View Full Version : SF or Other Guitar TABs?
I'm sure I'm not the only geek here who plays guitar. Anyone else tried playing their favorite tunes from any games?
I'm gonna post some tabs. Maybe someone else can do the same or request some.
Just learned Ken's theme recently from this tab, and am working on MegaMan3 intro. Original SF theme is cool too.. everytime i play it I can still remember that white dude punchig the black guy in the face. If you can find the acoustic remix of MM3 Intro on the net somewhere, you should check it out.. it's awesome.
Click attachments for the tab.

these are kinda fun to tinker with. i'd post something but i don't know any fighting game songs. but if someone knows the song from the convienent store stage of matrimelee they should really post it. i've been dying for that shit.

The bass intro for Zangief is just D E F G
One way to do it if you don't have a good ear is to disassemble one of the commonly-available midi files and just copy over the notes...
And I've seen a few fragments transcribed online here and there. Does anybody here wanna collect them all together and send them in to www.olga.net (http://www.olga.net/dynamic/browse.php?local=main/m/misc_comp_games/) ?
How do you disassemble a midi file? I you you can convert them into sheet music, but I can't read that.. :(
If you want something crazy to try, here's the squaresoft intro.
Richard

Well, you can take a midi file and convert to sheet music via musicmasterworks or similar. You could print that, but then if you can't read it, then there's probably some automated way to convert it to tab...
Anyway, I found an alternative version of Ken's that's a bit different to yours. I haven't tried to play it yet, but from a casual glance, it looks the same but just in a different key (it starts on A in the other version)
I also found a version of Ryu that starts on
B:-0-3-5
Anyway, here's one I worked out myself: Chun Li. I'm gonna use the # tag in this message so we don't need to use an attachment:
E|----0---------------------------------0-1-3-0-0---0-(0)-|
B|--3---3-1----1--------1-3-3p1h3-3p1h3-----------3-------|
G|--2---2--0-2---0-2--2-----------------------------------|
D|--0---0----2-----2--------------------------------------|
A|--------------------------------------------------------|
Then repeat up 5 frets...
Anybody want any others? And anybody tried to record themselves playing?
Hrm.. How do you use the # tag? I've never used it before. I guess I'll have to look into it.
I'll take all the tab you can spare.. it's not like they take up too much space or anything. ^_^
I've tried recording myself before, but since I'm here on an acoustic I have to use a mic. I recently aquired an mic so I'm gonna try it out.. although I can't get my soundcard to record ad play at the same time (so I can play with cakewalk and stuff). but that's another problem.
here's MM3 Intro

haha this is great, i never thought of playing these on the guitar - i'll try em out when i get home. what's your fave guitar? i'm using a Guild F-30 right now, i think it's a '67. There's a '74 LP Custom under the bed I'm too wussy to belt out, ah well.
My current guitar is a heap. The brand name is scratched off I think? ^_^ My electric is a les paul copy form the 70's but the input jack needs some work.
I just recently found a bunch of old game Mods/s3ms/its/etc. Now I can't read sheet music, but i can read the green code that flies up the screen in impulse tracker! (kinda like the matrix I guess :))
This is awesome for me because I can now see the exact notes for the bassline, lead, etc. which means I don't have to rely on my ear alone. If anyone of you guys have dabled in tracking you should check it out.
If anyone wants these mods and can't find 'em, I'll give 'em. Currently have bout 20 SF ones and 25 MM2-3 mods.
Richard

^ I think vintage gear is highly overrated, and I don't like the LP shape, but anyway...
To use the monospace tag, just press the # button when you reply, and then type the tab inbetween the code square brackets... As long as you're under about 70 characters wide, it should be fine.
So, does anybody want me to try to work out any of Blanka, Honda, Boxer or Sagat?
Also, if you want more non-SF game tabs, check that olga link above- they have Bubble-Bobble, Tetris, Zelda, MGS etc.

Here's MM3 acoustic intro as an attachment. I'm gonna try to do the full protoman theme (MM3 ending), SF2 select screen, and 1 Credit SF2 ending next.

OK, I just spent an hour with the sound test of the Sega MegaDrive version of SCE and transcribed some of the ones I hadn't seen... Most of these are incomplete, and some don't have all the notes... But it's a start, and should give you a bit of an idea of the main riffs...

After one bar of the baseline+drums, the whole piece kicks in.
This is when the high lead comes in. I've left out the h's and
p's this time because frankly, I can't even play that fast.
Try switching the notes to different strings maybe to make it
easier. The notes on the 4th string are the "bell" notes that
play with the lead.

Have any of you guys heard of Power Tab? It's a program that highlights the notes of a special type of tab as they are played along with a MIDI accompaniment. To download the Power Tab Editor used to play .ptb files go here: http://www.power-tab.net and click on Downloads. A great site to download Power Tab files from is www.powertabs.net
www.powertabs.net has a small collection of video game power tabs. At first I d/led a FFX .ptb, but it sucked so bad that I just assumed they were all shitty transcriptions. I checked out their other VG tabs just last week and some of them are actually pretty good (like the Megaman ones) even though they are probably just ripped off from someone else's MIDI.

Ok, here's my take at Blanka theme.
I'm just transcribing from a .MOD, so if the guy made the .MOD wrong,
this will be wrong. But it sounds right to me. >shrugs<
I dunno if the octaves are correct, but the notes are exactly the same
as in the mod. You might wanna try playing them on different strings
or somewhere else in the neck to maybe get a better sound.
For some reason I don't like mixing the 2 high strings with lead on
an acoustic unless I can help it.. meh..

Again, it might be easier to play or sound better if you try it
on different strings or something. Play around with the notes.

I think that's the problem. Instead of finding SF players who like the guitar, we should be finding guitar players who like SF! Simply put, the mass-market traffic effect far outnumbers the small gaming niche.
Look at it this way: shoryuken.com officially has popularity rank 57,485 on the web. In comparison, harmony-central.com has 4,698, and tabcrawler.com has 2,771.
With this in mind, I've submitted a rough version of what we have so far to taborama.com (http://www.taborama.com/archive/artist.php?id=104&a=Themes), and once I've got to grips with DM's versions, (and if he doesn't mind), I'll include them and submit the whole finished product to the biggest archive.

I just got the powertab of the theme tune and it's fuckin dead on.
Im a really competent guitarist - 5 years of playing , pretty sick set up , though i play avant garde , sonic youth type stuff [ie shit sound for japanese lead guitar type stuff] , im not too good at tabbing sadly
however i can say - for all this stuff don't use the open strings , try tabbing stuff around the 5 position ...
Werebouts' are those other midi-powertab files??

Since my last posting, the work so far has been processed and has appeared on olga.net (http://www.olga.net/dynamic/browse.php?local=main/m/misc_comp_games/)
Here's some new stuff from some midis (Zangief is OK, but I've not played Ryu at full speed so I don't know how accurate it is). Would people prefer more SF2 endings, or original stage BGMs for Alpha or SFEX?

I've been visiting your webpage for a couple of months now. I didn't know you posted here. You did a good job with your recordings (To Live Is To Die is my favorite) and I really like your lead tone. I hope you record some more tracks soon =)

Here's something I tabbed from Phantasy Star IV. I hope you guys don't mind that it isn't SF. I have transcribed it one octave lower.
In case you're wondering, it's the music that plays when Alys gets hit by the Black Wave from Zio with Dark Force projectile assist :(

I'm guessing that you're just running midis through a transcriber, such as Guitar Pro 4, Richard? In my experience, it's best to clean up the initial tab and transpose notes if needed. Some of those chord changes are just unreal.
@Fin.K.M. - Thanks. I use a POD 2.0 going directly into my soundcard for my recording. I've been meaning to do more recordings.
I know this isn't SF-related, but I recently did a record/transcription of the 'Radical Dreamers' track on Chrono Cross. Download the track here. (http://snkguitarist.com/soundfiles/wes-radical.mp3) Also have a tab of it here. (http://snkguitarist.com/tab/wes-radicaldreamers.txt) I winged the ending lead in B.
What I'd really like to do is Ken's music in Street Fighter Alpha 2, but it's hard to find a good backing drums and bass for it. I know it could sound real good, too. I've also started to transcribe Guile's theme from Super Turbo.

Actually, all the work on the original 12 was transcribed by me by ear on a keyboard, and then translated. Most of it hasn't been played at full speed yet (hence the need to have people proof-play the stuff and report any errors).
However, 3 of the New Challengers, as well as the 2 endings above, are indeed from a midi- I got the sheet music printed onscreen, and then just worked the notes out from there.
Anyway, the other day I spent about an hour listening to SFEX (Shinji Hosoe/Ayako Saso/Takayuki Aihara). I listened to each tune about 3-4 times, and this is what I came up with. Anybody to fill in the many gaps?

I just looked though five srk music threads covering over 10 pages, and it would appear that after SF2, the most popular tunes are:
Alpha: Australia (Sagat?), Ryu, Sakura and Guy, followed by Rose, Karin, Rolent (and notable mentions to Bison, Adon)
SFEX: They all get high votes, but Guile, Garuda and Sakura stand out. With that in mind, I've tabbed some of Garuda (see below)
Three: The main ones are Dudley, Yun, Akuma, Ibuki, then a big gap, and then Elena, Urien, Ken.
Any volunteers to work on any of these? By my rough count, they are what people want...

Hey guys,
I just wanted to post up to keep this thread going. I play Guitar AND SF seriously. I've been playing for over 10 years. I mainly play 80's shred type stuff, some blues, and classical. I'll give these tabs a spin and tell you what I think. I'm also interested in Guilty Gear tabs too. They have the best guitarwork.

I've been playing guitar a few years now and I can't read music but I have a good ear so I've figured out some things. I submitted a guitar tab to video game jam for the Marvel vs Capcom 2 theme a while back, although I'm not sure how accurate it is anymore.
I recently submitted a tab for T Hawk's theme to them, and I think it's pretty accurate.
Here's the MvC2 theme-

Richard keepin' it real.. :P
When I get a guitar again (in a week or two) I'll see if I can elaborate/verify/whatever-the-hell-you-want this stuff.
I'm big on rhythm/chords and not so much leads, so maybe I can rig up some backing riffs.

Does anyone have SF2/Alpha1/2's Ryu Stage bass tabs?
You mean the same tune, right? I suppose you could play the opening notes of the guitar part from the SF2 stage on the bass... there are some versions in the archives I link before.
Anyway, here are some more from SFA3:"Final Round", also used in Survival and Dramatic Battle modes

Just a reminder that for the time being, the most recent versions of the 3 main SF series can be found at tabalorium.com (http://tabalorium.com/browse/Miscellaneous.html)

I just finished recording the Final Fantasy 3 (6) dramatic boss theme you can check out here:
Download Here (2.2mb) (http://vgtab.net/soundfiles/wes-rock.mp3)
If anybody is interested in a tab I can whip one up. It's not that hard to play, though.

Keep the recordings coming!
Also, with the recent oldie compilations, has anybody thought about doing GunSmoke or Bionic Commando?

Does anyone use a electric guitar?
Just have some questions about them and well guitars in general. Quite new to them.
1. How do you replace broken strings in a guitar?
2. Was thinking of buying a electric guitar maybe sometime in the future. Possibly a fender strat http://www.musiciansbuy.com/FENDER_STD_STRAT_RW__kit2.html . Was wondering why are some more expensive than others. Does that depend on what type of material is used on the guitar? Do they all sound the same? Can't think of any other questions right now other than those at the moment.

Anyone mind tabbing Geese's stage from KOF 1996? I LOVE that version and I think the guitar is God Tier there.

I submitted a guitar tab to video game jam
How exactly do you do that? A few months ago, I tried to use the email address on the site and it bounced back... What's the procedure, and how long does it usually take?

There is a guitar thread in the GD forum that may get you better results than posting in this mummified thread.
