You will have to start completely over if you switch to Alexander. All a world pass does is let you create a character on that server.

I already started over once. I had a 25ish Elvaan character and changed to a Mithra because I want to be a ranger later on.

My new character is level 18 thief/10 war/15 mnk.

I could get you a world pass today.

I heard that the FCC changed the rules for TV recently. Apparently just about anything goes as long as you don't say "shit" in reference to crap and "fuck" in reference to having sex. I don't think you can use cute, creative names for the swimsuit area yet either. (dick, cunt, etc.) Not sure what the exact rules are, but this is what I heard from the rumor mill.

Now, why one swear word is worse than another is a mystery to me. I think they're all good. :cool:

I think it's about time you realize that you are the one who uses a different controller. EVERY SINGLE PLAYER WHO HAS A RANKING IN GGXX (or Street Fighter/CvS2/whatever) USES A STICK. You are the exception, combined with the fact that being honest, even the best in El Paso are GGXX scrubs relatively speaking. So don't even think you are *that* good.

By the way, in my opinion, sticks at UTEP (when they work correctly) are better than the ones you guys use(gotta be the buttons :). That is just my opinion maybe because I play more in those than in the others.

Sticks at UTEP suck. I have played on several sticks that are way better than the ones the CvS2 machine has:

Carlos' sticks
Lando's stick
Fernie's stick
Gameroom arcade's sticks (Cali)
Sticks used in the Houston arcade.
My Agetec stick.

The main problem is just the fact that you don't want to de-wire your brain from using a pad. You may use sticks, but you are just not willing to get used to them.

It has been already discussed before that sticks offer a natural advantage. Heck, I can argue that even a keyboard is better than a pad when used properly.

Maybe you just need to see top tier MvC2, CvS2 or GGXX videos to see what sticks allow you to do.

Stupid managers. It's incredible how Tilt went from being the main place for us to play despite having an arcade-like setup at home to a place where we only go for the occasional scrub beatdown in case we are bored.

But the fact that everyone in ELP beats me in GGXX does not make you great GGXX players. I have seen what a good Jam can do, and I dare to say that the Jam I saw in AnimeExpo could beat each and every person in El Paso. That Jam was so fast that I had no idea what was going on.

Read the posts. The stick comment was a reply to Marcus saying that the CvS2 machine at UTEP was better than the MAS sticks we usually use. I'd say it is more decent that one or two, but better than the 360 sticks? Hell no.

Man There are sure alot of angry people in El Hell Hole.. :D You all should kiss and make up. Anyways i will be leaving this fucking place on friday(Wallops Island VA). I will be going to BATH Maine. One of the coldest places right now in the US. Its about -40 degrees and -100 degrees windshield temperture.. Plus there is no comp there in SF. the closest comp is in boston 4 hours away. Oh well i guess i will just pratice my combos. I can now do bisons combo on the left side. it is easier to do it on the left side for some reason. I ain't trippin on it. But let me warm up for 2 hours two then. Remember, I hadn't played the game at all in 2 months.

As for the unblockables, you didn't have a choice but to block it unless I fuck up. Only like a few characters can get out of his unblockables (even then requires either superb timing or at least enough meter for a Roman Cancel) and none of you were playing those characters.

Demetrio, guess what. Reload Eddie is gimped too, A LOT. He loses his close invite hell frc, most of his eddie attacks take more eddie meter, and his eddie meter recharges slower.

Don't get me wrong. You guys aren't horrible. Far from it, you're well above average. But you've got a lot to learn if you want to become really good.

Same goes for most of the other fighting games. Most of you don't seem to want to learn the entire game. I mean, look at 3s. I'm still teaching you guys things about the game, most of which is widely known by most 3s players. The only exception is probably CvS2, and that's because Joe and Cesar (and Lando to some extent) took a lot of fucking time to learn the game.

Honestly, of the people left in El Paso, I think Cesar's got the most potential. Every time I see him, he's improved so much more than when I lost saw him. He also takes the time to learn a lot about the game. The only thing he needs to do is stop jumping so much @_@ and work on his predictability.

That's it for now, I got off track even though it's related to the above.

To summarize, you gotta know the game if you wanna win when it counts. What you don't know can be used against you.

I couldn't even break out the practice mode before the Survivor series because I took the switch stick out of my MAS and put into my friends so he could practice some.

In any case, don't go talking shit about a video game, and then turn around and say "I got a life and a job blah blah blah," especially when you're talking to someone like me, because I don't think you've ever had to work 80 hours a week.

But whatever it is, Ian is right. Cesar became from ELP low tier in all games to ELP top tier in all games, even MvC2.

I think a problem is that we are so focused in beating each other when we play together that we forget that we can use that time learning stuff. Maybe that's why Joe, Cesar and Lando progress so fast: they are the ones who practice by themselves the most. Heck, Cesar can beat me on EFZ now. The only way I got to learn a Jam B&B was by putting quarters at Tilt's GGXX, and it shows why I suck so much at the game: I have only done it three times.

I could progress a lot more in any game if I use the time I spend at Cesar's practicing.

CEz is good, but your assumption about him learning the games more seems incorrect since he learns and primarily relies on glitches or super combos to win, which is cool but doesn't show real knowledge of the game. Anyways Cez is good he beat Joe.

Yeah, I X-copied Eddie's frickin combos w00t, but that's it. I can't copy playstyles because that goes into a lot of things like state of mind and reaction time. My play style is my own and I figure out what works and what doesn't and adapt as needed.

I'm not really trying to put you guys down, but more letting you know what needs to happen if you want to make a really good showing at Showdown.

What really irks me sometimes is that I try to tell you guys something and you don't even listen, but then you ask me for advice on the forums when I'm like 500+ miles away. Shit, the best time for me to give you advice is right after I saw you get your ass beat or something and I can tell you specifically on certain things you need to work on.

Also, Cesar needs to calm down when he plays and not whine about sticks. In fact, everyone does. Either do 2 things. Shut the fuck up and stop playing or change/fix the fucking stick. I hate fucking 360s with a passion but I don't bitch (much) when I go to play at Houston.

And Fernie needs to stop getting angry at "cheap" things. If it's allowed in a tournament, then it's fair game. Don't bitch cause Cesar roll cancels or uses big combos. Same thing with I said about the sticks; shut up or learn the shits yourself.

Other than that, you guys are pretty good. Cesar and Lando have really fucking good execution. Mike used to but he doesn't play enough anymore.

Fernie has insane reflexes. I don't see how with all that fucking smoking he does, but he's only one of 3 people I know who can punish a whiffed low forward on reaction. He needs to lay off the UOH's though because they start getting predictable and someone with better reflexes than me is going to parry and punish that shit.

I think you should give Ken a try Fernie. I think you could do really good with him.

To summarize: Stop bitching, start playing, and if you get your ass beat, sit your ass down and think about why.

Ceaser your good you just see it differntly i think about fighting you think about winning. Just think of it Capcom spent like 2000 man hours creating a game that is both visually and conceptionally pleasing. they had artist and creative people alike come up with ways to stretch Street fighter, adding moves combining grooves, but they made one small error. Now because of that should we exploit it to the point where we don't even learn the charcters and miss out on the true intentions of the game designers? But yea like i said we just see it differnt. Ok emergency here, does anyone have an extra power box for a computer?? The one on mine just died last night. Im typing this from school. ummm power box is like the part in the back that you plug in the power cord and what not. It takes some time to get used to playing on a stick. I'm definitely no fighting game guru or anything even close to that, but 1000s of other SFers and I agree, using a stick really is better. Initially, your performance is gonna drop. This is probably why you don't like sticks. But I assure you, with practice you'll get it back. I think that the execution on a stick is much cleaner, so I'm willing to bet that once you get used to it, your game will improve. Yes, it is much easier to mash on a pad... (That's why I used to use them. I can show you some mash-craziness on a pad with Talbain on Dorkstalkers.) ... but I'm pretty sure that you don't wanna be a masher. Another reason to use sticks is because ya kinda need to be able to use them to play in tourneys. A lot of tourneys are played on cabs and chances are you aren't gonna find a controlled hooked up to one. ;)

And that concludes my informative essay on pads vs sticks...

(P.S. I said "stick" a *whole* lot in this post)

well yeah your prefromance will drop but like you said... cleaner execution...

pads are like electric guitars, the distortion allows you to be a little messy, when acoustic guitars, they are depending on exact execution, such as a stick...:D

The only way I can get better at one game ( THIS IS JUST ME DAMMIT) is by having it at home, practice really hard in order to become good at it, then play other guys that are better than me.
Thats why I suck at MvC and SF3s, because I dont have the games, and every time I play you guys you beat me so fast that I can't really practice anything with you.Need to learn and practice all those combos and parrys, as well as the mechanics of the game too :lol: , like in SF3s. Now, I am more of a challenge in games that I own like CvSNK2 or GGXX, but I need to get a stick and a place to get them. The problem with kenedito is that once you play scrubs like him once, you already know all his techniques, making a second match really easy:lol: Yeah, but welcome to the forum dude. One word of advice though, start getting good at MvC2 (You know what I mean), land other fighting games as well because MvC2 is getting kind of all. Try to practice CvS2, GGXX, SF3, etc (I wont take tekken as a game:D ) so you can be more involved. Dont you think we are all experts, but we got some game going on, so I hope you get better at any game because you need and we all need some practice(dam school), but you need more:lol: . Cool so welcome.

Lando's stick is broken, but we can play something else, like Power Stone 2 or Halo and Okiragua (whatever the name is) and any other pad-keyboard based game. I can get some games if you want.

Remeber that people have different taste and learning abilities, and mine is just different but still good. The difference is that unlike them, I am way more picky when it comes to controllers, also, I play a lot less, meaning that I don't even have the same execution ability to begin with. If it were by me, I would only use three sticks:

* Lando's
* Carlos' new stick
* Carlos' old stick

If you want to make the list longer, add the sticks used in Stargate or the Gameroom. No, there is no stick in El Paso that matches those. Probably Lando's but that's it.

And I am not the only one who expresses a dislike for a particular stick. Cesar and Demetrio just cannot use Fernie's stick for example, and Demetrio cannot use Cesar's stick IIRC. So I am the one who expresses his dislike the most. That doesn't change the fact that people has stick preferences. The sticks may have the same frame, but most of them are different. Some are 8-way, some are 360s, some are a combination of both.

We all know which one is broken, you dont have to say it every time you play.

Oh well, duh. If you think I am talking to you when I say those things, think again.

You *really* do practice? As far as I know you only go to Cesar's when I give you a ride, and I don't recall Demetrio having more than one stick. And guess what? UTEP's sticks do not count.

You don't get better on sticks for the simple reason that for every hour you use a stick, you use the pad for several times the amount of time. That's like me trying to learn C++ while trying to use pointers are references, or trying to learn to use a Mac while trying to do things like in Windows (which is the main reason why a lot of people don't like Macs, for not being the same despite being better from a usability point of view, btw) or trying to play CvS2 Chun Li as if she was Third Strike Chun Li. Or like those people trying to use SNK characters in CvS2 as if it was KoF. It doesn't work.

Where is the blame on that? Whats wrong with me using the pad?

1. I played my first Final Fantasy way before your first Final Fantasy (FF1, shortly after it was released in the US).

2. My problem is with the movie-whoring, not with the game (as in the game part) themselves.

3. CC is not a real Final Fantasy, in the same way that Final Fantasy Adventure and Final Fantasy Legend were not real Fantasy Fantasy games (FFA was Seiken Densetsu, FFLs were SaGa games).

4. If it plays anything close to Seiken Densetsu 2 with the mutlitap, then it has potential of being a top tier game.

5. But then, what can be expected of someone who cannot appreciate Seiken Densetsu 2?

Movies by themselves are not a bad thing. When used properly, they really can enhance the game experience, especially when they feel like part of the game (that's why I usually prefer real-time rendering over FMV).

The main problem with movies, IMO, is that they are simply static. You cannot do anything when it happens, just sit and watch. The game stops being a game and becomes a movie. When it is done for a short period of time, you don't get the feeling that you are just sitting in the couch and not really using the controller. And when it is done real-time, you may still can have certain degree of interaction (that's why I consider the FF6's opera scene to be memorable - it could all be done in a movie, but you still get to control Celes and Locke for several moments and you get to pick what happens next). But that is not the case of several games, which is a trend that IMO, started with FF7 (and that's the why I groan when I hear of FF7). When you have movies that are 20 or 40 minutes long (Xenogears), I think there is a problem. And when the most memorable part of a game is a movie and not a part of the game itself, I think there is a big problem.

There is also another thing I don't like about modern Final Fantasies - I think they have fallen into a cycle of looking for a game's gimmick, which unfortunately can end up breaking the game. FF7's case was materia, for example. This actually started with FF6's espers, and that is actually my main gripe with FF6. The problem? Your characters lose their dependability after the game becomes all about the gimmick. The gimmick becomes so important that each character's unique skills can become obsolete. In FF6, by the end of the game there is no reason to use Sabin's Blitzes or Edgar's techs or Cyan Swordtechs, since it was all about having everyone learn Ultima and add an economizer here and there. That's what I miss of FF4 the most: losing a single character in that game could mean your doom, especially against Zeromus. You lose Rosa against Zeromus and there is no way you are going to win, since you lose life because of Black Hole and reviving anyone means another Black Hole, and the only way to survive it is to have full life -but it happens that your healer is out of commision-. You lose Rydia or Cecil and your offense is undermined a lot. For sure you don't want to lose Behemoth. The only semi-disposable character in there is Edge, who cannot do much after throwing Excalibur and all the other top weapons you stop using before the crystal weapons.

This does not translate that the new FFs are particularly easier, but one thing is to make a game difficult because you need to manage five unique characters and another is to make the game difficult because of some cheap attack.

The video is still fake. Apparently what the recorded did was to save a state at every frame, so he could backtrack whenever an error was made.

However, even if the video was done by "cheating", there should still be credit because:

1. the video DOES show that it is possible to do, given that you have robotic reflexes.
2. that video still took a freaking long time and a good amount of dedication to do.

Dude, it's Ikki.

TMNT was extremely easy. All you had to do is to AB all day. The only problem was maybe the bosses, but after a while they would be very easy to beat.

i just recently got my shoryuken.com account, and i have to say i'm surprised to see my name mentioned several times in the forums even by people who i don't know, anyway, i'm Cristian, i usually play CvS 2 and sometimes even MvC 2 at UTEP, the only names i recognized here are Lando, Nathan, Marcus, Jabel and Luis, so if anyone else here knows who i am, let me know

hey pen pen, i was reading some of the olders posts in this thread (not really old, they are from like a week ago) and i got to see some of the avatars you made for kanedito, they are actually prety good, so if you really are in the mood then yeah, i would like you to make me an avatar.
i have a few thing in mind, fisrt of all, for the picture it can be any of these characters: Fenrir (from saint seiya, the asgard saga), Testament (you obviously know who he is), Makoto Shishio from Rurouni kenshin and Loki (from Valkyrie profile)
the colors... well use whatever you think looks good depending on the character, my favorite colors are black and red but you decide, personally i would prefer the avatar of Loki, but whatever you can come up with is just fine, anyway, thanks in advance

Hey, you might remember me from Tilt. Sorry that I didn't show up that one time. I've gotten better with Mags and I also play Sent/Cable/Commando and Strider/Sent/Doom now. since no one has answered that one.... imma take a guess and say NO ONE! :p jk but i'd say the best way you can learn is to play someone way better than you... like chris (not THIS cristian) he was always playing Joel telling him to use his better team abd he kept losing and losing (by the way, he IS good, but he wasnt at a Joel level) but he kept trying anyways... myself... i kept playing joel with spiderman, rogue and guile i think... until i beat him and im picking on him everytime i see him, like: "i beat you with rogue :lol: "

but i'd say that you have to come up with your own strategies and see what works for you and your characters and try to have fun

besides it's just a game after all... ...right?..... RIGHT???
