies, and she also suffers from low comboability when compared to the others.
You can certainly win with them, but you'd probably need a Dhalsim or Rosso on the team to carry most of the match.
I think I'd probably put Pullum up to tops now after Shinji showed what a great pressure character and battery she is, bitch builds meter like crazy. She can also set up unblockables with Rosso and possibly Area.

What's a good team to start with? Just to learn the basics but can easily progress into more advanced mechanics as you play the game more?

I'd go Ryu and Ken. They compliment each other quite well, and their combos involve a lot of the mechanics of the game but not in a ridiculously complicated way. I also suggest this team as most people know the basic shoto style which only needs to be altered a little in this engine to learn.

Not sure about that, but I do know the JPN version has slowdown issues at times. Not as bad as first reported but they are there. Shinji can probably elaborate on this more.
Do not buy the pal version! It's 50hz only.

I wouldn't say it's impossible but you will get time outs. anyway, i still play with the timer on and i've found it to be quite interesting the way players react to this...

For timer, if you play on regular damage the match should end before the timer goes out. But if you decrease the damage then you're gonna have to slow down the timer to compensate for it.

This thread is great. I've been playing EX3 quite often recently.
I've enjoyed reading all the tactics, and watching the little videos posted.
Players interested in the EX series, should try 'Fighting Layer'.
It is made by Arika, the same guys behind the EX games.
It plays very similar to EX3, just with alot more stuff.
It features most of the stuff, you would expect from an EX game (Cancel, Super Cancels, etc.). However some stuff
