As stated earlier, I've been playing the jap version for a couple months now. Don't know any names, but my highest combo was only around like 600 or so in that huge room at the end of a level where you fight all those floating heads (probably the same level you speak of) with the scythe girl, whom I call Testament. :bgrin:
I am a fucking HUGE level-up whore, so I had Testament and the wolf guy (aka MoFo the Beast) at level 14 by then :razzy:Awesome, man, awesome. That scythe girl you speak of is Sadamitsu, and the wolf guy is Tsuna. I love the dark and mystical Japanese mythologically-inspired characters in Otogi 2. So far, I'm liking Suetake (the Chaos wheel/kinesis guy) and Tsuna the most. The other day, I experienced a ravishing feeling playing Otogi 2... a feeling I often received while playing Dynasty Warriors 3 a while back. When you strip these two games down, Dynasty Warriors 3 and Otogi 2 have the very same heart.

Attention all XBox owners, please buy Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors or we may not see an Otogi 3! I bet Otogi 2 will be the most underrated game of 2004. You know what? There are a lot of titles under the radar that wind up being among the best games -- just like Rygar, Prince of Persia and Dynasty Warriors 3 (before it's popularity exploded).

I bought DOA Ultimate the other day. Big mistake. I love the double-pack case and the online network is pretty cool, but I feel shitty for blowing 50 dollars on DOA Ultimate. It's completely my fault -- I knew I was going to be let down the second I bought DOAU, considering DOA2 wasn't very appealing to me. What the hell was I thinking? Oh well, more time to play Otogi 2 until Halo 2 and Snake Eater.

And I want to see another StarTropics game. I'm like the only person in the world who remembers it.
Wrongo. I've had it since it was released, and have been singing its praises for damn near 12 years. Still haven't played the second though...

I got the american version of Otogi 2 a couple days ago. The Japanese one is so much better. For the American release, it would appear that they tripled the load times, made the title screen look shitty, and increased lag when fighting hordes of enemies. Even when I played it off my harddrive it still has the same problems. I guess its nice to know what all the items do, but they're not necessary. :bgrin:

And yeah, DW3 is top shit. I'd cream myself if Gan Ning or Wei Yan made an appearance in an Otogi game. :lovin:
Too bad DW4 was a big letdown for me.

If you're a hard-core gamer, take advantage of the Toys"R"Us sale.

Keep in mind Neo Contra, GTA: San Andreas, DOA Ultimate, Ace Combat 5, Otogi 2, Outrun 2 were recently released.

I think I went a little overboard myself:

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Fable, SVC: Chaos, Tales of Destiny, Mario Kart DD, Paper Mario, Halo, Splinter Cell: Pandora's Box, Guilty Gear X2: Reloaded, Out Run 2, DOA: Ultimate and Grand Theft Auto XB.

Awwwwww yeah. I've been living it up with DarkStalkers 3. Jedah has a tight character design but those long, red finger nails have gotta go!! Seriously, the dude is like boarderline crossdressing with that crap. He's also a tough character for me to get the hang of. I mean he's got some good combos and great specials but eh, his style just doesn't suit me.

Favorite DS3 characters so far:
-Victor
-Felicia

Felicia rocks. I wish her DF1 were better (Kitty Helper) but when you're back is against the wall and you only need one or two more hits to win the match, it gets the job done. And sticking to the sides of the screen is tight.

Victor is teh ownage. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I usually don't take to well to slow-moving characters but Victor has some awesome specials and combos. And the throw where he uses his butt cheeks is too good. I won against my bro-in-law who was using Morrigan. Now my bro-in-law is the best dude I know (in person) at fighting games and if I can best him with Victor, well there's no telling what I can do if I really sit down with the big dude. However, I've spent some time beating DS3 with different fighters (Victor, Jedah, Felicia, Victor, Demitiri) so I probably know the game better than my bro-in-law.

Well it happend. It was only a matter of time before it happend again. Super Smash Bros. Melee has me in it's grasp yet again. Hearing Million talk about just made me think about the game and thinking about the game gave me the urge to play it. So I played a few rounds last night. I'm not skilled enough to battle LV 7 CPU opponents but if I keep at it, I'll get there. Has anyone tried playing with no items? I thoguht about doing it to see how many KOs I can score. God only knows how many KOs I've gotten because of the Homerun Bat. MAybe I'll mix things up with Bomb-Ombs and PokeBalls. Custom scenarios are just great in Melee. IMO, Melee is still the best game on the GC. If I were alone on an island and I could only have one GC game with me, SSB Melee would be that game.

Been playing SVC: Card Fighters Clash on my Neo-Geo Pocket Color on and off for the last week or so. Today I put some cards in the trade machine, and went to the bathroom. When I got back, tI ended up with an S rank card [Akari(p)]. I should go to the bathroom more often I guess.

Me and a friend have also been going through the bootleg of Halo 2 on our modboxes. Halo 1 wasn't revolutionary by any means in my eyes, but it delivered straight-up fun.

Unfortunately, Halo 2 shits on the fun, and usually bores us to tears.
Pros
-Graphics are tasty (I couldn't care less).
-Soundtrack is pretty good.
-Sound is also good.
-You can Dual Wield most guns (meaning a gun in both hands, teehee).
-The game is definitely oriented for mass deathmatches, and Xbox Live.
Cons
-Campaign mode. Terrible level design, boring as hell story, IT. JUST.DOESN'T.END.
-Other than the Energy Blade, all of the new weapons suck ass (not ability-wise, coolness-wise).
-Melee damage is non-existant.
-You don't have a fucking health bar. Once your shield is gone, you'll never know how close to death you are.

If you're looking to play it for campaign mode, co-op or single, I would highly highly HIGHLY suggest you rent it first. If you're looking for multiplayer and Xbox Live, you probably won't be disappointed. As for me, I'm definitely waiting for a price drop before I buy it.

Before any blind fanboys (haven't seen too many on srk, but there's bound to be a few) start typing longwinded rants about my opinions, put that idiotic hatred towards something useful, because I don't give two shits about anything you have to say.

Finally beat Metroid Prime, just around 10 hours, but I dont know if the time clock pauses when you pause the game/idle on the map screen. I tend to pause, go do something else, and then come back to a game ALOT.

Next up will probably be Mario Sunshine or Wind Waker.

On a side note, I'm getting BACK into IIDX for the 30th time or something. I got a new controller and 7th style, and I've been playing that recently. Still a fun game :)

I beat Viewtiful Joe on Adults as Joe this weekend. I'm now at the beginning of Episode 5 as Silvia, also on Adults. I'll wait on V-Rated until my second playthrough as Joe. I'm really looking forward to playing Alastor, though, he sound like a challenge, but very fun.

heh, I had to look in a FAQ for Leo though....I wonder how many people figured him out on their own.. Well, I beat him without looking it up. But after beating him, I did check a FAQ and discovered that my method was much longer than neccessary. I played up through to the part where he starts doing the pink whirlwind attack like normal, and then just kept double jumping over the whirlwind and Slow-Zoom punched him until I dodge a paw, then backed off until my VFX gauge refilled and repeated. This way he never actualy stopped doing the whirlwind attack, though each punch's damage was miniscule and this method took ages. After beating him, I looked up a FAQ and discovered that five susccessful evades would leave him truly vulnerable.

Oh, well. The only thing that I didn't beat/figure out on my own was what to do with the train. I had to look that up.

Hearing everyone talk about GTA: SA and GTAA made me want to play some Vice City. I caused trouble around town, killed cops, FBI agents, the army, the works. I evaded those fools for like 20 mins. Used a code to get the tank. Then things really got good. Too bad it takes forever to blow up other tanks. GAH!! I want SA and GTAA sooooooooooo bad!!!!!!!!! :wow:

Million
11-02-2004, 08:23 AM
heh, I also beat Leo the long way on my first time. I only glanced at the faq to see how to hurt the guy in the first place---getting "on fire" with the rocks so I could actually hit him, and not worry about the big fire he shoots everywhere. From there I went on my own.....Leo goes into spin, and I would jump over and SlowZoomStomp....I think the shockwave would keep hitting as I'd go into a constant spin kick.

Of course, I could probably ONLY have gotten away with that in Kids mode, since the VFX lasts all day. I didn't read all the way into the Leo strat because I don't like to depend on FAQs for anything. :P

--SMASH BROS. MELEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! --- well, finally got 1000 Vs. matches now, so I have the Food trophy. I now realize after zooming in on it that they use actual pictures of food. Something about that amuses me. It's a REAL cup of coffee, REAL turkey, REAL apples, a REAL burger, etc. haha...that trophy looks delicious.

--I just can't get over it....the fact that Mewtwo sucks so much actually gets to me....I'm actually a little pissed about the whole thing. The developers did that to him on purpose....sure you can't make a fighting game with different characters who are all perfectly balanced...someone on the roster has to be crap, but come on. Some of the stuff regarding Mewtwo is just goddamn stupid. Some people say tiers and such don't really matter until you get to high levels of play....but I'd bet money that 2 first-time players of Melee will realize within the first hour or so of playing with Mewtwo that he's obviously one of the worst characters on the game. M2 even sucks against cpu characters....it's just sad. Of course, random people from Gfaqs would never admit that last comment, as most of them brag all day how they could beat on lv.9 cpu characters with ease....with any character on any stage, in any situation, hardly taking any damage. Surrrrreeeee. I admit shit though....against the cpu, I have more trouble winning with M2 than ANY other character on the entire roster. I really like the character, so it just sucks that much more to me. I would be happy if Mewtwo were at least a "middle-ranked" character....something at least halfway decent to play with. If they changed ANYTHING about Mewtwo, he would pro'ly be one of those middleground characters....they could've make him faster, OR given him more priority, OR make his reflect move actually work PROPERLY....OR make him not so easy to knock around, OR make his jumps less "floaty" and slow...etc. Any slight change would've made Mewtwo so much better.

I wonder....who sucks more...Mewtwo vs. Pichu? I'm was kinda leaning towards M2 sucking more ass when I thought of this small rant last night....but I forgot that Pichu REALLY sucks too. At least Mewtwo has some kind of range to speak of....he could actually HIT people with his tail attacks or with body-spark. Pichu has problems hitting anything, really.

Melee ----strange, I just did Adventure mode with Mewtwo, and I did the turtle shell trick on the first stage....but at the end of it I only got about 200,000 something points!?! It's like the game "forgot" to factor in all that extra damage...I was pretty sure I remembered to do it, my short term memory isn't THAT bad....and I kept it up for awhile...

M2 must have some of the worst priority in the entire history of fighting games. It's as if just about everything he does can get completely shut down by anything other characters can do. Pitiful.

----------
Halo --- I got two little Master Chief action figures a couple of weeks ago....2 in one package for about 5 bucks. The bigger MCs look better of course, but I didn't feel like spending that much money(15 bucks) on one action figure. Of course, my jinxed luck dictates that that particular action figure will simply cease to exist by the time I do feel like buying it.....just like that cool little big-head Akuma figure from years ago.

Quake 4 is in the current Computer Gaming Review magazine, I think. I saw it a few weeks ago, but once again...didn't feel like spending much money. It looks incredible of course....but in my quick scan of the article....I didn't see my beloved Xaero character.

Edit*---back on Melee ...would ya believe...some people actually believed TMOG/Son of TMOG's claim about NDC with Pichu? That was great. See, the Melee Gfaqs boards just aren't that entertaining anymore. Still...that sparks up the mood to go observe again...there was a moderately funny Mewtwo thread recently, but I forgot to keep checking it...time to play out my role as "The Watcher" yet again...

I'm growing more and more impatient as I wait for pay day to come so I can buy GTA:SA and GTAA. 3 more days to go. And since I have Saturday off, I can goof off with both games!! W00t!!

I played some DBZ: SW tonight. I hardly ever get high power levels with LV2 Gohan but I did against Cell. I straight mopped the floor with him. Cell got in one good hit and the rest of the fight was me hitting him with Kamehameha Waves, punck/kick combos and ki blasts. When the fight was over, I had a power level of over 30 million. The highest I've had was with Piccolo with over 60 million but with LV2 Gohan, over 30 mill, well, that's pretty amazing.

I just beats Episode 5 as Silvia last night. This was the first level that I've had a hard time with so far on this second play-through. That first jet is just so hard, because of how fast it moves coupled with how long it takes to stun the black Biancos, and made even worse by still not having any extensions to your VFX guage yet. Whupped Alastor's ass, though. IMO, easiest boss in the game, by far. Even easier than Charles III.

You mean the boss in the asteroid stage? Yeah, that thing always ends up owning me. For free even. Doesn't matter if I'm fully powered up. If there's a person alive, or even a robot that can beat this boss without dying, I want to meet him/her/it.

I started Advance Wars on Weds. Oh. MAN! I've had this game for like 2 years now and I just started playing it. FREAKING AWESOME!!! I'm only doing the Field Training but it still kicks so much booty. I've actually gradually began to get the hang of this fight. It's still fucking hard, but I'm only dying one or two times on a good day.

As far as I can tell, the trick is to not shoot unless you are in front of the core. That way, more asteroids survive for you to hid behind at the top/bottom of the screen so you can get onto the other side of his streams of white bullets. Also, to avoid (when possible) moving all the way to the left side of the screen; otherwise an asteroid can pop out and kill you.

And don't get missiles. The game adjusts difficulty according to which weapons you have, and with missiles, it's an almost unfair jump.

So yeah, Stage 5 = possible. Stage 6, I'm not so sure about...

EDIT: Fixed stage numbers. 5 = asteroids.

* I FINALLY finished MMZ2 with A-rank! Elpizo was hard... but he wasn't THAT bad. Currently playing MMZ3 (restarting whenever my rank drops down from A...)
* I also finally finished Metroid Prime on Hard! I actually never finished it normally; I started over and decided to play on Hard, which extended my playtime more than it should but it was fun. Got 100% too; saw the extra ending clip.
* Got an X-Box recently, and playing through Halo before Halo 2 comes out.
* Still always working on City of Heroes and FF11 (veeeeeeeery slowly).
* Gradius V!!! Most enjoyable 2D scrolling shooter in recent memory.

And I'm spent.

I was given a copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as a belated birthday present recently. I played the prologue, and for an RPG this seems pretty fun. I like the way each attack kinda turns into a little mini-game. It makes it seem like the game requires more skill than most RPGs.

But mostly still playing Viewtiful Joe. Beat the Magnificent 5 as Silvia, and then hung out in the first room of the next level building up V-Points until I had purchased all of the upgrades from the shop. Using the Red VFX Bottle, I was able to get huge combos. My best: maxed out the V-meter with a Big V90, plus 9 little Vs, and a multiplier of 21. Took almost two minutes for my points tally to add all of that in. It turned into a glowing white blur.

I love that game.

Gfaqs is good to just see what kind of silly things the average users there post. The actual good part of Gfaqs is the FAQs, and that's it, imo. Where does one even begin here...?
-rediculous censorship.
-odd limitations.(*new people can only post so many messages unless something recently changed about the system.)
-elitists (*any random comment = "your just a n00b. shut up, n00b." <<incorrect usage of "your" to add realism to the quote, btw. This isn't even getting into the whole karma thing, and how that constantly gets attacked in various arguments. >>"Well, you talk big for someone with -1 karma...")
-people actually make a distinction between "newb" and "n00b".
-wild, barely-believable claims. Smash Bros. Melee --
" yeah, I beat Very Hard All-Star mode with No-Damage Clear...as PICHU!"
"dude ur lying."
"yeah, proof please."

And yep, those are loose quotes of a real discussion that happened on the Melee gfaqs board. That's what made it funny and entertaining though....I miss that bastard TMOG...the place just isn't the same without him.)

Playing random games, and MvC2. Getting pretty good with Sent, but I reeeeeeeally need some new buttons for my stick. I think constantly practicing tj infinites with Magneto (or even just playing Magneto) is a quick way to kill some buttons
Touched GGX2 #Reload for XBox for the first time in a couple of weeks. I decided to break out of my Sol and Chipp barrier and start learning Ky, Zappa and Potemkin. They're so damn awesome.I agree about Zappa and Potemkin, but I FUCKING HATE KY. Cool character with a boring play style (to me at least). Testament has been my character since day one, but I'm also a threat with Chipp, Potemkin, and Zappa. Been a while since I've played reload or xx seriously, but I'll probably get back into it closer to T6. I'm focusing on MvC2 and ST for now.

I'll probably start GTA Advance tonight.

Right now I'm so hooked on GTA: SA. I'm still getting used to the huge first city. I have over $8000. Most of it came from taxi missions. I finally got access to the gym. I'm gonna buff CJ up and make him a speed demon.

I took a detour from FFX-2 and started a new quest in Persona 2: Eternal Punishment and picked up Ragnarok Online once again. So off the top of my head I still need to get around to these games in the near future:

Star Ocean 3
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Phantom Brave
Disgaea
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Romance Of The Three Kingdoms IX
Unlimited Saga
Wind Waker
Silent Hill 3 & 4
Sword of Mana

And I'm sure there's countless other games I've yet to beat and play....not too mention a whole bunch of new games are to be coming out for all systems as well as the Nintendo DS, which seems too cool to pass up. I'm going to wait on Everquest 2 and make sure that's a game I want to invest my time in.

I finally completed my challenge of finishing both games on SF Anniversary without losing a round. Now, I plan on winning every round with a perfect (kidding, that's impossible).

Seeing as some of you are playing FFX-2, I thought I'd ask a couple of questions. I'm currently on chapter 2. It doesn't seem like I can access any of the other garment grids except first step and the ones that boost your defense and grants blind. Is there something I need to do? And where is a good place to get AP to acquire abilities?

Also what are some good dresses/jobs? I only like warrior so far.

Thanks in advance to whoever answers...

Really?? I remember reading from a few different places that IX was better than VIII. I also have VIII lying around somewhere, but I never got around to playing that one. The last one I devoted time to was VI on PSOne. My favorite though is IV: Wall of Fire. I guess I'll try out VIII before IX then.

I'm trucking away on GTA: SA. I got access to a clothing store and I hooked CJ up with some new duds. He's sport a green t-shirt, a yellow watch, blue low top gym shoes, and a white/green ball cap. Oh yeah, he's also sporting some dog tags. Did my first drive-by shooting last night. Took me two tries. On the first try I kept getting out of the car to pick up the goods from the dead goons so that costed me the mission. I evaded my first 3 star wanted level by booking it back to CJ's house and saving. Turns out that saving at CJ's house not only refills his health, but it kills his wanted level. I stole a police motorcyle. Man, those things KICK!! You can just buzz through traffic with ease. I also took a drive through the country side for a bit. Man, driving through the country is so much fun and relaxing.

I played GTA Advance for a while last night. Its gonna take me a while to get used to the controls because they've changed them up a bit from what I knew on the 2D GTA games. Left is left and Right is Right and so on. I passed two missions so far. I almost got killed on my 2nd mission. Dude was coming at me with a bat. And he was good with that bat. I was sucking on my shooting skills so by the time I passed the mission, I was down to 16 health. Now I gotta find some medical kits so I can get my health back. The dumb hospital takes $1000 from you for fixing you up. Bump that. I need my green. People are ALWAYS figting in GTAA. You can't drive down a street without seeing or hearing someone get beat up. :wow:

Argh! That shit like, Harpies paired up with snowbears or whatever the fuck you call them. Everytime the snowbear gets a turn, it's always a critical hit, which I can get killed by in 2 hits. When I get him down to little HP, the fucking Harpy is always curing this bastard!

Oh man. This is GOOD STUFF!! I'm still in the Field Training missions. Olaf can't screw with me. Yeah, some of his forces get me worried but I've passed 6 missions, 4 of which I've gotten A ranks and 2 which I've earned B ranks. I'm just glad I did field training first. I'm learning a lot and if I didn't know some of the basic strategies, I'd be screwed.

GTA Advance

I really got into this game today. I was walking around and stumbled across my first Rampage mission. I got to kill 20 gang members with a flame thrower. That was sooo much fun!! After that, I spent some time playing taxi driver. Man, they practically give you their whole life's savings for dropping them off. Each time I dropped someone off I got more than $200. I think the most I made was $799. They don't give you JACK in the first town of San Andreas for doing taxi missions. Just $45 or so on. Feh. I did this one mission that had me knocking of 3 hoods scattered across Trenton. The first two I ran over. The last guy didn't wanna die and was getting away in a vam. I rammed the fan until it turned over, caught fire and blew up. Amazingly, the idiot got out just in time so I fan him over. Easy $4000. Million, I think you'll really enjoy this game.

oh yeah, it's a given. I've been a GTA fan since part 1...the original top-down 2d style. I had it, the London '69 "pack", and GTA2 on psx. Then I got GTA2 again on Dreamcast, since the graphics on that were right on par with the pc version. (*I STILL don't get how psx couldn't "handle" the pc graphics. The only difference was the absence of the cool lighting effects....that seemed more like laziness on the part of the guys who ported it to psx.)

HALO 2 ---SO worth the hype. I was over my friend's house from early afternoon yesterday until around 12:30am, and all we did was play this in co-op. This game is The Shit™....one of the best damn games ever, and this is without even seeing the greatness of the multiplayer/LIVE mode. Random stuff:
-now I know the horror that is the Flood, and why so many people kept mentioning those bastards from part 1. It was pure hell when we met those "things" the first time.

-that energy sword is one of the coolest weapons in the entire history of video games.
-The machine "Spider" thing!! Oh, where does the greatness of this game end?! That whole battle sequence was so tight it was rediculous....we follow it around, and end up jumping on the thing's back from a bridge, and attack the aliens right there while it's walking in a river or something.

-I love that particle beam sniper-type weapon. You get an awesome zoom for pinpoint precision with those laser shots....I had so many headshots on those aliens....sweeeeeet
-my friend doesn't like "Sentinel Beam", but I love it...cuz it at least looks cool. It's one continuous beam of energy....too bad you run out of this so quickly.

-playing as that "Elite" was so tight. There's gotta be a way to play with a longer duration of the Predator camouflage though....how could they tease us with just mere seconds of the Predator camouflage?! There's gotta be a way...

-We whooped ass on one of those prophets!(*I think that's the name)....it was so great when I first latched on to his hover chair and started punching....I was thinking perhaps I could steal his cool hover chair/throne. If I took over the world, I would have a hover chair like that with the teleporting and the lasers.....I'd also want that giant spider vehicle with the laser....as well as the Mjolnir armor too...nobody could stop me. I could be the real-world equivalent of Dr. Doom.

-ohhhh...and then when we got the Scorpion Tank and the Ghosts! Too tight. My friend usually handled the tank, while I prefer the much more nimble Ghost. There was a great moment though later on...when I had ...I think it's called the Wraith? It's a black tank from the covenant guys, and fires blue energy shots. He had the Scorpion, and I was in the Wraith. Unfuckingstoppable.

Unfortunately the "up" position on the analog stick there was worn out, so it was tough to dodge the enemies' low attacks. I'm loving it already.

Actually, I was so excited to finally play the game....I forgot all about Sylvia. I picked Joe immediately.

I'm just going to have to pawn something off to get an Xbox with Halo 2....I want my own copy of the game so much...it's instantly on my list of Greatest Games Ever. I have my billionth job interview Friday for some chump change-ish job....so hopefully that will come through so I can at least buy the occasional game again. (*of course I know it won't, since the world is designed against me. I bet even McDonald's would find some way to turn me down. I'm also at the Great Boggly Tree in Chapter 2 of Paper Mario. I must say that Madame Flurrie is without doubt the dumbest character in this game. She looks stupid, the Command Actions for doing her moves are lame, and her personality is very irritating. Oh, well. I've still got Goombella and Koops, who both rock. And Yoshi's coming up in the next chapter. Definitely looking forward to that.

*someday I'll get to post this damn message...*

Well, there were a couple of boring parts...but for me, that's only when we couldn't find where it was we were supposed to do, or where to go. That's really the only major flaw I can think of at the moment....some parts of levels are a bit easy to get lost in.

Again, jumping on that giant spider thing's back was too awesome. It was like a real Schwarzeneggar Action Hero Moment™ there. Oh, why can't stuff like that happen in the real world? Fiction > Reality.

*also on that in-store demo where I played VJ2 ---Mario Power Tennis looks really fun....I might have to get that whenever it comes out.

Wario World will be mine soon. It's just 20 bucks now.(*finally. Nintendo takes FOREVER to drop the price on a game.)

Also, Sonic MegaCollection will appear on Xbox and Ps2 later, according to my new EGM. Hahaha...once again GC loses another one. There really is no reason to have a Gamecube except Nintendo games. This is just sad now. I'm hoping Nintendo will have a better run in the next generation, but somehow I doubt it. GC is still "successful", sure...but come on. It's 3rd place here, there's no online-love, any non-1st party game shows up elsewhere, and "multi-platform release" has come to really just mean "Ps2 and Xbox...and MAYBE a GC version 6 months later...". Oh, and nobody gives a shit about GBA connectivity. This is becoming a Nintendo rant, but it's tough love from an old fan....I really don't like seeing them like this.

----------
I hope GTA San Andreas comes to Xbox eventually. Yep, I STILL want to avoid getting a Ps2. The games may be great, but I really have a problem with Sony when it comes to system "quality". On a sidenote...my Sony videocamera just recently decided to start giving me bullshit. At least it lasted much longer than their half-ass game systems.

I was doing this mission in GTA: SA. I had to chase this fool all acorss town while CJ's friend Oc Log shot at him. I chased the fool to some spot where his buddies were waiting for me with some guns. They shot me up good. I only needed ONE more hit and I would have bought the farm. Somehow, I was far back enough to shoot them and not get hit. Once they were all blood on the sidewalk, I celebrated my victory by stopping at food joint to refil CJ's health.

While driving around, I found another clothing store. It was called Pro Labs. They specialized in sporting goods I probably spent over $800 on just clothes alone. Now CJ is sporting blue sports pants, a backwards cap, matrix-style shades, and black high-tops.

Sonic CD isn't on the Megacollection because of some sort of rights dispute. SEGA tried to put it on there, but they can't. Besides, CD isn't that great a Sonic game anyway.

And the Box/PS2 version of MC is just like the GC version, but plus 6 Game Gear titles. Since all but Tails' Adventure sucked on Game Gear, and every single Game Gear title is an unlockable on Sonic Adventure DX, that's kinda pointless to Sonic fans who have the other stuff already.

kinda sad that there's only a handful of games left on Gamecube I want to buy: Mario Power Tennis, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, and perhaps Wario World since it's cheap now.....oh, and RE4(*just to support the GC version) and Viewtiful Joe 2.

I REALLY want Xbox for some Halo1and2 action....I've actually been considering what I could sell off so it doesn't make much of a hit to my bank account. Perhaps unfortunately in this situation....I have really good taste when it comes to games and systems....so there isn't much I'm willing to part with. I guess Incredible Hulk could go. I know that wasn't popular at all and nobody really bought it....but I still love occasionally playing it just to smash things up as Hulk for a few minutes. I never got around to finishing Prince of Persia, and strangely I'm considering selling that off too. That's just two games there, and of course these trade-in deals are always crap in the first place. (*getting 10 bucks off for a game is actually pretty "good"....that's just sad. There's no alternative though....nobody here plays anything but sports bullshit if they play anything at all...so nobody is interested in the games I like....so I couldn't just sell games to someone. And even if I had those sports games too....they have absolute crap value on trade-in deals. Those are the games that dominate the "Bargain Bins", remember.)

Now pimping is a good way to get cash. I've got as pimp car at CJ's first hideout. Heh, pimping IS easy.

GTA Advance continues to be fun. There's this one song in the game called "Let Me Show You How Its Done." That's all the song says but I like it. Most of the missions I've done for 8-Ball have been pretty easy. I've disposed of a dead body via a car crusher, delivered a bomb to some dude, and picked up/dropped off some hookers. I also Got a special red taxi for amasing a total of 50 fairs. It goes faster than the normal taxis and it always respawns at my hideout so I never loose it.

I've learned how to use air units in Advance Wars. I was seriously outnumbered by Olaf's forces in the mission which I used them. Dude had tanks and mini-tanks and a helicopter. Too bad the fool didn't keep an eye on his base. Yeah, I lost some of my boys in battle, butI captured their base with no problems at all. An easy A rank.

Halo'ed for the past 3 days and the end doesn't seem to be in sight. I'm about to leave for a massive LAN party. It's going to be nuts. Did I mention that I love this game?

Damn right. It's like Bungie took the purest, whitest cocaine ever, pressed it into little discs, and sold it.

I can't see why people think Halo 2 is that great, at least in multi-player. I'm not a fan of the story, so I couldn't care less about single-player. I think Halo is almost superior in every way, and I have my reasons.

See I can understand people liking Halo for it's Single Player campaign, but when it comes to multiplayer FPS's....Halo just doesn't compare to UT2004. I'm amazed that it's more popular than UT2004.

I was up til 4 in the morning doing this annoying missionin GTA: SA. First, I had to ram this dude's car to get him out. Second, I had to kill him and then take his car. This wasy the easy part. However, his car had to be in perfect condition so I had to takt it to the Pay 'N Spray... numerous times. The problem with the Pay 'N' Spray is that it's one a busy street so 9/10 times, there's a car coming down the road, which made my car take damage when I backed out. :lame: To make matters worse, I had to me the other cars before 10 PM. I had to retry this stupid mission over and over because of dumb little mistakes. One time I actually made it there and I slighty bumped the front car in the car line I had to meet. So I had to get the dumb car fixed. I'm just glad I'm done with that stupid mission. The best part was when I got to drown that 1991 Fresh Prince look-alike. (Not dising the Fresh. He pwns.)

7 episodes...and you're on the 5th one; "Midnight Thunderboy". The pink crosshair that shows up on multiple enemies...that signals that you are in Rock-On mode, where everything is part of a big combo as long as you stay in Slowed time. This starts if you make one enemy dizzy, and hit them with a slowed attack...then ya hit another one, or knock the first guy into the others, etc...all for more V-points. Hmm....I think everything can be dizzied except for Gelbys(*big yellow guys) and small things like fish and bats.

All rainbow Vs throughout the game will give you access to the "Super" version of that character you accomplished the task with. Unfortunately there is no visual difference, but the "Super" characters have infinite VFX. (*a slowed dodge still takes a chunk out of the vfx bar though.) I only have "Super Blue" right now, my RV file for Joe is still on stage 3-2.(*one of the more difficult parts for RV, imo) Oh yeah...and the big challenge of the whole thing is that you must have Rainbow Vs everywhere. ONE task with a "regular" V or lower rank will throw it all off and you'd have to start over(from last save point before you messed up). It has to be all RVs at every single point you get ranked in the game. This guy here "Gen2000" actually did this with Alastor. :wow: The shit still amazes me.

On each segment of an episode you're ranked for the Vpoints, Defense, and Time....if you get a V for each one, that adds up to a rainbow V for that segment..the highest possible rank. To get rainbow V on the stage, each of those segments must have Rainbow V, so it's not an average...it has to be all RVs.

Dizzy = a bianky, for example (*the "putties" like on Power Rangers)....dodge one of their attacks, and he'll be dizzied. The black versions("Biancos"", I think)....you'll have to dodge 4 of their consecutive hits to dizzy them. Bianco Billys(*putties with cowboy hats and guns)...you can dizzy them by just punching or kicking a bullet back on them in Slow.

I'm currently doing UVrated RV Challenge with a "fresh" Alastor (no power-ups carried over from other difficulties) and recording it, pretty fun to figure out how to get the required Vpoints and Time w/o relying on Slow-RHOH or other special moves (basic things like the dive kick andslide that I took for granted, lol).

Are you getting VJ2 on release date Million? I would like to, but the game is going to take a backseat to Naruto: GNT3 so I'm hoping you can fill me on all the good details once you get it. If I hear word of a playable Alastor in the game I might get it sooner though.

GTA: SA is just owning my soul. I finished all 10 pimping missions and now hoes pay ME for their services.

Also, I can start gang wars. I just find some rival gang territory on my map, kill the fools until all the waves are dead and viola! I own that territory. One thing that's a bit annoying is when your "Hood" comes under attack and you have to go and kill the idiots attacking it so you can still keep it. I've had to do that twice already.

I know some people have already finished SA, but I'm just taking my time enjoying it. Pimping, killing Ballas, driving around the country side, exploring. Yeah, I know this last bit sounds like a review but SA is just so flipping enjoyable. I love this dumb game.

The only thing that could possibly take priority over VJ2 for me would be Xbox+Halo2/Halo....so most likely I will have VJ2 immediately since that will be much cheaper than buying a game and a system at once. I've avoided reading the vj2 forums lately to keep from spoiling any details for myself.

*sidenote---Gamecube has a tight little deal going on now. Now you can get the system with 2 controllers and Mario Kart Double Dash....all that for 100 bucks! Too bad nobody hardly cares anymore. It's all about Xbox(halo/halo2) and Ps2(gta:sa) now. GC basically has 2 major releases left that are exclusive.(metroid and the new zelda) But damn...if I didn't already have a GC, I would be all over this Mario Kart bundle.

The ps2 version they said will be out December 8th.

Viewtiful Joe --man, this is my 2nd time going thru Adults mode with Alastor, and Fire Leo is still a rough fight for me. I died about 3 or 4 times. I doubt I could beat him at all if it weren't for the Voomerang/Roundtrip trick. Something always goes wrong, and once again I only made it thru because that trick takes off a rediculous amount of his energy.

I've finished Chapter 3 on Paper Mario, and also did all the little "Troubles" for people. That stupid flower guy pissed me off quite a bit. First he wanted a hot dog, then another, and then a cake. Each hot dog meant a trip all the way back to Glitzville, which took forever, at least 3 minutes per trip. And all I got for that was a stupid dried up flower that restores 1FP. Asshole flower.

Up to Episode 6 on V-Rated Joe. Every boss has been pretty easy for me this time, even Another Joe. I've also come to the conclusion that Gran Bruce is even easier than Alastor. If you dodge his chomping attack on the edges of the field, so that he stops to breath outside the water, you can then slowZ punch him for loads of damage. Three or four hits destorys a whole health bar, and you can keep going long enough to get about 3 1/2 health bars off of him.

*heh...wait 'til ya get to Ultra V-rated Episode 6, Remy. Just facing Fire Leo for the first time with no skulls is a real bitch.I'm just dreading UV already (I'm still on V). I heard that there were no skulls on UV, or when you play as Capt. Blue on any difficulty. Any advice? I don't even see how you could do some stuff without knowing where to evade. Like the tanks and jets, where you have to stun the Biancos or Cromartys just to damage the big machines. Just rely on luck, or are there some giveaways even without skulls?

Million
11-15-2004, 12:31 PM
(*sidenote--the "black enemies" I mentioned earlier are actually called Cromartys, not Biancos)
well, everything has a set pattern....so it's not hard to evade a hit from most things. The biankys, for example(aka, "putties":p)...they do something with their legs in the startup animation before a low hit, and they also do something specific before doing a punch. heh, I was playing last night and I still forgot exactly what the actions are...I remember it better when I'm actually playing, ...ah yes...they kinda do a boxer's dance if that makes any sense--for a low sweep. For a punch, they just lean back and wiggle their arms with no leg movement...again, like a boxer. The ballerina types...I really don't know how ya predict those...I just Slow and start hitting them immediately. The only tough ones to remember are the Cromartys(*the ninja putties), since they do 4 hits. It works out something like this:
1. High, Low, High Low
2. High, High, Low, High
3. Low, High, Low, High
4. Low, Low, High, Low.

The 3rd hit will always be opposite of whatever the 2nd hit was, and hit #4 will be different from the 3rd. Like the biankys, a leg motion signals that he's starting with a low kick...."putting the dukes up" like a boxer signals he's starting with a punch....I usually slow to see what hit #2 is going to be, and then let off slow since I know for sure the rest(3 is different, and 4 is the same as 2.)

Remy Saotome
11-15-2004, 12:32 PM

Ah, okay. I think I'll try to use that first room in Episode 7 to watch those motions and get ready. I'm still planning on playing Alastor through Adults first, but I'll want to be ready to tackle UV when I finish that.

RE:Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

I strongly advise that you guys not go into it with high expectations. The game is fun, but not a masterpiece. And there are also only 16 tracks, which seems pretty slim, though most of the tracks are pretty well-designed.

I've also made progress on Chapter 5 of Paper Mario. Admiral Bobbery has officially joined my party now, and as such I now have every member. My impressions (keeping in mind that everyone has only been ranked up once):
Yoshi (I named him Breaker) and Vivian are the best. Good diversity of attacks and easy to score criticals with.
Goombella, Koops, Admiral Bobbery - Good, but a bit limited. Still helpful and effective though.
Ms. Mowz - Kinda weak, but okay I guess. I bit too reliant upon special states over damage.
Madame Flurrie - Absolute worst character. Difficult to score criticals with, kinda weak, and just generally ineffective.

It went up when I ran over the cop. Then her jealous boyfriend comes after us so I have to lose him. After all that crap, I can finally take her home. I think story gets good during the human world campaign(genius I think), after all the other resurrections. Wait until you get to the mirage town and abandoned castle, it's some sick twisted stuff for a SNES game.

but yeah, I agree that Illusion of Gaia definitely has better story though

Beat Terranigma last night. It got very VERY good way too late in the game, right around dragon castle. If the story could've progressed throughout the entire game rather than just leaving it til the very end, it could very well have been top 30 of all-time in my books. But Soulblazer remains the truth.

On a related note, is magic any good in Terranigma? I never spent one magirock or used any magic throughout the entire game. If magic can make you surpass your already godly self, the game's challenge just dropped from an already easy Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, all the way down to Chrono Cross.
Sure, if you forget ff7 and mgs and suikoden and....
I strongly disagree with FF7 and MGS, but yeah Suikoden is godly.

Xenogears. I've always wanted to try this game out, but I'm not to big a fan of RPGs and even less a fan of Random Battles. The only rpg I liked (and bothered to finish) was Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast. I have heard alot of cool things about the game's story and thought it might be worth trying, plus the character designs were pretty attractive so I was thinking about giving it a go.

MGS I can understand it not appealing to everyone, but if you like rpgs like xenogears or suikoden how can you not see the greatness of FF7 ?

Anyone else notice that EYEZMAZE (the Tontie people) have a new game? (http://www.eyezmaze.com/pelpet/v0/index.html) It's called Pelpet, and it has deceptively deep gameplay and strategies, and gets nasty very quickly. I'm gonna have to reccoment this one... not as good as Tontie, but still.

So your opinion is like an asshole, I agree.
You go calling all the BOF games GREATEST rpgs ever?? HAHAHHA, not even the guys at capcom who made those games would say that.
Star Ocean 2? Disgusting, Vandal Hearts.....greatest ever?
Gimme a break.

kyroyorkerrra - Dude, WTF are you talking about? After looking at his sig, Duel=Master has extremely good taste in RPGs. To be honest, I didn't like Final Fantasy VII that much either. Anyone who says it's better than VI really needs to get their heads checked. However, Chrono Trigger > all.

No, he listed a whole bunch of rpgs, yes some were decent but lots were really really crappy pieces of crapola.
If you're gonna make a list of the 'greatest rpgs ever' make it short and sweet...mmmkay? And make sure you know what you're talking about, and don't bother critisizing an amazing game like FF7 when you got pieces of shit Star Ocean 2 and BOF in your hit list.

Weak. The game would have probably sold like shit here anyways though. It's being released in Europe so it will still be translated to English incase anyone interested want to import and still understand the story of the game.

so fucking what?
It's not the first time thats happened, just look at all those people that say CFE is good, or that 3s is the best game ever. Wow. Dont these people know that KoF is gods gift to fighting games? I mean, as if.
God, and like, that he forgot like... Shadow Hearts... and Betrayal at Krondor... and like... Jade Cocoon sucks!

OK
fuck peoples opinions and whatnot, just get along, yeah
you say some shitty games are good, some people say your a tard, everyone deal with it and get along

So anyway, I tried MGS3, pretty fun. need to get through Jak 3 and R&C3... then try to like get some other 3rd game cause you know, gotta go with the flow. Though I beat doom 3 awhile ago, hrmmmph.
OH, SMT3 : Nocturne... right, I gotta play that some more... got stuck before the fight with Dante... hes a bitch... I hate RPGs with hard mode... yowzers
Man, theres still a lot more RPGs to play, luckily theres also a bunch of good action games to balance that shit out, wooh.

And yeah, Castlevania : SOTN definitely the best psx game... I think... theres another high quality game that isnt coming to mind, oh well.

Oh shit, that avatar is ownage.

Maria is too fucking broken. Right now Energy burst and Critical MP are at level 5 on my current game. It destroys enemies for free. :wow:

Word. Her, Fayt and Albel=unstoppable. And if you think level 5 is bad, wait until lv 10. Then, put on a Victory Trophy and Berserker Pendant, and watch the damage rack up. Maria is one of the only characters (if not the only one) who can effectively use a Berserker Pendant, as she never has to get near the enemy. That way, that 1/2 defense thing can't bite you in the ass.

Which console is Star Ocean for? And how worth buying is it?

As for me, I've been playing Xenogears. I'm greatly enjoying it, although I firmly believe that something could have been done to make Gear combat less... monotonous. The man-to-man combat is great fun, though.
And damn, this game is long! I'm up to about 15 hours and I'm still on disk 1... shows what you can do if you don't pack your game full of massive FMV's.

Star Ocean's for SNES (the original), PSX (the sequel) and PS2 (the new one). And it's good. Really good. Though I prefer Tales of Symphonia.

As for XG, just wait till Disc 2...the long scenes are there. But XG is an excellent game for PSX, and my brother practically worships this title.

Quite the day today. We went downtown to ace's (the only surviving arcade) and found out they got a Metal Slug cab and a 3rd Strike cab. I guess I have to get into 3rd Strike again (sighmumblegroan) simply because its there.

But the real goodness came when we stopped by Blockbuster on the way home. After spending some time sorting through the used games we ended up getting: Arc the Lad(ps2, cousin requested this), KoF 2000/2001 (ps2), Gladiator (Xbox), Hunter (Xbox), BoF Dragon Quarter (ps2, present for sister), I-Ninja (cube), Wipeout Fusion (ps2), and I FINALLY GOT WAY OF THE SAMURAI (ps2, I'm probably the reason they kept it for rent for so long, I've probably rented it 6 times and renewed it even more). Everything was under 20 bucks, most were under 15, and some were under 10 (all in shitty cdn money).

Yeah, good day.

My power supply on my comp is shot so I'm posting this on my father's comp. Man, it sucks not being able to use my comp. My pop said he'd help me find a power supply so until then, I'm stuck using his comp.

Anyway, I've been totally addicted to DBZ: Budokai 3. The game isn't only one of the best DBZ games but it is also just really fun to play. The Dragon Universe mode lets you fly all over the world of Dragon Ball. The map looks just like the real map of the DB world. Even the Cell Games ring is in the middle of a road. The game looks awesome too. Everyone has their own unique stance and ki aura. Goku has a burning red aura when he uses Kaio Ken, a glowing yellow aura when he is a Super Saiyan, and lightning comes with SS2. I'm still getting used to the teleportation combo system. It rocks how you can disappear and reappear right behing your opponent but this move can be countered to prevent it from being overly powerful. The game even has a build up mode that blows away those sucky build up modes in Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout. You get to choose which stat you want to increase when you level up. I'm ready to take on any one of you anytime!!!

I just noticed it in my current EGM(mgs3 on the cover)...without much fanfare of course, DBZ:Budokai 2 is apparently supposed to come to Gamecube either Dec.1st or 2nd! I didn't think they'd port it at all....I may pick it up once it becomes cheap(20).

This 4th quarter of '04 has to be the greatest period for gaming in a long time...possibly ever. Just in these final months of this year, lets run down what's going on:
-Nintendo DS
-Sony PSP(*apparently?)
-Metal Gear Solid 3
-VIEWTIFUL JOE 2
-Halo 2
-GTA :San Andreas
-Midway Arcade Treasures 2
-Metroid Prime 2 Echoes.

It's almost...too much to handle...like Beyonce in a very small cheerleader uniform.

-Update ---I got VJ2 yesterday and I'm loving it. I bow to the altar of Viewtiful Joe greatness.
*sidenote...I saw the old VJ bobble heads in a comic book shop last weekend. I already have the cool one though.(cool one =regular Joe. The Viewtiful Joe bobblehead looks strange and kinda cheap.)

-Sylvia is hot.

More FFX yesterday. Just kicked Yunalesca's ass, it was a very intense battle. Now I'm catching up on alot of stuff I missed before.

Let's see, right now I'm getting all of Auron's overdrives, and one question, is Wakka's overdrive a must have? I can't play Blitzball for shit. I've only used the element reels just a few times throughout the game.
