UH FIGHT CLUB:
For those of you that don't know every fridays there is fighting game club meeting at UH Manoa. This club ussually has MVC2, CVS2, and other various fighting games ranging from TEKKEN to SOUL CAL to GGXX. It currently is also trying to put together some tournaments and some other things so I highly recomend checking this out. Its free your first time then from there you can pay $15 for 1 year membership or $3 per visit. This $ goes to the club funds to help purchase public mas sticks for everyone to play on. Couple random thoughts and ideas I wanted to throw out there.


1. APEX:

A few people been asking me what’s up with apex? Well it does work. The reason you don’t see results is because A. I don’t get the results after the tournaments like I used to. Someone usually snatches them up and I don't get a copy so I can input anything if I don't got a result sheet. B. Lately no ones been showing up for tournaments and they have been canceled. I plan to start inputting all tournaments and getting our apex going again. This means all UH tournaments and HBB tournaments. Even if its only 8 people I plan to input them starting with this Fridays HBB tournament. UH tournaments also will be inputted into apex.


2. EVOLUTION:

If you plan to go be sure to let others know if you want to room or fly together as a group. There is a thread for this so check it out.


3. SUPPORTING THE UH GAME CLUB:

I am surprised the UH club isn’t more busy then it is. I think one of there meetings was a big hit then since then its kind of hurting. Since EVOLUTION will be on CONSOLE, I really suggest everyone comes out and supports the UH club. Its only $3 per meeting or $15 for the whole year. Come on guys, this is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of going to EVOLUTION. DONT BE CHEAP. I paid $10 for my dues and clearing the other $5 this Friday. I know a few others also paid the full $15 to. The $ goes to MAS STICKS which everyone can use. The purpose of the club is to expand the scene and help new players as well as older players raise there game to the next level. I really hope to see more people showing up to these meetings. There worth while and it’s for a good reason. If you got any questions about the CLUB feel free to ask.


4. TOURNAMENT SUPPORT AND CANCELATIONS:

I noticed a lot of the tournaments lately have been canceled and a lack of player interest. Anyone here can fill me in on the reason? Is it the times of the tournaments? Cost? Do you want a higher entry fee for bigger prize $? Or lower entry Fee for less prize money? I think we all need to start showing up for tournaments. I plan to enter the MVC2 tournament this Friday. I suck at MVC2 and only play it for kicks but hey its only $5 freaking dollars, I spend more on soda in a day then this. So I suggest trying to help out and enter the MVC2 tournament / CVS2 tournaments / what ever tournaments if you can. EVO is coming up and everyone that plans to go could use the practice.


5. NEW GAMES AT BRIANS/ MACHINE LOCATIONS

I am going to push to see if Brians would be interested in bringing back Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. I hear some people want it back and I think I might have a solution for it. But if you’re going to cry for 3s then please support and show that you want it. I am also going to push for Super Turbo or Street Fighter 2 Anniversary Edition to come to Brians. These 2 games will be at EVOLUTION and I think people could use the practice. I also think some of the games need to be reshuffled. The playing conditions suck for certain games and there locations I think do more harm then good.

6. NEW SITE:
YK808 is working on a site for the UH flight club. The overall goal is to throw up Hawaii match videos, player profiles and other things of that nature. So stay tuned. I saw the layout so far and IMHO it has a nice feel to it. No word on date of the site but I will keep you updated.

PSX, what is the difference between American style 5 on 5 and Japan 5 on 5?

Ya should promote a few grudge matches, that lead up to the 5 on 5 as the main event.

American style one person sits down and plays all five players, then the next person sits down and plays all five players. This is continuous till everyone of one team plays the others. Japanese style differs in that one person can take out the whole other team. Last weeks mvc2 5on5 had pureelite beat the first four players and lost to djb13. So that meant that all blunt had to do was beat djb13 and we had four chances because erikbuild, chrisg, licious, and me did not play.:D

Heh sorry about the token thing. Were not like the rest of the mainland. We feel the line system is just as good and seeing everyone sees the same faces every week we don't gotta worry about cutting.

Every now and then we get a " Hey let me go next , I went to get tokens and ....." So yea other then that the line system works good for us.

The token system has a lot of flaws and people jacking them if you get what I mean. But when we return to evo this year....we use there system.

Darn Ryan got to the explanation before me. Basiclly its what he said.

Another example would also be in team CVS2 format.

American CVS2 team style = Each player picks a char to form a team.

Japanese CVS2 team style = Each player has his own team. For a 2 on 2, 3 on 3.

But basiclly Ryan covered it.

Well seeing the DDR forums no longer has the HBB section I am going to maybe stop by Brian's later tonight or some time during the week and let the cashier know the buttons are bad. If they work I say we do the 5 on 5 this coming saturday. That way friday night we know for sure if the buttons work or not.

Though I am a little disapointed on the HBB end , I know blunt is always down for 5 on 5 matches. But I have yet to see much support on the HBB end.

I know Tru don't post on srk, nor does Jeff but I would of though DJ-B13 would of responded or some kind of update to let us know on his end if Tru is able to play or if he was able to get a hold of anyone else to play.

CAPCOM FIGHTING JAM

Capcom has announced today that it will be releasing a new 2D fighting game titled Capcom Fighting Jam, which is scheduled for release in the Arcades, PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox.

According to Famitsu magazine, "Capcom Fighting Jam" plays as an all-star game which features characters from a number of Capcom's past fighting game releases. 11 characters are confirmed to be in the game thus far, one of which in particular is Ingrid from Capcom's unreleased title, Capcom Fighting All Stars. The other characters confirmed to be in the game goes as listed below, with two characters appearing from each title.

Not much is known about the game system in "Capcom Fighting Jam" so far. The title will play as a 2-on-2 team battle, but players can chose which character to use at the end of each round. The game also has different styles of power meter bars that match the various capcom fighting game titles , though it isn't known whether the styles can be picked freely or if they're fixed depending on the characters and the titles they debuted from.

Capcom Fighting Jam is currently 30 perent complete in development. No release date for either the arcade or home versions have been announced at the current time. Illustrations for the game and its screen images are drawn by ex-SNK artist, Shinkirou.

Nah relax its only 30 percent done. Wich means probably most of the backgrounds and not much work on gameplay, sprites etc.

As for Marvel I dont think you will see any V.S games from Capcom for a while. Seeing EA now has the rights and the next game of that type is EA VS MARVEL.

As for another 3s yea I dont think it will be it says 1-4 players. So this could be like a capcom style fighter with a lil GGXX ISUKA.

I mean, I know I'm not good and shit, but I like these games about as much as the next guy, and I hope to waste another good amount of my life playing this. :p

As for tonight, I might be there, provided I don't get called in today. I'm kinda on call for today because we are so goddamn short on cashiers. But it sounds like fun. P in theory ...yada, yada, yada.... your theory is very noobish/ 2nd hand information. At high levels of play its easier said then done. Theory means shit. Tournament #2 vs. Cro (2-0)
Tournament #3 vs. Jeff (3-0 , 3-0)
Tournament #4 vs. Shin (3-2, 3-1)

I traveled to Vegas and played Danny Leon in the finals of there CVS2 tournament and won, he ran P against me the whole 2nd set and I ran thru it (4-1) At Evo 2003 I played Ray Blade X and won both times we played in actual tournament play against P.

The methods you describe are to say P counters C.... is very scrubish. If you’re a good player you should learn to adjust and adapt to any bad match up. I only use 1 team and play counter matches all the time against me.... they don't work. As far as C only having 2 ways to attack shows your ignorance to high level play. Baits, pressure tactics, mind games, and randomness all play a big factor in ways to damage and approach a match. There is never just 2 ways for C to attack.

Shin, Jeff and Dom where the only real P players in my opinion. All the rest are imitators. What seperates them is the fact they don't whore there groove. They play straight up and have basics and fundamentals and use P to enhance this. All the rest are 1 trick wonders that try to parry and bait into super. :lame: They let there grooves play for them and it shows when there parrying is off there game gets shut down. Shin, James and Cro all had solid basics that only where enhanced with P. The rest couldn’t hang with me. Up and up in a poking war the rest would get owned by me and that’s fact.

What you should have said is P can irritate C if played correctly. P in now ways counters C.

I would love to know in detail where you think C gets countered by P? Seems to me your just being a back seat driver and repeating things you heard or read. Seeing you have 0 tournament experience regarding this please enlighten me where your knowledge and recent discovery came from.

Do your homework, before you make these claims. I have won every single CVS2 tournament in Hawaii that I have entered.

I have played DJB in every single tournament.

Tournament 1: vs. DJB I won 4-0 and came from being after being put in the losers’ bracket via the first round by Chad.
Tournament 2: vs. DJB I played in the winner’s final of my bracket and won 2-0, he later played Dom and lost in the loser’s bracket, I beat Dom in the winner’s bracket 2-0.
Tournament 4: I beat DJB 2-0 in the 2nd round of the tournament.
Tournament 5: I lost to DJB in the first set of 7 3-4 in favor of DJB. We played on machine 2 and I won 4-1.

Team CVS2 tournament: Me and Dizzle beat Ben and Brian. Most of the finals boiled down to me vs. Ben and Brian in a 3 chars to 2 match up. Dizzle was still really new to CVS2 and I had to carry more then my share of the load in the finals, I also did this with out Vega, I might add.

At EVO 2003: Me and DJB where in the same pool together. Pool 16 featuring Watts, Ohay1234, and Ray Blade X. I made it out of my pool of 16 by defeating Ray Blade 2 times, Watts, and Ohayo1234, and went on to place 9th at evolution, 1 game away from the final 8 on Sunday. DJB lost to a P player then Ray Blade X if memory serves me correct. Had DJB won his last match we would have played me at EVOLUTION.

You comment how I lost to so and so in casual. Seriously casual play means jack shit. I don’t even try hard in casual play. That’s fact, not opinion. Don’t ever base your assumptions of my skills on casual play. When it comes time for a tournament you can ask anyone that played me before what it’s like. I don’t fuck around and I will punish any mistake you make.

You tell people how I don’t enter tournaments…. Yea I don’t give a fuck. I don’t need to impress anyone and I got nothing left to prove or accomplish in the Hawaii CVS2 tournament scene. I dominated for a year + and defeated every single person that was put against me. I never backed down or flaked out. I stopped entering tournaments after EVO 2002 , I played 1 last time and let everyone know this would be there last chance to beat me. I am done with tournaments. It stopped being fun. I wanted to see the scene shake up and help other players develop there game. I spent more time trying to make other people better and raise the competition level.

I didn’t even touch CVS2 for the majority of the year leading into this past EVO 2003. I quit and only started playing it again in early May before I left for California. I entered numerous tournaments in California and got 2nd place on 3 occasions at Family Fun tournaments. Losing only to John Choi, and Sin. I think I did pretty dam good for a guy that didn’t practice CVS2 and rarely does till this day at EVOLUTION.

Yet you still put my game down and give retarded opinions on why I don’t enter tournaments or how DJB would beat me. I think personally you ride his nuts. You never provide logic to anything when you say that which to me indicate you ride DJB’s nuts.

Put your $ where your mouth is. If you really think DJB can take me, then I say prove it. Don’t just suggest the match. Put up the $ to back your talk. I am confident in my skills and have no reason to prove shit to anyone. My track record in tournaments speaks for it self.

As for DJB me and him don’t always see eye to eye on things but I will admit I still think he’s the guy to beat in CVS2 tournaments. I have always been honest about other players and there skills even if I like them or not. I know Purelite beat him in the last CVS2 tournament but on a overall scale I think DJB is still the top guy to play in CVS2 tournaments. I don’t write this shit to flame anyone I just point out facts. If he feels I’m 2nd rate to him and not at his level that’s his own opinion.

Personally I feel I have proven myself more then enough against any and all challengers. I say put anyone tournament record locally against mine and they couldn’t match up with me.

I still stand by and say Tournament #4 ME vs You was the best finals period. I worked for my but off that night, it was good stuff.

I agree I always said what gives me the most problems are K , good roll canceling, and randomness. And all those are fact...

I have the hardest time with Erikbuild, of all the players he gives me the most hardest time in CVS2 . Then you had Ernest and his RC insert move here, and well YK808 and Kal's randomness.... :D

I talked to llllll and Ernest today on the phone and I got a small bit of news for those interested about ECC.

lllll said Hawaii ain't got nothing on EC when it comes to Guilty Gear. He told me he got smoked a few times but beat a few players also.

lllll informed me Ernest got top placed in the top 16 area for CVS2.

Ernest let me know that Ricky won a CVS2 team tournament by himself running a Ratio 4 C groove Sagat and a Ratio 4 A groove Blanka. From the report Empire Black got 1 game on him then he basiclly roll canceled every single move with Blanka for a period and they just kept eating supers.

Overall sounds like he had fun ... o yeah for those that watched the ECC dvd the reports are true.... Phili Cheese Steak and Cheeseburgers are tier 1. Ernest confirmed it .


Hopefully if ernest gets a chance or lllllll they might update and give a better idea of what exactly happened and there thoughts.

I actually got 17th place if you twist it right. I missed the cutoff for the 16 man finals by one match. It's shit like this that keeps you playing for another year. I really hate C E.Honda.

Generally ECC9 was fun. Food was great - I lived on hamburgers for all of Saturday and Sunday. I still have my reservations about console tournaments in general though. I'd really much rather play on arcade cabinets as opposed to sitting on the floor (which is the best way for me to play on console).

8 on the Break is a neat little hole in the wall arcade. The owner is cool and most everybody is cool there. If you get hungry and/or thirsty you can sit at the counter and chill for awhile eating Cheese Steaks and/or drinking Bawls. It's like a little diner setup.

The neighborhood is actually nicer than what the old ECC dvds made it to be. It's in the suburbs kinda like Folsom but not as hot.

ST I got one win then got rocked two times in a row by Vega (two different Vega players). The guy who eliminated me also beat me out for top 16 in cvs2. His name is Julian and he's a great player.

3S I got a couple wins with Makoto and Alex then got rocked. I actually had that Florida guy but I fucked up. He kept on doing random low mk into super with Ken. Tell Cro I represented Makoto for him.

Ratio 4 Ricky cleaned up in the cvs2 team tournament. Advice to you cvs2 players: if somebody is raging with the RC electricity, chill and block it. You can AC the damn thing if you have the right character so you can regain some momentum but don't try to get into RC wars. You just can't win.

We left before the cvs2 finals. The top 3 left to play were Justin, Ricky, and Vessna (a Canadian guy). Ricky just put Justin in the loser's bracket with Justin playing mirror match against Ricky (A-groove Vega, Sak, Blanka(2)). The rest of the tournament, Justin ran mostly A-groove Blanka, Sak, Bison I believe.

The top 4th and 5th place people were JSMaster and Josh Wong respectively. Other notable players in top 16:

Eddie Lee
Lifetime Boy
Arcade Kid
Flo
Julian
Ratio 1 Beatdown
Nestor
The guy who wore the Canadian flag cape at B5
Sanford (I'm not sure - so you'll need to confirm that seperately - WRONG - see below)

Canada made a strong showing overall in cvs2. Watch out.

Seattle won the MvC2 Team Tournament but since llllllllll paid more attention to that I'll let him do an update of his own. llllllllll did notice a lot more unmashable hypergrab-tempests he told me. He also feels it has something to do with air-dashing before doing the hypergrab so if any Marvel players want to figure it out go for it.

llllllllll ran Charlie and Tail of Jesus alternatively throughout the weekend but again, I'll let him do his own update . . . once he wakes up.

Overall in cvs2 I'd say Hawai`i has a good chance of making a splash this year at Evolution. I've only had 2 good practice sessions in the last month (one with Nibor when he visited Boston, and one with Nestor, KCXJ, and Jimmy when they came over to my place) and I did pretty well considering . . . I'm assuming you guys are practicing more than I am so you guys should have your shit tighter than me by now. I'd better see almost everybody from Hawai`i at Evo this year.

Oh yeah. They did run Mortal Kombat . . . ummm. Bryan Tyson is pretty good with Kabal. llllllllll saw some cool Reptile strats.

EDIT: I take that back. You guys might be getting more practice than me but I know that a few of you aren't getting better practice than me. And those few people have the biggest tendency to mouth off about Hawai`i's abilities in games. Just remember to practice hard and prepare for the worst.

The person I play most often right now, would have to be PSX. AND I GET OCVED BY HIM, WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT.

Even though I work with Drugzz, we rarely play, once every two weeks. I never see DJ B around, he usually comes after I leave Brians.

I play against Team Blunt Members more often than I SEE DJ B. I haven't played DJ B since March.

Your departure from Hawaii, has had a GREAT IMPACT on the CVS 2 scene.

Damn, wish Hawaii could hold something a tourney that big.

cvs2 and mvc2 both had 8 pools of 16 players each. mvc2 actually had slightly more players than cvs2. Word-of-mouth had the total headcount around 200 people which means most people played both games.

I noticed a lot of crossover to GGXX also. I think it's safe to say everybody there played in atleast mvc2 or cvs2.

Good point there. I remember some people here locally saying they would own up with RC electric and I said just fn block it. Problem is now eliminated. No hawaii player imho can win a RC war with Ricky and a good handful of mainland players. They have RC skills in tourney play. I have yet to see RC wars in a local tournament and I doubt even Drugz could go up and up in RC wars with a Buk, Ricky or even EDMA. Advice to you guys just block that shit.

I remember seeing this at EVO , me and Ryan swear people can't mash out. All the top players were eating this and I am fairly confident they know how to mash. Im happy you pointed this out. A lot of players think practice sessions make them better. They really don't. The best honest way to get practice in is small pool of players. Usually between 2-4. From there its good to honestly ask questions. Don't feel like your a scrub. Heck before EVO the night before I asked Ricky and Justin if I could go to training mode and I have a list of questions and things I want help with. I openly admit I was worried about C sagat vs C Blanka. I learned how to reverse Dragon Punch with sagat and a load of other tactics vs chun. Some folks locally think the more they play the better they get. Trust me your just keeping your reflexes sharp , your not learning anything the majority of the time. Secret to getting better is small practice sessions. Training mode = the best tool ever , if something urks you go to training mode and figure out how to counter it.


Either way mad props on the tournament Ernest , 100 + Cvs2 players I give you props on placing up there. From the sounds of it was a load of A and C grooves. Much props.

I'm actually moving to Hawaii this time for good. I don't know exactly how long I'll be there though, I'm pretty fucking sick again and it's pretty bad. I think I'll be lucky to make it through next year this time, as it more serious than it was last time.

It's my understanding from gramps that we will be going from July 27-August 2, Tuesday - Monday. The reason I am waiting is because I'm not flying out with everyone back home. After evo., I'm gonna go to nor.cal. to stay up there for three weeks. So I wanted to know what were your flight dates/times/locations (ontario or lax) and also how much would the car/room be? It would be more efficient if we were to book a flight near yours. Also, I figured that room would be about 120 or 140 (split amongst four and maybe even lower if we get five people) and car would probably be about 70/person. I was checking online, and I couldn't find anything under 400 (sorry Theo, I gave you the wrong estimate) as of late. Assuming that prices will probably go higher the closer we get to evo., it would be best for us to get our shit together now. As far as I know, the people that will be traveling are gramps, me, who, erikbuild (not sure how he's working out his trip), and maybe yk808. I haven't talked to who in a week or so, but last I checked, he wanted to go.:D
