Got into Sonic Rush again; I swear this game had so much potential in getting Sonic fans caring about this shit again. Makes me wonder why a sequel wasn't considered, Blaze is just too damn good. She saves this game from being too "kiddish" if you will.

I love the boss fights in this game and the final zone is top tier (the music is awesome too) - the real final zone is just as great as S&K "doomsday" zone.

Glad I got this game, excellent replay value.

So, I usually have multiple games being played at once:

-Ninja Gaiden Sigma: On my second playthrough on hard mode, on level 6 now.

-Fatal Frame 3: First playthrough, saved at Hour VII.

-Resident Evil 4 PS2: Second playthrough. Just acquired the rocket launcher and the chicago typewriter. First thing I did after getting these was kill the merchant.

-Devil May Cry: I'm stuck in the foggy labyrinth on hard mode... You have to fight 2 Shadow Cats at once in one area.

They are making a sequel. Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS. Comes out next month. I'm buying it as soon at it hits stores. LOVED Sonic Rush.

Yeah mang. I rape with talbain.

I play Victor or Lei-Lei(Hsien-Ko)

And to 4play...sorry man...I didn't like M:UA. I beat it in like 2 days.
They didn't really add anything new, gameplay wise excpet for a clusterfuck of characters (which I think you should have gotten as the game progressed, not all at once, which I think is the BIG problem with most of the X-Men Legends/Marvel Dungeon Crawler Games). Plus, a lot of the character team bonus' were ridiculously obvious and some even over-powered.

XML2 was probably the best of the dungeon crawlers though. Which is saying a lot cause I think all of them so far have been really lack luster. I hope if they make an XML3 they really step it up a notch and revamp pretty much EVERYTHING.

Any ways, XML2 Had a decent story..woulda been cooler if they didn't make ice-man look like a faggot. Wtf was with the headband and hankerchief on his arm? Ice-Man ain't a fucking mexican. Even though most of our favorite characters were blantantly broken (Nightcrawler anyone?)

The intro movie and other cut-scenes for M:UA were fucking sick as hell looking though.

-SH

:shake: How can one hate that game.

Nah seriously, you have a valid point. Much of the "depth from XML2 was lost. I guess so it can appeal to the casual gamer. But man it was fun as hell and pretty faithful to the comics(story-wise not that much but they got the core aspects of the characters down). XML2 was too glitchy, game freezing glitchy. Activision should of spent more time working out the kinks(both games).

Cutscenes were beastly, the first Galactus scene was crazy.
Iceman's look came from the ultimate universe so yeah.

Despite being warned by a few of my friends to not play Metroid Prime 2, I am anyway. Several years ago I played Prime 1 so now with Prime 3 about to be released (less than 4 days now) I think that this would be good to get me in back into the Metroid universe.

So far I've only been able to play a couple of hours each day but until classes begin on Wednesday I've got nothing to do. Anyway, I've got the light and the dark beams and am now searching for the third key that'll let me enter a temple so that I can get to the first energy converter or whatever it is that I'm seeking out on this planet. Even though this is a gamecube game I'm still surprised by how incredible it looks. The controls are still a little hard on me because I confuse the visor and gun buttons. Even with that the game is still a whole lot of fun. Tomorrow will be a good day.

The only thing Chrono Cross and Radiata Stories have in common is the cluster fuck of characters you can obtain over the coarse of the game.

The only reasons I even finish Chrono Cross was Vicki, Pierre and all the Star and Astronaught people you can get.

Other than...everything about Chrono Cross sucked.

Last I replayed I was able to get Cloud's Meteorain before I arrived at the shinra building (disc 1). For the first disc I found Big Guard ultra useful and I was able to learn Beta mighty damn early (Elemental + Fire Materia + Meteorain "Freeze") before I even got to Juion. Got Aqualung after gold saucer herpes and Trine from Materia Keeper. Lv4 Suicide is great later on too, don't know what disc you're on but go after it if you haven't yet.

The easiest way to get Beta is to have Aeris learn Planet Protector ASAP. Best way to do that is to use Matra Magic constantly in the northernmost room in the Mythril Mines.

Lol I probably did it the hard way but it works. Getting the elemental materia is a bitch though, and cloud MUST have meteorain because the Midgar Zolom is ALWAYS allowed one free extra hit after it beta's your party. Since Limit Breaks always go first, the timing is crucial or you'll mess up and have to try again (and believe me, you don't wanna)

If cloud's strong enough, he'll take the last 700/1000 points and you'll be set for a LONG time and pwn everything up until Demon Gate.

I am playing Bioshock:

Amazing game! Even without the multi-player I am enjoying myself completely. There is so much to do and so many ways to do it.

Also playing Pokemon Pearl:

Got this from Amazon for $20. To be honest I worked at Gamestop when younger and grew a hatred for this game. Not the game itself but the phenomenon. It was very annoying and it made be hold off trying the game. Now, I am really enjoying myself. I know nothing about the game and the characters. So everything is always new and a adventure. The game is easy to pick up but the grind is a bit boring. I am sure there is ways around that. I was pleasantly surprised!

Playing Rune Factory:

Being a Harvest Moon fan I figured this would be good. I only played 1 day so far. I haven't had the time. Though from what I see I am so glad this was made. The Harvest Moon games need a little pickup after running the same thing over and over again. I am going to enjoy this game greatly when I finally get to it.

Finally, Madden 08.

It is Madden. Though I never learned how to really play this game. This year I finally feel like they put in all the features and made it playable compared to the last couple years. Madden has become fun again. I still suck pretty badly but now I want to learn the moves and all the aspects. No other Madden has had that effect on me.

actually i have every limit break that you can get on the first disc...i mostly use big guard, beta and aqualung. trine is ok too...i haven't used white wind yet. oh, magic hammer is nice but it makes things too easy right now. actually, since i have all of the limits except for the fourth ones for cloud, tifa and barret, cid and vincent, (i have cait sith's, yuffie's and red XIII's) i try not to use so much magic. i overleveled for the first disc, getting their limits an all so i'm going to take it easy for the rest of the game.

i did pick up a ribbon and i think there's a second one you can get on disc one.

debs
08-26-2007, 12:34 AM
oh. two last things...

1. the easiest way IMO to get limits is to go to mithril mines, kill two of your ppl and then fight in the room with the rock stairs where there's a chest at the top of the stairs. in that room you always fight enemies in groups of four UNLESS you're fighting two dragon like enemies that do flamethrower.

a. before you fight, use a hyper on yourself and kill both of your party members. now, when you're trying to do a certain limit over and over, do NOT kill any enemies when fighting that dragon creature. let them all attack you, keep yourself healed and let your limit meter build. when your limit meter is full, kill one of the enemies with the limit. then repeat the process... just chill til your limit meter is full and do it again. eventually kill the dragon thing but make sure its the last thing you kill because the flamethrower attack is whats building your meter quickly.

you can do like 3-4 limits per fight with the earlier limits if you do it right.

b. if you're trying to kill a certain amount of enemies then its self explanatory. the other rooms in the mithril mines sometimes (a lot of times) only have two enemies, sometimes five but a lot of times two. screw that. go to the room i told you and you'll mostly fight them in fours. with both characters dead you can concentrate on using matra magic to kill the groups of fours. you'll have all your limits for that character in no time.

***

2. how did i get beta so easily/early?

i put all my characters in the back row, cloud had elemental > fire in his armor and i had all of their limits ready. i had enemy skill materia on all of them also. now, barret hits with his limit, tifa hits with hers and i let cloud chill...heal them if needed, etc. of course with my powerful limits, the zolom knocked out barret first, then cast beta (iirc). tifa died instantly but cloud survived because of the materia setup and the order. his limit meter filled and i quickly did meteor rain (screw finishing touch). you can also cast beta back at him but its easier to cast a limit because you have priority as soon as you click ok for a limit break. casting beta is basically giving that priority back to the zolom.

thats the replay version of how i got beta early. in my OG play through back in like 97, lol, i just got INCREDIBLY lucky. it took several tries but i got it without over leveling. forgot how though but man it was hard.

Ephidel
08-26-2007, 03:28 AM
I did mine with cloud in the front row, for meteorain gets more damage in. Luckly for me the zolom didn't attack cloud that much, if not at all really (up until beta)

I basically got meteorain in Sector 6 slums. There's like 4 enemies all at once and only cloud and aeris are available. I got most of her's that way too, but you gotta be careful because those crawling things atk twice sometimes and HP is an extreme factor this early in the game.

Frog Song is pretty great too, and so is ????. But ???? is a bitch to get so I'd sub it for beta or something until later on.

thats the only enemy skill that i couldn't find on disc one. you can get it later on, right? what enemy gives it to you?

???? can be found from the scale enemies in the Mansion. They are somewhat hard to find.

Midgar Zolom is very easy to beat in the beginning of the game. Mindblow him with Barret so he can't cast Beta...and put all of your characters in the back row, so his bites do about 250 damage. Poisoning him with Bio makes it even easier.

debs
08-26-2007, 07:58 AM
^yeah, i had poisoned him before, now that you mention it. i think thats what ended up killing him back in 97. i still don't know how i survived beta back then but i remember having it early. i guess i accidentally had the right materia combination or i got lucky or something.

what probably happened is that i probably had two characters left, one got hit and the other didn't (beta missed) and i revived the other character before the end of the match so i was able to get beta early 10 years ago.

lol i didn't believe in level grinding back then.

also, is there a way you can get back to the town with the mansion in it with the tiny bronco? i guess its too late now anyway because i'm at DAT PART on the first disc...

Persona 3 FES is an expansion to Persona 3, which adds 30 more hours of gameplay, the REAL ending, 1 new social link, 28 new persona, a weapon synthesize thingy, alternate costumes and a much needed HARD MODE. fyi FES was announced in japan when US Atlus was already working on bringing Persona 3 here. and so far Atlus has not made an announcement for a US release of FES.

You could go back to Mt.Nibel and go right back up around again near rocket town. You should only fear the Nibel Dragon if your going to do this (yeah he beast characters early on, green color. You can learn flamethrower from it if you haven't yet though. But I'm sure you did already so Lv4 Suicide it and keep moving). Like Emil said, the scale enemies are extremely difficult to find. Could take an entire day and they'll only appear once or twice, and you have to be extremely lucky if they cast ???? if not at all on the right character. I only went in to pick up Odin and Vinciet super early, maybe a few treasures worth getting.

The only point in fighting the Zolom is to learn beta, so I wouldn't mindblow really. You'd be amazed how much EXP and AP that thing gives away, I know I was. It's really low and absurd, kinda insulting really.

matra magic
flame thrower
laser
l4 suicide
chocobuckle (what does this do? i still haven't tested it out, lol)
frog song
death sentence
death force

out of all of these i've only bothered using trine, beta, aqualung, big guard and matra magic. i'm just going to chill for now until the middle of the second disc and use big guard/white wind. the other stuff and my overleveling to get limits has made the game too easy right now.

and i'm at level 44. i need to chill. lol...what level should i be around the end of the second disc?

rest of the game is going to be way too easy for you.

i remember one time i was fighting Ultimata Weapon, and I had used some spell that does a bunch of negative status effects on the enemy at once, and somehow they all affected him. But at the same time, 2 of my teammates were dead and I couldn't attack at all for whatever reason. So for about 10 minutes neither of us were attacking, and In the end he died from poison.

You should be around Lv60-65 for regular starters, and Lv55/60 for people you don't use as often. The scales are the only ones/things you can learn ???? from, and they cannot be manp. either. The only reason you'd want to morph a cactur is for somebody to have a Tetra-Elemental, but the ribbon works so much better.

Chocobuckle gets stronger everytime you flee a battle, and the scales don't run from a battle (thank god)

You could go after the golden chocobo and get the hidden materia's in Mime, KOTR, and Quadra Magic. There's a trick in getting QM without a chocobo but I forgot how....

Ultima Weapon is pretty easy, especially if you're at a high level. It has Shadow Flare/Final Attack that SHOULD kill one character though, make sure that's the character with the enemy skill! Hades is the summon with the status effects and everything.

debs
08-26-2007, 02:24 PM
he could have used bad breath though...

my chocobuckle is probably very weak because i haven't ran from a single battle. =/ i figured that since i ran from so many back in the day that i'd fight every battle this time around.

guess i'm going back to the shinra mansion. i'll probably do it when i get the air ship though. is that ???? powerful? what does it do, again?

Ephidel
08-26-2007, 02:32 PM
???? basically takes the difference out of your MaxHP and current Hp. So if you have lets say 5 Max HP but you got hit and now have 2 HP, using ???? will only take 3 HP of damage.

You could use bad breath but Hades is more reliable, especially on bosses. Dunno why but that's just how the game works lol, Bad Breath's assurance is not guranteed to work on bosses.

one last question for now...i haven't been able to participate in the battle square yet because i haven't been able to get GP in gold saucer. why? i buy a ticket and it says that my limit is 10,000 GP but when i go to sign up for the battles, i don't have any.

i remember a man in the front of gold saucer that appears every so often thats supposed to trade gil for GP but i haven't seen him at all. i kept trying to go in and come back out with no luck. is that only on disc 2 and 3 or what? what am i missing here?

Pretty sure he comes out later in the game...yes, your limit is 10000, but you don't have any. Best place for me to get GP was the chocobo races. The basketball one was reasonable too.

Ephidel
08-26-2007, 02:52 PM
The limit is 10k though I never needed that much of the amount lol. The ticket only allows you entrance to the gold saucer, not the other way around. Try to buy a lifetime pass by selling a mastered "all" materia for 1.4 million gill, this avoids you having to keep buying passes - and they are quite easy to master. The battle square uses BP for prizes, if you leave the BS - you lose all of your BPs (Crazy I know)

The GP guy is always random, he's quite difficult to see so check even if you think you don't see him. Again, he so damn random with appearances - so keep trying and he should appear.

debs
08-26-2007, 02:57 PM
i have a ton of gil i just need to figure out how to get gp so that i can get bp lol. that guy is the only way to get gp at all, huh? or can you play a game for free and win gp?

Ephidel
08-26-2007, 03:07 PM
Well the GP guy is the best method, so it's worth the wait and hassle in getting him to appear. You could play the games but they give crap GP (though the motorcycle one is fun) - if you have a rapid fire controller, slap a rubberband to hold the circle button down. That way if cloud plays the arm wrestling game he'll keep challenging and winning 1 GP lol. Leave the game on for hours and come back and you should have a ton to buy the hidden materia's from that girl.

It takes 10 GP for every BS battle, so commonly if you get a lot of GP you're set for a long time.

I never got a answere regarding Dat Madden. Has anyone ever had to preorder this game because of high demand?

I played some Fire Shark on Genesis yesterday. For those that don't know, it's a WWII style shooter. I was gonna try and beat it but I kept dying on stage 6 so I said screw it. Another day, Fire Shark. Another day.

As for Mega Man ZX, the sub-tank in the lava area, is the only one I never bothered to get. Was way too frustrating.

Speaking of Mega Man games, I should resume my game on the first MM Battle Network. I got stuck on the area where you have to fight Elec Man. Maybe I should just start the whole game over.

I tried one room in the dungeon and did pretty good, but I'm concern about Max's weapons because they're nowhere near Monica's in terms of damage and balance. I didn't play for a long time when I got DQ8 back then, but I'm committed to finishing this game although I think that may take a while.

The battle system is alright. I just thought the story was kinda clunky. The main thing that got me playing DC1 and 2 in general was the really cool character designs they had...but once I found out that it was one of the two things that kept me playing; "inventing" being the other...I lost all intrest in the game and now it's just collecting dust.

FF9 = Best FF IMO.
FF2/4 being a runner up.
And FF"5" being right next to it.
I thought 3/6 sucked.
3 for DS was god awful. It was FF5 but with different characters.
FF7 is cool the first 2 times you play through it. But after that it gets boring (Least favorite FF as well)
FF8...I voiced my opinion on that. Laguna and the soundtrack were the only reasons I finished that game...well..and when they first introduce Quistis..damn she was hot.
FF1 was...ehhh.

Picked up Wild Arms Alter Code: F and Tales of Symphonia used at GameStop on Saturday. Gotta take Tales back becaause its defective. Alter Code: F is a sweet remake of a really good PS1 RPG. Rudy looks pimp with his 3D overhaul. And right when I started up my new game, an opening scene made it seem like something was going on between Rudy and Jane. I do miss being able to equip weapons and armor, though. Kinda seems like the game is a bit easier now. I did notice that Rudy started with even less HP than he did in the PS1 original and youi can't select between Rudy, Jack or Cecila when starting out in this game.

On the Lumines Plus front, I crushed my old high score in challenge mode by 20000+ points.

I just finished 'The Machine'.. pretty good for the £0 it cost, excellent soundtrack and a much bigger challenge than Knytt. I think the original Knytt world is probably more interesting, but if this modular thing works out for Nifflas, and there are expansion packs coming out all over the place, then I could see myself playing Knytt Stories for a long time yet.

I'm sure 'A Strange Dream' will be at least pretty good too, Nifflas' level designs are second to none.

ok...so i got the highwind. immediately got ???? and goblin punch. i'm only missing 6 enemy skills now, none of which i can get until i continue on with the story. i got fullcure, quadra magic and all the other material thats possible up until this point. i do not have any that require breeding chocobo, yet. i might chill and not do that til later this week.

oh yeah, i have 3 tetra elementals and 2 ribbons. there's actually no point in morphing tonberries now because you can get a ribbon in a chest in the crater, right (back in the day, i think that was the only ribbon i got lol)? so that'd make three ribbons, which is all you need.

my characters are tifa, cid and yuffie. tifa is at 47 and yuffie and cid are at 51. cloud was around 52, iirc. yuffie has all creation and red XIII has cosmo memory...all of the other characters (excluding cait sith) have their limits up to 3/2.

am i missing anything before i progress? i've been keeping all of my "sources" like guard, magic, speed, power. who should i use them on? when should i use them?

lastly, what are some good materia combinations?

StuartHayden
09-02-2007, 06:43 PM
In the underground submerine you can morph every enemy into a certain "source" so you can eventually max out all your characters. So you can use them on whoever you want.

My final team for FF7 was Cid/Cloud/Barret

Mainly cause they have the best limits. Plus it didn't matter who had the highest magic and anyother stat wise cause all of them had max stats before I faught Jenova Synthesis and Sephiroth/Bizarro Sephiroth.

Sneak Attack + Knights of the Round

All + Any Spell

Mega All + Death Blow

Oh yeah....most people who fight Ruby Weapon dunno a better way to beat her and just thing "Health Up, 4'xs Magic Cast + Neo Bahamut Zero but there is an easier way to do it. If you wanna know, I'll post. :wgrin:

Sunken Shinra Plane carries hades materia and a Lv4 limit item (I think it's highwind) Do not engage the enemies down there yet! If you do, YOU WILL DIE! Rest assure, unknowns are scary. Don't bother morphing them now, just run!

Ultima materia is free IF you stop the train.

Get Barrets final limit afterwards by talking to the lady in his hometown.

The contain materia is available.

Get chaos for vincet (important!! check out the waterfall in disc 2. If you wait until 3 it'll be too late!)

Get the sector key and go back to sector 6 for a powerful weapon for tifa.

Final Atk + phoenix

Quadra Magic + Ultima

There's some with HP and MP absorb but I forgot the combination

Ruby gets afflicted with Stop.

Do W-Summon Hades (on tenticles) and KotR (since she is stopped she can't counter attack with Ultima :wgrin:)

And just keep doing W-Summon + KotR > Mime > Mime and when one of the 2 become unstopped, recast hades.

Blue Dragon plays very much like other old school rpg's (first that came to mind while playing was DQ, go figure :P) it gives you the option of hearing the voices in english or japanese.

the game looks very polished/clean, i like it, but it seems a little cartoonish/kiddish. other than that, so far it seems like a grindfest. if you liked the old school style rpgs, i recommend.

edit: also, the voice helper got kind of annoying after the first 20 minutes, so i disabled it. (it says things like "playable" when your characters are able to move around again in gameplay)

douburu edit: there is also a French voice option, my bad.

vlakorados...shit...thing has a gajillion hp. i've been hitting this thing forever..

this battle square thing is harder than i remember...i might have to come back. i don't think i'll be getting omnislash right away...the battle i just finished, i only ended up with 91 BP because i had to quit after i defeated the vlakorados. before that my items were sealed, my accessory was broken and my magic was sealed.

Ephidel
09-03-2007, 02:28 AM
Debs you gotta be at a really high level to take on the battle square. Wait till around disk 3, because for everytime you advance a round it gets harder and harder. (Broken Materia, 1/2 health deduction, Frog status, etc)

Personally I waited till around Lv80 then casted big guard early on, then Omnislash/Ultima Weapon + Mime. Works wonders, but it keeps getting harder - there even is a hidden battle square challenge that puts you up against bosses. Make sure you have the ribbon equiped, and prey you don't get "All Materia broken" or "Acc broken!"

debs
09-03-2007, 07:52 AM
well i have like 3k battle points or something...i see whats going on now. its been awhile...
basically you need to have a shitload of GP so that you can keep fighting til you have a shitload of BP in order to buy omnislash or w-summon.

its gonna take some work...i'm getting better though. as long as i don't get the slots where the ONLY option is to have your accessory broken then your magic then your items then your command, etc. then i'm ok. thats what happened yesterday in the first match. shit sucked.

after that though (after i gave up), i went back and beasted through the next battles, but was too tired to continue.

what i might do is go back to mideel and level up to about 60 for cloud and level my ultima as well...i might just progress with the story and go to the crashed gelnika so that i can get 2 x cut and THEN level that up to 4 x cut.

what is the best area for AP at this point? on disc 2..

Ephidel
09-03-2007, 02:32 PM
On disc 2? Well, I think there's some monsters where you find cloud at (think it is mideel) that give away a crap load of AP. They come in groups, but they are easy to beat. Make sure cloud has Triple AP growth! (only one sword allows this though, and I think you can only get it in disc 3. It's near the cosmo canyon - you need a green, black, or gold chocobo to reach the forest where it is. Or destroy ultima weapon)

There is also magic caps near rocket town that come in 6 pairs! Great AP growths there :)

Also remember that you cannot leave the battle square when you start collecting points for Omnislash or W-Summon. If you do, they become invalid.

Been hitting up Metroid Prime 3. I am loving this shit. The controls come really naturally now and the boss fights are fun as hell. Those Phazon overload grenades are fucking annoying, tho. thx for the help. well, i'm on disc 3 now...defeated ultimate weapon...got the ultima weapon. i'm going to take on the battle square and try to get omni slash and w-summon. honestly, i've used one summon ONE time through the whole game. on disc two i used phoenix for the first time...enemy skill materia is too good...don't need any of these useless summons with the exception of phoenix which is useless IMO til you have final attack.

its kinda hard to die facing regular enemies and bosses with fullcure, regen, white wind, big guard, magic hammer and cure 3 x all.

anyway i'm off to take on this battle square thing. is this good for cloud? :

Cloud
Lvl. 62
Ultima Weapon:
Contain=Added Effect, Double Cut=Enemy Skill, Counter Attack=Deathblow, Quadra Magic=Ultima

Escort Guard (protects againt Lightning/Earth/Water/Poison)
Hp Plus=Luck Plus, Mp Plus=Magic Plus, W-Item=Restore

Ribbon (protects against all status ailments)

i'm thinking that maybe i need to put an elemental>fire in my armor to nullify fire attacks? that way i'm completely covered...

ReggieHadoken

Equip the Mystle for armor. It makes enemies miss more often and has so-so slot spaces. Dragon Armor/Armulet is great too...I'd wait until cloud is at least level 70 though.

Go fight the magic pots in the crator 8000exp and 1000 AP. Fast and simple, and lots of enemy skills:

Magic Breath
LV5 Death
Laser
Pandora's Box
Roulette
Shadow Flare

:p

haha i kinda have a lot of GP now...and once i leave the Gold Saucer, my GP is worthless so its all or nothing now. ah well...

i have magic breath, shadow flare and laser already...i'm missing 5 enemy skills though (all 5 of which can be found in the crater, i think).

lv 5 death, pandora's box, roulette...and two others. after i get done with the battle square and hopefully receive omnislash, i'll go to the crater and do what you said and return and get w-summon. thx.

i had it in my armor by the way...now i have double cut=added cut and restore=enemy skill, lol. and i just wasted 10 GP. ah well.

Ever since I finished Metroid Prime 2 last week I've been putting in a lot of my time towards Luminous Arc for the DS. I really wasn't expecting a groundbreaking strategy RPG and that's exactly how it turned out. The story, battles, and everything else are exceptionally average so there isn't much I can love about this game. Oh, the voice acting is a nice touch. I just wish that there was more customization of your characters. In this game everybody's got their own class so they just level up and gain abilities like that. It probably would be better if within each class I could select skills and develop everybody in different ways. Haven't tried the online battles yet and I doubt that I will. It'll just be a matter of who level-grinded (level-ground?) the most.

Military Supply Base in Ninja Gaiden Sigma on hard mode.

The alma battle was a complete pain in the ass because the camera would not cooperate with me. It would keep focusing on the smaller enemies instead of her when I wanted to dodge things. Otherwise I'm finding most of these hard mode boss battles a bit easier since I can kill the random smaller enemies for life ups and ultimate attacks.

FFII is the most unbalanced game difficulty-wise I have ever played. It's either way too easy or way too hard, with no middle ground. Plus, 90% of magic in that game sucked and it took way too long to level things up (I'm referring to the superior GBA version; older versions had some glitch in them, but were much worse overall).

Playing Phoenix Wright (the first one) and FFIV/V/VI Advance. Hope to clear them soon.

Ephidel
09-04-2007, 11:51 AM
That pretty much sums up FF2. The game totally gives you no warning of areas you shouldn't be entering - you'll encounter enemies twice your Lv and strength if otherwise. Early on, you'll start noticing a lot of these situations - and there's nothing you can do but turnback or perish.

The magic "leveling" system is so broken, it's absurd. All you do is sit there and cast the same spell over and over for a level up everytime you battle. Since most spells are ridiculously weak even at high levels, most people simply cast spells on their own characters! Then they just phoneix down and repeat again and again - abusing/exploting just how crazy the system is.

Alzarath
09-04-2007, 12:00 PM
I just abusededed the glitch for a cpl hours and I plowed through most of the game... didn't need to grind ever again aside from Castle Pandemonium (and the Magician's Tower? I don't remember).

Edit: Yea, magic in FFII blows. Even the "OMGWTFBBQ" spells like Ultima/Flare/Holy hit like wet kittens. Just lvl Cure/Haste/Aura and you're gtg

I also hate them for splitting nightmare into 2 people, IMO siegfried plays more like nightmare from soul calibur 2. also have to get use to his drop kick not breaking guard anymore. Drop kick into rising A was a big part of my game.

Battle system, like always, is really fun and yet easily manipulated. Weapon leveling should have been in future Grandia's! It's probably on of the main reasons I enjoy it.

My only gripe so far is the mana eggs, and how they are used to purchase magic (one spell at a time), whereas in GII, they contained magic and you needed the Magic coins to purchase them.

I finally picked up Odin Sphere. I kinda die alot but the game is fun. I don't understand Alchemy and I ran out of healing items when I had to fight the Forest Witch.. that damn fight is impossible.

Odin Sphere is not the greatest. Got bored with it after about 5 hours.

Man, I remember when I tried Chocobo breeding years ago when I was playing FFVII. You have to get the correct Chocobos to screw, do you can get some Chocobo to be able to cross water, right? After a while of trying, I said screw it and quit. Guess I just didn't have the patience for it.

I fired up some Street Fighter Alpha Anthology today. Got my game on in Survival mode of SFA3 Upper (The best ver. of SFA3, IMO). Trying to get my poke game back in action and overall keep from getting rusty. I did pretty good with Ryu until I had to fight Juli and Juni at the same time. I got beat but at least I took out one of 'em!

I can never for the live of me play two RPGs at the same time so I'm gonna put Wild Arms Alter Code: F on the back burner and get back to Riviera: The Promised Land.

I heard Blue Dragon got mixed reviews but since I rarely use reviews to decided on whether I get a game or not, I'll probably still pick it up whenever I get a 360.

BTW to anyone that has the game, how is Card Fighter DS? I've yet to play any of the Capcom vs. SNK card fighter games.

wish there was a glitch to take advantage of to win certain items. sneak attack is taking foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever to show up and when it shows up i never get it. i haven't lost a race with my gold chocobo in s class yet, and i just can't win this item.
like the items won isn't even going to the third option anymore, only the first two.

can you find magic counter in the northern cave? because counter and magic counter are seemingly as rare as sneak attack. shits harder to get than knights of the round, lol.
Put stuff in double/triple growth weapons and grind for more materia. If you have a lot of materia you want to replicate, it's better to go for double-growth as opposed to triple-growth because you actually get more AP that way (6x2 > 3x3, etc.) Once you get down to the stuff taht you need more of, and less of other kinds, go with triple growth.

Its kinda good. Worse thing about it is that all the battles are one the same map and its hard to keep track of all your units

FE8 I think that's what Sacred Stones is. I'm getting beasted on by the rng on some of my favourite characters.

I just saw that credits thread too, thanks though.

Yeah 8 is the scared stones, it's a hella lot easier compare to the other handheld versions in 6 and 7. Still a fun game though, my profile has like 299 hours of just leveling and stat cap filling. :p

Aside from the fan boy basis.

Disgaea Series, Grim Grimoire...etc...what're good Ps2 RPG's?

I have all the classics, I.E. DQ8, KH 1&2, FFX and X-2, FFXII, Radiata Stories...and a few others.

I haven't been keeping up.

What kind of RPGs do you like?

Classic style, I've no idea and hate almost all of them (goodbye, DQVIII). The exception would be Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land, as it incorporates some beautiful, poetic writing into its story, as well as a mostly standard battle system with a slight deviation as far as formation and team up skills go, warranting it's awesomeness.

More modern interpretations, besides those on your list, that I would recommend are:
- Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter - unique, one of a kind, brilliant, but pretty hard to get into
- Suikoden Tactics - mostly a standard SRPG, but has a certain emphasis on territory control, which is very interesting especially if you don't really like to level up a lot
- Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - Dungeon crawler with an interesting real time battle system and super shitty AI (or super great AI, depending on your luck, apparently).
- Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Turn based RPG in which you recruit monsters after the end of the world to reshape the world. Press Turn System improves on a standard turn based system and really rewards exploiting weaknesses (you are susceptible to them as well). Skill based RPG. Also see: Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2.
- Wild Arms 4 - I have nothing to recommend it besides the battle system. And Wild Arms 5 is supposedly decent too, from hearsay.
- Romancing SaGa - RPG with multiple characters. Structured in a non-linear, free form way. Rewards proper usage of skills and upgrading characters as needed. Punishes grinding in its own way. Very good, but may or may not be your thing.
- UNLIMITED SaGa - Romancing SaGa on crack. Basically drops you into this complex debacle of really interesting mechanics throughout the whole game, but doesn't explain a lick of it to you. Avoid if you don't have the patience to slowly slog through how everything actually works.

Those're off the top of my head. I still have other things to recommend, but I'm sleepy.

EDIT: Grim Grimoire isn't an RPG at all. It's an RTS. Pretty interesting, but I haven't gotten far into it. Great interface though.

None really cause its a side view RTS. Just one source of income "mana" and the runes that you create your troops from get made rather quick. the really fun part is the strat that comes into play. sure You could get 7 huge dragons for about4000 mana after upgrades, and yes each dragon has about 600 hp each (a large number of hp in this game, the largest of all units). but when you come around the corner and 3 fucking small cats with staffs who have about 40 hp each and cost about 300 mana put all of your dragons too sleep makes you feel like you wasted a shit load of money for nothing. the real kick in the ass is when fairys kill off your sleeping dragons!! so yeah its a game of planning out your attack and base defense, a little too short in the story department for me but a worthy buy just to have something diffrent to play.

made this post a few pages back about grimgrimoire. good game, go buy it.

beat ffVII yesterday, and today and i'll probably continue to beat the game over the next few weeks because the last boss fight is great...

i do think that the kefka fight would be better than the sephiroth fight if it were animated. its hard not to compare the two final fights (from ffVI and VII). hopefully we get a remake with advent children graphics for VI and VII.

anyway, i think i'll pick up mario rpg next. parasite eve would be too time consuming (because of course i'd be beating the game to get to the ex game and beating that over and over again to build my weapon up).

Yeah give it a chance. I loved God of War, the fighting system was just awesome.

On another note. I picked up some solid games today...well hopefully they'll be solid lol.

Got NHL 08, Blue Dragon, Wild Arms 5, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Lord of the Rings: Two Towers both used.

I played the LOTR games a long time ago and they were alot of fun. They were there used for $5 so I said hell yeah.

Can't wait to play NHL 08 and start those online leagues, shits gonna be too go
