kazama- i don't really play ggxx. i played the game when it first came out. the only character i play is bridget. i would say i'm descent/average. i'm not good or anything. i never took the time to really learn any advanced shit.

It has come to my attention that I'm spited by certain people looking to "dethrone" me, or by people who don't like the way I play because it's too overpowering. Well I won't treat you any differently - this is how 99% of gamer communities work, so whatever. I'll move right along.

Steve - Yeah, I know we haven't hung out once since ages ago. I've seen all of Berserk a long time ago, I've seen most of Naruto but certain things have kept me from getting to see the last 15 or 20 eps, so those will wait. I don't plan on reading ahead for the manga, I'd rather just wait for it to be animated. As far as Millia "dying" goes, I think Glenn's just saying that he hates her. Well I can't blame him, she's the cheapest. You got a lot better since last time, so keep it up.

Scott - It's not that I was having a bad day, it's that I was fucking up more than usual because I wasn't actually in the mindset TO play, but it was still a blast - not making excuses. You've gotten better as well, so good job.

Miles - I'm talkin' to you on AIM right now, foo'.

Glenn - Aight, I'll talk to you later then.

Rex - Where've you been? We should get together sometime this week.

Allen - Naruto's extremely good, the reasons you listed for liking it are pretty much identical to mine. I've followed anime for a long time and have seen most of the "best" series out there, but Naruto easily conquers them. Good luck with what you're doing.

Funny thing happened today as I was playing Ky against Miles' Faust. Miles threw one of those big bombs and then rushed in. I threw him, and somehow the bomb juggled him in the air while leaving me untouched. Then I air-comboed him. It was he-haw-hilarious! Why am I telling you this? I dunno, I think you'd appreciate it.

sup tim. well, i've got a couple things to say about your post even though i don't know the story between you guys completely.

i do know that you tear a lot in games. i think that you have some sort of honor system in games. kinda like..."when i'm down, you should let me get back up to fight you evenly instead of kicking me while i'm down". this is a game though, they'll keep kicking you while you're on the ground. do whatever it takes to win within the game.

the way you tear kind of hurt people's feelings. a lot of people do tear during their gaming career but usually they never say something so overboard like i've heard you do before that just makes people feel like complete shit. people play competitive games to win, there's really no rules in the game but the game itself. i think you set boundaries for yourself because of this honor system you use to play games. if you keep doing that, you'll never be the best. being the best is a goal to a lot of people. i know that it was MY goal when i played videogames. it's fun when you're so good that you don't even have to try to win. and when someone just as good comes along, it's awesome because now you HAVE to try to win. that's where i got my fun. winning is winning, no matter if what you're doing is the cheapest thing in the world. what this does is it makes the other person try to find a counter, OR something even cheaper. even if it seems like this cheap move can't be counterable, there's almost always a way even if it takes a while to find.

i think you're a cool guy. i'm sure you've changed as a gaming type of person too. but this is what i remember from the past. i could be wrong about everything i just said, but that's kind of my theory on the way you go about games.

you gotta be joking, right? i agree with the tearing, but you take it to a new level. the level where you buffer your lose to make the OTHER player feel shitty. i'll call your style "shit tearing". a mixture of shit talking and tearing. i felt great everytime you did that. not really. i usually don't take shit like that seriously, but after a while, a.k.a constantly, it sinks in slowly. its like you are asking the other person to let you win or not use "cheap" tricks.

Your theory is completely incorrect. I look at the game system as far as risk and reward system and base alot off of that. I think if you beat the move before it happens it crushes the opponet's way of starting and thinking, because they have been so used to a certain way of thinking. I kick people when they are down and never let them up in videogames. I always try to go at my full power. Otherwise, it would be insulting to your opponet. Kinda like when someone dosen't play their business character unitl you beat all the other subs down bad. All of a sudden, they go right back to their main. Of course, it could be just a way of testing out their subs, but anyone can clearly tell when your being played like that. I equate a big animation frame move on block should be addressed right back with the other characters fastest move and if it dosen't then you should have options or a way of beating it before it happens. Otherwise, in my eyes it's pretty cheap and it lacks the discipline of risk for you opponet. Many games are this way and if people like them, so be it. I ususally get into heated debates about these subjects and people think I personally attack them with what I think (my opinion) about their game. Either they can't discuss about the system, because there is a lack of knowledge or they don't choose to seeing there is no end to this eternal fight or they are just plainly selfish. This is one reason why Japan is so much better than us, because alot of them lack selfishness and exsist in a tribe or community of healthy minded gamers THAT SHARE TO GET BETTER. Either way I always am labeled an ass, because of my opinion. What's wrong with seeing if 50/50 might exsist. Also, I see poor mannerisms during play that people give off that no verbal word needs to be said, but both know what each other was intending to say without saying it. I see alot of people who win at games give a shit grin, giggle as if what you just did to beat them at that moment was cute or plainly talk shit. These things I detest and sware to burn into the ground. Anytime I ever win I always try to be humble unless the other has burned me hard before and we are rivals. I usually never try to start shit, but I will admit in my past I have got heated and said things I regret from the moment of battle. Alot of people don't recall their mannerisms and think everything is fine, wrong. Some people just don't forget. Tim - I have never had anything against you personally. If you remember my PM, it hurt me a lot to come clean like that because I knew exactly how it felt to be treated that way. I even told you that you weren't my enemy, you haven't done anything to warrant that. The only thing you've done in the past is make me feel uncomfortable and granted, while that's my problem - it shouldn't have to be. On the flip side, you could say I'm living in the clouds and wishing for friends who don't make me uncomfrtable from time to time, but that could go either way. Moving on to why I didn't say hi to you, you've got me there. I have no excuse for that except for wimping out. We have always gotten along outside of games (and even inside of games, save for what could happen on either side), so I would like to see that continue. I have mini-hookups from time to time that never last extremely long, and I can't accomodate the number of people that you or Chris can. If we're all going to have a hookup then we need some neutral territory where we can all meet and that isn't too far from each of us (say a half hour drive for each one attending?). Miles and I have been cooking up some possibilities, so hopefully that works out. I'll leave it up to him to post info, though.

All I look for is comradery in games. In Colombia I told you that I "wasn't about a team", well, looking back on it I was. I just didn't know at the time how it would be organized, so it seemed easier to just say I was playing for myself. You and I have always gotten along fine before. I really get along with everybody, it's just certain things that people do that can keep me from doing that. As far as actually playing games go, I will help you on things, teach you things, but we'll see on playing with you until the next time we meet.

Wow, I don't check the board for three or four days, and look what I miss. To everybody that's played me over the last week G.G. I would like to adress some of the comments, by various people over the past few pages. When you sit back and really look at it. It's all really silly, reguardless of where you go, people are going to complain about somthing, the problem is some people take minor things too personal. People get mad at me about complaining, as if I use it as an excuse for loosing, but I never do. When I comlain, it's always about sticks win or loose but when I loose I always give props, as well as when I win. There's a problem with certain members of our community who rub other people the wrong way, in one way or another. Just as you're pointing out others faults, realize yuor own.

I can remember when we all played MVCII, there were times that you lost, and the first thing out of your mouth was the sticks. Eventhough, all of us knew the sticks were'nt perfect. The same thing you complain about, you were once guilty of. The fact that you only complained when you lost, was like a slap in the face to the NWP players, to whom it was more important considering most of us played low tier and for fun. For that simple fact, there was alot of dislike for you by some(not me). At the same time, it didn't seem as if you really cared for us either. It's kind-of bad when you come to somebody's stomping grounds and not even so much as a "Hi" to anybody. It's easier not to like somebody you don't know, than it is, not like someboby you do know. First off, love the av. Now on a serious note, I noticed that you take criticism personally, weather it's jokingly like Scott and Miles, truthfully like myself, or insulting like Tim. But at the sametime if you look back at your past posts' you shoot insults constantly, maybe intentional, maybe not nobody knows. If other people made comments towards you, simular to comments you've made, you'ld be in constant conflict, so just watch what you say, and sometimes it's not what you say, but how you say it. As far as people talking behind your backs, be real, if you play top tier characters to there potiential, they are cheap but they give you the best opportunity to win. Thats probably why you play them. Besides that's the cleche that everybody uses when they don't know how to stop something. But I don't respond, and I try to never take it personal. After all, it's only a video game, just wanna play.

I can understand, some of the comments made toward you. Sometimes it rubs people the wrong way, when they win and you tear them down by characterizing them, or a certain move as being cheap. Or by saying that's not that hard. We choose the people we play with in games, pros and cons. If you pick a player that is rarely used, there's usually a reason why. I think you do it out of frusrtation, so it doesn't bother me. And your right, moves should be risk vs. reward, but we don't control that, we just deal with it. With all that being said I like you, I consider you a friend. We have good conversations other than video gaming. If not upset call me.

its true, but when it comes to guilty gear, its mostly false. everyone in that game can win. depends on blocking good. even anji can beat top tier. everyone in the game has the tools to win. nothing is cheap. the move might just have more range, outprioritizes, or comes out faster(frames). never cheap. people buffering their lose becuz the move is "cheap" makes me mad, but i don't say anything. its not like what i say is gonna make a difference about how the other feels.

When you're around, ofcourse nobody'll say, but once you leave thats when it all comes out. As a rule of thumb, I always ask myself "Would I say it, if they were here" and if the answer is no, then I dont say it. But back to the point, I never say a character is cheap, there are no rules except to win or loose. If its in the game, why not use it. If a game is too unbalanced for you don't play it. cough,cough,chaos I hear the samething about Anji's auto-guard, and Testaments overhead and traps. And Pots damage. I just ignore it.

yeah. but that was a LONG time ago. you see, i realized that it was stupid and i should have never complained about sticks. you just explained to me perfectly what i had said earlier and used me from the past as an example.

edit: to me, games are full of cheap shit. use them all. a move or something being cheap is like it doesn't cost much to use that move. or it's not hard to do at all but it does great damage. etc.

Dee - Very insightful and very well thought out post. Thanks for the props, but but I'm finally glad someone said what you did about everything. I try to be there when I can be for hookups, but I don't always pull through, and to some people I RARELY do, and I don't like disappointing people. I have my own goals too in all of this (as does everyone else), but that doesn't mean just abandoning the rest of the comp in an area is a smart thing to do. From what I understand, Chicago is split into two sides of equally talented players that just REFUSE to play with each other. I don't want STL to become something like that, where we focus so much on internal drama that we never get out of this state as far as reputation/meeting people/comp/fun goes. We should all get along, and my hopes as well are with the idea of ending all of the disputes. I'm aloof and I always will be as long as I'm at this time in my life, so I'll see people when I see people and I'll continue to try to make big hookups provided I know about them.

Glenn - I need to talk to you sometime soon, before Colombia. And as far as characters and tiers go, you did click with Sol. You went through Faust, Slayer, Testament, Jam, Baiken, a bit of Ky, a bit of Johnny, Robo-Ky and finally ended up on Sol. BTW your Sol is hella good, so I pump that shit up all the way. Rex - If a spot is open, I'm sure you could ride up with me. However, I can't make any promises because I'm the only ride up for most of the people who ride with me anyway. No promises, but be on the lookout.

Derek/Soino - Good games the other day, your I-no is getting better and better, you'll learn how to deal with Millia soon. It's a hard matchup for her, I think, and I-no might just have to guard the hairpin and turtle her ass off to keep her from getting it. It's a 6-4 matchup in favor of Millia, so I know it's not easy. Keep at it, you'll get it.

Allen - Y'know, it's a shame that you don't play fighters anymore - I think that we all could've appreciated your company and competition. And, chances are, you'd be beating my ass too. Good luck with CS, it's always great to hear your thoughts here. You often keep order when others are either unwilling or unavailable. Props abound.

Seeing as how Colombia is coming up this weekend, I think it's prudent that we all get together and practice somewhere. Be it NWP, someone's house, etc. At the same time we can figure out seating and driving arrangements for those who are going.

I agree with everything that has been said, mostly. As far as complaining/tearing/sticks/ goes, I think that one phrase can describe how I feel about it: suck it up. That may sound harsh, but you just lost at a GAME, plus it only makes you look bad by complaining about something or getting angry about it. Just deal with it in silence, cope, and come back to it later. It's no different than being 7 years old and having a game beat your ass so much that it made you extremely upset or angry. Just come back to it later when you're not dealing with a loss. Also, if you have a legitimate complaint about the sticks, save it until later when it won't look like you're buffering a loss. Afterall, if that isn't what you're doing, why look like it is? Props come secondary, I don't give props that much and I wish I did, but I'm really just very quiet when I'm playing. I'm trying to get better at that though, remembering to give props, not just thinking them.

If I don't know how to beat a move before, after block or during, I simply ask the person who is playing that character, because I would at the very least expect them to know more than an average about that character. This situation is so misunderstood, because either people think your lazy and don't study or they don't want to reveal what they know how to beat it or they simply don't know. In a way, it's asking, "How do I win?" To me, it's asking, "How do I react in this situation, so I can get good to make you even better as a whole." Sounds selfish, but if that's you in a nutshell than lead the person to the right path, site etc. Some people just can't teach and we all learn different ways, so I am not expecting everything. I ask this question alot in new games and will continue to. I'd rather be a fool for five minutes from grumbling and asking than be a fool for a lifetime and fall for the same trap. Also, you should feel good about yourself that someone is valuing your opinion. I think what my problem is with this game is that I expect something on block all the time or at least some option. Well, I talked with a bud today from another state and he said that you really don't get much, so in the ways of defense, I need to memorize where the guessing game is for every character's lockdown. This will be my main focus from now on in this game. Too much imo of the game is set up on offense and moving. I know the game is built off of aggression, but I would think a solid defense would shatter an aopponet's mind if they could simply do nothing. I know that's how I feel in vf when I can't score a single hit. Anyway, these are just some random thoughts if anyone feels like addressing them cool. I would like to start some meaningfull discussions on a players weaknesses and strengths, so we can all grow as a whole? Please use me as a example. The more constructive critisim is better. Please just don't be undescriptive of your obeservation. Example: Your predictable.

Tim - I think those are all excellent points, and as far as what you're saying about crushing an opponent through proper defense and make them feel like they can't score a hit - believe me when I say that it highly affects characters that need those traps to win. With Millia, if you guess right against one of my traps and I screw up or make a wrong choice to come back at you to try to keep the pressure going, then you could really make me pay for it because of her low defense. Venom's mixups I can now see about 80% of the time, but I take that in the face sometimes because it's only Brad I'm used to playing against. As far as memorizing the guessing games for each character, or rather, where those guessnig games come into play, you have got the right idea there. Since you play Venom now, I can tell you that if you do his lockdowns properly you can force someone into continued defense for extended periods of time until they become so overwhelmed that they make mistakes. I am a weak player in that I am highly technical, but do not play as smart as I should be. Therefore I'm very offensive, and therefore I can play a game based around offense, and in that game I play the most offensive based character in terms of winning when scoring a knockdown.

This game is not only based on offensive, but how well you can control your character. Character control is crucial at intermediate and up play because if you fail to have it, you can't stage an offensive and start traps. Also, good defense in this game comes from a good offense as well. Knowing which moves to use in each situation (beating out an attack with your own attack, when you can throw, how to best keep a flow going while on offense), and it's a huge gear shift from playing a defensive-styled game. P.S: Apology accepted, I apologize for being an ass as well. Now that we're on the same page with everything, we can both be more open about things. ^_^ As far as using you as an example, I think I can sum up a lot of problems with just this game by saying you need to learn to control your character better. I know that's extremely vague, but it's something I'd have to show you for the effect to hit come completely. Know all of your gatling options and observe. I'm not trying to sound condescending either when I say try not to get discouraged in certain matchups. VF is a game where everyone is designed around a core idea and the system is above all, whereas GGXX is a game based around a set core of defensive options and giving everybody a broken form of rushdown. There aren't many bad matchups in VF from what I understand? Correct me if I'm wrong? But in GGXX there are tons of bad matchups that go as far as 7-3 and 8-2. Hope to hear from you soon.

Once you get the axl bomber combo down your gonna make people cry. AXL: CHICKEN! As far as vf goes, I am impressed by your natural instincts while playing venessa. I really see you learning quickly and giving everyone a tough time in the near future. It will take a little time to learn all the sitautions, but when you do it's beautiful. Alright well, I'm glad to see some interest. AAron is midwest champ??? Damn good shit. Now, we had a huge counterstrike tourney in O'fallon we had to ship all our boxes to that store to handle the 40+ players running. There was a total of 3 power outages because of the players...it was crazy. BUT, the greedy owners raised the rent so the store got shut. However...the Troy store got all the O'fallon store's boxes and then some. We got 18 on the network. Yes, we can do counterstrike baby. Oh, and Guilty Gear. Yeah, we can do that on the big screen and on the three 29inch TV's in the console pit.
I got a LAN party on Friday the 16th. halo tournaments every Saturday. Sunday the 18th I got a Tekken Tag going. Sunday the 25th is tekken 4. Oh and counterstrike is gonna be busting out Friday the 23rd from 7pm - 7am. It's $15 and we'll give shit away.
If you want a place to do tournaments, this is the spot baby. Maybe we can hook up the DDR action and show off some sexy moves :)

Uh, I don't know overall, but three of the people who play in the Wreck Room in Columbia are in the top 30 in the world and numbers 1-3 in the region...however recently one of them has moved away. That's if you go by iGames as official rankings. They all used to play on the same HALO team, so they were def. the best in the state.

As for fighters I like to play just about anything. I like Guilty Gear I've never played it in a arcade but there is a first time for everything, alpha 3 is probably my favorite though and my best since I have it in my cab I get alot of practice. Verbel: No one plays A3 here. It's all about Guilty Gear, Tekken and VF, with a little ST to cleanse the pallette here in Saint Louis. I look forward to meeting you when you arrive.

Steve: Practice your Akira combos. Get to the 8th arcade in quest and play there constantly. Learn Evade-double throw escape gaurd, and double throw escape guard. Ask me or Tim to print off the VF4:Evo frame data. DOITDOITDOIT GOGOGOGO!!! Akira is an absurdly hard character to play, and if you don't put the time in, you're not going to get anywhere. Yes, that's kinda blunt, but, it's also very true. Though I don't know you very well, your Zappa is sick, and it seems like you have a lot of talent. You just need to harness it properly and your VF game will improve rapidly. Once I get a car I'll try to get out to your place or something for weekly sessions.

Also, GGs to Matt, Derek, and Aaron in XX, #Reload, Time Killers, and Pong. Yes, we went there.
