View Full Version : Change The Music For Marvel, CVS2, AND Third Strike
The 4Day Ibuki
03-22-2004, 05:29 PM
I've seen a few threads where people ask about making custom remixes for the dc versions of marvel, cvs2, and 3s so ill post it here...........if anyone has any questions on how to make customs just post what problems or questions u have and ill help u out to my full potential......ive made remixes of all these games but note i only know how to make non selfboot versions......any questions?
Have you ever come across a problem for Third Strike where the dreamcast will return to the browser when you access certain tracks? For me, it seems to do this because the CD is actually nearly two times its original size due to the length of the music tracks. When the CD was only slightly larger than normal I had no such problems.

how big were all the files combined before u added all ur custom music?
Around 300 mb. It is around 500 now.

(Possible threadjack, I apologize) Im working on making a three in one (four if I can squeeze Ikaruga in it as well) disc for DC with cvs2, mvc2, and 3S on it. In order to make them fit, Im going to have to remove two out of three of the musics for each stage (at least thats the plan so far) on third strike. I also realized that I can make the music configurable, like give an option for CvS2 tunes in 3S, MvC2 tunes, or original tunes, or even a greatest hits combination. What I need is feedback on which tunes to use.
Namely, are there any tunes for any stage on any of these games that seem to fit the theme of any stage on any of the other games. (Boy, thats a sentence.) If you always thought that the hip hop music on the 'I love beer' new york stage of cvs2 would be kickin on the carnival at night stage of mvc2, let me know. What's your favorite picks from each of these 3 games?
And yes, there will be an option to turn of the 'wanna take you for a ride....' repeat of doom and all of the announcer on cvs2. God, I hate those. Ill explain how after I release it in a few weeks.
And Ibuki, turning the non-boots into selfboots is dead easy. Get the Echelon self boot kit from megagamescopy, and read it.

sifu - ok we've prolly got the same image file because mine was about that big to begin with and its now prolly 450-500mbs and ive had no problems running it..........BUT i have come across a problem where it returned to the menu screen once so i stuck the cd back in my drive and found out i had one of the adx files named wrong..........maybe thats what u have going......if i were u i would start from scratch and add each one of ur custom tracks to the game in sets of three and make sure the window that pops up saying "do u wanna replace blah blah with blah blah" comes up 3 times for each file.........and do that untill all ur music files are in the game then burn..........so as long as u dont reach that 645mb limit (i think thats what it is) then errrrthing should be all gravy...........try it and see what happens cuz u can never be too safe
toodles - u mean u can put all 3 games on one cd??? and play them in a dc?? i wanna know how to do that give me some info..........as for 3s with the tracks u would be able to take 2 of the 3 tracks out but u would have no music playing for the 2nd,3rd, 4th and so on rounds........just the first round would play music........trust me i know.......does sound interesting tho.........maybe for 3s u should take just one song and use a program to cut the one song into 3 different segments that would make the file sizes smaller......thats what ive done to my remixes of 3s.... so it wouldnt have a new song starting at the beginning of each round u know so it kinda blends and all..........i dunno......tell me what u think but i wanna know how u put 3 games on one disc
holla at ya boy

For mvc2 any of the files that start with ADX-S are the music files.
Anything with just like ADX is mainly sound files. You need to change the extension from bin to adx. then you can use a program called cinepack to listen to the file in adx form. To import music ya gotta do a bunch of converting and ish!

usually alls i gotta do is pop the burned game into my drive and click on the drive icon then copy all the files over to my harddrive........i got a list of the music files that are in marvel, cvs2 and 3s and if anyone wants them then pm me on aim its "mojo makoto" and ill hook it up
as for putting ur own music into the game u'll have to first use winamp (which i find the easiest and most effecient to use) to convert ur mp3 to wav files............then ull have to use a lil program call ADXENCD to convert the wav files to adx..........adx files are the dreamcast's own version of mp3's sort to speak.......anyway once uve got that done and its pretty easy to do u just rename ur file to match the ones in the game and replace them and burn........if anyone has any q's about getting the adxencd program then ill be happy to provide it along with a tuturiol on how to use it and the lists for the games music files and what not...........just gimme a holla
also if u dont wanna use winamp for converting mp3's to wav then there is this program i use especially for 3s.....its called mp3 wav converter or something like that but it can convert mp3s to wav as well as slice them into different segments so u can end a song or begin a song at whichever point of the song as u please.......good for 3s mixes but its only a trial and u have to pay for the key unfortunately........good program overall tho

PM sent Ibuki.
If anyone needs selfboot questions answered, toss away. Easy as crap. And if your scared of the command line, dont bother. Linux users get prefferential treatment
Yeah, 535 mb and it still doesn't work. Lol, the file names are named correctly because if you quickly skip to the options screen without playing the intro and stuff, you can play all the tracks in the music player. Pretty confusing. Oh well, thanks for trying.

toodles - got ur pm....thanks for the info but would u happen to know if that site u gave me have step by step information on how to make the compilations? just wondering i havent gotten the chance to check it out just yet.......work is killing me...........anyway about ur whole idea about making the same track play for each round for that one stage kinda sounds a little iffy to me........the average rounds only last about 30-45 seconds so y would u wanna hear the first 30 secs of the same song each round? i dunno..........if it were me i would just sacrifice ikaruga and put custom music on the game.......cuz who will wanna play marvel....then 3s.......then cvs2.......THEN ikaruga....i mean the game is great and all but it just doesnt fit into that fighting style the rest of the cd has goin.......but i dunno maybe im wrong but good luck with all..........imma look into that compilation cd tho it sounds vedy vedy interrestin...........about those lists for the audio tracks for each game........ill just go ahead and post them later today when i wake up cuz im pretty damn tired right now and i really dont feel like doin shit but sleeping.......try to understand ill get to it as soon as i wake up
sifu - well man the custom i made totals at 551 megs..........and it works great.......provided me and my friends hours of really good 3s battles and they are all caught on tape btw........anyway if i were u i wouldnt give up so soon......maybe u do have a file named wrong maybe u dont but just start from scratch and see if it happens again..........try playing the game on another dc..........make another boot disc and try it with that.......just explore ur options before u call it quits.....if u want i have the cdi image for the japanese version of 3s and its about 300 megs if not a lil more i could prolly send it to u if u have dc++..........get back with me on that if ur interested
holla
Yeah, I haven't given up. Just that I've tried more or less every option available to me as of now (it has been six months, no dice). Lol, I must have went through at least 20 CDs just on 3S customs.
Let's go through my process to see if I'm doing anything wrong.
1) extract all files from the non-self boot CD image
2) Gather wavs and convert them to adx
3) Rename adx files accordingly and replace the original files
4) Burn CD (Is this the problem? All I do is burn the files straight onto CD. And it works perfectly fine if I don't change the filesize too much. I use MODE1, MODE2/XA CDs aren't read by the boot disc for some reason. Although I hear you need to use MODE2/XA for selfboot.)
Is there something that I'm missing? I'm thinking something is wrong in my last step.

Sifu, what cd burning program are you using?
Lol, what CD Burning program HAVEN'T I used. DiscJuggler, Alcohol 120%, Nero, CDRWin... the list goes on. But I'm trying to first suceed with non-selfboot before I go onto selfboot, so...
The 4Day Ibuki
03-23-2004, 03:17 PM
well imo nero is the better one to use if u have to burn a set of files.........if u only have to burn the image then go discjuggler.......but of course if its a .nrg file then u'll have to use nero on that too............
sifu - is that game thats giving u trouble selfboot or nonselfboot????
im gathering all the songs for my secong 3s mix........if anyone wants a copy of the first mix i can provide it.......hmmmm lets see i guess if u have dc++ then u could always go in the go for broke hub and look for me and ill be glad to share it........dunno........if anyone's interested get witt me

Yeah, since I have been trying to just do non-selfboot, I've been using nero. But in my quest to figure out what was going wrong, I tried more or less every other CD burning program. What are your exact settings for nero when you burn your non-selfboot file?

4day Ibuki: In your 3s music list you had:
"66_p_se2 = not sure?"
If memory serves that file is the clip that plays for character selection in versus mode. I know I messed this up on my remixed copy. I changed the char selection music in arcade mode, but not versus. :(
As for selfboots. I took a non-selfboot MvC2 and just took a file from my selfboot copy of 3s and burnt it and MvC2 was then selfbootable. Taking selfboots and making them re-selfboot was a bit more involved (going into Dos and such), but after doing it once it only takes like 15 minutes. I used to selfboot everything, but its been a while since I've remixed so I'm rusty on it all.

finally got adxencd workin...i suggest that ppl should create a batch file, so instead of doing the same cmmd over and over for each song, it converts all da songs at da same time...
*Adxencd program & WAV files in C:\adxencd folder*
To make a batch file
1)Open notepad
2)Then type in
"adxencd "filename1.wav"
"adxencd "filename2.wav"
"adxencd "filename3.wav"
Make sure you have spaces between each cmmd..
3)Then save it
4) Change the the .txt extension of the notepad file to .bat
5) Then make the location of the adxencd program start in the command prompt.... ie: C:\adxencd>
6) Then you can just drag the .bat file in teh command prompt..then it will convert your selected songs at the same time

A3 is just too big; it almost takes up an entire disk by itself, and I can't find any easy way of trimming the size down like I could with 3S. Same for Vamp Chronicles, and the non KOF neogeo titles like Garou, LastBlade 2, Twinkle Star Sprites (don't laugh, I love that game.), etc. SSF2:ST is pretty small, and I could probably fit it in a compilation with cvs2, mvc2, or 3S (pick two. they are all roughly 200-300 megs in size) but for some reason I can't get ST to run when started from the browser. So, unless someone knows the trick to it, it aint gonna happen.
You listed one song for each stage, but each stage has 3 tracks. Did you break the songs up, or how'd you put them in?

anyway i got this music editor and i must say it is fabolous.........u can cutt mp3's into segments however u see fit.......so u dont have to worry about say a song getting start in the middle of a chorus or something like that.........anyway.........i cut all the songs up into 3 sections and made them all blend together so when the round changes its not all shitty sounding........guys ive played the game with say its sounds really good
name of the program btw is MP3 WAV EDITOR.......great program but u gotta buy the license for it sorry

Im almost done with having all three (MvC2,CvS2,and 3S) in one disc. No need to to make one with just two :)
Do you have a list of which track goes to which stage for 3S? Just the three letters at the end would work (CHI, SHI, Q, MEX, etc) if you have it. Mainly, I wanted to know which one was Gill's, so I could swap them with the three tracks for Abyss on MvC2.
Progress: I know which tracks will be used for the 3S soundtrack, CvS2 soundtrack, MvC2 soundtrack, and 'Best Mix' soundtrack for each of the three games. Thats at least 4 soundtracks for each games (ie MvC2 will have an original soundtrack, a CvS2 soundtrack, a 3S soundtrack, and a 'Best Mix' soundtrack) A little work tonite on cleaning up the menu and flexing my weak PShop and HTML skills and it'll be all done. Hope for a release before Wednesday.

Hi, all im new to this forum.
Ive got myself in a bit a trouble and need help, i myself have changed ADx-trcks for CvS2 with no problems. But i cant seem to burn back CDr correctly.
1.I have extracted my selfboot copy of CvS2 onto my harddrive.
2.Converted/changed its ADx files to my own music tracks.
So how do i and burn the game back to a blank CD to play on my dreamcast?
I just get confused in doing so.
session 1 >track 1,.. Session 2 >track 2 >iso-ECHELON . (my resuslts of burning should look like this, but dont)
so basically, ive done all the hardwork (weeks of remixing old classic game music into ADx files, ect). but cant burn the thing back to play!
If anyone could help in how i can do so?
Thnx in advanced.

Because its only a little more work to get it to selfboot; saves wear and tear on your DC; you can put your own grapic in the IP.BIN to be displayed with the Sega logo when it boots, you can give it to a friend without having to burn a bootdisk for them as well, you can make the first session audio your own track of whatever you want, so if they put it in a cdplayer and play it, they get your 'this is for yer DC, dumbass' message you recorded, or perhaps the soundtrack for the game if you're so inclined.
Its like having a chip instead of a swap cartridge for your PSX. Sure, you can swap, but its a pain in the ass. I just want to put the disc in and play.
PS: Shaolin, I think yer PM's are full. Send an email or show up on msn/aim sometime.

The big question is if the command line cdrecord.exe supports your burner. If it does, its simple. Just follow the directions in the echelon selfboot tutorial. There are steps in there for using cdr-win as well, but cdrecord.exe and mkisofs.exe are totally the way to go. Everyone at first can't get it right. Here's the trick: Print it out, and do it LINE BY LINE. If you follow it exactly, youll have a working disc. If it bjork's up, you either missed a step or did something out of order. Go through it, beginning to end, for every disc.
If you can't get cdrecord.exe or cdr-win methods to work, grab bin2boot and try that instead. Maybe Ill see about getting camtasia to video record it, but god, what a boring video it would be. It would all be on the DOS prompt and exactly what the Echelon tutorial says. Here's what it would look like:
cdrecord --dev=0,0,0 --speed=1 -multi audio.raw
cdrecord --dev=0,0,0 -msinfo
< 0,11702
move data\1st_read.bin data\IP.BIN .
BINHACK
> 1st_read.bin
> IP.BIN
> 11702
move 1st_read.bin data\
mkisofs -C 0,11702 -V ToodlesRox -l -o data.iso data/
IPINS
> IP.BIN
> data.iso
cdrecord --dev=0,0,0 -xa1 data.iso
Thats it, in all its glory, for non-cdda Katana games (like 3s, cvs2, and mvc2)

Thanx that "how to make selfboots non selfboots" worked perfect..
But the tracks (Adx files) ive replaced dont play in the game.
Ive copy and pasted the selected track names, so that aint the problem, i think my problem is that i need to make the adx files actually ADX-bin files IE:
ADX_ST02.bin
(the adx files in MvC2 are in 'Bin' format). Ive got al my adx files reday, now i need to change the .ADX to .Bin If you understand what i mean..
Its prob realy simple, but i dont know how ??
Mine: ADX (adx format)
Target: ADX (bin format) ?
RaNcOr

Just manually change their extention to .bin. It will wil you some BS warning about them not working, just ignore it. Just right click on them and it will show their filename backspace the .adx and make it .bin.

your dam right, i first tried it and the sample quality was shit (fuzzy).
Adxencd does the job 'properly'..
Anyways ive extented the files to bin by using isobuster and then manually converting them to Bin..
THnx anyways.
BTW, I noticed that (the next game i wanted to change the music in) IKARUGA does not have any ADX files to change/mess with?? does anyone know of its sound format?

Hmm, Two things.
1) I am having trouble changing my self boot into a non self boot. I am using the zer-mvc2 cdi image and whenever I extract it using isobuster instead of getting "TMP.ISO i get FIXED.ISO and HEADER. I have no clue what to do from here, as I treat fixed as tmp.iso and all I burn are coasters.
2) Mojo, I have a pretty good all techno track list i was hoping to make for 3s if you are interested, as I could send you some of the rarer songs i have listed, hit me on aim if you want it.
EDIT: Nvm, I just burned a fully working non self boot version, i was just using the wrong burn mode. THANKS to SIFU for the mode 1 info, i never saw that before. YOu are a LIFESAVER man, my last blank and it worked.

Just a note for anyone modifying SF3:3S:
Dont use looped music for the VS song.
The VS splash screen seems to stay on the screen until the sound clip is over; It it is looped, you'll never get past the versus screen. I was toying with one of the altered soundtracks on the 3-in-1, and noticed it when I used the MvC2 clip for the after game win pose (adx_wins I think) in place of the 3S vs clip, it would never leave the vs screen, just kept looping.
On verion 8 beta, and I think this is the last bug to squash I know of.

Surprisingly, squeezing 3S down to size and fitting them all on a cd was the easy part; havent had any problems with that. The pain has been the details. Getting the HTML menu to look cool, getting planetweb splash screens changed, getting VMU saves on the disc so you never have to worry about unlocking stuff, that stuff has been the pain, but should all be fixed. I thought I finally had everything working perfect until I tried the 3S with MvC2 soundtrack and noticed the VS screen taking forever.....grrrrr. Im a gonna take a coupla days to test out each soundtrack option, but it should be soon.

Anyone got any good links on making my non-self booting image self booting? if not I'll find stuff just if anyone knows of any specific good text about it plz hook up the link. Anyway, per makotos request I'll list some of the songs I put on the game, I put 3 different songs per stage (had to remove the dummy file to make space).
Character select: Vibrant Thing - Q-tip
ken / alex: 3 tracks by Benefit, so sick, procceed with caution, and his old rapstation winning entry.
12 / necro: r1: Da Doo ron ron - The Donnas r2: Boy Like You - The Donnas r3: Art Star - The Yeah Yeah Yeah's
Hugo: 3 different song by the metal band Death
Chun Li: r1: Dare to be Stupid - Wierd Al r2: Transformers the movie theme - Lion r3: The Touch - dunno who by it's off the transformers the movie st
Ryu - Some songs my friends made
Ibuki - Songs from the new shinobi ost
Makoto - r1: Bow to the Masta - Kool Keith r2: In Between Us - Scarface / Nas r3: Miles to the Sun - Heiroglyphics
Akuma - r1: John Blaze - nas pun etc r2: We the Realest Label - Eminem diss track r3: Ghettallion - Tragic Accidents
Elena - 2 tracks by Alec Empire, r3: We Have Explosive - Future Sound of London
Sean / Oro: r1: a beat by DJ Krush r2: Cannibal Ox - Battle for Asgard r3: Virus - Del
dudley - r1: I wanna hold your hand - Beatles r2: Twist and Shout - Beatles r3: Sweet Home Alabama
Yang/Yun - 3 Mr. Lif tracks
Remy: 2 lady tron, 1 my favorite
Q: tracks by friends
Urien: song by friend, song by I am the world trade center, song by neutral milk hotel
gil: r1: making of a cyborg - ghost in the shell, a dieselboy song, Dirty Beats - Roni Size
got kinda lazy with exact track names towards the end, but I had to check the bg sound player from my disc as I didn't make any kind of notation when I replaced the adx files.
edit: forgot to mention, on alot of the rap tracks I cut off some of the intros to the songs so like right as it hits FIGHT the guy starts rapping. (on my next mix, more metal / loud music, less rap I think)

gamingnow.net,
Have a ball and run with it. I know I need 4 jpg that are 640x480 that are boot up splash screens for the browser, and the first thing people will see when they boot the disk. The browser chooses a random one on each boot, and I just pulled some wallpapers from a google image search and used them for the current version; If you can make something that looks better, bring it on.
Another one about the same size is needed for the 'Press Start to continue' page before the main menu. Same size, single 640x480 jpg, but has to have the 'press start' message somewhere on it, good sized so its readable by someone watching the tv. Currently, Im using the original one from the XDP browser.
The main menu I have now is a single image using an HTML image map to make the decisions. There is a cover from each of the three games, overlapping, and rotated slightly differently so they dont look boxy, and 'option' and 'browser' written vertically on the left hand side, with all of this over a stretched image from the propaganda wallpaper series. This one I think looks pretty pretty good for an amateur like me, but Ill happily consider alternatives. Main goal of this picture is to have obvious large places to click for each of three games, the options page, and the browser page.
The option page I would love to see what someone with more talent could do. I need a way to choose each of the three games, with 4 different soundtracks each (original, Other game 1, other game 2, and best mix) Right now its still a single image map, with thumbnaill of the cover of the game on the left, and the name of the soundtrack written in white to the right of it. Be creative as long as its usable.

When you turn the DC on, you get the DC bouncy logo, then the Sega splash, then it shows a splash screen (1 of 4 random, sf-themed), then the XDP page that you hit start on, then the menu comes up. You select the game (or options, then the game with the chosen soundtrack) and it loads it up. So most will show the first ADX logo, then the capcom logo. No extra sega logo. The menu is kinda slow to load (45 seconds+?) but the games load hella fast from the menu

Standard reset for all DC games is all buttons (may just be A+B+X+Y+Start, but I aways do A+B+C+X+Y+X+Start on my stick) which will take you to the front screen of the game your in. Doing it again will reboot your DC.

I don't know how to burn the 4-second audio track separately in Nero. I made like 5 coasters. I tried mixed mode, but it wouldn't allow me to put the audio.raw file in the compilation. My instructions are for CDRWin, so I've always used it.. I've always been told Nero is a better program, but I've never really used it. I think WinXP SP 2 nuked my aspi layer. I reinstalled aspi, no help. HBO?

Can I get a nsb 1st_read and ip files, put them in the data directory, and then run them thru a sb program? Finding nsbs will be a problem, I haven't touched a boot disc or a nsb game in years.

Find a way to get cdrecord to work. ASPI layer problems are very common, and usually can be fixed by putting in a proper ASPI layer. Many links off google on how to do this. Just remember, you are going to need cdrecord in order to find out the LBA of the disc after the raw audio is burned (the 'cdrecord -msinfo' step). Run cdrecord -scanbus and see if it will find your cd-rw.
Guide about ASPI layer and using ForceASPI (http://aspi.radified.com/)
Caveat: I have not following the directions on this page personally, so I dont vouch for its accuracy. But, really, it ain't hard.

1st off, I got the 1st_read file from earlier in the thread, I'll try that. Thanks.
2nd, I even tried ForceASPI. CDRWin just doesn't wanna work. The rest of my burning progams work, CDRWin won't work on my machine anymore. I think it's SP2.
What would you suggestI use to make nsb to sb, so I can burn to Nero?

Actually, I mentioned it in my first post. I know how to use it, It doesn't work either. No scanbus, no msinfo, no burn, no anything. I've been using the Echelon kit since it came out. I jut never needed an alternative. The only change I can think of is trying WINXP SP2. Truthfully, I really don't want to have to go back, everything else is really good (especially the new built-in Pop-Up Blocker).
So basically, is there a simple way to assemble a selfboot game without the Echelon toolbox method? I have spent all day toying with ASPI. Everything else works, don't know what to do.

I think a tutorial would be real kool It would be real helpful for me and whoever else is interested. I would like to make one like u did but instead of a 3 in 1 I would just make it for MvC2 and being able to pick different mixes since i play this game the most but still a tutorial would be awsome.

It may be possible in Windows, but I don't know how. I had to use linux to pull it off. For those with good linux experience who want to know, its easy. If two files are hard linked (NOT symlinked), mkisofs will automatically make them linked in the ISO. That's all I have to say about that.

k I have two parts to my problem.
I've gotten to the end of burning a custom RM mvc2 cd.
in the middle of the process, when you input
"mkisofs -C x,y -V ECHELON -l -o data.iso data "
I ended up needing to omit the -1 after the echelon and before the -o (tho I acutally used something that began w/ a g instead of echelon...) for some reason it worked.
the next problem was after the final burn, I get an error at the end that says this:
"Error: 'WRITE' command failed on device 1:0:0
Illegal command request (04h 00 02h 05h 63h 00h)"
I also ended up having to upgrade my cdrwin to the latest version cuz the one I got initially wasnt detecting my burning drivers... if that makes a difference

the adx music converter, the dummys, the cdrwin etc... the difference is, I used a video tutorial as well to help me make it.

First off all, I just wanted to make sure you are using the numbers that 'cdrecord -msinfo' gave you, prolly 0,11702 or 0,11700 if it isnt a CDDA game. If you are actually using the letters x and y iin that switch, It aint gonna work.
Secondly, the switch after the -V ECHELON is '-l' or 'minus elle', not a number '1'. That allows filenames past 8.3 characters, I think up to 32 characters. -l means 'long file names'
Third, is doesnt matter what you put after the -V, as long as its a single word (no spaces). It can be 'echelon', 'gbursine', even 'tdc_final'. What you put there specifies the name of the volume. You know how your D: drive (whatever your cdrom drive letter is) will show up as 'echelon' when you put the resulting disc in your cdrom? Thats why.
the next problem was after the final burn, I get an error at the end that says this:
"Error: 'WRITE' command failed on device 1:0:0
Illegal command request (04h 00 02h 05h 63h 00h)"
Sounds like this program didnt like your cdr. Since its at the end, I doubt it is a driver or ASPI problem. Slow it down and burn at least possible speed. If you can, take the chance and use cdrecord.exe on the command line. So much better control, and more reliability for booting selfboots.

thanx toodles and trunks.
I redid the dummy file so that it was 675 mb instead of 680. then I redid the iso so that it had that -l in it.
I then ran it at 4x as trunks advised.
I dont know which affected it, but on my 6th cd(3rd cd this round), it finally worked... thanx again all

Does it get to the Produced by or under license from Sega screen? If you get the balls, than nuthin, you forgot the IPINS step, or left a IP.BIN in the root directory of the cd. If you get the Produced by or.... screen, and then resets, you either left the IP.BIN in the root directory, or you didn't set the LBA on the executable to the proper number, or you didnt use the right LBA in the mkisofs step when making the ISO, or the IP.BIN isn't pointing to the right executable name. Just a couple of things to check on.

Hye what sup man.
Well I have the same problem gbursine mentioned (just like him I fallow a the Video tutorial on how to createa bootable mvc2...maybe the tutorial is for none-bootable to bootable...?) .
I went over ur problems and corrections list and I think that my problem as well as other might just be that the IPINS
> IP.BIN
> data.iso
is not doing its job for whatever the reasons cuz when I searched for the IP.BIn file in my 7+ coasters the file is no where to be found.
isn't ipins suppost to insert the new hacked ip.bin file as a replament for the remove IP.BIN(the one u're are suppose to remove from the data file and place outside...where in the selfboot dir)?
It might just be that we need to use another ip.bin file...the one from a Utopia bootCD (like achelon recommend in his tutorial?) maybe?
I don't know much so please somebody help me/out....
this is my 7th coaster...almost broke man....danm

Hehe. You're misunderstanding what the IPINS does. The IP.BIN isn't really supposed to be a 'file'. You won't see it on a self boot. The IPINS replaces the first 32k of the iso; its not on the file system as a file. Its like a boot sector of a floppy drive or hard drive. Its the first thing that gets read, before the computer even knows what a file system is. If you're following the steps properly, you will not see an file called IP.BIN in the root directory of the cd. (You'll notice I listed there being an IP.BIN on the cd as the possible cause of his problem.) This video that is being spoken of, I have no knowledge of it, so can't point out anything that could help. I do know that the echelon method for non-cdda Katana games works flawlessly on getting the three main capcom fighters selfbooted.
isn't ipins suppost to insert the new hacked ip.bin file as a replament for the remove IP.BIN(the one u're are suppose to remove from the data file and place outside...where in the selfboot dir)?
Kinda, except that on a selfboot disc, it isn't a file. The first 32k of the second session contains a little bit of information and a little bit of code, just enough to tell the DC how to read the filesystem(thats the code), and what file on the filesystem to load and execute (which is why binhack asks for the name, such as 1st_read.bin). The Utopia bootdisc needed a way to know which file on the backup to run first, so the people doing the ripping copied this boot sector information off of the original, and put it in a file on the backup called IP.BIN. Utopia reads this file from the backup, and runs the executable it says to run. Since a selfboot is fooling a DC into thinking it is an original disc, you do need to have the same boot sector information that would be present on an original, but since you aren't using the Utopia bootdisc, there is no need for an IP.BIN to be present as a file on the disc.
This description is riddled with trivial errors overlooked for the sake of simplicity, but the concept is correct.
It might just be that we need to use another ip.bin file...the one from a Utopia bootCD (like achelon recommend in his tutorial?) maybe?
Doubtful, but possible. With most games, the IP.BIN information is entirely interchangable. I think mine are all using an IP.BIN for Virtua Striker or some crap. As long as its a Katana game and not WinCE, I don't think it matters one lick. Chances are messed up on the number you used for your LBA, or didn't run BINHACK on all of the executable files needed. It sounds like cdrecord.exe and mkisofs are working properly on your machine. Perhaps you should try one of the selfboot batch files to help you?

pvp's??? You must mean .pvr. But your post doesnt make much sense. If you mean that these files are on the cd you burned, and it wont boot, it is prolly a version that needs the Utopia bootdisc. If the files you original got were a single .BIN and .CUE, then it definitely is. Try to use the echelon self boot tutorial (link in this thread, dont ask) to see if you can self boot it. If you cant figure that out, use the bootdisk, or download a proper .cdi for Diskjuggler

I dumpped all of the files off a selfbooting copy of CvS2, which gave me about 600 .bin files and several folders with .pvr's .jpg's and others. I try to burn these files but to no avial, i have tried a Dc-X boot disc but still no results. Since this didn't work i used alcohol 120% image making wizard to make a single image from the game, which burns and selfboot fine. But the thing is, is that the game has a crappy ass custom soundtrack that i want to change. I try to make a single image from the files on my hard drive but it doesn't work, and none of the programs i use support all of the different types of files i have. I'm i doing somthing wrong? All i pretty much have to do is get all of the files on a disc. How can I do this? Can i convert the .bin files? Or make all of the files one image? Any ideas would be great, im desperate, i've been messing with this for three weeks now.

You cant just burn the files over again and yes you will need to make all the files into a image....just like toodles said, you need to dl the echelon selfboot tutorial and follow it step by step...

Ok this guide here can be used to boot selfboot games to selfboot.Tested and everything(did cvs2 and marvel).
How to change and customize Music for DC games (general tutorial).... I have done this w/ a few Capcom games already w/ .ADX sound, have not tried w/ .AFS yet:
Things you will need (I will either find links or post them somewhere):
1)Echelon Selfboot Toolkit
2)Isobuster (a newer ver. recomended)
3)cdrecord (included w/ echelon kit)
4)CDrwin
5)The music you're gonna add (.wav format duh)
6)adxencd (to encode) and Cinepack (to listen, jap)
7)Dummy file
and various other tools lol, I think most should be in the echelon toolkit
For simplicity sake make two folders in the root directory of of your hard drive that look like this:
C:\adxencd (put adxencd.exe in here)
and
C:\selfboot (put Echelon toolkit in here)
Step 1
Throw the Backup disc for the game you want to edit the bg music for and find out which files are used for the stages. Since I can't get Cinepack to play the .adx files like it should on my OS I use educated guesses which hasn't failed me yet. For MvC2 the files were labeled ADX_SXXX.BIN (XXX being a combination of numbers representing the stage ie. 020), for PowerStone the stage files were labeled ST_SXX.ADX (XX represents the stage number ie. 0A)... right now I am working on Heavy Metal Geomatrix, the files have the actual song names ie. MOTOPSYCHO.ADX....
here is a sample list for the stages in MvC2 (actual stage list):
ADX_Sxxx.BIN <-- the xxx are for the numbers below.
ELC - Select screen
000 - The Pirate Ship Stage
010 - Desert
020 - Inside the factory
030 - Carnival Stage
040 - Bridge stage
050 - Blue Underground Cave
060 - Clock Tower
070 - Ice Boat Stage
080 - Abyss 1
090 - Abyss 2
0A0 - Abyss 3
0B0 - Training
another Capcom note... the player select and stage select is usually abreviated w/ a SELC.ADX or .BIN ie. ADX_SELC.BIN or P_SELE.ADX or other variations.
OK, so now select the music that you want to have for the bg music... get it into .wav format (however you want), I think you should be able to that w/out a tutorial .
-Increase the volume of the music using soundrecorder which should already be on your OS. Just go to start ---> programs ---> accessories ---> entertainment ---> sound recorder.
-Open your .wav file up and then hit effects and increase vol by 25%. I usually increase mine twice then save it.
-Change the name of all of the files so that they match the name of the bg music files you want to replace. ie. Blade - bloodrave.wav becomes ADX_S010.wav etc.... (rename them for the stage that you want if you care to find out). The name must be all in CAPS and notice the 0 <-- zeros not O's.
-Put all your .wav files into the C:\adxencd\ folder on your hard drive.
Step 2
To change the .wav files to .adx you need to use adxencd (no... really???)--> yes, but the problem is it's not designed for Windows, so you need to use MS DOS prompt.
I hope you know how but if not do this:
-Press the Start button, go to Programs, Accesories, MS-DOS.A window will pop, it will say C:\WINDOWS or something, now type cd C:\ and press return. On the next line type cd adxencd and press return, it should now say C:\adxencd, if not, then the folder "adxencd" is not in your hard drive, so go and fix it.
Now with the C:\adxencd on screen, its time to change the wavs to adxs. To do that you need to type "adxencd" and the name of the wav, hit return.
Example:
C:\adxencd>adxencd ADX_S040.wav
Some info will appear. Now check the "adxencd" folder to see your brand new adx file. Do the same with the rest of the songs you want to convert.
Note: If you want them to loop... you READ the following RECOMENDED:
ExtraStep: Looping songs (optional)
When a song stops playing, you will hear nothing more than silence, if you want them to repeat you need to check the number of bytes that appear whne you are converting. (ie. 9456043... a nice long number like that )
You should take note of that number.... so go and write it down.
Now repeat the wav to adx step but this time add: -lps0 -lpe_______ (Replace the line with the number you got)
Full example: C:\adxencd>adxencd ADX.S040.wav -lps0 -lpe9456043
(and yes those l's are L's, as in loop not I's or 1's)
Do the same with the other songs.
--------------------------
Before going any further, you would obviously want to check if your adxs work or not, so open the "Cinepack" folder and open Cinepack (duh!). Unfortunately Cinepack doesn't work on my OS so I just have to be confident that I am doing it right
--------------------------
Step 3
Now you have your adx files, so you can trash the wavs. If you need to... for example in MvC2 it is time to give them the extension ".BIN" .
To make sure you do it correctly (otherwise the songs won't play) i'll give you the long method, but it won't fail.... unless you screw it up, hehe.
Open the "adxencd" folder to see your adx files. Now open your Control Panel (= Start, Configuration, Control Panel) and go to the Folder option. Click the "View" tab and make sure the box that says "Hide file extensions for known file types" is unchecked. After it's unchecked, the extensions of all files will be shown in the folder. Now erase the ".adx" and type ".BIN" (capital or not, it's the same thing). Ignore the crapty warning and click yes, don't worry, the file is still usable.
Warning: If you renamed the files incorrectly don't expect them to play.
Step 4
If there isn't already a folder in selfboot called "data" create it.
i. extract the whole 2nd session of your selfboot game (from the disc) into C:\selfboot\data (this will take a few min to extract)... all you have to do is throw your DC game in your CDrom drive and open ISOBUSTER (if you get a PV something read error get a new version on ISOBUSTER)
-add up the size off all of your .ADX music files combined and add up the size of the .ADX music files you are going to replace. Subtract the total of the original .ADX files from the new .ADX files... this is to see how much more space they are going to take up in the Iso image which you will soon create. You may have to adjust the size of the dummy file if there is one present, .ie if it is 300 MB you may have to make a new one to replace it that is 200 MB or whatever. Dummy file usually look something like 00.DUMMY.DAT so create your dummy file with your Dummy proggy and rename it to whatever.... or just name it 000.DUMMY.DAT and erase the old dummy file in the data directory.
-copy and paste your .ADX or .BIN music files from C:\adxencd to C:\selfboot\data and say yes to replace the files... duh.
Step 5
It's now time to burn your 1st session track. To do this fire up CDRWIN and select the first option Record Disc. Then click the Load Tracks, then click Add. Change the type of file option so it should say something like this All files *.*, so now browse until you get to your selfbootdirectory and select the AUDIO.RAW file. (if you don't have this audio.raw file included with the toolkit I will upload it somewhere for you guys b/c I forgot where I got it from) Click OK. Then before hitting the START RECORDING button be sure that the box Open New Session is checked. Otherwise all this you're doing will be useless and you'll only waste a beautiful CD-R. Once it's done click START RECORDING. Now wait till it's finished. And leave the cd in the tray. You'll use it in the next step.
Step 6
Once the cd is done you need to find out your SCSI Bus ID# of your CD-W. (Insert quote: What the flock is that??) It's not an inhuman thingy, you can do it, well...... you must do it if you want this to work, hehe... So pay attention:
Open a MSDOS window and change it to the selfboot directory:
cd C:\selfboot
Now run this:
cdrecord -scanbus
It should pop your CD-W info and some values. Write down the values cause you'll be needing them.
Now, run this:
cdrecord -dev=x,x,x -msinfo
Replace the "x,x,x" with the values the scanbus gave you, for example:
Scan bus gave you these: 0,1,0 <-- so you put these instead of the "x,x,x". The values differ so be sure to be sure of this, or it won't work. I'll refer them as "x,x,x" from now on.
After that command is done it will pop another number, write them down. (Be sure that the CD with the 1st session burned is still in your CD-W). Example:
0,11700 <-- write these, you'll need them later.(the second one is your msinfo value)
Step 7
Time to do some Cutting and Pasting cut the following files from the data folder and put them in the root directory (C:\selfboot, duh):
1ST_READ.BIN
IP.BIN
So you should have a bunch of weird looking applications plus a 1ST_READ.BIN and IP.BIN files in the selfboot directory.
Note:
You have to delete them from the data directory, they should only be in the selfboot directory.
Open a MSDOS command window and type this:
cd c:\selfboot
It should say now: C:\selfboot . Now type this:
binhack.exe
It will prompt you for the name of binary, so type: 1ST_READ.BIN, now it will ask for the name of the boot sector so type: IP.BIN. After that it will ask for the MSINFO value (remember this?)so type only the second number msinfo gave you, for example:
0,11700<--- you only need the 11700
Once it's finished, copy your new 1ST_READ.BIN to the data directory (where all game files are). NOTE: You only need the 1ST_READ.BIN file in the data dir, leave the IP.BIN where it is.
Step 8
Now, time to make your iso!!! In the MSDOS window type:
mkisofs -C x,y -V ECHELON -l -o data.iso data
"x,y" <<--- are your MSINFO values. Example: 0,11700
Wait for your ISO to be created.
Step 9
Once its done you'll have a data.iso sitting in your selfboot directory. Time to hack it!!!!!
In a MSDOS windows run:
IPINS.EXE
It will prompt you for the Bootsector filename, so choose: IP.BIN. It will now ask for the ISO filename, so type data.iso. It will patch the IP.BIN as the bootsector in data.iso
Step 9
Time to burn.
Fire up CDRWIN again and choose File Backup and Tools. So for Backup Tool/Operation: Select Record an ISO9660 Image File. For Image Filename choose data.iso in your selfboot directory. For recording options select these:
Disc Type: CDROM-XA
Track Mode: MODE 2
Speed: any
Finalize/Close Session: Yes
Write Postgap: Yes
Open New Session: No
Test Mode: No
Verify Recorded Image: No
Click the Start button and wait.
Once it's finished, eject the CD and try it in your DC.
--------------------------------------------------------
Now you have a selfbootable Capcom Title (or otherwise) with your own selection of music.
Enjoy!!! Questions? (lol)
...one more note, I have not tryed this on any games yet that don't have an IP.BIN, heavy metal geomatrix will be the 1st... so I will either create an IP.BIN (bootfile) or use one from another game... I don't think it really matters to much b/c you hack it w/ your msinfo and binary (1ST_READ.BIN).... but we shall see. I will let you guys know if I am successful. I was successfull! WHOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo!!!... you can just use any old DC IP.BIN and hack away
I suggest you print this out and use it for reference. Good luck (don't skip any steps or it will not work), Cheerz.

This guide is somewhat garbage because most of the proggies ull need to use it are kinda hard to find........not to mention cdrwin with the compatiblity problems and i think u have to have a certain version of it also........ive seen the video that closely resembles the way ur doing things and ive gone thru countless times with no avail.........i dunno whatever makes the customer happy i guess

Thats a little cold, 4DI. The guide is spot on. If you dont want to use CDRWIN, you can use cdrecord. I think your choices are pretty much limited to those two; THere are other programs (hell, all of em) that will allow you to add the files as a second session to the disc, but you need to make the .ISO image so you can insert the IP (IPINS.EXE) before burning. I know of no programs that will allow you to.
The only thing I might want to add is that some games have more than 1 executable that needs binhack'ed. SF3:DI is an easy example because SF3 and SF3:GI are separate executables in different directories. The 1st_read.bin is for the selection screen. MvC2 and CvS2 do as well, but the other executables are for the web browser, and who the hell uses that?
Snake (I aint countin the vowels), the IP.BINs are almost always completely interchangable. There may be some difference in the ones for WinCE games vs Katana games, but I know for a fact that ones for Katana games can be used on any Katana game, as long as the correct filename is give to it to boot (1st_read.bin). You should have no problem using the mvc2 or cvs2 IP.BIN on HMGeo or most other games.
LMCZITZ, clean out yer inbox or get on AIM. I got two possible causes of your problems.

yeah i could see where ur coming from and i apologize if i sounded like an ass about that..........its just i was using that guide the first time i wanted to make a custom and it never worked......it made me so frustrated so im just totally against it now or untill i can find a way to make cdrwin work........i might just go ahead andget the cdrrecord proggie......i dunno........a link to the proggie might be a good thing if anyone has it
anyway sorry about the outburst i was just overwhelmed by the horrible memories of wasting countless cd's on that method.......sorry again:(

I sended u an email about what happened with what u sended me.
Toodles, you know what? I gone leave my ftp open so u can dump the ip.bin there.
------------------------------------------------
Toodles is the man period...
Thanks to him we were able to find what were the problems I was having and then come up with solutions to fix them.
To those that still trying:
After 18 coasters I was able to make a self-bootable mvc2 cd. So don't give up, just keep trying different methods that you wiill get it sooner or later....You might end up wasting about 30 cds but so what is not as cdr are that expesinve and the rewards of learning how to make a selfbootable cd are enough to keep trying untill u finally get it to work....(SB is the way to go. )
- Don't ever give up...Just take a breake and try again later.
-------
The reason why I couldn't make a working selfboot mvc2 was due to the fact that:
my 1ST_READ.BIN or the IP.BIN (Toodles found out that the problem was been cause by some extra code that were not suppost to be in the ip.bin) were not properly created, therefore I could not hack them sucesfully even tho binhack and ipins were telling me that the hacking was done successfully.
The solution will be to replace the IP.BIN that you took from the game you are about to hack/make rebootable with the one of another bootable game (like the one from this game: VIRTUA STRIKER 2 ).
If after hacking it using the new ip.bin from VIRTUA STRIKER 2 or another selfboot game, it still don't work, then try copying and pasting the 1ST_READ.BIN also from another SB MVC2 (or do this: try the 1ST_read.bin and IP.BIN located in the Z_MVC2 (VS2 bootable files) directory of Toodles' TLC...3in1 game..... SUPRNOVA has it).
I hope this help someone.... I will be making a video for the visual learners out there...

Can GGX music be edited? if so anyone have the tracklist and stuff?
Toodles

For GGX, all of the music is CDDA (compact disc digital audio. In other words, you can put the CD in your walkman and play the tracks). I dont have a track list for you though, but changing the music would be a snap. Follow the directions in the Echelon tutorial for selfbooting CDDA games, and youll be golden.

When you're poor, ya. You can get a DC and a spindle of cd-r's for what a new GGXX will cost ya : )
Besides, you can customize the music on
