Street Fighter Comic speculations & SPOILERS thread

Seeing as we already have a thread for Street Fighter storyline canon. And seeing as the Street Fighter comics from UDON (Image) have a slightly different storyline, I figure the comic story should get its own thread.

For those who missed SF #0:

Ryu had a dream sequence where he was training in the forest outside Gouken's dojo. He fought against "Evil" Ryu, who almost killed him before Gouken's cry awoke Ryu. Ryu rushed to the dojo to find Gouken dead and a "ten" symbol in blood on the wall.

SF #1

Of interest:

- Charlie's last name is Nash in the comics. His last name isn't really Nash, but if you're reading the book, you should already know that. Or maybe Nash is his codename. Hmmm...

- Apparently, Ryu has had his red headband since before Street Fighter 1.

- Also, it seems Bison organized Street Fighter 1.

- Characters in this issue: Ryu, Ken, Eliza, Chun Li, Guile, Birdie, Bison, Vega, Sagat, Balrog, Charlie, Cammy. Yes, Cammy. She's in one panel in this issue. She'll probably have more "screen time" next issue when she fights Chun Li supposedly.

- Chun Li is in the background in a few scenes in the diner. This explains how she got to that gangster leaving the diner.

Trademark character moves:

- Ryu: none (well, Hadouken, Shoryuken, tatsumaki senpuukyaku in the flashback story)
- Ken: standing Forward
- Guile: f. FP, Flash Kick, Hair Comb winpose
- Chun Li: Hoyouku Sen
- Birdie: Standing FP, Bull Revenger
- Sagat: Tiger Shot

Regarding Charlie/Nash, we asked Capcom and they are OK with his full name being such. It seems because they named Guile's pal Charlie in SF2 in USA, that name is stuck. At that time, I guess they never would have thought the dead friend of Guile would ever become a playable character in future installments of SF. Unlike the name switch betwen Balrog, Vega, and Bison, this character does have 2 names that confuses the heck out of everyone. Therefore, we decide to match the 2 together and make his full name Charlie Nash in the comic with Capcom's approval.


Issue 2 - the main fight will be Vega VS E-Honda. See more of Chun Li, Cammy, Guile, Ryu, and Ken, PLUS.... Sakura debuts!

Of coz, the flashback tale of a Chun Li & Cammy fight by Adam Warren.

Curious about how the whole Sakura having a white headband thing will be explained (she'd had to of witnessed Ryu wearing a White headband and displaying his 3 signature moves) but I trust you guys at Studio Udon to get things right.

If you look closely, that girl is actually Red Monkia, from Joe Mad's Battle Chasers comic.

They can handle the whole Sakura headband 1 of 3 ways.

1) Bowling Pin's idea

2) She gets the headband because of Ryu, but gets a white one to be diffrient or cause it matches her outfit better.

3) It just wont come up, isnce all the Alpha storylines happen in flashbacks (and wont go into little details)

Although this raises a few questions for me

Udoneko -

1) Are you guys aloud to show Sakura outside the Alpha era/timeline? (or any of the Alpha chars for that matter)

2) Do you guys (UDON) know what you can and cant do as far as SF goes, or do you only know after Capcom of Japan sees what you've done?

3) I guess if you ever have to explain the Ryu's having a red headband and not white in his early years, you could always have him (Ryu) get it the sameway he got it in the SF2 Animated Movie right? (When Ryu & Ken were younger and training Ken cuts open Ryu's head with a kick, then Ken gives Ryu the headband [that tied back Ken's long hair] to stop the bleeding)

I just don't like the idea that Vega organized the first SF tournament, maybe have him lurk in the background or whatever but it SHOULD be Sagat that organized the tournament, it would mean more to his character and his eventual rise above his pettiness.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what was up with him being there. He either organized it or was simply observing it for potential recruits/allies/threats/host bodies heh. I figure it'll be cleared up later on down the line.

Its about Sagat.

It happens right after the flashback story in #1.

It has Sagat imagining he's fighting Ryu while he's training, with bandages on his chest.

On the last page he pulls of the bandages to reveal his hugh scar.


If you dont get your hands on the Gamepro, Im sure they'll have the four pages (as well as SF#0) in the first SF trade paper back (TPB) UDON makes.

Oh, and please tell me Guile will use handcuffs at least once. I can see it now, Guile throws someone, but before he lets go, he slaps a handcuff on them! Then the other guy's like "WTF?".

Well, I personally don't know the story. I always assumed it was because he was extremely violent, like Tyson w/Ear-biting super times 10. Check: He was banned for being extremely violent in the ring, so he joined Shadowlaw.

Woohoo just got issue 2 this morning. The date/shipping thread really helps. Well anyways I got the cover that J Scott did and I can tell he never played street fighter cause the cover was well drawn but the looks were wack. I wish my comic store had a diff cover.

Vega is so badass and well drawn in this issue.

Now that I've had my fun...

First off, great choice on the cover, for both you and me. I picked up the "After Akiman" cover. A perfect homage to a classic image. Dude, if you could get the classic Street Fighter II logo, put that on the image and make a poster out of that, I'd buy it. I'd also buy a poster of the "Every Street Fighter character in existence minus SF1 & the EX series" cover for issue #1. And then the cover for issue 3.... Too Good!

And this month's issue is leaps and bounds above the previous. This issue was so good, I could hear the character's voices. Well, the dubbed voices from the anime, except Scott McNeil was voicing Ken because I've been on a Gundam Wing kick lately...

Cammy: "Agent Killer Bee". Nice Touch.

Vega: Regarding his relationship with Cammy, Tiamat explained it perfectly. Seriously dude, with all the work you've done on the SF storyline, someone owes you a job. I think it's Capcom. Anyway, nice fight vs. Honda.

Honda: The fat man makes his debut. pulls off his 3 signature moves and gets pwned. Still, a good showing. At least he fared better than Dan vs. Vega...

Ryu: Forget everything you've heard about Ryu has no personality. This man has the best dream sequences ever.

Kei: That's right, not Sakura, but Kei. Kei's design seems a little off. She seems to have a little too much "life" in her; she seems more expressive. Then again, the most we've seen of Kei is in MSH v. SF.

Oh and one more thing, Adam Warren must be drawn and quartered. That side issue was the worst drawn ever. According to Adam, Chun Li and Cammy have no noses and gigantic eyes and mouths. Although, I do like the use of a "Dourai" (Chun Li's father in SF2V) looking figure for Chun Li's father. Nice.


All in all, though, a triumph of an issue! :D

Thank you! Thank you! I couldn't believe no one has mentioned it till now, but yeah Adam Warren's drawings were horrible. Ever since seeing the sneak preview of the work 2 weeks ago I couldn't help but feel like Chun Li and Cammy were monkeys. Ah well.

Things I noticed - (I said some of this on another Thread)

Just like the SFZ Anime, Sakura wants to enter a Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Unlike said Anime, Ken doesn't bring flowers for Gouken's Grave but a Dragon Punch.

Ryu doesn't sleep on a bed for nothing! Seeing him sleep without a shirt reminded me of the SFZ Anime too.

Gouki didn't have his Beads when he fought Gouken. I've seen Mangas from Japan and Hong Kong indicate he got them from Gotetsu when he killed him, and some indicate he got the Beads from Gouken when he killed him. Most likely he's gonna take the Beads from Gouken's Grave.

Chun-Li's Bracelet necklace.

Much like SF2V, all evidence points to Chun-Li being from Hong Kong and not Mainland China. Also, she calls her dad Pa Pa just like SF2V. In SF2 CD Dramas, she called him the Japanese name for dad.

The US Martial Arts Tournament was mentioned and The Dolls were mentioned.

I wonder if they will have Balrog(Ninja) and Ken fight over Eliza like every Hong Kong SF Comic has done. This rivalry even showed up in SF2V with Chun-Li playing the role of the girl.

I still wonder if Eliza noticed in issue 1 when she said "....." that Guile was her brother in-law.

And I still wonder how Sakura will decide to wear a white headband. Maybe she'll get curious and see one of Ryu's old fights on Video?

Lastly, on the last page of the main story, notice a Billboard with Ultraman. NOW THAT'S GANGSTA!

The Hot Dog Contest thing is our kudos to the SFZ Anime, and also our little fun twist that would fit in that she is a big E-Honda fan in her beginning search of the greatest warrior in Japan.

Glad you noticed that Ryu did not sleep on that soft and comfy bed at Ken's house!

Since HK is part of China now, so it all fits in. And since I am chinese, we all call our dad "Pa Pa". Obviousely, we will not be speaking Japanese in HK all the time.

And glad that you noticed the "...." on Eliza to Guile. :)

And that Ultraman image is a Cover we did for the Ultraman series that is on shelf right now publised by DarkHorse. It's done by the SF team - Alvin Lee & Arnold Tsang. hee hee. Go pick it up! Its a pretty cool adaptation of the HK comic with new covers by various UDON artists!

CAMMY!!!!!! streetfighter 2 was much better than the first one!!!!!! i like the name killer bee being attached to cammy i feared you guys would forget it but you guys keep on surprising me. i have a couple of questions will cammy star in her own streetfighter comic ever? cause her battle to leave shadaloo has to be the best one i've ever seen and i think it shouldnt be cheapend in a 4 page backup story. adam warren gave a fellow cammy lover some pictures of the battle with cammy winning!!!!

Pesonally, I think the following characters/story arcs should get their own miniseries/comic

Final Fight
The U.S. Martial Arts Championship (Ken, Charlie & Allen Snider!)
Dan Hibiki (Come on, the wacky adventures of Dan, Blanka & Sakura!!! non-canon and purely for fun.)
Alex
Ryu (pre-issue #0)
Balrog (how he came up from the ghetto and eventually fell into Shadaloo)
Gen (the man has lived for like 70+ years, there's got to be a sotry in there somewhere...)

This could work as a back up story (not a mini series) but I dont even see it working that well for a back up story cause...

- Charlie won the US Martial Arts Championship twice

- The year after that, neither Charlie nor Ken competed

- The year after that Ken competed and has won the last five tournaments

- Allen Snider is an ARIKA character, and UDON is only liscensed to use Capcom characters, plus we dont even know if the story Capcom of USA gave him is the correct one (after all they said Garuda was an alien)

Dan Hibiki (Come on, the wacky adventures of Dan, Blanka & Sakura!!! non-canon and purely for fun.)

It just be better if they did a remake of Sakura Ganbaru (but make it a bit diffrient, ie include Blanka and some other stuff)

Could be done as a back up story, or they could do a back story devotd to how Sagat, Vega, and Balrog all came under the wing of Shadowloo.


I really dont see any potential in single character mini series, because none of them have an extensive history that couldnt be told in a back up story.

The only mini-series I see working is Street Fighter Alpha, obviously re-telling the Alpha series, and/or a mini series that pre-dates SF1, and is about Gouken, Akuma, Goutetsu, Retsu, Geki, Bison, Chun Li's father, etc, etc, all those characters who have mysterious or unknown pasts that people are dying to know about.

I just realized something.

So far, each issue (0 through 2) have introduced new characters.
0 - Ryu.
1 - Bison, Birdie, Charlie, Ken, Eliza, Chun Li, Guile.
2 - Cammy, Vega, Sakura, E. Honda.

Therefore, who thinks the next few characters will be?

3 - Rose, Dhalsim, Balrog.

Those are my guesses.

There are like, 36+ characters in the Alpha series, alone. The Alpha series of the SF comic will only last like, 12 issues from what's been stated so far. So yea, of course a whole bunch of new characters will be introduced every issue. There has to be in order to have anywhere near the full cast from the games. And that's not even including the SF1 exclusive chars...

1) DAAAAMN!! Why can't Ryu just have wet dreams like NORMAL people? At least then he'd only have to replace the sheets...

2) The fight we've all been itching for since the final page of #2 doesn't occur for a while, but when it does, it's freakin' SWEET! (btw...Vega is suave as a mofo! Lucky Ken's not the jealous type)

3) This issue features the intro of a certain female fighter who I've always told my friends "Looks like a stewardess"...and you'll never guess what she's masquerading as..
