actually dan's father is Go Hibiki.
after he took out sagat's eye, Sagat killed him.

and I think thats why dan isnt complete and his fireball doesnt go anywhere.

For those too lazy to look up the story behind Dan in the Street Fighter Plot:

Dan is a combination of Ryo's gi and Robert's head from Art of Fighting. Go Hibiki, Dan's father, is a mockery of Mr. Karate(which explains the "tengu mask" face...which is his actual face!).

Go Hibiki was killed in a fight against Sagat for taking out one of his eyes.

Dan wanted to avenge his father's death against Sagat. He tried practicing Ansatsuken to get stronger, but Gouken expelled him because of, you know, revenge issues. In Alpha 2, Dan and Sagat fought, Sagat took a dive and let Dan win. In Alpha 3, he's pretty much trying to teach Saikyo-ryu to more students(Sakura and Blanka..there's a possibility that iincyo[Project Justice] practices Saikyo-ryu, and Ran[Project Justice] is related to Dan).

Yes. Dan was made in 1995 to make fun of SNK for making Ryo & Robert basically clones of Ryu & Ken. I think taunting originated in SNK fighting games, which would explain why Dan has taunts as special moves. He's actually a pretty good character though, especially with the fact that he has the "Magic Kneedrop" (qcb+lk) good shit to do while jumping, the ground version isn't bad either.

I couldn't of worded it better myself. Dan is THE SHIT. I use him all the fucking time. Dead serious...Dan is almost ALWAYS on my team. Especially in C-Groove or N-Groove, he has much fatal potential against opponents. S-Groove Dan is hella potential too.

Dan is all about NOT taunting...

He's all about concentration... but that counts for every character anyway, but I think especially for Dan because people always want to taunt when using him, which doesn't make any sense to me at all. People play him AS a fun character, maybe that's the reason. I don't know.

I haven't used him in CvS2 yet and I don't think I'll use him in the next time there but I'm quite used to him in SFA3 and he's anything but a joke character... but you'll only recognize his abilities if you really WANT to learn him.

I've learned from SFA3 Dan that he's very different from Ken and Ryu. They've got they're similiarities, that's for sure, but Dan is an own character just like Akuma is an own character.

Dan might have his disadvantages but his potential can be AT LEAST as great as the others'.
