Ha, you're viet right buk? I know you can finish monster bowls of pho like that in your sleep. You've had plenty of training in America with monster pho bowls.

Edit: Man, I mispelled that bowls to bowels twice. What was I thinking about...

Buktooth: How far back is America compared to Japan in CvS2?? If Japan is at level 10, what level would America be at currently??

Amikai based translations are a lot better.

Make a google search for "@nifty" and go to the second hit. That's their translation service.

Perhaps this was intentionally written this way, but it looks like you were making a CvS2 reference. Team Ratio 3 veggies/Ratio 1 slurp ramen owns Buk!

Also, it looks like you might want to study a course on Japanese math before your next visit to Japan. 25 pieces of pork, having to play the same guy 3 times in one tournament.....how could this possibly make sense?

I have a pretty big backlog of questions going on. Get to em later. OR WILL I???

The Sendai Trip, Part 3:

After the whole ramen ordeal was over, we went back to Ace to pick up Otaku and Kawara so we could leave to Sendai. Passed the EXCITING ROOM again, didn't see much going on there but there was an old dude in front trying to get us to go in. Hoes would have to wait for another time.

We get back to Ace and apparently Otaku hadn't lost the whole time we were eating with his funky K-Nak team. I jump in there and Morrigan his streak to death because I keep it real like that. Kawara jumps in and kills my streak with some C-Groove team, and by then it's time for us to leave.

We go to a nearby convenience store to grab some drinks and snacks for the drive, and this is where we're introduced to Karawa. I've already written about him so I'll skip over that. We all hop into a van, and our six man Sendai expedition crew consists of myself, Kim, Bas, Otaku, Kawara, and our driver Touru. Touru is another Ace player that qualified for last year's SBO. He's not exactly top player level...but he knows it though so it's all good. He uses K-Sagat/Cammy/Bison2 (Team Cole heh) and is a pretty introverted person overall. I felt bad for him on numerous occasions over the trip.

We stop at a gas station to fill up before our trip, and gas in Japan is hideously expensive. I think it was 90 cents to a dollar for a LITER. How many liters are in a gallon? 3.6 or something? Oh well, you get the point. That shit costs some change. Japan gas stations are kinda like East Coast gas stations (well, the ones I've been to anyway) in that there's mandatory full service. Three people came up and filled up the tank and washed the windows and stuff, and the one who did all the talking was this INCREDIBLY HOT chick. She's wiping our windows down and me and Kim are staring all dreamy-eyed, then eventually she gets to the very back windows where Kim and I were sitting. We start acting really classy by waving at her and yelling stuff like HI and I LOVE YOU. Apparently the windows were tinted so dark that she couldn't see us... either that or we looked so scary waving to her like fiends that she chose not to make eye contact with us. I'm going to assume it was the former.

So we drive... and drive... and drive some more. Freeways in Japan have regular toll booths every few 150 kilometers or so, and that shit gets expensive. We went through like 3 toll booths to get to Sendai (I think, I might have slept through some too), and each one costed about 9 bucks.

We finally get to Sendai around 5am, and the first thing we do is make a stop at a lake (I think) and admire the scenery. Tokyo denizens have a much greater appreciation of nature, particularly bodies of water, because they never see it; they generally see nothing but tall buildings and subways all the time. This is why when Japanese people visit California for Evolution or whatever, the biggest request every single time is to go to the beach. ...then strip clubs. Beach first every time though. Anyway back in Sendai, everybody is really moved by the scenery. Me? Well it was certainly pretty, but I had enough of it after five minutes or so. Touru was worn out from driving all night and was napping in the car. Bas Otaku and Kawara admire the view for about an hour, then everybody piles back into the van. Touru starts driving again and I take take a little nap.

When I come to, we've arrived at one of those traditional Japanese bath houses, called onsen. I've never actually been in one of these, but I've seen plenty of them in manga and anime. If I understand correctly, you chill in some big hot bath with a towel on your head and just post up. Supposed to be real relaxing. If the mangas were true, you also had a 100% chance of accidentally wandering into the women's bath and getting buckets thrown at you... I was willing to brave the risk. I'm good at dodging thrown objects. Dodgeball champion!

...more later.

I took a trip up to Tokyo a few months ago, outside of the $500 plane ticket, I brought with me $400 for a hotel(because I didn't really plan too far ahead) and the rest of my $850+ paycheck(down to somewhere around $325 after getting to and settling in the hotel, paying for my pass into AXTokyo and getting food) went into random manga, Manboo Internet Cafe and Sega Gigo.

All in all, plan to at LEAST spend a G easy outside of travel costs if you're staying longer than a week(I was there for 6 days).

[b]Intro to Japanese CvS2 players 101a:

Densetsu No Otaku:

Also just "Otaku" and now "OTK" for short (since Japanese players love 3 letter names for whatever reason), Otaku is considered to be the best K-Groove player in the Tokyo area (even though Ino lives in Tokyo now, he's still considered an Osaka player apparently).

The epitome of the Japanese pretty boy, Otaku has looks and dresses the part. He's the kinda guy that can wear sunglasses indoors at nighttime and somehow make it work. The problem is, he doesn't like girls. Well, not real ones anyway. He's into females of the anime type. Otaku indeed. When I first started chatting with him on MSN messenger, he gave me a link to some pic and wrote "MY WIFE". So I check the link expecting to see some hot Japanese chick and instead I'm greeted by some totally generic looking anime girl. Turns out she's from some dating sim game that he really likes, and even named his email addy after it.

As if that weren't distinguishing enough, he also makes video games for a living. More specifically, porn games. Even MORE specifically, anime porn games. He's kinda embarrassed to admit it though (he calls them "pure love stories"), and it also results in him getting made fun of. A lot. In fact, the first day we got here we all went drinking with him and a bunch of other CvS2 players, and they all ragged on him pretty much for the whole night about random things: his chosen profession, how he gets faded off of one drink, his crazy poses when doing a super (more on that later)... they were even calling him "garbage" for chrissakes. I felt pretty bad for him, but he seemed to be used it and was even having a good time despite all of it. Our team name for the 5 on 5 was originally going to be "Team Otaku Makes Random Lolicon Style (lolicon = lolita = underage chicks) Porno Games" but I guess somebody decided that would be too mean so we just went with Team BIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH.

Despite all that (or perhaps BECAUSE of all that), Otaku is the coolest guy on the planet. TOTALLY nice, really polite and easygoing. He even picked us up from the airport and accompanied us to Shinjuku even though we didn't even really need it.

Put this guy in front of a CvS2 cabinet however, and everything changes. Otaku just becomes a certified beast when he plays. With his team of K-Kyo/Rock/Hibiki, he just runs through people like nothing for the most part. He has EASILY the best Just Defend ability I have ever seen. His Kyo is top 2 in the world along with Makoto's, his Hibiki is dope as well, but it's his Rock that really steals the show. Easily his best character IMO, he makes Rock look like he's straight up overpowered. Because of Otaku, K-Rock is ranked very highly in Japan, and there are a surprising number of K-Rock players to be found here. Specifics on Rock usage later. Oh yeah, he's got an incredibly mean K-Nakoruru also.

Status on coming to Evolution: Maybe (that means "no" in Japanese)

Heh this guy is full of confidence... I remember seeing him getting beasted in the SBO against Daigo. He looked like a scrub..., but Daigo makes anybody look bad. Probably would perfect me :( Daigo kicked him right into a sonic boom. Too good

Dude, you should know that if you say OCV around here, tons of scrubs will start saying "whatever character Mago used first is the best character in the game because he won the finals of the SBO team tournament with only that character." There's a whole lot of difference between a person's TEAM winning 3 in a row and the first CHARACTER on that person's team winning 3 in a row. There's a reason there's a C in OCV... and it doesn't mean TEAM.

Its kind of obvious that he meant one person victory. Meaning that Mago took the whole team without needing any other members.

Oh yeah and if I bumped this up... it's because this is a classic topic that newer members should read.
