GGXX FRIDAYS, ATLANTA GEORGIA
My friend Clay Ellison, GGXX/Marvel player and holder of all the marbles is currently planning on hosting a weekly gathering for GGXX in atlanta GA, friday nights starting this week, late afternoon till whenever. He has a huge place, a gigantic white wall(projector perhaps?), and all in all I think his place is the perfect place. It is in S Atlanta, and easy to get to.
IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE ATL SOUTH BEING A FORCE IN THIS GAME be there. We will be playing every friday and if you want to get good at GGXX, this is your chance. You can look at Miami and see how this is an excellent thing to participate in-nobody down there played anything that I've ever heard of except navarro and jason wilson from wayyyy back in the day, and biggzy in cvs, then Heidern98 has GGXX sundays and a few months later there are like 20 G's in GGXX from Miami. There is no reason why we cant be as good or better than those guys but we need the motivator to play and I hope that this is it. Right now there are about 10 guys interested in playing. If we can get even 6 or 7 of those to show up on a regular basis and practice hardcore that one night a week, we will be dangerous, we have that much potential here. This will be the official thread for this gathering, please guys support the scene here and let this flourish. Everyone here has potential that they are not showing because there is no regular meetup/playing session. Clay has a huge place and he is offering us just that, lets not pass it up! Strike while the iron's hot and the next time we go to a tournament, ATL will be taking the top 3-4 spots and people will be like "damn those atl people are scary in ggxx". Eli is doing this for 3s, holding monthly tourneys at his place and I know that if that is supported, it will flourish also. SUPPORT YOUR SCENE IF YOU CARE ABOUT GAMES otherwise, you are always gonna be 2 and out.
Come on guys, lets put ATL on the map.
Right now these are the guys that I think can make it, yeah we are calling you out! lol. If you need rides, call me. Cell#(256)452-5205. If you call me in advance, I will find a way to bring in GGXX players.

These are just the people that I know personally, and already you can see alot of the best characters will be represented. I know there are alot more of you out there that I don't know. Michael, Charles and myself are already very solid and the others on the list are getting better every day. EVERYONE THAT PLANS ON GOING, POST IN HERE AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. People will pitch in and get food, and all the players will criticize and give each other the input we need. GGXX is a game where experience is extremely important, more so than in most games due to every character having tons of dirty tricks. Come out and get the experience you need. Hopefully all you guys will come out and show your support for one of the best new 2d fighters in years.
Clay if you could plz post your address and directions from the major interstates that would be dope, as well as what time you want people to start funneling in.
Hope to see everyone there this friday.

This is Mike, and I'm definitely getting in on this. I can't say it any better than Colin, but I too want to see GGXX flourish in ATL. If you ever wanted serious competition now is the time for us to build our scene! I know we have the people, the interest and the talent to make Atlanta GGXX strong. All we need is the experience.
I personally will do everything I can to help other players out and help everyone on their game as much as possible. Colin, Charles and I feel strongly about GGXX as a game worthy of putting your time into, so please show up this Friday and support the scene!
I can also promise that we're all good guys too, so come on out this Friday and have some fun as well as good games.

I am hoping to see big turnout friday nite, so here are basic directions. I live in college park, which is south of atlanta, best way to get there is 285. Take 285 to exit 2, camp creek, and go east, away from campl creek marketplace. You will go through one light by a checkers and mcdonalds, then come to another light. Hang a left here, on washington road. Drive straight thru one light, soon after the light there will be a bus stop for marta on the right, turn here, the road is rugby lane. Drive till you get to a stop sign, then hang a right onto rugby circle, after the right the road immediatly splits, take the left split and drive till it runs into another road, the yellow house on your right is mine. I can give directions from 85 south for anyone interested, and it might be easiest the first time to meet right off the interstate and follow me as the turns are easy to miss.

This is a great idea.... If this gets big enough, we can easily get peeps from sc,aug,nc and Tn to come to bi weeklys :) but I will be there for sure... and if anyone wants strats and tips on there char post here and I will bring you a ton of info on friday...

Ahhh I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.... This is indeed very possible people. When I started Sundays, no one really played the game but in about 2 months I had more then 40 - 50 differnent people that had attened at one point. The number of people varied from 10 to 25 each week. It is a great experience and now Florida has one of the best GGXX scenes in the USA.
Here are some of the things I did to get it started.
Go on MIRC and download combo vids and match vids and pass them out to people. This is what really made people start understanding the game right away...
A big movie that you should download is called GGXX EXTREME EVOLUTION which is not the tourney evolution but the analyisis of strats for the games. It shows combos strats traps tricks etc for every character. I passed those out to people and eventually everyone started using strats and got alot better.
Drinks gotta have em.
Good people. Anyone who is an asshole is not welcome.
Dont turn on marvel... It makes the GGXX players start magnitizing away from GGXXX.... sucks I swear....
Play lots of other games but make GGXX always the main focus. Take it easy on newbies and get them to ask questions and try stuff out.... Then rape their sorry asses.
Watch your shit... dont let anyone steal shit or go out of state with anything:lame:
Try to have lots of systems and controllers and games. I suggest picking up an extra ggxx. Have people bring shit even if they dont wanna use it.
Make people play on sticks... changes your life.
Record matches and give them to people... Its good shit to watch yourself and make sure your not developing patterns....
Most of all make sure everyone is having fun and laughing. Good times are the best and try to keep each other in good spirits. Dont let things die down (like i am) and try to post alot about what happened. Throwing cheesey minni tournies is a great idea free of course and ordering pizza is messy but fun.
Good luck guys hope things turn out well and if my crew and I were a part of this inspiration then that truly means I have done good things on this ball of earth.... good luck.

I'm defintely in on this, but my biggest conflict right now is work. I have to work at a restaraunt and we have a set, concreate sched. Which means I will always work friday nights, unless i modify my sched or request the day off. My question is how late do you plan on playing friday nights? I know this is probably a stupid question since we always play to the wee hours, but I can get there after work at around 11:30-12ish. Thing is I also have to get up the next morning at 8am to go back to work. So I don't mind getting in like 3-4 hours of practice in. As long as I can get a ride back to my crib,it's all good. I'm down. Not sure If i can do it this weekend, but next weekend should be a definite bet. I can't wait for this.
halcyonryu

Brandon, we will be there till mad late. Try to adjust your sched and get sat morning off if you can, man, i know at a restaraunt you will never get fri night, but if you come in at midnight and can stay till whenever, you will get tons of play.
Oh yeah we will have drinks, I am serving EXTREME EVOLUTION and tons of match vids on my share folder on AIM and so is Michael (Mocharay52).
And hell yeah, Jeff, what you did down there is a great inspiration, you guys have shown that you can take a place with no players and turn a little interest into real results. I am sure we can do the same here and come out of it with 4 or 5 really good players in the deal.
Also, GGXX friday is GGXX friday, not marvel friday, ggxx will be the only game we are playing. If someone hooks up another tv, it will be another GGXX dammit. Also we have copies of #reload, after reload becomes the accepted tournament game(probably after evolution), we will start playing that.
Also about recording matches, we will be running the VCR during the entire duration of GGXX fridays. Anyone that wants a copy of it, just ask and we will make one for the cost of the tape. WATCHING YOURSELF PLAY RULES btw. You learn a ton from watching yourself fuckup because you catch fuckups you didnt see before. You can literally look and say "oh damn, I lost that match RIGHT THERE...".

Everyone here sucks at it, dont worry. We will teach each other. As for a ride, as long as you can stay really late I can pick you up. I cant leave at midnight to take you home though, but as long as you work out some way to spend the night you will be okay. Dude tell your parents you gotta fight for the right to party and shit.

Slayerx4 and Epsilon_ it'd be great if you guys could make it, don't worry about how well you play, in fact we're all still on the learning curve. And like Colin said we're all here to help each other, hit me up on AIM sometime.
its about time cuz some of the TN players have been tryin to play with u guys, but ur so unorganized that no one can get in touch wit u. no one responds anytime i post. when we are in ATL. and if u start having biweeklys at least 4 TN players will show.

Exactly, I know we have been unorganized and that is why we are doing this. In the future, any friday that you want to come down, there will be a jam session. Once a month there will be a tournament in Athens. So either way you guys can come down and play whenever you want pretty much.
You remind me also, the Augusta people like Sora, Raph, etc. If you guys can come out that would be really great for you and us, you can get experience against a wider variety of characters and so can we. Same goes for charleston, and any other somewhat nearby place. If out of towners want to come we will accomodate you I will make sure of it.

Alright guys, I'm really psyched about this, let's make this a big success. See you all tomorrow.
I am going to try and make it out at least once every couple of weeks. Hell if I can manage to get off saturday I will come down friday night. I need a ps2 so I can practice combos and attack patterns. That kind of stuff is hard for me to learn on the fly while playing. This will definately be good for the scene, as experience vs all the characters is a huge plus in ggxx. As clay's brother I would like to say Please respect the house and don't trash it!

I'd also like to add my thanks Clay, really appreciate you letting us play at your place.
Great games, and a good turnout, special thanks goes to Franc and Jay making it. We'll turn you guys into GGXX beasts in no time. Colin and Charles, you know how much it means to me that I can actually rely on you guys to be there. You are all the backbone of the ATL GGXX scene.
I played like crap on Friday, at least it got a little better towards the end. I'm going to have to work like crazy to get back to beating you guys.
Colin your Venom gets better everytime, amazing that you learn several tricks each time, just need to organize what to use, but that's much harder with Venom than it is with Ky.
I've got too much to say about your Eddie Charles, you devise new mixups and unblockable tricks everytime, and it's getting harder and harder to beat you. Too good.
Guys, this was definitely a success, and we have no where to go but up from here.
See you all next Friday!
halcyonryu
04-25-2004, 05:52 PM
Well the thing is with venom, I spent all day working on perfecting/testing 1 or 2 things i came up with, next time I'll do some other ones. Literally there are just too many setups and different situations for you to work on them all at once, but then again thats why I like the character. Once I get all the different possibilities down I am going to have like, 8-way guessing games on people every time I knock them down. Theres a reason why the japanese venoms almost always win matches where they manage to connect a sweep.
Of course itll be a few months before I can actually remember all the shit I need to do. One thing I am gonna have to work on is, as you guys said, I need to run up throw more. Even if it gives burst yeah you are right it is a good way to put the opponent on the floor. Plus I might as well get used to it, since I can throw without giving tons of burst once we start playing #r :). I need to learn how to bait bursts like charles does, either that or I need to learn how to use my own bursts a little less predictably because that guy blocks all of my bursts. And when a blue burst gets blocked or avoided its forever before you get another one. Need to use frc stingeraim from midrange more and dash behind it and mix it up. I need to learn the timing for the frc, airdash combo. I need to use more of my opportunities to pull my balls out of my pants. And I need to watch the opponent's actions and hit my balls at the angle i need to more instead of just sending as many balls at you guys as possible, you are getting past ball formations that you shouldnt be getting past if I was a G. I need to be letting both hits of my sweep hit sometimes against characters that are hit by both hits(i.e. Ky, Sol).
Charles' eddie is getting more solid every time I see it, and the same is true of Michael's Ky. Clay gets better every time he plays also, just needs to pin down the millia combos every time and be a little more patient and he will be dangerous also. If this keeps up we are going to make ourselves a force. Hope to see everyone and more there next week.

As far as I know, the meeting this friday (today) will be at Clay's again, the address from one of the first posts is:

college park, georgia 30337
It's a little tricky to find, so you might want to contact Colin for Charles directly on AIM if it's not too late
Colin - halcyonryu
Charles - pimpjuice2k24eva
Clay - boogaloobboy
It'd be great if you could make it, we really need that Slayer experience. I only got to play your Slayer once, at the outside casual at FR7. Your Slayer's got a lot of potential, and if I remember correctly you won  .
Keep up the good work guys, just as a side note, I got some mad GGXX in the locals arcades here in HK. Played too many characters too remember, but that backdashing we were practicing has been mad useful, I backdashed out of an Eddie unblockable, and the guy literally paused for a second, like "What the hell?" And it general if f*cked up a lot of people's pressure strings.

It's still true it can't be taken seriously, but I've been having more fun with it, and there's advanced strat possible the more I think about it. I think this game could be something.
I got the Outlive Encyclopedia today, it comes with a DVD which is to GGI as Extreme Evolution was to GGXX. With the home version (Japan) coming out in late July, hopefully I can bring this back and we can start on this for fun. The team tactics possibilities have me excited now. We're going to have mad crap, like Greed Sever, Invite Hell (the drill) unblockable! If they don't FD anyway (now blocks high and low). Eddie's a good partner btw, if he just stands back and throws in drills as his partner attacks, it's too good. You can use it to supplement a finished pressure string/combo, and let his partner start again. Or, if his partner slips up and starts getting hit, the drill can be used to save them. Too good. And there's so much more.
Oh oh, Ky has a new FRC, after an aerial Vapor Thrust (unsure about a ground VT). You can do stuff like finish a Ky air combo with Vapor Thrust, FRC, turn, aerial stun edge, to cover your back. Logical FRC, so you don't get hit in the back after a successful combo or Vapor Thrust.
And about those other characters you guys like to use....
Eddie has a new Drunkard Shade FRC (the reflector), and Venom has a new FRC when you place down aerial balls.
So how was this week's play session? Someone's gotta tell me how Charles's Dizzy is progressing, and if Colin really did get better again.
halcyonryu
05-08-2004, 05:15 PM
Charles' Dizzy is getting alot better actually, he does a lot of damage very quickly if you let him touch you heh. It's very dangerous.
I think I am getting better every week at ggxx, i still have one hell of a time fighting Eddie with Venom though. All the other chars charles plays i had a winning record with venom, but eddie beat me hella times before i finally got him. I have to rethink everything about how I play that match because it is so difficult to antiair Eddie, my 6P totally doesnt work. I get counter hit every time I try it. 2HS works better but that is so slow that it is asking to die if you miss it or he floats down a little slower than you anticipated, plus that's not 100 percent either. I'll come up with something, I thought that I had something but it didnt work that well unfortunately so I need something else. I wish I got to play more.
kombatfreak
05-08-2004, 06:29 PM
hmm good to hear everyone is doing better at least. Wish you got to play more? Were there a lot of people there? Or do you just mean in general.
Um, well as far as playing Charles's Eddie goes, in the name of bettering our scene (I'm not trying to undermine you Charles) I'll share what I know about playing against him. I do know our characters have differences, and keep in mind this stuff doesn't always work for me either.
This is theoretical, but if he's floating for a really long time, do you have time to charge and try a HS carcass raid? I guess you've already tried ball setups? Maybe P ball, S double head morbid? How about running under him and changing the situation to your advantage? Sometimes, if you can catch him off guard when he's floating, you can just jump up air throw him. It helps if you have distractors. Like, as Ky I'll be throwing fireballs and stuff. I was thinking with Venom you could place balls down, then just jump up throw? The other thing is to patiently block his rushdown. Look for the overheads and throws. Eddie's rushdown is such that you tend to get punished if you try to get clever with counters or escapes. Look for places to jump out, but be ready to FD if he has an anti-air waiting. Otherwise just block and wait for an opening. Lastly predict the drills, I think you do it already though, just have to think of a suitable response.
Dunno if that'll be any help at all, and hopefully it won't piss Charles off. Although reading my own advice, it already looks kinda vague....also he beats me all the time so take it for what it's worth.
Maybe with school finishing you guys will get to play more? Good luck.
P.S. I played an Eddie in the arcades who thought he was Charles, I had to put an end to that though. I also played a couple of Venoms who were far worse than you.
just wanted to say TN will be at the 5/22 tourney...and against floating eddie, abuse vert. ball.
halcyonryu
05-09-2004, 03:59 PM
You cant really vertical ball eddie unless he floats really high or for a very long time. Airthrow is the best option, but he can counter that with jump K. Charles doesnt hover like a scrub he just uses it to delay his approach randomly sometimes. I looked online for eddie v venom matches and i found about 8 of them with the best venoms(ertai, mozaiku, zakiyama). Unfortunately I cant find any of venom winning, and these are the best venoms in the world vs eddies ive never heard of. It's a hard match that I'll have to overcome hopefully, I'm just glad charles plays him so i find this out now and not at some tournament somewhere.
By play more, I mean once a week really isnt enough I think to learn a new game but it's all I can pull really, with the family and all here.
By venoms worse than me you mean not as good or better lol?
kombatfreak
05-10-2004, 03:10 AM
haha, by worse I mean actually worse than you. It seems Venom isn't that popular over here either, which works towards your advantage.
Yeah, gotta give Charles props for bringing that Eddie experience to both me and you. It really pays off everytime I fight an Eddie now. Thanks Charles.
Yeah, I know he doesn't hover like a scrub, you just have to do enough stuff and hope you can catch him off guard with the airthrow. And for some reason, the occasional 6P works for me, I dunno though I think it's a combination of Ky's 6P, and also which air attack Charles uses. It's much harder to 6P the j.K, but it works better on the j.S. Still, remember that although I can win some matches against Charles's Eddie, I have to fight like all hell to do so.
And on a side note, I played a really nasty Sol and Testament today. From my point of view they were indistinguishable from average Japanese players. Definitely the best I've seen so far, they did all the little things, like IB certain moves, backdashing at well chosen points, etc. You know they're good because not only do they have solid offense and defense, they consistently do the little advanced things, you know, the things I don't do enough....
Fared better against the Testament (won 2 out of 10....ouch) than the Sol (lost 7 straight....but came reaaallllyyy close a few times). On one hand, I'm really glad to have this level of comp, but everytime I play really evil players, I can't help but think about what I'm missing, and how I'm supposed to reach that level myself. Something tells me I'm close though, since I'm starting to win against these guys.
I really wish you guys were here, that's not to rub it in, but I really mean it. I really wanted to see how you guys would've fared against these two today. Problem with playing Ky is that you constantly have to fight against familiarity, everyone knows Ky's tactics and pressure strings here. I was thinking to myself, if Colin or Charles were here, I know you guys would tear shit up for at least a few rounds.
Why do only scrubs play GGI? I kept looking for a good partner, but instead ended up winning a bunch of 2 on 1's. That should never happen the way this game is, but no one even knows how to play. Nobody tries to use the new GGI moves either, so that always confuses them. They're all like, what the hell, Ky can call up a big column of lightning?

I can only wish I was there also. Even though I can hardly make time to come into Atlanta, which I hope to change, I wouldn't mind going toe-to-toe with some of the players over there. But I have to wonder if I'm even close enough to be considered a "real competitor". I love Guilty Gear to death, and though I play a ton of other videogames, Guilty Gear seems to be the only game I have some knowledge in. But my problem seems to be fear, I freaked at FR7, and haven't gotten over the massive beatings I took by Potemkin, Eddie, and Sol.
I think before I can become real tournament competitor, I need to figure out the best strategies or at least become acquainted with FRCs. I dunno, either way I'm up for a fight, Anji backs down from no one.
See you guys around

I'm gonna come up to your place at like, 4 or 5, is that okay? Then from there we can decide what is up. Everyone, call me before you come out so I can tell you how to meet us, we are going to be at charles' place not clay's since clay has fallen off the face of the earth. Charles is in north atlanta, close to all the interstates so it's easy.
Anyway call me charles, we will set up the details.

Okay guys, I've come to the understanding that while I still have a long way to go with Ky, from here on out it's just learning little things for him. So after a conversation with my teacher in HK, he's finally convinced me to start learning some new characters.
Current experiments are Testament, May and Robo-ky, we'll see how many of those develop into real characters for me. Oh, and you guys better start playing Reload soon.
This week may have been a failure, but we gotta keep this up. We will have a scene eventually.
Thanks for the invitation Raph, it's really appreciated because we need all the comp. we can get. I'll see you in a few months for sure. Btw, there are some evil Baikens here, and I'm learning a lot of stuff, so watch out!

Okay guys, I did some thinking, and I think this is one of the things our scene needs. Compared to the other scenes, we don't have a strong unified identity yet for GGXX yet, so here goes.
We need to make it clear who's in our scene, and what we're called dammit! Also what characters we use should be advertised and what colors we use, because it adds to our identity.
I need ideas for our team name. You know, like how SC has Team Bum's House and Miami has T.E.K. I'm going to list our information, you guys add whatever's missing.
Charles "Pimpjuice69" Hinton, also a proud member of T.E.K.
This man is the master of playing Eddie on pad. Anyone who has ever thought playing Eddie on pad was impossible needs to see this man play. Master of floating and weird unblockable mind games. His Dizzy is on the rise.
Plays:
Eddie (XX) - Purple (SP+K?) or Blue (Start)
Dizzy (XX) - ? often picks stripper Dizzy
Ky (XX) - Holy (SP+?)
Sol (XX) - ?
Testament (XX) - Purple (SP+?)
Colin "halcyonryu" Caldwell
This man needs no introduction anywhere in the Southeast. Colin has mad skills in every game he touches and learns faster than anyone I know. Within 3 play sessions he can already rape my Ky. Look out for his Venom's 4 way mixup. 5 if he starts throwing more.
Plays:
Venom (XX) - Default (P) or Red (?)
Axl (XX) - ?
Bridget?
Michael "kombatfreak" Young
I'm a scrub, but dammit, I'm proud to represent Ky. More people need to know how Ky is played. It's all about Ky. That's it.
Plays:
Ky (XX) - Black (Start)
(#R) - Green/White (HS)
(Isuka) - Black (K)
May (#R) - Purple (SP+HS)
Testament (#R) - Navy Blue (SP+HS)
Robo-Ky (#R) - Red/Silver (HS)
Scrub Sol (XX) - Blue (S)
Clay "Chaos"
One of the few Millia players in the area, definitely brings that unique rushdown to the table. Everyone needs to play Millia more.
Plays:
Millia (XX) - Yellow hair, dark skin, aqua (?)
Eric "HaoGui" Jeffries
Just getting into GGXX, but this man has the Japanese hook ups. Always willing to give us a lesson or two. Those of us from Atlanta already know Eric has the 3S and CvS2 skills.
Plays:
Baiken (XX) - Black (?)
Anji (XX) - ?
Tauris "TBear"
Plays:
I-no (XX)
Jam (XX)
Franco
Plays:
Sol (XX) - ?
Yusuf "MBurningstar" Joseph
also a member of Team Mavericks Unleashed
Plays:
Anji (XX) - Black Hakama(Start) , White Hakama(Dust)
Ky (XX) - Regular Color(P) , Blue Outfit(HS)
Sol (XX) - Blue, White(S)
Bridget (XX) - Black, white(Start)
Raul "Totenkreuz" Arredondo
Plays:
Slayer - Default color
Axl (XX) - X-blue color
Millia (XX) - Default color
Ky (XX) - Dust-Black/White color
Johnny (XX) - Start-Red color
Baiken (XX) - Dust-Blue/Gray color, Start-Brown sorta color, X-Red Color
We also need to get some sort of regular meeting place set, and as always, we're always looking to add to our scene.
We can't give up on this guys!

Taken from an old GCC post, credit goes to Edward "Skuldnoshinpu" Chang? Also to Kugler for reposting this in SRK.
Baiken
Standing HS: Added gatling to 6K
Dust: Startup 29->25F
2K: Added gatling to 6K
Sweep: Base damage correction 70%. Recovery 9->13F. Worse priority
Jump D: Ground hit downs opponent. Increased guard damage
6K: Attack level 3->4. Damage 22->24. 1~11 invincibility to throws. Ground counter hit stagger max changed from 39->43F
Air Dash: Movement speed lowered
Sakura: Active 4->2F. Reach extended. FRC point added at 17~18F.
Youshijin: Recovery 18->22F. Attack level 2->1. Hitback reduced. Base damage correction 70%. Ground counter hit and air hit causes the opponent to fly higher. Untechable time reduced.
Youzansen: Causes them to float higher. Is techable on a ground hit.
Mawarikomi: FRC point added at 17~19F.
I'm dead serious, you guys better start playing #R hardcore after Evo, I only think it's a lot better now, after having serious comp. in it.
Thanks for posting so much in this thread Jio, it needs all the help it can get, and it's good that you're keeping in touch. Much appreciated. Good luck at the tourney this weekend man.

Okay then so what are we doing tonight? Someboday call me okay, dont want to drive all the way to atlanta for nothin since I'm gonna be staying for that tournament tomorrow probably. Thats a lot of time away from the family in a row so I'd like to know if something is happening tonight.
EDIT
I guess there is no tournament so I can be a little more lenient about staying late tonight, Charles if you want it to just be me and you grinding shit thats fine by me, I hope someone else comes but in the end im starting to lose faith in the rest of the people in Atlanta a little. There were like 15 people I have been told personally were interested yet in the end its just me Charles and Michael that actually come out, and Michael is in hong kong for 3 months so yeah. Even Clay who originally planned to host the thing has disappeared off the face of the earth apparently. Please dont let me be right in assuming that i was bs'ed by that many people, this is in your own city so you people can make it out if you want to. If not I'm just gonna stop posting in this thread and just hook things up on the phone with Charles from now on. This isn't directed at anyone in particular so noone get all upset about it I know that Yusuf and his people have a little bit of a hard time getting out so I don't have a problem with that, things come up, but there are a lot of people that tell me to my face constantly yeah I'll be there and then have a different excuse or a turned off phone every single week, it gets kinda old. How far is Augusta or wherever the hell the Bums house people live, I am thinking that in order to practice against more than just the characters that me and charles play we are going to have to travel to one of these places.

Yeah man, I am pretty upset too. I have three other people who play GGXX, and it's only Raul and I who really want to try to get out there. The rest don't care since one thinks he's so great at Marvel and other games, GGXX doesn't matter...which in the end effects the only driver we have with his decision not to go, and he's a lazy-ass out of this world. But, things will look up, I have to learn to drive soon, and once I get transportation of my own, you'll be seeing me and MY Anji a lot more. Until then, Raul and I are going to practice and I'll still make it to the tournaments that I can, wish it could be Evo2k4, but I don't think I can scrap up over 600 bucks, so there's always next year. Talk to you guys until then.

I have no doubts about you charles, you have always told me when you werent interested and thats cool, and when you say you are you come out and thats cool. I always know what to expect from you cause you actually do what you are saying you will do.
It's when you ask 11 people on tuesday, wanna play friday? and they all say hell yeah! Then you get like 4 PM's friday afternoon saying actually fuck that i gotta dry my hair and the rest of the people cut their phones off, that is what pisses me off, just be genuine, if you dont give a shit, post I DONT GIVE A SHIT in the thread and then I will stop worrying about you, no shame in that. I can understand your feelings mister.....guy whos name i dont exactly know...but eh its hard for me and yusuf and crew to make the long drive there. Gas prices are soaring...and my friend is really trying his hardest to work his ass off to get ahead in life...but no time for stories the point is, sometimes if you put a little too much faith in something you know things could go wrong this is usually the result. Some of the people must have more important things happen at the last second. Although if they straight tell you their coming and they dont tell you anything and not show up then be mad! All im saying is is that sometimes things come up and that makes it harder to adjust schedules previously planned. I hope you're still interested in GGXX fridays and not bothered as much about some shady people, it is a good thing and you should continue to hold meetings whenever possible until your convinced its not meant to be. If we could make it out there fridays we most likely would be out there fridays but as i said earlier the gas prices arent helping and neither is the distance we have to cover. I am not going to make any more posts about trying to come. If we can come for sure i will post up. Thank you for you time and patience. I just played a really good Venom here this past Friday, and it got me thinking. I talked to the players here and they told me this guy really is about the only one of his kind. So I realized, even here in Hong Kong, good Venom players are really rare.
With that said, we're really lucky to have Colin's Venom playing with us in Atlanta. You guys better appreciate how hard that is to find and make it out to a few gatherings at your convenience.
Jeff's post about making time has made me all mushy, so I'm going to say this again, Colin, Charles, Atlanta is really lucky to have you guys in our playing scene, because your will and dedication is unmatched. It's one thing to have a great representation of a rare character, but it's even harder to find gamers and friends with the will and hospitality that you guys have shown.
Get gaming guys, and remember, we're the only place in the ATL South and maybe greater that has a good Venom so come on out.

Also, if anyone can speficially direct me to this GGXX Extreme Evolution, I will just get it myself, but aside from that, everything's fine on this side of ATL. Just wanted to let you guys know what's new, which is nothing. Lol.

GGXX Extreme Evolution... its kinda hard to find I will bring a copy to athens if you want... and bridget is fun she has alot of setup's and 2 to 3 semi unblockable traps.

I won't be in Athens. Blockbuster is showing no heart in giving me days off, and to be honest, I'm so not ready. I walk into Athens, I'd come out bottom rank, I was lucky to make rank 27th( or was it 17th ) at FR7. I'd get raped, simply put. So, I'm going to honestly back down in this one, sorry for letting you guys down, but I got a LONG way to go before even making a dent in the tournament world of GGXX. I won't give in though, I'll follow up on the events and try to stay up to date. So I wish you guys luck, I'm still rootin' and supporting the cause all the way.

Yo, Charles and Colin:
Hope you guys did great at Athens. Let me know how things
turned out and who was the mostly played GGXX character
being played while there. I've recently stumbled onto some
incredible Reloaded vids with Bridget, and I'm going to test
if some of its possible on GGXX, but it looks like I might try
and find myself a copy of #Reload and try them out there.

Great job Charles, and you too Colin.
I'm glad to see people still posting up their experiences, it helps a lot. Thanks for the constant updates Yusuf, if you keep this up you'll have no choice but to make it to one of the ATL meetings one day.
I guess for my most recent experiences, I've been playing less due to working pretty long hours, but I recently discovered an arcade like 20 feet from my workplace with pretty good players. So it's a pleasant surprise to go there after work. Most recently I got thrown around by a really good Millia and Zappa. Moreso by the Millia. Uh guys, I think we need to get some hardcore Millia experience somehow. That mixup is impossible to defend until you have tons of familiarity. We'll be dead if one of those ever shows in a tourney unless we can get experience. Sadly, Peter and Chetan's Millias didn't really prepare me for this. Good solid mixups, perfect execution on combos (including getting some from unexpect places, as well as every random counter hit). But again, exceptional defense made it stand out. Saw all my mixups, throws, and IB-ed everything. Scary.
As a general lesson guys, I've learned so far that what separates the good from the best is defense, not offense. Everyone has good offense. By far the only common thing I've noticed in all the top players is great defense. That's a direct tip from Asia for you guys. Start working on your defense now. In other words, be able to block all mixups. Be able to see throws, and respond by jumping, dashing, counter throwing, or poking your way out of them. Know not only when to FD, but specific points where you can IB to get out of pressure. Likewise, know how to use your IB, don't just do it, apply it. Learn to IB by reflex (mostly a matter of experience) and then use it to break out early. Again, either by movement, or counter pokes. Part of defense is to be aware of the environment too, seems obvious but too many people overlook it, whereas the best don't. Know your moves, your enemies' moves, and just be aware of the distances is all I mean. Avoid getting into trouble if you can predict it. You know how Charles is always telling us to keep an eye on Eddie drills distances. That sort of thing I feel should also fall under defensive strategy. Also, by being 'aware' you can avoid the trap of becoming too defensive and turtling by focusing on defense. With awareness you are also always aware of attack openings, so you shouldn't end up turtling too much. If you end up getting thrown for having 'good' defense then it's not really good. I'm talking about a picture picture, where seeing that is part of defense too. Sound like too much? Too idealistic? Too obvious? I dunno what to say guys, the top players here can do it, I'm trying to figure it out myself.
So in summary, so far I've learning that what separates the great from the good is defense. It's all in the defense, offense is secondary. Defense can be separated into two parts:
1. Blocking (and it's variations)
2. Defensive strategy
Get a head start on everyone else by working on it now.
I'm also starting to think that the whole argument about 'gaining experience' is really just another matter of saying get better defense. Think about it, greater familiarity against a matchup is really about just learning how to block their game, see their throws, and not getting into trouble strategically. (Offensively it's also about learning what specific moves counter what and when to modify combos). But it's mostly defense. I wonder if we can bypass a large percentage (note, not all) of the experience requirement, and overcome our shortcomings in that department by figuring out a formula for universally good defense? Let me know what you think.
Basically, there's a whole 'nother world of playing out there that we need to get familiar with. And just when I thought I was making progress. But I also think that's one of the good things about GGXX, the learning never really stops, and it's been a while since I felt that sort of revelation.
Keep kicking ass guys, I expect y'all to be unbeatable (by me at least) when I get back. Lastly, I hope I didn't sound preachy, this is in no way means to be a diss or to pull down our own playing, just an observation of something they do here, that we don't focus on enough there.

Thanks Mike, I'll make it out there someday and if Athens has another monthly, I'll come( if you guys don't mind me tagging along with you all that is >.>; )
Anyway, I've recently picked up Bridget, and I'm doing ok( I think ). After watching some Japanese players like Mio and Yukinose I've picked up a lot of characters I wouldn't imagine
playing. I'm practicing with Eddie, but Charles would easily
own me with his, but I'm getting there with some rush-down
combos on both characters. But that's it for me here, I'll keep
watching the announcements for another Athens Monthly,
and watching video after video to see what I can pull off.
Later guys

I think your right. When i play this game all i think about is the offense and not really about my defense. You gave me a good reminder of how the game is supposed to be played. But it basically comes down to what works best for you. I started using the Faultless Defense since ive havent used it but like 5 times. Especially when i play my friends, totally absent minded. Thanks for the reminder and good luck!

What Michael says is true of all games, not just guilty gear. The secret to being a good player is to have an impenetrable defense without turtling. Its a paradox but still that is how it works, you have to have an unbreakable defense while attacking. All games are like this. If you are pure defense then you will get mixed up. If you are top player defense you know exactly where to ATTACK to prevent getting mixed up and that is the heart of defense, if you are hitting the other person they cannot trick you. A top player in any game knows the frames that he has on any given move that his opponent does where they are incapable of doing anything to stop him at certain angles and they always attack at these angles so as to make themselves totally safe while attacking.
You must AGGRESSIVELY TURTLE this is the path to greatness in fighters.

Haha, Colin is too smart a player, if I didn't say so already, he summarized in one paragraph what took me six to say. This is a great example of the old school of knowledge that we can really benefit from by learning from Colin.
What's going on this week? Are you guys playing? By my calculations it's around midnight on Friday right now, I hope you guys are getting some good games in.
Give some updates on how your games are developing Charles and Colin, I miss playing with you guys now, so I'm curious what's going on with your Eddie and Venom. Or your Dizzy Charles.
As for me I'm just playing as much as I can to accumulate matchup experience, and in general work on the two weakness in my game, that is to improve my defense and 'smartness'. Not just mindgames in otherwords, but smarter move placement/choices and distancing etc.

I'm getting some help(video feed) from Yukinose and Mio. Although its #R, I still can work around with some of those complicated Bridget combos. The same applies for Anji, Eddie,
and that's about it. With Athens having monthly tournaments
and there being one in July, I will prep my Bridget and Eddie
for the tournament. What's my determination? I want to be
better than Yukinose and Daigo, so long as that's my will,
I'll keep playing whether others play or don't. Only update
here is that I figured out how the guy playing Bridget at FR7
was pulling some of his magnificent combos.
hey we have a ggxx hookup every weekend here in knoxville on fri. and sat. nights...if ur ever in the mood to travel...we can house 2-3, i would come down there but money will be tight until after evo.

Yo Charles, sorry to hear things are down, you know I'd be up for some games, wish I was back there. On the plus side good to hear that you, Yusuf and Raul are able to reach out and make new connections.
Just a small update from me, still getting kicked around by really good Potemkin's and the best Testament ever. Did I mention it never gets old having your ass kicked really hard over and over? It's absolutely true what they say, when you find someone that can beat you that badly, you better play your heart out and milk the experience for all that it's worth. You owe it to yourself to do so.
Respects to go out to HK's best players for not pulling any punches when playing me, so that I can honestly try and get better. Same goes to you guys because you know we don't take it easy on each other...

Who knows. Anyway, glad to hear how you're doing out there Micheal. I'm still reviewing over Mio and Yukinose Bridget Vids, and Eddie vids. However, it's funny how I was looking at strategies for combos on boards and gamefaqs and none of that stuff made sense to me. I guess I have to see it to learn, not read it. Anyway, I should be there to play Charles and do 'alright'. I'm not sure if my Bridget tactics are solid, but they are fierce and once I get an open spot in I can go for some critical hits. I will stand more of a chance at FR8 and even when I go to EVO2k5( yes I am going to go ), but we'll see in time. Later

Hmm the Japanese Bridget players that really stick out off the top of my head are Yukinose, Die-chan, Luu (Ruu) and Mio. Keep checking around for those names, and of course others. As far as Eddies go, man there are so many really just watch any. My personal favorites are Hokushin and Ogawa. And dammit, since we actually have a good Eddie in the area, you really should learn from Charles, he's always eager to play. You wanna talk about learning from watching and experience, instead of reading it, here's your chance.
Isuka is the same as it's always been, kinda there in the background. I've been spending some more time with it, getting closer and closer to being able to solo the survival mode. Oh, and if I didn't say it before Leopaldon really is too easy.
What good timing...
As luck would have it, Yukinose's webpage currently has a match vid of hokushin(eddie) vs. yukinose(bridget) that I suggest you guys check out. It's 05.wmv
I will say this once, please be considerate of any Japanese webpage hosting videos, never direct link to any videos, bandwidth is expensive, and they don't get any hits. It increases the likelihood they will not host videos in the future.
ttp://www.globetown.net/~yukinose/muvi.htm
Please add the h manually.
Charles, Hokushin shows off a funny throw setup in this one, as well as a simple wheel crossup I think you should steal...also note his dust combo, fair damage, but more importantly scores a knockdown.

Well, you know how it is, work takes up a lot of your time, so I'm pretty busy, just squeezing in games at the arcade whenever I can, during lunch break and after work...you work hard at your job during the day, and then you go to the arcade to work on your GGXX :D
You know, I really am trying to learn at the very least Testament, so that I can contribute something newer to our play sessions, but the aforementioned lack of time has meant that I've been mostly practicing Ky. I promise I'll make something decent of it before I come back though...
I knew I could believe in you guys, things have been slow, but undeniably we are getting more people into this, keep up the good work guys, none of this would be possible unless you guys put in the effort that you do.

yo I am curious how many ppl from ATL would go to a GGXX tourney in ATL (southern showdown) this coming Saturday.
Reason I ask is cause they did have GGXX on the roster but it got cancelled due to "lack of interest" so I am fairly sure we can get like 4 ppl from TN...but only if we know u guys will show.
Lemme know. THX!

Lester, that's Melty Blood. It's a PC fighting game based off a H-game. You can probably download from somewhere if you look hard enough. Or I could bring you a copy when I come up there. Be warned though it's already broken.

OK everything is now finalized for Showdown. Doors open at 12 and tournies start at 1pm.
The owner of the club, Eric, is generously grilling out for us. So there will be food and he also encourages the 21+ crowd to drink cuz he will be discounting some of the beer.
There are also 3 pool tables to take up your time between matches.
GGXX has been cancelled by WayGamble due to a lack of interest. It, or another tourny can still be held if you show at least 16 people will be there for it.
If your in Atlanta and need a ride, the bus does go there ask and I'll tell. If your outside of bus routes or have special circumstances call me and I'll see if I can assist in making arangements for you.
Any out of towners needing accomodations I am unable to help. Since RTD has left his palace we've been lacking a spot play and crash at for the past 2-3 months so since no one else has one and I wont til August you'll have to make your own arrangements. There are a few hotels around that are like $40 a night if you want to know the info holla at me.
Thats it for now

Wow, this is nice to see. Good job volunteering your place as always Charles. Everyone of you who are interested should try your hardest to show up. Charles is a great host and has a great gaming setup.
You're playing Millia as a main now? Trust me my friend, that has me scared, if you've seen a good Millia play, or ever faced one, that can strike fear in your heart no matter how much practice you get against it, no lie.
I got to play not one, but two great Mays in the arcade the other day. It's still a real privilege to me to get to experience it, even though I go to the arcade a lot now, I know how lucky I am. The best part though, was not holding my own against them, but getting to see them duke it out. Two great Mays, but two different styles as well. They were almost perfectly even, lots of fun to watch.
I also got totally slaughtered by the best Baiken I've ever played today. Remember what I said about impenetrable defense? Add that to Baiken's counters and perfect combo execution and you have something that's really difficult to beat. It was interesting, you might not notice it until you played it, but it seemed like he could block every run in, no matter how random. It seemed like he was just pressing random 2P, 2S, or her HCF HS. Now of course, it was much more complex than that, but his insight was just amazing. Kindof a surreal experience, I just wanted to share that.
I hope you guys have good games. Now seriously, Charles has been really considerate in notifying everyone really early this time around. There should be little excuse to not plan for this now.

Um, I might throw Bridget back to 2nd Tier for me if I can't work in those air combos, and Chipp will be there as well, and if Victor can't make the rounds I have Slayer too. Anyway, I'll talk to Jason Charles( if we don't decide on FNM ) more than likely we might be crashin' at yours again, hope your mom doesn't mind. :D

Man....a word of advice...dont go anywhere before you mapquest the ENTIRE trip. Me and my friend found that out the hard way as we were initially going to leave around 10 we ended up watching a movie and playing ggxx for another few hours...and we left charles house at around 3 am we ended up lost for several hours stumbling our way around areas of georgia we didnt think existed and talking to some lady who was about to point us to downtown atlanta when we asked for Gwinnett County. We finally stopped at a gas station where thank heavens one of the intelligent humans in the surrounding area pointed where we needed to go...and we drove some more and ended up being 15 hours late and getting home at 6 AM in the morning. WORST DAY or NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!!! other than that charles was a great host and we had fun playing ggxx and watching movies. Congratulations charles and thank you for letting me and my friend spend some time at your place. So now im gonna get some sleep that i lost this morning...have a good one laters...

Anyone else have impressions from last Friday's gaming that they want to share?
Let's try to keep this discussion going, and talk about the gameplay some more. I know especially for you guys just starting, talking about the matchups specifics will help a lot.
For starters, any Eddie tactics you guys want to discuss? Problems fighting Charles?

07-19-2004, 09:34 AM
Yeah dude...speaking of which...what would be your idea of a counter for eddies unblockables. I can always see them coming now his mixups are great its just countering the attack and getting out of it is a problem now. i just need something to get out of the attacks. i saw your matches with charles eddie and i realized im not the only getting caught by that shit and that made me kinda feel better. but yeah just countering the setups will be a big help...backdash...instant block...anything at all to help. basically any tactics you know to stop eddie and ill be thankful.

Sorry for the late post.. It was a great friday everyone did well.. and had fun.. milla vs chipp seems to be chipps best matchup.. sweep stops any ground attack and most peeps don't fight milla anymore they just wait for jump ins.. I been helping yusuf and jason learn anji and testment thats been helping me alot showing me how to play them right also.. I may switch mains to.. eddie testment anji milla. I seem to know alot of stuff with them and they all got nice air combos.
Hey mike I found 2 new loops with eddie and my eddie rush is alot cleaner no breaks in the combo.. we been working on air throws and ground throws jason has some nice ID skills..
can't wait for you to get back bro.. everyone seems to get disenchanted if I get a good match I tell them that some times matches just go wrong if you make one or two big mistakes... but they think its them in general.. any advice on what to do if this happens... yusuf is hardcore we pulled a all nighter twice playing nothing but ggxx.. oh well just some of my rambling about fridays hope to see everyone next week:cool:
I should have melty blood ready for you by then raul..

Yup. It's not only the one or two mistakes, its the repetition of those one or two mistakes that gets to our nerves. We see ourselves improving when there's at least a win under our belt during the night. Anywho, Baiken went up .10 levels since I've been there. Don't have her basic combos down, won't know them until I get my game back. Not to mention I might not make this meeting because I need to get my driving lessons in before I try for my test by the end of the month. we'll see. other then that, I learned a few new things, 1) gotta relax 2) need to stop air dashing from across the screen 3) keep practicing.
that's all for now. later
TotenKreuz480
07-19-2004, 07:16 PM
Hehe...I started to practice with Baiken for the first time in months today and things went a HELL OF ALOT SMOOTHER. Baiken is still my best character...i think i figured out a unblockable for her today and i was working on it for almost 4 hours. then i went and started practice in soul calibur 2. other than that yeah chipp was getting on my nerves around 2 am in the morning last friday but all in all it was good. dizzy still needs some more work. i wanna make her just like eddie with all the shit flying about confusing opponents that would be great but her game is a tad bit different. i think you guys will be able to sort my nicks with her though. 3 more weeks till i have to go back to school so i have to get in as much time with my games sad to say. i unno guys hearing all that talk about baiken got me inspired and i had fun. lots of fun to be had. anyways guys later mike have fun in hk.
(thanks for having melty blood ready for me charles i owe you one) bye bye

07-20-2004, 05:47 AM
Hey you know I'm going want in on that Melty Blood too...
Charles is right guys, don't get down on yourself just because you lost one match in a big way. It really does happen to everybody once and a while, even the best over here.
At a certain level, everyone is more or less perfect on the execution, so one or two mistakes is all they need, it only makes sense. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I've perfected some of the best players over here just because they slipped up once or twice. Once early in the match, and the second time is usually just carelessness because they lost their wits. Does this make me better than them? Hell no, because by the time they insert their next coin, they're back in focus and prove that they can destroy me, over and over. Point is, you can look worse, and fool yourself into thinking that you're worse than you really are because you made one or two mistakes, it's not a big deal really. Rather you should focus your energy on thinking about what to do right instead of beating yourself up over it.
While we're on that subject, I usually find that when I'm making the same mistake over and over again knowingly, it's because I don't know what to do instead, and not because I can't see myself making the mistake. Basically the idea is to focus on what to do right, instead of just what you're doing wrong. So for every mistake that gets pointed out, don't just think, "Damn, I'm making a really stupid mistake" think about what you can do instead. It's a different mindset that's really the key improving. When you think about what to actually do differently, you'll find it's easier to actually do it, and break your patterns.
So for example, Eddie has a lot of anti-airs, so I'm guessing everytime you dash in from across the screen, you're eating something like a 6P, 2HS, 6HS or shadow gallery. Okay, so what you're doing wrong is dashing in from too far away. Don't stop the thought process there though. Start thinking about what to do. Expecting an anti-air? Try dashing in, and just FD block. You may or may not be able to punish afterwards, but the end result is that you're in closer, and may be in a better position, depends. If you have any air projectiles (I guess Ky has it easy in this department) you can try throwing one out to punish the anti-air attempt. Another tip is to use recovery times like a pin point. Usually if your opponent whiffs something, they'll be expecting you to punish. If you have a clean guaranteed hit, there's no question you should take it, but if you have just enough time to make them block you have an opportunity. What will happen is that they will realize they've made a mistake, but that they have enough time to block....so they get into the habit of blocking. What you effectively have is a pin point. So for example, dash in, FD air block a 6HS, land, now they're expecting your rush down, run in, FD brake, throw. Works sometimes, better if you layer in mindgames obviously. Think about stuff like this.
Yeah, it's kind of a downer when people get disenchanted huh Charles? For me, I usually find that the best way to remotivate people when this happens is to encourage them to just play. Seriously, the more time you give them to think about it, the more down they will get. Always give encouraging advice and don't let them worry about it. Best way to do that is to get them back into the game. Changing characters, matchups, for both players is a good thing in this case, because they'll be forced to change tactics a little, and it will make it more fun for them, less likely to make the same exact mistake. Lastly, I find that again, sometimes you just have bad runs, and you just have to take a break. If they get disenchanted repeatedly, playing it that state will guarantee that they will lose again. When this happens to me, I take a 30 minute break, and usually when I come back I'm doing better. It's a subconscious thing, you can take advice right away, but sometimes your brain takes some time to register it. The morale of the story is that rest is good occasionally.
Charles can't do all the work remotivating y'all when you lose though. Ultimately it's our responsibility. Remember, you play and play just for the chance fight someone that can beat you hard. If you find that, you should be hungering for the chance to play that person again. That's the only way to get good. Don't focus on the loss, or even over analyze it. Just play, knowing that the next time you fight him you're already getting steadily better. No one can beat you forever, unless you just give up practicing with them.

You touched up on some good points in that looong reply there. I think some of my friends need to read up on that whole thing. Thats how i felt when i play charles's eddie the first time. i kept thinking i was playing the computer and instead of thinking of what to do the next time i just kept thinking it was a mistake to do this and that. so like i said you have a good point and i learned alot over there so maybe if things go our way charles can possibly come over to my house and play some games or whichever works out you know. i only played eddie twice last friday so basically all i do so far is....stuff i dont want charles to know yet haha but im sure he is on to my eddie destruction game so...:D you know.im sure with the right mindset anyone can win...all the time if they wanted but skill also comes into play so if you want to win and you know you have the skill to win im sure anyone and everyone would do just fine. all about how you think. positive thinking. but yeah dude when you get back its gonna be melty blood time i already found 3 characters at charles house and that game is a hell of a lot of fun. i wont compare it to guilty because its differences are so slight such as no instant kills but the combo system is almost exactly like guilty so im sure you will have no problem with the game. anyways its always good to hear from you guys and what you think. laters

I was teaching you guys Pinpoints but I forgot to tell you about wakeup timing..
It seems you have 1 active frame during wakeup that frame can be used to throw, backdash,dp,super, jump now remember its only 1 frame out of 30 a sec, so timing is very strick....
Now from what I understand if there is a leg or arm or random move in that 1 wakeup frame. You can only do things with frames of invinciablity IE: DRAGONPUNCH, BACKDASH, GUARDPOINT AND some SUPERS..JUMPING and THROWING Will not work doing your active frame if there leg or arm or random move is on your body at that time so your only option is to block.. thats were we covered pinpoints..
So if your running in to do a Pin point and your fighting anyone that can use there active frame to there advantage... then you may have to change your Pin Points.. I noticed you guys kept falling for wakeup supers...
becuase I didn't explain this too you.. If you notice they have meter and your going in for Pin Point you can choose to FD BRAKE your attack. let them use there frame then try to punish there WIFFED
DRAGONPUNCH,BACKDASH,GUARDPOINT or SUPER or Make them have to TIME THAT ACTIVE FRAME and finish your PIN POINT.. Now if you notice your gonna be up before they got too you... and there will be no limbs are moves on you as you get up...
and they are still trying to do there Pin Point or rush you down.
Then you have a few more frames to use instead of 1 THROW,IAD,BACKDASH,SUPER,ANTIRUN,ANTAIR or just ATTACK try not to block unless you know all 6 of those will not work.. because if you block then they get other chance to put a high/low mix up on you or Throw... That what you don't want!!!
Keep in mind that all of this wakeup game has to be timed good within 1 to 3 frames it, also depends on how good there Pin Point is and what it does and there timing also... I hope this helps you guys out im gonna try to keep posting this kind of stuff...

Yeah dude and watching matches with an experienced player who uses your character helps. ive worked on new combos for baiken and dizzy all week. i finally mastered dizzys ice spike frc and i think i have an unblockable for baiken i think but anyway if you ever wanna practice with someone or something just hit me up ill be willing to play. and i finally beat that god damn mission 29. i threw my controller down and yelled as loud as i could...then i tried mission 34 and quit so there you have it. like i said check out some match videos for your character and see how the other people play with him so you can get a feel of how to play him. thats what i read on gamecombos anyway and i found some great matches for dizzy...but it was all reloaded so yeah you know..byeness

:: Hasn't played GGXX in a week :: ^^; Oh well, that's cool. And yeah Jason, no need to say you can't figure out the frame set up, cause it'll soon become an instinct rather than anything else. Like Anji's Issei Ougi FRC. It's instinct when I do it, so I don't have to watch for the frame. Eh. Anyway, that's all from here. Guess Charles and I will be putting in two all nighters with Baiken and Anji? Not sure yet. Later, peeps.

ahhhhh well, while it's highly subjective, and all up to you, I personally prefer the Japanese version much more....
I will admit that the Korean version impressed me more in person than it did in video though. Still, the voice acting is not as good, even if some of Chipp's quotes have more edge, as Colin likes. And the music I think is more repetitive and lacks personality in comparison to the Japanese version imo. Though there are a few standouts like Pillars of the Underworld. Me personally I think the Japanese's version sound is far superior from a musical and technical standpoint. Less scientifically it just sounds better to me. Anyway, music tastes are about as varied as there are types of people, so I never know what to say about the subject...
At any rate, if you want it, the soundtrack is easy to find online, although I don't have time to surf for it now, sorry. And if you didn't know, the US XBOX version of #R hitting the States later this version will have the Korean soundtrack included. Or at least it's planned anyway.
Glad to see interest in Reload finally.
Charles! PC GGXX#R is out! Hunt that sucker down so we can have high res GGXX sprites...Stand alone Japanese PC software again. Haven't seen it in any stores around here, maybe you'll have luck through your sources.

Dang that was fast, anyway could you ready a copy of PC #R for me for when I get back Charles? Yeah, I know I've already played the hell out of the PS2 and Arcade versions, but I just want one for completeness.
This is great though, now you can get Reload practice. In case you can't find any PS2-PC controller adaptors out there, let me know if you want one, it's easy enough for me to get them out here.

Oh man, you had to start this didn't you Charles? At the risk of turning this into a non GGXX thread, I just saw the House of Flying Daggers last weekend when it opened in theaters in Asia. It's good, definitely better than the director's last effort, Hero.
Um okay, back to GGXX....
I didn't check today, but the last time I checked, I found two models of PC-PS2 adapters:
USB-one controller port: about $8
USB-two controller ports: about $15
Not a bad price really, although I didn't get to test how well they worked either. Should be okay though, this sort of simple hardware is hard to mess up.
Thing is, unless I ship these to you, you'll only get these when I get back, since I have to bring them with me and all that...
Later, enjoy the #Reload, I'm really looking forward to playing you guys, and I'm hoping my PS2 Reload doesn't become obsolete...
On a side note, I finally beat GGI solo today, woohoo! The home version comes out in four days too, I'm really looking forward to the Double Dragon type mode. When I get back, we need to invite everyone over and have a big GGI party, no lie.

a few thoughts of ggxx#r for PC from what I can tell it seems to be perfect copy of the ps2 verson..
but has a few things that make it better IMO it has another config page, before you load the game wich you can make the game really high res and really make your video card do its job.. and you Don't have to have the Cd rom to play it... once its on your harddrive it there...
all the options/words are in jap but I have found 2 sites that are working on this right now.. also in theroy this game can be cracked.. im not advanced enough nor do have the resources to write the code myself but if a team picks this Idea up it won't be too hard to enable netplay.. on a side note I did do a little tweaking myself I was able to add some live tracks to the games' bgm.. been working on it all night so far the game crashes when it tries to loop the song in training mode.. it may not be able to read my gettho loop code but I don't understand this jap source code fully.. Im gonna keep working on it but so far you can rip sprites from it also.. and with some time I may be able to change those sprites like give them new colors...
Thanks for leting me know about xx#r

Japanese source code........now that might be interesting...but i cant say i have any experience in that department. still it is nice that you share all this information. hmmm looping.............im sure you'll figure it out since ive just spent the past 10 mins pondering about your problem. but eh ^_^ RELOAD finally get to play it!!!!!! OH HAPPY DAYS!!!!! i dont even know what to say im so speechless later

Charles,
Let us know what you're doing this coming week. Hopefully, we can make another stay over if that's cool with you and your mom.
Also, I've recently organized my GGXX playing field:
Mains)
Anji
Baiken/I-NO
Chipp
Secondary)
Faust
Bridget
Everyone can play Sol and Ky, so I figured not to put them under any specific list. But that's it for me. I'm gonna return to my games, later.

This game kicks ass in more ways than one gentlemen. great game. melty blood plays out just like it too so man...too over when i get that game. the comp is even smarter in reload taking advantages of frames and what not overall reload is a superior improvement of regular old GGXX. thanks again charles peace

How do you guys feel about switching standards to #Reload for our gatherings when I return in late August? I've talked to Charles about it briefly over AIM already, and I think by then it'll be the trend in the US anyway. And we can always have an XX machine on the side if need be. Just putting the idea out there to discuss.
Glad to hear you're liking #Reload Raul, I've thought it was the better version since I started playing it about a year ago. Anybody want to post your updated impressions on it? Charles, how are coping with the changes now that you've had some time to spend with it? I'll work on getting those adapters, to confirm, I know Raul wants one, and Charles, you want a second one?

I just picked up GGI during lunch break....man, I love the distribution out here, stores get games on the same day as release. I'm real pumped now, I'm really looking forward to the Burst mode (side scrolling beat'em up) and the new character, A.B.A. This is going to be good, they really packed in a lot of new content for the home version over the arcade version, which is plenty of fun as it is. I'll post impressions later on when I get home...
I can't resist getting a multi-tap now, it's on when I get back; we can have some great gatherings/parties over this.
Jio, sorry to hear what happened man, I'm sure it's nothing personal, and we'll catch you some other time. I appreciate your continued efforts to get in touch with us though, I really do, especially since we haven't been successful yet. In the meantime, good luck at Evo, and do your best to represent the Dirty!
Time to get my Isuka on...
P.S. I may not be attending Evo, but I will be participating in a #R tournament here this Sunday, so I'm hoping to have fun with that, as well as learn a lot.

GGI PS2 is really great!
They added so much stuff over the arcade version, you can tell they went into a lot of effort making it. A really nice overall buy.
Graphics:
A lot little improvements here, a lot more animation in the backgrounds, making use of the extra memory, and the color is 32 bit now (opposed to the arcades 16 bit) which makes it a little nicer. The Intro has had new cuts added to it, and new transitions.
Gameplay:
Arcade, VS play like the arcade version, perfect translation, only with the graphic bonuses listed overall. Burst mode on the other hand is really really interesting, it's fun, but you have to manual turn and jump now. I got used to the turning, so maybe getting used to jumping won't be too bad.
Robo Ky MKII:
Afterall the speculation, he IS a full customizable character, at least in terms of his specials anyway. Enough said, it's too awesome.
Gah, too much to say, and I really want to go back to playing, will edit later with more impressions.

OK.GGI is obviously making someone happy somewhere in a distant land....personally i would rather have read up on this....but yeah i did anyway i hear theres no more instant kills just all four buttons to burst and the manual turning and the putting a specific task to one button. overall it should be great. I was on Reload from 4 to about 2 in the morning yesterday and in a matter of 5 hours i completed 92 missions  ...i know i spent no time on the new 50 cuz they were stupid except for the last one...that was kinda cheap but other than that its cool to have everything in the game real early . One question tho...Wheres that new background? I have no clue where it is....or how to get it...any ideas guys? I WANT GGI BRING IT BACK AND SHOW IT OFF!! Please...? oh yeah i got my psx-to-usb convertor so im good to go in some reload. yeah im gonna get back to practice since johnny really was raped...in terms of strength in combos and such...i have to devise new strats for him since he is so....weak....makes me sick...anyway at least he is faster....btw i call blue. blue all the way in GGI!! jk anyways bye bye:)
kombatfreak
07-31-2004, 06:45 AM
Yes Johnny's blue Reload color is hot. And you can use it in GGI. You might as well make your own color edit though, although it's very time consuming.
I'm going to buy a multitap, as long as you guys can supply your own memory cards to save your unique profile, and color setups. I think we will have mad fun. It should look really nice running in progressive on Charles's TV....can't wait to share it with you guys.
It's really a lot of fun, and the new additions are great. Going to go back and play some more.

There's this broken Anji Fuujin Loop that's in #R. Anyway, it's about two weeks until the tourney in SC. So we're gonna need to kick it into gear on that following Friday, probably. I've entered for CvS2 and GGXX, and I'm liking my chances in CvS2. With my random scrubness, I should be able to take home 1st, unless I mess up somewhere. =T GGXX seems to be looking good too, I have to work with my FRC timing and once I do that, the Unblockable Anji is finished, by the by, I'm studying off some of Mike's matches with Charles and I might pull off a Ky within the next two weeks if all possible. Anywho, Charles and I have been practicing a lot, this week we've done at least two or three all nighters, I think we've discovered some real broken tactics. I'm also getting into the MvC2 spirit as well, doubt I'll take that to a whole new level, but it's good to play casual with the others when I can. Anyway that's all for me. Can't wait for the Evo results.

Mike quick question...is the mist dash in GGI? im lovin it so much in reload i just wanna know if its in GGI. well actually its more like are the changes in reload present in Isuka really. that would make things easier on me so that i wont have to float between GGXX play and Reload play. not really a big deal but just a thought. i have school in a week from posting this so ill be off and on here and there but still practicing the games.
i just cant wait till everyones here so we can all play guilty gear and melty blood too. really looking forward to the end of august. picked up 2 characters for reload and possibly XX.
I-no and Bridget play really well for me and i might put them up as my mains depending on how well they do. Bridget is like a killing machine with that damn bear and I-no is so great but this of course if varied by opinion.
but yeah im gonna go finish some RPGs before i have to back to school. later

08-02-2004, 02:10 AM
Yeah, the mist dash is in GGI, no need to worry there.
Good luck going back to school. Time will be scarce, but we'll find the time to play I'm sure.
Sorry I've been quiet lately. Life is busy.
I got eliminated first round in the HK tourney btw, good shit :D . It was fun, the people were great. They had it all, good setup, the arcade machine set on full tourney mode, commentary, player intros and interviews, and a camera to record matches. Nice to experience a slice of a real tourney. Even though I got eliminated first round (single elim. tourney) it was a pretty good representation, went to the last round. Crazy stuff, including a pure fluke survival through a gamma ray. No life, no tension, I should've died. Super jump, got hit by the first small beams, the float kept me out of the actual blast! What BS, but it kept me alive to go to the final round. I need more Dizzy practice....

With all that said and done i wonder if any of us over here would be able to keep up with those hardcore asian players. Sounds like you had yourself a good time and thats what counts.
Quick Notes: I finall obtained the Korean Soundtrack too. Great stuff all around not better than the japanese but tight as hell. Its slightly abnormal but you have to listen to it over and over to kinda accept it i suppose. Revalations and Midnight Carnival are easily the best tracks on the thing. Pillars of the Underworld suits Ky better than Holy orders imo and half the other songs are either good or not so good to horrible. Dementia is eehhh kinda bad and so is Zappas song. So like i said its a good album just cant keep up with the Japanese album in some ways.
Dizzy:
Dizzy..hmm....Gamma Ray...at least it saved you i suppose. Though the only super i use from her mostly is the Imperial Ray...the Gamma Ray is way to big a risk mid round if you get the tension eh but we know that. More like her instant kill imo. The only thing about dizzy is if you can play with her in GGXX you should have no problem in Reload. The only thing you have to relearn is of course her Ice Spike FRC really. her ground dust FRC and her 2HS FRC are pretty simple and great additions to dizzy since her ground dust in GGXX was kinda on the leave her on the ground for several seconds side. Overall i think is he rather better in Reload even tho they changed her ice spike FRC.
Eh but im no teacher so i cant exactly explain it in the technical way so all i know is that for me it works out better...and i dont really have anything interesting to share with about my dizzy except if you want we can discuss my strats i use with her and my rushdowns since im still tweaking them and making them more flexible. Same with Johnny and Baiken. I-no and Bridget are cool too. Right now im gonna go try out this idea for this setup i want for Dizzy so I'll Talk to you guys later.
Peace

Can't seem to find those, not in the tournament results forum anyway, care to post a quick summary? I'm curious.
By Dizzy experience I just meant playing more against her, that's all. The real reason I lost my match was that I didn't block her dust, about three times, that let him get the damage he needed. The gamma ray was just a crazy fluke moment that made the match more interesting. And my opponent was smart, he didn't just throw it in the middle of the match. He knew I was low on life, and had no tension, so actually it was the right move on his part. The crazy part is that I survived by actually taking the first hit, and using the float to avoid the main blast. I wouldn't have survived any other way, short of blocking the first few beams, and going for an attack or throw before the blast got out.
Again, it was lots of fun, and everyone there was good enough that short of the top 3 players, it was 50/50 across the board, so just feel good about participating.
Good to hear that you guys are making progress on your game and making contacts still. The spirit of gaming is alive and well. I think I have to give a special shout out to Jio for having the patience to try and meet up with us again, thanks a lot bro, appreciate it.
Other than that, can't wait to get back and play you guys.

Quick Note: Jam's Sticks and Stones overrides GGXX Babel Nose like wh0a.
Anyway, I just did a look at the results for Evo. Looks like Daigo owned again, but the highlight of the tournament is his 3s Match again JWong. I can't wait for someone to post up Daigo parrying the Chun-Li STII super, the WHOLE thing. Bet that shit is hot. And they say Justin is retiring after this year in Marvel since he won again, but who knows.
Aside from that, Charles, the AWA is looking for some Volunteers for the convention, you up for it? We get in free if you do it, for all four days of the convention. And on another note, they listed the information for the #Reload tournament:
Rules
Double Elimination
Random Seeding
30 seconds to pick character or random character
3 out of 5 rounds per match
2 out of 3 matches
Random Stages
No EX characters
Prizes
Cash Prize as well as other prizes.
All major tournaments are $10. So while I'm working the Video gaming section, hah hah, I will also be competiting. Anyway, that's all for now. I'll give you a beep later Charles on the details.

The results are on the official EVO page if you hadnt already checked yet. Team Japan ran through all the competition in the Reload tourny. I dont know if it was official or not but Kensou got 4th overall in the GGXX tourney and placed 3 or 2nd in the Team Reload Tourney. I guess i misread that message i thought of 2 things at the same time and i guess i got confused but yeah we all need to practicing big time. in my opinion anyway...if i ever get to play a hardcore japanese player you know...mister daigo...sounded like he wasnt playing any games at evo. parrying the whole super and shit and taking 2 1sts. Got the Melty Blood Demo to tide me over. VERY FUN. You can literally make up combos outta no where. Me and my friend marcel are gonna scout our school for more Guilty Gear players. hopefully it wasnt just me yusuf and him. But for sure we're all gonna try to go to that arcade that opened up over here sometime in the near future. All is well with me as i have everything done and can finally be on vacation for the remainder of the week. Good luck to all of you on future tournys and sucesses. If any of you are ever in the Snellville area you know just call me sometime as usual. Things should get interesting around the time Mike gets back so i look forward to all the guilty gear that will most likely go down. I may or may not show up for the reload tourny at AWA so dont count me in just yet. Back to Reload. Peace

It's been rather slow as of late. Not much going on in the gaming world, however, my Marvel game is going up. Also, for those who are unaware, it seems once Mike returns and we've things settled, we'll probably switch to #Reload. The AWA tournament is #Reload based, so if I compete, I'll probably have to transfer over to #R and get the feel of it down. For my characters, not too much has changed, but it's certainly going to help either way. Well, that's all for now. Later, peoples.

      :D ....After seeing Daigo parrying all of chun li's super ive decided to take up some Street Fighter 3. The footage sparked more interest in the game, more so than playing. Knowing i could play that game and get to that level would be fantastic. Not setting my sights too high but if i wanna accomplish it i shall and hopefully make it to the final rounds of any game i want to play (be it fighting game or a shooter). Haha that was amazing footage thanks to who ever posted it. Man...real tight..never seen anything like it before. Speechless. Um...school tomorrow so if you need me ill be home by 2:30. later people.

We couldn't make SC. Sucks, I know. So far nothingi s new, just gaming everyday with Charles and the rest. I need to buy a new controller otherwise I can't play GGXX as much as I would want. We've also been hitting up everything else, so if anyone's down for some CvS2, 3s, or whatever. Hit us up and we're pretty much down. Good luck to Collin at SC and anyone else representing ATL South.

With the way my classes are setup im afraid you guys will have to hit me up instead. for the next 9 weeks im practically a slave to Mrs. McDevitts Econ Class. Hours of Homework literally. SIGH very frustrating. Sociology is also equally frustrating with boredom along with my other 2 classes so im pretty much bored as hell at school.
You guys need to play as much Reload over at Charles's as possible. I'm just about tired of XX even though i'll still play i would just rather play Reload instead of XX nowadays.
And the more time you play the better prepared you are for when me mike or someone else who has played the game comes in.
It all depends as im totally use to the changes now. You guys will get use to it in less than 3 days or less give or take. Other than that been playing and teaching Marcel Reload and XX some more from what I know from this summer. My end is very boring so i hope you guys are having as much fun as possible. I have to go study 3 chapters for a test in ECON fill in the blank literally as the page is entirely blank for no god damn reason. Good Luck Raul. Later

You have class with that one chick, Lalaine's sister, best be hittin' it. We play #Reload alot, but we're rotating off games, to stay in shape with Max, and the rest. Mike comes back in a few weeks, so we'll be #Reload'ing it up until the crack of dawn, I'm sure.

GOOD~~~GOOD....lots of luck to all of you guys. Now i must wait till the end of this month to ponder about buying Street Fighter Anniversary or Phantom Brave. Interesting..although i have no idea who Lalaine is sooo outta luck there. I recently played Cvs2 but other than that im only into that alpha, 3s and Sc2. Every other game will have to hold off till i get a chance to play some peeps so i have my rpgs to hold me over till then. Other than that thats it for me. Peace

Good~~GOOD~ any thoughts on A.B.A. by the way or if mike reads this is...how does she play...like a balanced character or just a power character?...I'm hoping she has good mix of everything in there but you never know...peace.

Hey guys, next Friday the 27th is also going to be my first day back in ATL's GGXX scene.
I haven't played you guys in a long time, so I'm really hoping a lot of you will be able to make it. Colin, if you're not too busy with the baby I'd really like to play you again too. I'm also looking forward to playing some of you guys for the first time. I've heard only promising things about Raul, Yusuf and Jason from Charles, so I'm excited about meeting you guys, I'll sure we'll have a great time.
Thanks again for being a great host Charles, I hope this is enough advance notice for those that are interested to make it. We'll have GGI and #R up in full force and we'll definitely have snacks and refreshments. We'll also have side games going for those that want a break.

It's kinda hard for me to pass judgement on ABA yet since there are no videos, and I don't know anyone that's tried to play her seriously yet but from what I can see:
The Short Version
Definitely not a beginner's character. She's pretty technical, so if you're going to learn her, be prepared to commit. Requires careful planning and a lot of forethought.
The Long Version
Basically the main reason that ABA requires special attention is because of her three modes. It basically means you will have to manage your playing carefully. If you want you can sort of think of it like Zappa's ghosts, only not random, and much riskier. Her basic default mode is pretty underpowered. Not much damage, not to mention slow. The next two forms are pretty similar, only they ramp up her speed and damage. The kicker that when in those modes, every hit that she connects, blocked or not, will result in her losing health. To make up for this, she does have really good mixup, not just high and low, but you can mess with the timing of her moves quite a lot. To play her well, you need to be able to think about your offense as your doing it, and not be the type of player that plays in patterns. Your life depends on it basically. With ABA you have to make sure every hit counts, and that's why you need to think ahead.
Pros:
- good mixup
- great damage and speed in other modes
Cons:
- sacrifices life
- basic form not too great

The 27th of August? Hm...I'll probably be free that day I hope. I'm going to apply for a new job, but that won't stop the flow of my GGXX skills. Besides I want to give Isuka a decent try, in case I never get a copy of my own. Anyway, that's all I have to say. I'm out.

You -really- want us to come over when a girl drops by? You suuuuuure? Well, Victor will probably drop us off at Charle's house, we'll game it up with Mike for the next two or three days, and be on our merry way to prep for Dragon Con.

That reminds me, I need to give Charles a call and see what we're doing this Friday. If you show up, Lester, then that's cool. Perhaps you can give me some Anji pointers. Anyway, I'm out. Gonna go work on Ky for a while then it's back to sleep. Charles, if you get this message, gimme a call. (770)972-6054
