Bought some games this week.
Victorious Boxers: Ippo's Road To Glory $9.99 Used
I-Ninja (PS2 ver.) $6.96 New
Neo Contra $ 10.96 New
Sega Classics Collection $9.96 New
Sonic Advance 3 $19.99 New
I've wanted to play I-Ninja for some time now and I bought Sega Classics Collection for the arcade perfect Virtua Racing. However, Alien Syndrome was tight on the SCC, too. I ended up buying Victorious Boxers again because my first copy just had the game and the front cover. The one I bought on Sunday had the full case and instructions. Yeah, I'm a collector like that. :wonder:
I think I'll start Sonic Advance and play it along with FFIV Advance.

DMC3 Special Edition rocks. Vergil is insane in that game, kills close to any of the standard enemies in 3 or 4 hits. And it's only $20, so there's another incentive.
i rushed this shit DOWN and got it. its my first DMC game but DAMN i do see what the fuss is about.
dante is the shit. vergil's awesome too but using him takes a little getting used to.

Started playing Sonic Advance last night. Man, this is where Sonic should be. In 2D. I enjoyed Sonic Adventure (except for Big) but Sonic really is at his best when he's blazing in 2D. The zones in SA are huge and well-designed. Tonight I beat the game as Sonic. I got all giddy when Egg Man came out on the last zone as the boss from the original Sonic The Hedgehog and the first Robotnik boss from Sonic 2. Working my way through the game as Tails now.

I finally beat Sonic DS last night. The last boss was fucking hard. I usually have no problem with last bosses, but it took me about 30 minutes to get all his patterns down. After that I had no problem beating him again with the other character.
Getting the last Chaos Gem with Sonic was a little tricky, but it wasn't as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Only took me about 5 tries.
Now I have to figure out which DS game to play next...

Well, I started playing Resident Evil 4. It's really fun. But, I am surprised that Leon hasn't once flipped his hair. I know that it is all emo looking, but it's just begging to be flipped.

Beat Sonic Advance with Tails last night. Tails owns Sonic in water levels because he can swim. Man, I wish Tails could have done that in past 2D Sonic games. Getting around underwater was sooooo much easier. Cosmic Angel Zone Act 1 is still the most annoying zone in the game. It's so freaking huge and and I die there far too many times. Going through the game with Knuckles now. I still have the hardest time finding the special stages to get the Chaos Emeralds.
I played some Sonic Pinball Party Saturday night. I actually enjoy the NiGHTS table far more than the Sonic table. Plus the tune it plays is pretty good.

I just rented Disgaea, it's pretty cool. I'm not really into SRPG's (takes alot of Patience). But this game is going just smoothly. Anyway, my characters seem to be pretty uneven, Lvl wise. Laharl is lvl 12 for me, but everyone else is around lvls 5-7. Since this game is like most RPG's, were you get exp from wining battles (obviously). Do you N.I game vets have any tips?

Disgaea is the shit. I wouldn't worry about leveling up too much, I mean you should level up, but there are some levels later in the game that will level up you up quick. I think it was 13-1 or something, I could be wrong. But yeah, awesome game. I hope that rental is at least 7 days, I put over 200+ hrs into that game

I beat Call of Duty 2 last week, and it's a great game. A very immersive experience.
I started playing Half Life 2 on the Xbox last night, and all I can say is HOLY SHIT!
Damn, what an amazing game. The physics in the game are incredible. Not to mention the game has to be the best looking Xbox game I've ever seen, and that says a lot. Truly a thing to behold in 480p. The game sucked me in, and I played it for nearly 5 hours last night. I'm hoping to beat it within the next few days.

When it comes to RPG games, I like to "complete it all", so to speak. For instance, I like having all of my characters maxed out at level 99 and have all the spells and items, defeated all the secret bosses, and shit like that. I know that I could probably sweep through most things by level 80 or such, but still, I strive for perfection.
In Catslevania: SOTN, however, this happens to be VERY complicated. I'm at level 67, and it seems to be a pain to gain levels from hereon, since even the most powerful normal enemies (the Guardians) are now only giving me 100 EXP a pop (and this amount will surely decrease if I keep gaining levels). I also noticed that the same thing happens in Suikoden...once you get to a certain level, you gain EXP at a single digit rate. Goddamn lazy ass Konami.... :bluu:

Well................I beat Castlevania: HoD
100% both castles, all the furniture, and most of the eqipment. I spent some time just leveling up (BTW, the place where the owls, Simon Wraiths, and jumping BonePillars makes great EXP fodder)
Now I'm facing Death as Soma in AoS................what a bitch!! The mini scythes keep beasting me over and over.
Frustrating......

Nah, Laharl just levels up quickly, which is a good hting since he's got really good skills later on to learn. Don't worry about it you'll be fine. Eventually you'll get to a level that has the entire map on invincibility and you can use those levels to level up REALLY fast. I forget the actual technique(it's been a long time) but you can find it on GameFAQs I'm sure.

Back to the old Mega Man X Collection for me. I started X5 on Normal. I went through the intro stage with X (Thought about using Zero but I decided to roll with the X-Buster.) That duck move sure is useful in this game. Seriously, pressing down has saved me skin a number of times and I've only just stared. I did Grizzly Slashe's stage as Zero and had a very interesting convo with Dr. Light. Makes me wonder, if Dr. Light is dead then how can holograms talk to X and Zero?
Does the item duplication trick still work for Final Fantasy IV Advance? I never used it in the SNES version but I heard it could make beating the game impossible but getting lots of money is very time consuming and Edge needs some more stuff to throw!!

Unreal Champ 2 has become the game I've had the most dreams about now. I had yet another one about it last week...I was playing Lilith with Biorifle and Rockets....and occasionally it switched up to me actually being IN the game playing the Liandri tournament for real. The live crowds seemed to like me...it was like being in a main event at Wrestlemania or the Superbowl or something...only with killing and violence as the main attraction.
Sadly...I hear the online community has become even more dead...at least according to some discussion at the epicboards... Once again...I'd say difficulty has to be a main issue there. A rookie in the game could get destroyed by someone like me, and I'm ONLY an "Adept"(average) that barely gets by with cheap kills/tactics occasionally. I imagine new people going against those who are ranked "Masterful" and "Godlike"(the next 2 steps up..I realize I probably will never become a "Masterful" before the game completely dies) would be in for an absolutely hopeless battle. Then of course there's the incessant whining of typical fps fans, the rampant elitism of PC fps fans(*unfortunately they are the majority), and of course the glitches in the beginning....this has truly annoyed me more than anything else in recent years in this industry. I could write a book-worth of my own bitchin' and complaining about the UC2 fiasco. Seriously, this almost pisses me off as much as the (completely unfair)death of Dreamcast against the mere arrival hype of Ps2.(which was absolute bullshit for the first year)
My best friend has X360, but I didn't get to play over my vacation weekend, since the weather decided to completely freeze Memphis over last weekend. Yeah, fuck you too, nature.

Man, a couple days ago I just had the opportunity to try out a near-final build of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion... It was pretty stinkin' awesome. To tell the truth, I got kinda tired of Morrowind after like 6 or 8 hours, but if I had a good PC or a 360, I would totally get Oblivion. I mostly played Japanese-style RPGs (I mean, when I had time to play RPGs), so the whole open-endedness of Morrowind just kinda overwhelmed me. Plus the fact that it tried a little too hard to be realistic (I hated how your character got tired from running around).
But Oblivion fixed a lot of what made me get bored of Morrowind. It was so pretty and immense. Maybe it's time I buy a new computer...

I had felt like jumping in the way-back machine the other day, so I started playing Illusion of Gaia. I loved that game, such great dungeon designs and plot twists. When you set that dude on fire in the pyramid...my fragile 12 year old mind was in awe. :wow: Plus, I'm a total sucker for the Will/Kara love story, that part where you're drifting on the raft is OG video game greatness. Plus, of all your so-called "friends" in that game, Kara's the only one who stays with Will from beginning to end, going so far as to use her own body as a weapon (aka the Fiery Phoenix) in order to be with him in the final battle. And even after the battle is over and they are separated, they vow to find each other again, defying about a thousand years of evolution and searching through millions of people on the planet...and actually end up together again, way in the future. That's love, right there. :lovin:
That game is the ultimate "coming of age" story. Not to mention a worthy sequel to one of my all-time favorite games, Soul Blazer.

I will also get Oblivion...(*heh, reminded me of when Tyson said "I'm gonna fade into bolivian..")....once I get a 360. Hopefully I can get some "hookup" deal, as I am sure we're a long way off from the first price drop on that system.
*UC2 (of course)--I found an awesome video yesterday while throwing away some files on my comp...I forgot I even had it...the quality was spectacular...*ah yes...I got it from pwnation, it was "Headhunting"...from "the_augy". If any of you who are curious about just how much ass Unreal Champ2 kicks...watch this vid if you can find it there(I haven't been to pwnation in quite awhile)...and this vid only shows certain things(some truly amazing headshots, "goop" kills, etc.), so know that it is only a small taste of the overall delicious pie that is Unreal Championship 2.
I may finally hook up the xbox and play online again tonight...yeah, I am so lazy that I still haven't unpacked everything from going home last weekend. heh, the gamecube and xbox are still packed up like I just got back.

I recently finished Grandia 3.
I absolutely love the battle system. Most other RPG combat systems are just shallow in comparison. Too bad the game felt unfinished on the second disc. It just seemed like a lot of things happen without any context, and there are a few places on the map that look like you can enter them, but you actually can't. Then there's the disappearance of one of the villains without any explanation whatsoever. The ending is also unsatisfying.
Oh well. Back to Tales of Legendia!

UC2 of course---I gave up on CDGs quite awhile ago, but started doing the secret CDG for Brock again today...I actually forgot all about this actually being useful. See, the secret CDGs grant you full adrenaline! Of course, what keeps this from being something out of control and potentially game-breaking...is that it's pretty damn hard to pull off a cdg in a real match, since so much "stuff" is going on at every possible second...so, the victim can be hit by stray fire and thus knocked out of freeze...or they could simply "Awaken" before you finish the input command. And of course you'd have to worry about being so wide open to other players while you're trying to do a death move on this one person....and then there's the matter of it being a "mind-glitch" scenario for me. I just have a real problem going from the normally fast-paced action to a sudden Mortal Kombat "Finish Him!" type of situation.
*...Arclite's secret cdg is easier to remember than his regular ones...so I finally saw a Juggernaut character finisher....(a dropkick that makes the person explode...this actually looks a lot better than it sounds.)
....and yeah...I cheated in order to practice the cdgs again. Cheat menu has an option where you can put a bot in stun by just locking on...the bot stays that way for a long time...do this with just one bot in a map, and it equates to some convenient cdg practice.

I'm getting near the end of Call of Duty 2. It's really been a thrill ride, and I can't wait to see how it concludes.
If you've not tried the game, you really should. There's a few scenes in which there's several divisions of soldiers rushing at you all at one time from across the field, and you hear their war cries - it's REALLY something. You're thinking "I'M FUCKED!", but your team works well together. The game is INTENSE.
I think I might go through it again when I'm finished. :)
Sidenote: When is God of War going to go Greatest Hits? JEEZ. It's taking forever. Of course when it's still making money, why would Sony bring the price down? DAMNIT.

I had to resort to cheesing out Bombardil, Archer summons and AoE shit just to clean up objectives. I hope that that glitch hasn't / doesn't filter into the multiplayer xp.
Unfortunately it's almost like part 1. Upgraded ranged units > * Except for certain heavy melee units.
Overall I think the game isn't a whole lot better than bfme1. Sea units are nothing to write home about except for the storm? ships, suicide + whirlpool = gg anything around it.

Opened up my Neo Contra last night. Although the game is mostly played from an overhead perspective, it is pretty fun. I just wish the Spread Gun worked the same way it did back in Contra III. In this game it fires off in short bursts. Even so, Neo Contra still feels like a Contra game. I'm constantly shooting at enemies, watching my back and the bosses have that old-school "figure out the patern" feel to them. I also like the new lock on system. Sometimes, the only way to hit an enemy is to use your lock-on weapon. It may not play from a side view but it still feels like Contra and that's good enough for me.
Played some Street Fighter Alpha 3 this afternoon with a couple of buddies. We had some pretty heated matches going on. I beasted on them with Ryu and even had a couple of Super Combo Finishes. I just wish I could have repped Guy they way I did Ryu today. I only won a single round with him. Also had a "slow dance" match between my Blanka and my friends Zangief. I got him a few times with Blanka's upward roll but I had the hardest time getting him with the straight roll. But I did keep baiting him into the Electricity. That had to be the best I ever did with Blanka in A3.
I'm almost finished with X5 on the MMX Collection. My word, Dynamo is so freaking fruity. I think I actually like Bit and Byte more than him and I HATE those guys. Don't know if I'm even gonna try X6 again. I never did beat it when I played it a few years ago. Broken level, Nightmare System bull crap. Makes me mad just thinking about it.

X6 is the only one I haven't beaten; I didn't mind X5 too much. I thought it had a nice change of pace just like the other X games did. I decided to go through X1 and X2 today; those games are alot of fun for just killing a little bit of time.
I beat Metal Gear Solid (AGAIN!) today; it was just like old times.
I am also currently playing "XIII" here and there, mainly for the multiplayer. It too is alot of fun for killing some time.
I think the next game I pick up for my GCN is going to be X-Men Legends; I want an RPG to play, but not one thats too bland or classic.

X6 is the only one I haven't beaten; I didn't mind X5 too much. I thought it had a nice change of pace just like the other X games did.
After beating X5 a second time, I've realized that I like the game more than what I did a few years ago. I didn't even know about the special items you could make after clearing levels. Ultimate Buster = PWNAGE!! It's what helped me school Sigma's final form. I said screw the Falcon and Gaea Armor after trying for a while to get all the parts. Usually, I don't finish an X game unless I get all the armor but I got tired of the dumb bike stage where you have to get 8 orbs to open the door. (At one point it brought back bad memories of Battletoads...) I really like X5's homage to the classic series with one of the Sigma stages having force beams and the boss fight theme from the original Mega Man. I can't believe it took me a while to see the usefulness of the Dark Hold weapon.
I went inside the Sylphn Cave in FFIV Advance for the first time ever. Never did it back when I played the game on the SNES. Man, that place was annoying. Tiny Toads that kept casting Toad and one of the most hated enemies of fall FF games: Malboros. One chest I opened up actually contained FOUR of these mothers!! I didn't even care about the Sylphn summon. I just wanted to raid the cave of the goods and get out. Hopefullu the Cave of Summons won't be as irksome.

I'll prolly get God of War now that it's greatest hits. I really shouldn't buy any new games though, since I'm hardly playing the shit that I have. I picked up Silent Hill II for eight bucks three weeks ago, and haven't even touched it yet.
The only games I'm really playing alot right now are: SvR and Culdcept. Culcept is hot shit, that I'd recommend to anyone who likes strategy games/Monopoly/MTG. Thought I don't really like MTG, but still love Culdcept. It's even better if you have friends that own it too. Much better than playing the cheating-ass NPCs, but that's probably true for any game.
I just filled up all my CAW slots on SvR (PeeWee Herman, Frankenstein and Andy Kaufman the last three, respectively) and wanna get SvR2006 now. I'll have to wait for a price drop though.

Still going through devil may cry 3. Damn game fills me with so much rage. Its so good though. Some of the best action sequences I've seen ever in any thing. I think I'm half way through the game. Just got that guitar type weapon can't remember the name of it.
In between playing that I'm playing Burnout revenge and Fight Night 3. Love both games so much. Fight Night is so fun to play. Just wish I had someone to play against now.

It is a scientific fact that Gunstar Superheroes is awesome.
*I finally played an "GameboySP2" today...that's not the official name of course...just something people on the net apparently came up with for the "brighter screen" version. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it...but I didn't notice a difference in the d-pad. I remember there were several people complaining that Nintendo changed the d-pad in some way, which pissed so many fans off. That screen on the SP2 is gorgeous though...I thought the "old" SP was bright enough for me...the new one looks truly backlit...gameboy games have never looked better. I'm tempted to trade up.
*I regret not getting the nes design SP...it appears to have completely disappeared from stores now.
*apparently DS Lite went on sale recently in japan?! I heard this on G4 a few days ago...they should hurry up on bringing that here....this inevitable update is exactly what I was waiting for.(*besides some good games of course...DS' lineup was just all kinds of pitiful for at least several months when it came out.)
*hopefully once UC2 appears on the next batch of backwardly compatible games for 360...hopefully that will pump some life back into the community. I've seen several players on epic forums that mentioned they'd come back if/when this happens.
...on another note...I don't think the full strategic depth of that game will ever be realized...because as I've stated a billion damn times now....nobody gave it a longer-than-4-goddamn-minutes chance.
...which reminds me...a lot of gamers these days are really annoying. I don't remember these annoying traits in my generation. The worst things about my gen. was the arguments that went on in the 16 bit wars...the SNES vs. Genesis days. Even then...those arguments were tame by today's standards...and the overall tone seemed to be more in good fun, imo.(*like "dozens" or "checkin" with the "yo mama so ugly.." jokes) Or perhaps I had a more light-hearted outlook on the situation due to being slightly spoiled, and having both systems....(heh, on both systems, on top of MY tv, in MY room. Damn it, childhood/early teen years was NICE.)

Went to the Land of Summoners on FFIV Advance. Got the Rat Tail and pwned Leviathan and Asura. I thought Leviathan would be the tougher of the two to kill but Asura was tough!! She even killed Edge and was doing major damage to all of my party members. If it wasn't for the Reflect spell, I would have been hurting even more than what I already was.
MMX Collection. Man, do I miss the ability to duck that was in X5. I find myself pushing down to duck in X4, but he can't do it in that game. I'ved offed 4 of the Mavericks and now I'm at the battle with the Conele. I hate it when he teleports.

Talk about getting what you asked for. The fighting system is very fluid -- usually when you have a 3-D game with a character swinging a roped weapon, they don't "feel" right, and the weapon is always hitting where you don't need it to. Not with this game.

Hooked up the NES to the 27" TV. Played the following games for the first time ever.
Gyruss: The play-style of this game felt a bit odd at first but I got used to it. I only made it to the second planet. A different SHMUP but still fun.
Adventures of Lolo: I didn't get very far but this is a pretty enjoyable puzzle game. Couldn't get past the 3rd floor because of some enemy that slept and blocked my path.
Wrecking Crew: A simple game where you play as Mario & Luigi and have to use your hammer to demolish buildings but you can't kill the enemies that come after you. I only made it to Phase 8. Fun game. Probably even better with 2 players.
Ikari Warriors: Man, this game is HARD!! If you can get into a tank you'll have it made for a while. And once you lose all of your lives, it's game over! No continues. It's like SNK just kicks you in the balls and says "Tough break, sucka!"
Baseball Stars: This game was soooo close. I was the American Dreamers playing against the SNK Crushers. At first I had a 3-0 lead, which then went to a 8-0 lead. Most of my points came from scoring home runs, two of them from which the bases were loaded. Then they started scoring homeruns. The game ended, 14-13 and the Crushers won. They game ended when there was still awhole 10th ining left. *Sigh*

Reg, you missed out if you happened to not be around when Gyruss was at the arcades. It was the first I remember that was a "kinda 3d" shooter; the ship and everything was positioned so it appeared you were actually flying into space....as opposed to the top down or sideview in most other games. It immediately became my favorite shooter...and so far, it still is. The music and visuals were amazing to me back then. The funfactor was just unparalleled. I haven't ranked Geometry Wars yet since I have no 360, and thus, have not played it...but it looks like a strong contender to steal the top spot....then there's this other game coming(hopefully) for Xbox called XYANIDE. Myself and perhaps 20 other people in the country know about it. We're all praying it actually comes out one day, and doesn't just "disappear". I fear it will just vanish since there's NO hype for this game at all...and thus, nobody knows or even cares of its existence. It looks like my interest and fascination has jinxed yet another game into eternal obscurity.

I missed sooooo many good games in the arcades back in the day. Was Gyruss a Konami game? It was released under the Ultra label and a few of Konami's titles in the NES days (Metal Gear, TMNT) were uner the Ultra games label.
I went out and picked up a couple of retro games today. Here's what I got:
X-Men: Mutant Apocolypse (SNES)
Super Turrican (SNES, Picked it up out of curiosity)
Zanac (NES)
Darkwing Duck (NES)
Shadow Dancer: Secret of Shinobi (Genesis)
Lightening Force (Genesis)
I saw a TON of rare games while I was shopping. Herzog Zewi, Bangai-O!, Jojo's Bizare Adventure, Soul Blazer, Pock & Rock 1-2, Dragon Warrior II & IV, Phantasy Star II & IV. I even saw some Super Famicom games and a Super Scope 6. Thing is, the place I was in knew they had rare stuff on their hands. This stuff was not cheap. They wanted $45 for the Super Scope 6!! And they wanted $9.95 for the common NES Zapper. Soul Blazer was like $20. They even had a Saturn for $54. It was nice to see so much great stuff but I bet if I keep looking I can find some of it cheaper.

Herzog Zwei!!! Ohhhhh that game is THE SHIT™!!! I never bought it, because I never saw it in stores...the only place that had it in Memphis apparently was stupid Blockbuster...so all I could do was rent.
heh, you reminded me...Super Scope 6 appears in Smash Bros. Melee as a weapon. Smash is truly one of the greatest Nintendo games of all time. Any fan of Nintendo's characters and worlds that doesn't have Smash Bros. Melee should slap themselves for not getting that.
Why can't Sega do a shameless rip off of the Smash Bros. idea? They certainly have a huge cast of character to choose from. Sega would be the best company to rip off the Smash concept. Imagine Sonic and friends fighting with Kid Chameleon, Alex Kidd, some Golden Axe characters, the Altered Beast guy, Sketch Turner, some Jet Grind characters, etc.
*I still have my Zapper Light Gun...unfortunately I got the slightly less cool red/white one. The original was grey/white.
*and yep, Gyruss is a Konami masterpiece. It was on a Konami Classics disc released for psx some years ago. (*that disc also included Yie Ar Kung Fu, which is the first fighting game, if I recall.)

awesome game, but can be frustrating trying to get a couple of the mutations to occur. here's a tip keep that ghost persona in stock at all times, helps prevent failed summoning.
what else is there... oh yeah, be sure to negotiate when you can, it can net you nice stuff or even help you on the those hard encounters. also take note that there is a prequel to persona 2 that did not get a US release, so some things that are mentioned won't make much sense until maybe later on in the game.
if your curious as to how this series relates to Shin MegaTen, it's basically a side story dealy. it has it own universe and only spans 3 titles, Persona, Persona: Innocent Sin, and Persona: Eternal Punishment(aka Persona 2 in the US). Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment are connect as mentioned earlier and Eternal Punishment has cameo appearances of the characters from the 1st Persona.
on a personal note i picked up Tales of Phantasia for the gba, and i'm also going to pick up Shadow Hearts: From The New World tomorrow. so far ToP isn't all that bad compared to the snes version, some slow down but it isn't too bad imo...

Darkwing Duck: Yes, this game is Mega Man with a duck in it. Is that back? Not at all. I dig the catchy jazz music and level designs. Even some of the FOWL agents are homage to the different types of "Joes" from the Mega Man games. Man, Cracker Jack was tricky for me to beat. And NES Theme of the Darkwing Duck Intro? Killer!!
Super Turrican: Oh my FREAKING WORD!! This game was a steal for $1.99!! I thought I'd hate it and take it back to Game Crazy. It's as if Metroid and Contra had a baby. They didn't name it Metra on Controid. They called it Super Turrican!! The upbeat/dark music, the killer weapons, the cool bosses!! I about crapped my pants over how freaking awesome this game is!! And there's a code to listen to the BGM!!! Remember the days when like, every game had these type of codes? Anyway, Super Turrican is amazing. I will have Super Turrican 2 and Mega Turrican.
Zanac: The better youd do, the more hectic the on-screen action becomes. And the Area 1 music is boss!! I got this classic for $2.99.
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi: I heard this game sucked, but I heard WAY wrong. I only played a bit of the first level but I was very impressed. Sweet 16-bit visuals with tight 2D gameplay and a killer musical score!! Gotta get Shinobi III now.
Lightening Force: (Ever notice how Sega goofed and put an "E" in the word "Lightning"?) Well FighterX, now I do know!! Even the game's intro was slick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderforce
Thunder Force was released in late 1983 exclusively in Japan. Known versions of it exist on the following Japanese based computers: Sharp X1, Sharp MZ-1500, NEC PC-6001 mkII, NEC PC-8801 mkII, and Fujitsu FM-7. In 1984, an add-on was released named Thunder Force Construction for the Fujitsu FM-7, and NEC PC-9801 computers. The add-on allowed players to create custom made areas.
Graphic and sound wise, Thunder Force is very crude and modest compared to its successors, and is the most obscure game of the series (at least from a non-Japanese perspective).

While I was playing "Pirates of Dark Water" for the SNES, I can see how Capcom had 2 big money makers in the 90's: fighting games and beat-em-up games. I mean, EVERYONE was doing them in the 16-bit days. Pirates of Dark Water is virtually identical to Final Fight as much as Batman Returns was. I kinda miss those days....

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (US) - I never played the Alpha series so it's all new to me.

I'd sign up for that immediately...as long as I don't completely lose my sanity and memories like Brock and Lauren though...I want to still be of reasonably sound mind and judgement, but just with the cool Necris abilities. Yep, I daydream of stuff like this quite often.
*y'know...it would be nice to switch out weapons. I'd like to play a male Necris with swords for a change...I'm not too fond of the male Necris staff animations. It's cool that they apparently have some telekinetic control over the weapons, but it just doesn't look as good as Malcom's staff attacks...
I might also play some Atari tonight...anyone else get that "Atari Flashback" system? It's great....Breakout is on there, as well as Asteroids, if I recall.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (JP) - Kicks ass. The game looks crisper than ever. Virtually no load time, no slow-downs whatsoever and the new CG cut scenes are sick.

I've been playing Jak and Daxter 2 and it's "meh". The story and cut scenes just feel so disjointed from the gameplay. I'll keep plaing it though.
I'm also playing Mario 64 DS and it's alright. I could really use an analog stick though. It's my first time playing the game too.
NICE. Here's hoping for a US release.
Lenneth is coming to the States in September.
Japanese release of Sylmeria is June 22, so I assume it will arrive here sometime in the winter.

I've been on this huge old-school kick as of late. Playing SHMUPs like Steel Empire and Firepower 2000. Man, it's depressing that these type of games are practically extinct on today's consoles. Such a shame.

I'm a SHMUP loving fool just like I was back in the 16-bit days. I picked up U.N Squadron for SNES and Dragon Spirit on the NES.
U.N. Squadron is such a fantastic game. I enjoy it now more than I did back when I first played it in 1992. I think I've only beaten 4 stages and that's playing on the Easy setting. Even today, I'm still impressed at the graphics and sound of the game. Even though there's some slowdown, things can still get hectic. Got this one for $4.95
Dragon Spirit is a refreshing change of pace for a shooter. From the title, you wouldn't think it's a SHMUP but it is. Instead of flying a ship, you control a dragon. Power-ups can make your dragon grow extra heads for even more firepower. Got this one for $3.

Are you serious? That's gay. It took a lot of cash just to be able to aford a new ship a few nights ago when I was playing. If Capcom released the game in Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2, then I may be just a bit dissappointed with that particular game on the disc.
I back on the Mega Man X Collection. I beat X4 as X a few nights ago. Sigma isn't so tough now. Get his parten down and you'll own him. Still, I did have to use both Sub-Tanks just to get through the battle. Right now I'm making my way through X4 as Black Armor Zero. Unlike X, I don't think the code does anything for Zero but he sure looks pimp in that black. I think I enjoy playing as Zero more. I can cut lose more than I could with X and be more reckless. Sabers rock my socks.

The DQ8 ending was a little disappointing. Its not as emotional as other endings, and it feels like it tries too hard to make a happy ending. It wasn't a bad ending, it was just average.
The thing about mgs3 Sub is that I've beaten MGS 3 already. I traded that game in a long time ago, and I love it. But right now, I can't afford to spend $30 on a game I've beaten, even though it has awesome extras. I'm going to have to wait til its a little cheaper (meaning until I can find a used copy or something) before I go back to it. It looks great though, and I think it'd be worth the purchase.

I have it while I've only put in a few hours, I think I enjoyed what of it that I did play. But I think some of the SRK MM fans here have beaten it so they may have an aswere for you. As a MM game it's far and a way better than X7, that's for sure.
BTW, love that Ippo av, man.
--------
It took me forever (read: HOURS) but I finally beat X4 as Black Armor Zero in the MMX Collection. It really shouldn't have taken me as long as it did to beat Sigma with Zero but I had to rediscover some of the paterns and techniques I learned years ago.
Now I've done the unthinkable: I've started X6. Ugh. I've got to be the craziest mofo on the planet (well the dude that cut off his penis and threw it at the fuzz has me beat). No other MM game has ticked me off like this one. I mean, X7 sucked hard, sure. But X6 just made me want to break something. We're talking Battletoads speeder bike level frustration here. At least the music is tight and I can listen to it in the options menu. I guess I just want to beat as many X games as I can. (Though I doubt I'll ever put X7 in my PS2 again) I'm thinking about using the code to get X's broken Ultimate Armor.
Man, X5 had such a tight ending. Why'd they have to go and screw it up by altering 3 years to 3 weeks in X6? Ugh.

There is no difference in beating X4 with Black Armor Zero. As far as I know, the code for the Black Armor only has cosmetic affects on Zero. Still, he does look sweet in black.
About Burai Fighter. I knew the cover of the game looked familar to me. My friends rented this game years ago. The minute the music to stage one played, I knew this was that very same game. The game is freaking HARD!! 1 hit and you die. No life bars. Still, the selection of weapons is pretty nice. Missiles, lasers, rockets, etc. Ken Lobb worked on Burai Fighter? Nice. The game even came with the box when I bought it!

It took me a good while but I finally beat the boss on stage 5-3 of Vice: Project Doom. It was this huge tank that fired lasers and missiles. 3 hits from the lasers and you're ashesh. Then I made it to stage 6-3 and the boss from there seems even tougher. I didn't beat him because I wanted to try out the other NES games I bought.
Guardian Legend is a nice blend of Zelda and SHMUPs. The first boss was freaking. I had to shoot 10 weak points in order to kill the dumb thing and a wave of non-stop bullets was coming at me. Thank God there are life refills in this game. You need them like you need air to breath.

I loved Guardian Legend from what little I remember of it...but it was never available in Memphis, TN if I recall. I would ONLY see that game for rent at Blockbuster...never for sale anywhere.
Naruto Clash of the Ninja is already out for GC, folks. (*thanks to whoever the morons are in advertising...I'm sure the masses who don't happen to be into the import scene don't even know it exists. I didn't even know it was out until seeing it in a store a few days ago. SNEAK the game onto store shelves...BRILLIANT plan to get sales, stupid bitches.) I'd advise anyone with the spare change to get it...sure it's inferior to the sequels that are already out in japan, but we should at least to support it so we eventually get the sequels to release here as well. Personally, I'm not too into the whole import scene. I'd rather buy a game when it is available here. I don't want to deal with an extra hassle just to play a damn game. The roster isn't that great, but at least it has Zabuza and Haku, apparently...as well as Kakashi. That's good enough for now, imo. So far, I've heard part 2 is scheduled to come here in October. That will be better, since it will naturally have the superior roster; I think everyone that appears in the first and 2nd part of the Chuunin exams will be on there.
*from a few vids I've seen at a certain forum someone here linked me to....apparently The 3rd Hokage Sarutobi(?) is playable in part 4!!! I'm only a little past the part where he fought Orochimaru, so yes...I realize that is a NICE addition to the playable cast. If part 4 never comes here(I doubt it, as this show appears to have become CN's new DBZ in terms of popularity)...I will definitely have to bite the bullet and import the sumbitch.

One game was on my mind all day at work because I feel in love with it in the wee hours in the morning of Tuesday. Gun-Nac. The game is brilliant. If I understand right it is a parody of Zanac and Aleste, two SHMUPS series that were made by Compile, a developer that knows their stuff when it comes to SHMUPS. Gun-Nac was also made by Compile. (So was Guardian Legend). You shoot giant rabbits and all sorts of other crazy enemies. Heck, the first boss is a giant, SD Mr. T!! There's a lot of cool weapons you can gather and there's no slowdown with all the action taking place on the screen. That really blew my mind because many NES titles slowdown when there's too much going on. If you're into retro gaming and love SHMUPS, you NEED Gun-Nac in your collection. It's one of the best SHMUPS I've ever played.

Yeah me and my boys at www.sega-spetsnaz.com have been helping Reggie get into some serious gameage.
Lately, I've been a bigger PC Engine junkie than ever, been playing nothing but Duo-R. If you're stuck with just a US Turbo Duo or a TG16, you're missing out on some high quality Hucard games. The last few games I've been buying through the year were PCE Hucards. Recently I scored
>Ninja Gaiden (after all the horror stories I've heard about how hard the game is at the end, I beat the PCE version on my very first run. Music is totally different, but rather weak compared to the NES version)
>Son Son II (The same Son Son from MvC2 had his own sequel on PC Engine which was an action platformer. if anyone's played the arcade game "Black Tiger", Son Son II is reminiscent of that)
>Gradius (near arcade perfect!)
>Street Fighter II Champion Edition
>Dragon Spirit
>Genpei Toumaden 2 (JP version of the TG16 game "Samurai Ghost")

I am totally addicted to Gun-Nac. The 8-bit visuals, the soundtrack, the awesome twitch-style gameplay. I love it. I was soooooo close to beat the game early Wed's morning. I made it to the last boss in Area 8. I died so much and was down to my default weapon so I was doing sucktacular damage. I've been playing on the Intermediate setting. The game has tough spots but it is in no way impossible to beat and I'd hate to have to drop down to the Novice setting in order to finish it for the first time. Since I've started playing Gun-Nac, I haven't played anything else and it's the only game on my mind when I'm at work. I haven't played a SHMUP like it in a long time.

Oh, and I'm currently playing Chaos Legion. They say it's like DMC, although CL is sorta a bit more mindless. You can just go in there and hack mindlessly to get some results. Not much variety in the attacks, I'm afraid. The Legions that assist you add a little bit more spice, but sometimes they just can't fend off by themselves (unless you're using the full-grown Thanatos, which I have yet to evolve back into adulthood again) and get knocked all over the place. The enemies and stages are kinda meh. Storyline had potential, but got bland. The music is excellent, though.
Overall, meh, I will pass...better than DMC 2, though.

I beat Gun-Nac on the *sigh* Novice setting. It's humiliating because the Intermediate setting is what I cut me teeth on on. But now that I have the next two days off, I'm gonna sit down and blast through it on the aforementioned setting. Might get some action in with Zanac, too.
Here's some games that I picked up on Friday Afternoon:
Soul Blazer, SNES
ShatterHand, NES
Magic Sword, SNES
Shinobi III, Genesis
Thunder Force V, PS1 (case and instructions)

Hey, Soul Blazer, I digged that game! Sort of like a Actraiser/Illusion of Gaia hybrid. It's pretty fun. A small piece of trivia is that the first boss of Soul Blazer (the Metal Mantis) is actually a secret boss in Illusion of Gaia (albeit 10 times tougher).

YES. Soul Blazer was bad as hell.
Anyway, just beat Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. The ending pretty much confirmed a sequel, but it was a great game (especially since it had 2-player). Some thoughts...
SPOILERS
- I LOVED that Capcom cockblocked Ohatsu in the end. Not only did she end up marrying some random Joe Blow, she didn't even get to see Soki for the last time. And guess who did...? Akane, the person who if anybody should've gotten to be with Soki. And so, as another crappy, uninteresting, token "childhood friend with secret feelings" character gets denied of the person they loved...I'm still laughing my ass off. Thank you, Inafune.
- Tenkai is actually Samanosuke...wow. Didn't see that coming, actually. Until he came back rocking the gauntlet I had no idea. But who the deuce is Ako (Arin's real name, apparently)? Was she introduced in Onimusha 3 or something?
- Fortinbras as the final boss = DAMN. I had almost totally forgotten about that guy, and here he is. And his human form >>>>>>>> his Genma form.
- Speaking of Akane, she's totally gonna be the main character of the next one. But that ghey eye patch needs to go. And I wanna see Soki come back, in some way. Samanosuke pulled it off, so can he.

ugh, I'll never get why people say Final Fight was the best beatemup of the old days. I'm listening to the great Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack right now....and I'm remembering how PERFECT that game was. Final Fight simply could not compare. SoR1 and 2 surpassed it in every possible way. I have to get that game(part 2) again. I'm not even sure how or why...but my copy just disappeared one day.
...and fuck emulation. I want the real game again, in a real Genesis. It was just a masterpiece...there were times when a friend and I beat the game, and then we'd start over playing again from stage 1. Few games in history are good enough to warrant marathon-style replays like that. (e.g.--Contra was one. At a friend's house, sometimes we'd play that for HOURS...until the sun was rising the next day.)
..but yeah...Final Fight was good and all..don't get me wrong. It was just good...UNTIL you played Streets of Rage. Only then did you see the light. The Streets of Rage Experience™ was just...ah, words cannot sum up how great it was. You would've had to be there playing a Genesis back in 90--92/93 to truly know.

Well I beat all the hidden bosses in dragonquest VIII even the ones where you have to fight them all in a row without a timbrel of tension. Now I dont know what I should playing. I guess I could try to finish Advance Wars DS.

That's because they're all part of the same series. I believe the timeline went something like...
Actraiser (Master whoops Tanzra, the first incarnation of evil)
Actraiser 2 (Tanzra comes back, owns up most of the angels, Master kicks his ass again, this time he's gone)
Soul Blazer (You're the Master's angel of death; owns new villain and becomes human)
Illusion of Gaia (Will and Kara are both distant descendants of the angel in Soul Blazer. They beat Dark Gaia's ass and usher in the "modern" world)
Terranigma (way, way after the others, Dark Gaia comes back. Ark owns her for good, peace reigns and all that)
I'm pretty sure that was right.

Wow. I didn't know the Actraiser games were conected to Illusion of Gaia or Soul Blazer. All I need is Terranigma and I'll have the entire series.
:wonder: BTW, if anyone is curious the price I paid for Soul Blazer was $16.15 and it was the only copy the store had.

Picked up a few more games today.
-Ababox, NES $2.99
-Comix Zone, Genesis $1.99
-Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, DS $17.49 (used and in excellent condition, stickers came off easily with no leftover stick marks.)
streets of rage 3 was better than the first 2 and it was mad tight...where you could do that secret move with the botton on the 6 botton controller that wasnt functional in the game LOL, too good...plus i had like 4-5 endings too good...

New YugiohDX game came out earlier this week. I copped it immediately. (Didn't even know a new yugioh game was coming).
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
It's got level up cards (Mystic Swordsman and Armed Dragon) on the inital packs. I just want BESD though.

So I went out and bought myself a used PS2; It was a buy and sell place, so I unloaded a bunch of CD's I never listened to. I ended up paying $40 dollars.
Anyway, the first game I bought was Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3; I really enjoy this game, save for the redundant and pointless Dragon Universe.
The new techqniues took about a day to get used to, due to the fact that the first 2 installments were fairly basic.
Here's my problem: I just got back from purchasinf Devil May Cry 3. This is going to sound crazy, but I'm kind of dissappointed with it. Sure, the graphics are "cool", but this game went PLATINUM and I expected a drastic change from the first two. Ive played the first 2 1/2 levels and so far its gun, sword, maybe jump, gun, sword etc etc.
Does this get better, or am I going to take this back?
Im starting to wish I had bought Tekken 5.
Have any of you taken back games to EB and told them you didn't really enjoy them, so they allowed you to return it? I wanted a game that has high replayablilty; even if I make it through this game ONCE, I will never play it again.

Do a search for Xbox Disassembly Manual on google. There is a pdf out there with detailed instructions (I have it saved on my hard drive).

I beat Gun-Nac on the Intermediate setting a few days ago. I was so happy. It wasn't easy but I did it. Beat the last boss when I was down to my last ship and hadn't used a continue at all during the whole game. God bless the special bombs.
Was playing Guardain Legend last night. Put in the password to just play the game as a SHMUP. During the first stage I was getting hammered. Kept hitting debre and all that crap. Got to the boss at the end and I was so low on energy that it would only take a single hit to kill me. I actually beat the boss of stage one on practically no health. That's got to be one of my greatest moments in SHMUP history. Dodging all those bullets, hitting all those cores... Man, it was a rush!!
Oh and here's some games I picked up today:
Phelios, Genesis case and instructions
Legacy of the Wizard, NES
Rygar, NES
Strider 2, PS1

Waiting on Beatmania. EB said it's supposed to be here yesterday, now today, now they don't know. The exact same thing happened with Guitar Hero and it ended up getting here almost 2 months late.

Abadox, NES
I haven't played Super Valis IV in over 10 years!! Man, the music that plays in the 2nd stage, Castle of Vanity is freaking PWNAGE!!! Big thanks to Formation Z for helping a dude out!

Interesting story: I picked up Stider 2 at Game Crazy a few days ago. But it turns out it was the PSX Strider 1 disc that is supposed to come with Strider 2. So what's up with Game Crazy screwing me like that?! I'm guessing they didn't know but I may have a tough time convincing them that Strider 2 came with a special Stider 1 disc back when it released in 2000.
And Legacy of the Wizard is being traded in. Game is meh to me.

Yeah, I own Legacy of the Wizard. The game had a very good premise (with the 5 unique characters and such), but the whole world was hella tedious. No map service so you could get lost kinda fast. Also some frustrating dead ends in which you figured out you had the wrong character and had to go ALLLLLLL the way back to the beginning to get that character and then go ALLLLLL the way back to where you were. Not very fun.

I really want Kingdom Hearts II and Dragon Quest VIII.
Since my back is fucked up again, I've been laid out. So I've been playing Suikoden II. I've had it for a few years, but never played it. Now that I have time, I try to play it in between my bouts of unconsciousness. It's a lot of fun. I'm about 5 hours into it. Wish I still had my Suikoden I save data.
