I finished BECK yesterday.

Now I'm sad.

They should continue the series.

IMO one of the most underrated and unique anime ever.

Best part obiviously was the music. I liked Moon on the Water (2nd Ending Theme)

Really memorable characters. Maho > *

The Greatful Sound concert was the best part.

BECK actually inspired me to want to play the guitar but I'm too lazy to do so.

#1 on my anime list, with GITS: SAC at #2 and Naruto at #3.

they never finished the beck anime?....i started the manga like a yr or two ago...the anime cant touch the manga. its hard since its a musical manga and so u have an image in ur head on how the voice should sound for singing.

When you read the manga that picks up where the anime finishes in Beck, you realize that it would have been silly to have made a season 2. The rest of the manga was kind of silly.

Hellsing manga continues to rock. I'm almost done with book 6 right now. Seras had this BFG (Big Freaking Gun) and just went nuts on the opposition. It was beautiful!! And Integera just took charge and ask her enemies to escort her home while she smoked a cigar!! That was too hilarious!!

Full Metal Alchemist: The final ep airs this coming Saturday. The way ep 50 ended was a serious cliffhanger.

The ending to Full Metal Alchemist was amazingly awesome. Seriously. Right now it's the best ending to any anime series I've ever seen. I'm gonna start buying the DVDs somewhere down the road and I'm gonna start buying the manga.

I was on the last ep of AD Police. It was almost finished but the DVD started messing up on me. Sucks. So Hans turned out to be some kinda weird thing. Creepy stuff.

I finished Hellsing manga vol. 7. How long to they finish book 8 in Japan? Seras just went beast on that pyscho girl!! Books 6-7 seemed like they were really geared towards her, giving her some serious time to shine.

Silly ? How so ?

Because all of the chapters are based on concerts and how they are negatively perceived by an American audience at first until they win them over with their music. It's the same formula over and over again and it gets boring really quickly. The main character doesn't really learn any new techniques and Maho isn't on travel with him.

according to bandai visual, solid state society consists of "100 minutes of new footage" so it does seem most likely that it is a ova or a movie. but it's under the stand alone complex moniker so it's most probable that oshii is not part of the project.

rumor has it that it is directed by kamiyama kenji, but it is not confirmed as official yet.

production i.g. is going to make a big announcement (along with a sneak peak trailer) at the tokyo international anime fair on the 22 and 23 so more should become clear in the next couple of days.

Well, if it's under Stand Alone Complex, then I guess Kenji Kamiyama seems like the right man for the job since he did a great job on the 1st GiG.

Dunno about the 2nd GiG though. I've been hearing alot of bad things about the rushed animation and story but I'll see for myself once the Manga releases of 2nd GiG comes to my local video store.

I(quickly) peeped the first volume of ES21 and the only thin that bugged me was the toning down of the language compared to the scans. Then again the scanlators were probably overindulging as well.

I want to pick up the series but it's just that distrust that have from years prior to this of companies that censor something for this market. I know it gets rarer and rarer when it becomes more popular but manga (despite the breadth of titles we have in the U.S.) isn't still on anime's level yet. It's getting there (DH putting out Crying Freeman:lovin:  :nunchuck: ) but there's still that level of caution that I had for animeabout 10yrs ago.

Yeah I think I'll give ES a more thorough look through but I'll probably end up picking it up. That's the one thing about manga, hell books in general, is that feeling of holding a book and flipping through pages as opposed reading it on PC monitor.

Master Chibi
03-23-2006, 06:59 AM
I'm one of those few cracked souls who's stuck in the middle when it comes to School Rumble. I absolutely love all the characters in the show, but I always get a tiny bit upset when the show tries to go with a romantic angle but then (98% of the time) throws a comedic spin to negate what romantic touch was there to begin with. Obviously this line of action is what makes the show what it is, constantly fucking with the likes of Harima while screwing with the other characters here and there, but because I adore romantic anime (of which there are practically NONE out there now) and I adore the characters even more I keep wanting the show to just get a bit more serious. I personally feel that putting the characters into an ACTUAL established realtionship could bring about even more humor, one that's rarely ever seen in anime.

Ah well. I remember almost becoming part of a scanlation team on wannabefansubs forum not that long ago, and I haven't read the scanlations in ages (I liked to spoil it for myself by asking for the newest raw anyway).

;p

i think it was always jin kobayashi's intention that school rumble is more of a comedy than romance. the romance factor seemed strengthened in the anime, but if you read the manga you can see that school rumble is a plot driven comedy that uses occasional heart aching drama as the catalyst to move the story forward.

and what's the point of displaying established relationship in a romantic comedy? although i wouldn't classify school rumble in the harem genre, the norm is for the protagonist tol be torn between other female characters regardless, and a strong mutual attachment would just hinder plot development. do you really think school rumble would be any more interesting if harima and tenma were in a open relationship? the day that happens is probably when school rumble ends.

Well that the thing, I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge sucker for romance in anime, and as of late there just hasn't fucking been any. So when School Rumble came along I was instantly drawn to the realtionships between the characters, which in turn made me love the characters. The reason why the end result is one I dislike is because it takes like FOREVER for characters to go anywhere with one another, and in reality that's just how the series paces itself. So I enjoy the comedy plenty, but I value the romantic aspects much, much, much more.

Purely my own selfishness really.

As for establishing a realtionship between characters, well there's plenty humor to be had there, and it's something not many anime / manga have ever done, if at all (save the recent Love Roma).

By the way, Eri X Harima > *

no wai, mikoto > all. well, mebbe except yakumo.

and the point i was trying to get at was that there is nothing to drive the story if the protagonist is in the relationship that he/she so desires. and romantic comedy where the two characters are already in established relationship have to dig within the characters... which usually ends up in sexual dirge like futari ecchi and okusama wa joshikousei.

Master Chibi
03-23-2006, 09:58 PM
Perhaps there's material for a spin off in the future then, but you're right.

Any suggestions on some romantic stuff I can get my hands on?

Also, you fan of Go Nagi? Devilman? Cutey Honey, that type of thing :D?

orka
03-23-2006, 10:08 PM
My knowledge on romantic manga/anime is pretty limited, and same goes for old school stuff. :(

I've actually seen couple of episodes of the original Cuty Honey but that was many years ago. But Go Nagai is considered a master of his time so it probably wouldn't hurt to check him out if you like the 70's style of art and story.

As for romantic stuff, most people point to the recently completed Ichigo 100% but I'm not too familiar with it. I would actually recommend you to start with works by Masakazu Katsura, who is actually a large inspiration for Kawashita Mizuki (author of Ichigo 100%). Video Girl Ai, DNA^2, I"s, etc. All his stuff are pretty good. I"s in particular has a strong impression on me since I was around 13~15 when I was reading them. I would go for Ichigo 100% after that.

I just choose not to read most romantic manga not because I dislike them but because I can't relate to most of the story anymore.

Somebody else here could probably be a better help.

Master Chibi
03-23-2006, 10:10 PM
I've read all of that actually, save I's, which I'm still reading.

Man the opening theme to DNA^2 was so good, wasn't it L'arc n Ciel or WHATEVER they're named?

Also, I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge fan of old school stuff, like Rumiko's older stuff.

Just picked up these mangas:

I"s vol. 6
Naruto vol. 9
Kenshin vol. 24

Kenshin vol. 24 is mindblowing. Watsuki-San took the story in a completely different direction and I totallyw as not expecting it. Kenshin is broken. And I don't mean uber powerful broken, I mean broken inside. The lights are on but nobody's home.

SPOILERS

Enishi killed Karou. There's a scene of her with a sword through her heart and a cross shapped scar on her cheek. Kenshin is devestated. He leaves to a village called "The Fallen" and has chained up his Sakabato. But it turns out Karuo is not dead. Instead, a very convicing doll was left in her place at the dojo while Enishi took Karou hostage. If he can make Kenshin think she is dead, then he'll rot to death. I've never seen Kenshin like this. He's practically lost the will to live.

END SPOILERS

I really like what Watsuki-San is doing with Yahiko. He seems to be taking center stage in book 24 and in book 25, it looks like he'll have another major battle. I can't wait!!

Back when I read the scanlations god knows how long ago there was a rumor going around that Karou really was dead, but that the backlash from fans in response to this was so absurdly overwhelming that he had to come up with the likes of a fake 'body' and all that somewhere along the line.

It kinda makes sense and it kinda doesn't.

KENSHIN SPOILERS:

*********************

Back when I read the scanlations god knows how long ago there was a rumor going around that Karou really was dead, but that the backlash from fans in response to this was so absurdly overwhelming that he had to come up with the likes of a fake 'body' and all that somewhere along the line.

It kinda makes sense and it kinda doesn't.

Well I don't know about calling it the best ass in all of anime, but I won't lie to you. I have stared at that hot animated rump on more than one occasion. The way that outfit clings onto those cheeks, nice and smooth... it makes you want to give it a good slap and watch it jiggle.

Man all of Urushihara's girls look like they're made out of clay, not matter how he draws them. The hair looks like plastic, I never liked the look at all.

This is like the one time I'll disagree with you, but I freaking love Inu-Yasha. Chalk it up to my being a complete Rumiko whore, but I stuck through the anime from start to finish (or rather, the epsiode where they just decided to stop at). Some if it has to do with wanting to check out how the new studio handled Inu-Yasha. A different studio handled all her previous work (Ranma / Urusei Yatsura), but leap in quality this time was absurd. I'm really hard pressed to pinpoint much anything negative interms of presentation, from the animation to the music. The rest of it is me simply being in love with the characters, which is nothing new in my case. I agree that it dragged on, but those episodes were SOMETHING worthwhile happened, that STUCK to the plot and didn't disappear in the next episode just 100% made it worth it for me. That's why I love the pairings in the show too.

Inu-Yasha as a whole was just vasssssssstly different from all her previous work (though there were hints that she was going in this direction really) that I was happy to tag along I guess.

Man you've got to have one hell of a body to wear a fricking full body suit like that when you're out kicking ass. Her butt is absurd, and I stick to my claim, it's the best ass EVER. You're in for a lot more, since the show gets infinitely better after episode 8 or so.

Inuyasha needs to be put to rest, the manga just seems to be drawing things out for way longer than it should. Was it really necessary to go up to 450 chapters (and counting)?

If your a fan of full metal panic i'd definetly check out fomfuu. School rumble sounds good, hopefully i can start and finish the first season before i start work next week. Damn it was nice having time off from work and school and watching a bunch of anime.

Monster seems good so far through about 45+ episodes. Theres enough stuff in the series that keep it fresh throughout and they're aren't a whole lot of episodes that flash back, which is weird in a long series like this. Hopefully it stays good.

kiddy grade is okay. i definitely wouldn't rank it as one of my favs or anything but it's one of those popcorn anime that's enjoyable without much thinking. it's still fairly memorable for me because it's famed character designer keiji goto's director debut.

but yea it's true that the story won't start moving until about episode 10. just consider all prior to that as fillers.

Did you even care if dio lived or died? Seriously, his character turned to shit. He was the only character throughout the whole series who was a little intresting and they managed to kill that in the last couple of episodes. As far as plot holes damn man there were several. For instance, what the heck was the history of that little girl and how was she born to be the key of this huge ship? Also, alot more explanation of where the ship came from would have been really nice. Also, god damn claus was annoying as fuck. And the jelousy, where did that go? it lasted like 3 episodes and they totally forgot about it.

You also had to know the guy with all the survival badges(i forget his name) was going to die in the end. he just had to, because thats the way it always is. Claus just couldn't die could he? Damn it.

This show reminded me alot of the TV show lost. It seems like instead of having a well planned and thought out story, they just make random shit up from week to week. At least lost is entertaining though. At least for now.

i delete most of the stuff on my hdd after i watch them, unless i really think i will rewatch them or doubt it will be released in the united states.

and to me "hardcore collectors" are people that actually spend considerable amount of money on dvd and official products. downloading stuff via bittorrent doesn't really take any effort or cost any money other than your internet service fee (which is a fixed cost for most people's lives anyway), and blank dvd-r's are dirt cheap compared to buying actual anime.

i know the concept of watching anime is different outside of japan (err... asia) since most people were introduced through the internet in the past five years or so. but that doesn't mean that people should expect anime as something they deserve to get their hands on for free. a real fan serious enough about it is a person that financially supports the industry. the writers/producers/directors/animators/actors probably do it for the fans over anything, but in return i think we are obligated to thank them back by paying money where they're due.

yea i download tons of stuff (raws) that are currently airing or published on paper, but most of these also turn out to be series/franchises that i really like so i will eventually end up buying them anyway once available.

Overall it was a really great series, and I look forward to more work from the manga author. This series is like so many other animes, that could totally be accepted in the mainstream here in the USA on an actual network. I'm not holding my breath or anything but it would be really nice for some anime to get the publicity here in America they deserve. i delete most of the stuff on my hdd after i watch them, unless i really think i will rewatch them or doubt it will be released in the united states.

and to me "hardcore collectors" are people that actually spend considerable amount of money on dvd and official products. downloading stuff via bittorrent doesn't really take any effort or cost any money other than your internet service fee (which is a fixed cost for most people's lives anyway), and blank dvd-r's are dirt cheap compared to buying actual anime.

i know the concept of watching anime is different outside of japan (err... asia) since most people were introduced through the internet in the past five years or so. but that doesn't mean that people should expect anime as something they deserve to get their hands on for free. a real fan serious enough about it is a person that financially supports the industry. the writers/producers/directors/animators/actors probably do it for the fans over anything, but in return i think we are obligated to thank them back by paying money where they're due.

yea i download tons of stuff (raws) that are currently airing or published on paper, but most of these also turn out to be series/franchises that i really like so i will eventually end up buying them anyway once available.

Yeah, I usually end up buying any anime series I see on TV/torrent that I really like. But thats how I am about everything usually, Games, music cds, etc. Sometimes I'll even by the bad ones because I feel bad about bootlegging them. Although, right now I'm jobless for smoking a gang of pot so thats not happening any time soon.

At least for now.

i can see where your comming from, but to me those plot holes were left so the viewer can fill them up sort like eva with the very little info but i can see your point.

i see you got hooked on monster good.
the main reason nobody has license it is cause of the number of eps alot times shows with those many eps get passed over for 26 or 12 or few eps counts
i do hope genoen or bandai or heck funi gets it before viz does.... ughh

for shows hmm might want try planetes or gankutsuou

has for writer of monster he does have couple other projects his doing in anime but main one everybody waiting for is 20th century boys which if he did that show in anime it be 100 eps plus

Soo it's the spring season 2006 and bunch of new shows have come out in the past 2 weeks. I'm curious which shows you guys are gonna be watching...

After downloading about a dozen new shows, I think I'll stick with:

School Rumble season 2
Ah Megami-sama season 2
ARIA season 2
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
Higurashi no Nakukoro

Maybe:

Utawarerumono
Black Lagoon
Nana
Ray
Garasu no Kantai

Avoid:

Disgea
Air Gear
Kiba
Zegapain

Most Surprising:

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu

Most Disappointing:

Air Gear

That adds to what I already have been watching:

Fate/Stay Night
Ergo Proxy
Top wo Nerae 2!
Karas
Binchou-tan

And Blood+ is over for now... until next set of episodes begin airing (whenever that is).

There are a few subs of Nana out, just check Tokyo Tosho.

I REALLY want someone to sub Himawari, though the only reason I'm intrested is becasue I'm a fan of the character designer, Okama.

Zegapain, is kinda boring and the CG is crap. I'll stick with it a little bit longer just in case since I'm such a huge sucker for mecha

I saw it in theaters in NYC, loved it.

Kaze no tani no Nausicaa will always be Miyazaki's best Ghibli film. It was his first original production (after doing the Lupin III movie), and still cannot be toppled in terms of overall quality of the story to this day.

Speaking of Ghibli, Gedo Senki (http://www.ghibli.jp/), a new film directed by Goro Miyazaki (son of Hayao Miyazaki) is coming to Japanese theaters this summer. The rumor is that the original script was rejected by the elder Miyazaki, thus ending up in the hands of his son. I can't confirm that as real info, but the movie looks interesting nonetheless. TRAILER (http://www.onlineghibli.com/earthsea/media/gedosenki_trailer.rmvb)

EDIT:

OK, I was reading some interviews online and apparently Gedo Senki was originally planned way back in 1967 when Hayao Miyazaki was approached by American author Ursula K. LeGuin to turn her Earthsea series into a animated film. Miyazaki claims that the books (third is his favorite, he says) had a significant influence on him at the time and went as far to say that it was a inspiration for all his movies (from ...Nausicaa to Howl...).

Unfortunately, the plan fell apart at the time. Miyazaki and his long time producer Toshio Suzuki was approached by LeGuin again in 2003, but Miyazaki was busy working on Howl... and also claimed that he no longer was sure if he was of capable age (now 65) to direct a movie about the story he was passionate about more than 20 years ago. After long series of discussions between both parties in following months, Goro Miyazaki who has no directing or animating experience but has worked alongside his father for a long time (one of his noted accomplishments include designing of the Ghibli Museum), was nominated by Suzuki to direct the film.

LeGuin was suspiciosu at first, but literally entrusted her work in the hands of Goro Miyazaki after seeing his enthusiasm. The young Miyazaki illustrated the entire storyboard by himself, which shocked all his colleagues. When the legend animator Eiji Otsuka saw the storyboard, he flat out called it "a perfect movie" and thought that it was done by the elder Miyazaki. When Hideki Anno took a look, he said "now, this is a Ghibli" film, and questioned why Goro Miyazaki (38) had not directed any films in the past.

k I could go into more detail but that's it for now...

Today I got the greatest anime deal ever. I got Full Metal Panic for only $60! Not the slim pack, mind you. I got the hardcore, original boxset that costs over $150!

I mean honestly would anyone really want the slim pack? After all, everyone knows that it's all about girth. Look at it.

Now if you were to insert that FMP slim pack into your lady's vagina, would she even feel it guys? Ha! Maybe if you're lucky.

That's why I've got the original, extra thick, VAGINA-DESTROYING DVD BOXSET! Now I'm happy and so is she. I've attached some pictures of my anime to this post to show how much of a loser I am. Anyone else think it's really freakin' cool to have anime when it's cool like this? I don't see how people can stand to just download it when something this awesome exists.

probably cus they couldn't get their hands on the original film grain. since the pee pee and the pussyhole are always censored in all forms of japanese cinema due to a law, whenever there's a sex scene or nudity of any sort, those body parts will get blurred.

when stuff gets licensed in the u.s. they are usually uncensored (some people in japan import hentai dvd's released in the u.s. just for that, lol). but since crying freeman is such a old ass show, they probably failed to get their hands on the original film.

oh yea for people waitiing for ippo boxsets don't hold your breath the show is not doing that well to merit a box and if they did make box it cost pretty high, but now in my humble opinion your see maybe brick release later on.

Concerning the mosaic censor in Crying Freeman, this is what was posted by Samantha Robinson from the Dark Horse website after I brought up the mosaic

We have not imposed any kind of censorship of our own upon Crying Freeman. The 'blur' effects to which you are referring actually appear in the most recent Japanese edition of the book put out by Mr. Koike's own company; what we have done is produce a faithful reproduction -- at Mr. Koike's behest -- of this most recent edition. The reason for the disparity between our edition and that published by Viz many years ago has to do not with our preferences as companies, but rather with changes in the Japanese social and political climate. Censorship laws in Japan have changed considerably over the years, with certain periods being far more conservative than others. Different editions of a single book can often reflect these changes; this is the case with Crying Freeman, which used to be published by Shogakukan, but has since been returned to Mr. Koike's own company, Koike Shoin. The Japanese edition of Crying Freeman vol. 1 that Viz used when making their book was different from the one which we used, which was published during a period in Japan that was more conservative with regard to sexual content. I feel it is very important to make it clear that none of the changes to the artwork that you see between the Viz edition and our edition were imposed by us; these changes were made by the Japanese company that currently holds the rights to this property. And indeed, in terms of art, no changes whatsoever were made to make our edition different from the most current Japanese edition (which Mr. Koike prefers).

If you want figures, just search at HLJ. Hobby Search is really good too, but I personally find HLJ to be slightly more reputable.

HLJ is fuckin expensive thuogh when someone who is THERE could just give you a hookup =)

orka
04-12-2006, 11:48 PM
well, if you know people then that's probably the best... but that's not the case with most people. third party auction bidders is another route, if people are looking for good deals or just something very rare and specific.

but HLJ is pretty much the best option left otherwise, from buying anything from figuirines, resin kits, apparels, etc. Hobby Search is actually as extensive in terms of their inventory but their service isn't just as good in comparison to HLJ. the only real gripe i have about HLJ is that they usually take few days from processing to shipping, and delivery of merchandise can take quite a while even if you use the fastest EMS option.

I've been waiting for Lilith-XX (http://www.hlj.com/product/WAVCC-04) figure by Wave (got shipped on March 31, soon after release) and Top wo Nerae 2! (http://www.hlj.com/product/CSP22645) shirt for almost 2 weeks now. I used SAL for shipment for both, though... so I can't complain.

the third option is american retailers and sites, which can be both good and bad. some sites tend to jack up the price, while others offer it in what is cheaper than directly buying them japan with shipping costs taken into consideration. but american retailers usually don't have the hottest stuff that people want and they usually ship stuff much later than the original release date in japan.

but yea, buying bishoujo figures online is generally expensive... which is probably why i ended up buying several when i visited japan in the winter. asobit city in akiba is awesome, btw. each floor dedicated to different genre of figures. :D

Gasaraki
04-13-2006, 12:31 AM
Yes, I know all this, my point is MC asked SK(who's in Japan right now) to get something for him, I was just pointing out that that'd definitely be the better option.

But yes, I do agree that otherwise, HLJ is pretty good option for stuff that they have. Unfortunatly for me, most of hte stuff I want(various artbooks) it's nearly impossible to find in English sites =(

Master Chibi
04-13-2006, 06:03 AM
I usually get my figurines from various places in NYC (quite a few), but every so often I hit up HJL when I just CAN NOT find them otherwise.

I originally asked SK to find me an Eri (SR) figurine, but the only one worth purchasing hasn't been released yet, so I'm all for Lum instead.

To be frank, I think there is yet to be a Eri figure of any kind to this day except for gashapons. There might have been a resin kit or two but I'm not sure.

Good Smile Company is releasing a 1/8 scale PVC sometime in June though (I think).

If you guys are looking for Anime toys and stuff hit me up. I run a web based Anime store. In fact I have to redo the whole website because it's been taking off like wildfire. Heck if this keeps up I might be able to quit my day-job and do this full time.

If you are looking for something let me know I'll try to do the best I can for ya all.

That Take fight in the latest translated ch. of Ippo was sick imo. I didn't find it boring. Jesus christ I wish someone would bring this here (Dark Horse maybe...).

I like Hobby Search a bit better than HLJ. Main reasons being that you always get the 5% discount instead of just on preorders, and you get points (5% of your purchases) that can be used for discount in future purchases.

This is the way I see it:

• Hobby Search gives you a bit more discounts
• Hobby Search allows you to preorder sooner (that's my impression at least)
• Hobby Search allows you to hold items to ship together given they are one month within each other. HLJ doesn't (AFAIK). This is important for shipping cost on preorders.
• HLJ's inventory usually lasts longer and is more varied (books, etc).

In terms of service, both have their quirks. Both stores take a while to ship, and Hobby Search sometimes takes long to communicate (sometimes the items arrive before they let me know they shipped). But overall both stores take about the same time. My main gripe is that neither stores allows a different shipping and billing address. That's a big issue for me since I don't like packages to arrive to my house (safety). I haven't had communication with HLJ's customer support, but I can't complain of my interaction with HS people.

So at the end of the day, I check Hobby Search first. If they don't have it, I check HLJ.

I don't know why someone said that HLJ is expensive, when they pretty much sell at retail. The problem is that shipping is expensive (EMS), but if you have friend and make a big order, you can save quite a bit. If the figure you are looking for has a domestic release (Yamato) then of course its cheaper, but that's the exception.

For books, CDs, DVDs, and manga, the best bet is Amazon Japan. Works the same way as Amazon, and their economy shipping is way cheaper than EMS at the expense of 7-10 days of waiting. The only problem of Amazon is that their international shipping is not allowed for some kinds of items (software, adult stuff, etc). This really sucks for me because a lot of I've CDs are listed as software. Alternatives are Mangaoh (especially for stuff Amazon won't ship), CD Japan (calendars and some figures available as well), Jungle (sometimes they got some rare items – I got the Love Hina Japanese box for less than $30, pretty much new, YEARS after it was released), and Animaxis (only reliable way for me to get the Chocola books) but all these are EMS. Animebooks is a good domestic store if the price inflation of an item is not bad.

HLJ allows you to select stuff to be shipped seperately or together after placing a order. The reason I prefer to buy figures from HLJ over Hobby Search is because I think they do a better job of protecting the packages for shipping. While you get the bubble wrapping as standard from HLJ, from Hobby Link they usually don't much more than wrapping stuff in newspapers.

And it's just that I've been buying predominantly from HLJ for a while now... and I find the HLJ site easier to navigate. So I just instinctively go there first and if I can't get what I want, check Hobby Search after that.

I didn't really pay attention to the points system before, though. Maybe I'll start buying from Hobby Search more often.

I do agree that Amazon is very good for books, though. Although when I buy mangas I usually just go to the Asahiya bookstore when I'm in Chicago.

And also, I would like to emphasize to everybody who is not familiar about buying figures: DO NOT BUY FROM CHINA OR HONG KONG unless it's a large reputable retailer like Yes Asia. Then again... what's the point of buying figures from Yes Asia?

Well, I meant like Gundam Models n such. I've found much cheaper places to get import Gundam Models, I guess it's different with the other stuff they sell.

Point taken. Hobby Search does pad their boxes with paper or newspaper, but their boxes are pretty sturdy and so far I haven't seen any damage on what I get.

I find Hobby Search's site more straightforward to navigate since the figure menus are right there, but HLJ's search is more powerful. So its kind of a tie to me.

I got enough points to get 50% off my next figure (Tomoyo from Clannad). That will at least take care of the shipping cost. :)

The one in Arlington Heights? I used to live on the apartments behind the marketplace! I found their CD prices to be decent, but their print material prices were way, way high. I think they were on the yen/100 + 50%, and considering the currency exchange, that was like 160% their regular price. I'd rather pay the shipping cost on Amazon JP.

Almost every single bookstore I know of is overpriced, in and out of cons. The only good ones I remember are Akibaotaku (roughly yen/100 + 30%), a bookstore in Little Tokyo that closed, or little shops that sell manga on the cheap (sometimes used, sometimes just old). You can find some good gems on these little stores.

woot, School Rumble Season 2 is out...but why the heck is WF using MP4 files?

What other new animes from this season should I check out? I looked at that Suzumiya, seems like something I will follow. I'm not too fond of KIBA right now...not sure what to say about XXXHolic. The manga was decent...but the animation of the anime so far is turning me off very quickly.

MP4 is just a container. They are using h.264 encoding, also commonly used in MKV files and QT7.

beh, dunno.

1) turning anime/manga into live action films.
2) turning japanese movies into american movies.

those two usually end up in disappointing results...

I'm kinda worried about it because the manga and anime series were so long. There just isn't enough time to cover all the episodes and side plots. There were probably only around 5 useless episodes out 74. Basically, almost every episode was necessary to fully understand the whole story.

While watching monster though, I always thought it might be better suited for live action than anime though. Nothing is really done in the anime that can't be done with actors, and I think it'll allow more character emotion.

I'm wondering about a couple things though. Is tenma going to be japanese?
Is this actually going to be shot in Germany? Which character or part of the story is going to end up being cut out for time constraints? 2 movies isn't really enough.

btw, wtf is up with fruit basket. I feel like I've grown 2 vaginas or something for watching it. Good anime for kids.

Ah Megami-sama season 2
ARIA season 2
Black Lagoon
Higurashi no Nakukoro ni
Magical Pokaan (plz don't ask why @_@)
School Rumble season 2
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu

might add a show or two in the upcoming few weeks, but the above pretty much earned solid spots.

ok so .hack//roots is here
//sign has been one of my all time favorite anime series, and i am a bit .hack fan overall so i was lookin forward to this show.

after watching the first episode i dont quiet know what to make of it yet. it seems to have some promise, but the characters seem a little bland so far. haseo is just another helpless protagonist getting pushed around, but for some reason thing
