Ep. 3 of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is awesome!!
Anyhow, it seems like they're jumping to the third novel in the next episode as the title is changed to Suzumiya Haruhi no Taikutsu.

I'm in Seattle for the rest of this week.
Picked up some manga
Vagabond vol.4 (had the other three when they first came out so I'm a little behind...lol)
King of Wolves better than Japan but the ending pissed me off
Lady Snowblood vol.1 good shit
Goglo 13 vol.2
Peep the lates issue of Ruronin Kenshin and am for sure picking this up. I saw on pic(won't say what it is but for those keeping up you can probably take a guess) and was like WHOA!

Read Kenshin vol. 25 a few weeks ago. Man, I am loving what Watsuki-San has done with Yahiko. He's practically been the main star of books 24-15. His fight with Kujirinami was freaking dope. He successfully did Kenshin's Ryushosen. If he can do the Nine-Headed Dragon Strike, that will make me shiver. I really hope Yahiko no Sakabato gets brought to the states.
As of Naruto vol. 9, I'm am so loving this manga even more than when I started reading it back in 2003. Naruto's fight with Kiba was boss. And I'm really wanting Naruto to hook up with Hinata. Screw Sakura. She's a whinney little broad who has a crush on some dude that isn't even interested in romance. Maybe now Naruto will realize that Hinata has a crush on him. But then I've only read books 1-9 and they are on like, what book 20 in Japan? Well thanks to some awesome AMVs, I already know that Naruto fights Neji and wins and that he has a colossal battle against Garaa. Ooooooooo, I can't wait to see/read about those.

They're past 32 in Japan, but I'm going to warn you it starts dropping off pretty severely around volume 29-30. And it doesn't look like Naruto is EVER going to notice Hinata :annoy:
O snap, Chibi. No you didn't!! >:\

Are you freaking kidding me? 30+ books and Naruto STILL doesn't know Hinata has the hots for him? I read a while back that he and Sakura may hook up. Please tell me I read wrong. Also, does the story skip ahead a few years or does Naruto and co just remain 12-13 through the the story thus far?
Speaking of Naruto, I'm very impressed with the anime dub. I know sub fans would probably bite my head off for saying so, but the dub of Naruto is, IMO one of the best dubs out there. I finally have a voice to go with Naruto when I'm reading his lines in the manga. Sasuke, Iruka, Lee, Kakashi, Hokage, Neij; they all sound great.

I watched the first episode, but wasn't impressed by it so ended up dropping it right away. They billed it as a Gonzo production, but it became quite apparent that it is one of their low budget shows. I sort of liked the character designs but for me that was about it.

As for Naruto and Sakura, it's hinting that it'll happen, and it's pretty obvious by now, but nothing concrete exactly.
Time skip is about 2 and 1/2 years ahead and happens around volume 29-30 I believe? I don't rmemeber the actualy volume numbers.

Kiddy grade was decent. It should have ended with episode 14 though. Yeah there was alot more story to cover, but to end the show on that high note would have been nice. I also didn't like any of the characters really, except for Eclair. Story was ok, but some 50 year old trying to get attention from mommy was pretty laughable.
Since i'm on a sci-fi high right now, i'll think I'll watch gundam seed. Any other recent(2-3 years) futuristic sci-fi action shows out there. not the obvious like GITS or Gundam, something not well known like Texnolyze, or ES planet.

GITS (SAC, I presume?) is obvious but one of the best ever TV anime series in recent years. I definitely wouldn't compare it next to any Gundam series if I were you.
Actually, it's kinda weird since I can't recall many stuff off my head that I would call action and sci-fi with high praise in the past couple of years. And when you say "sci-fi", are you referring to stories set in futuristic environment? Or are you referring to speculative fiction? (which is what real science fiction is, IMO) There are many of the former, but I personally can hardly recall few that would match the latter.
I would actually push Stand Alone Complex (both seasons) as a top candidate representing both, but since you seem so resistant to that I dunno what to say. Action shows set in futuristic settings? Hmm... maybe Samurai Seven or Bakuretsu Tenshi? (although I personally don't think neither is too spectacular)
Elfen Lied and Gunslinger Girl are both what I consider as speculative fiction, but they're both set in the very near future so they might not be what you're looking for.
And Ergo Proxy is good, if you won't mind something that is still currently airing. You could probably find the subs for first 7 or 8 eps. done by bunch of different peeps.

Eureka Seven too, that's sci-fi, what with the other worldly setting and all. Also a great anime in general =)
As for GITS being better than Gundam, I'm going to assume you're leaving out the good gundam shows like the original, Zeta, Turn A, etc.

Yeah GITS is one of my favs, I meant nothing too obvious because, i've probably already heard of it already. like cowboy bebop, trigun, gundam etc.

both, but more futuristic. I wasn't really clear sorry about that. So yeah moreso in a futuristic setting.

yeah i'm currently watching e7 on adult swim. As soon as their is some kind of delay in the episodes though, I'll probably get it from somewhere else. I haven't watched an anime in English in a while, and the voice acting dosen't seem bad. guarenteed i'll probably be annoyed after a couple of episodes.
Also, a futuristic/action/mystery like snatcher/shadowrun/rise of the dragon would be cool, but I haven't heard of anything like that. Just read a little bit about ergo proxy, and it seems it's like this a little bit(at least the mystery part).
Thanks for the suggestions as usual.

Ok I've watched Suzumiya and I like it  , but could some1 explain the 4th episode? I was just wondering what they were talking about when they talked about "closed space", or what they were referring to when they mention an incident in "the other world", and when the fuck did the second dude join? I dunno i just finished watching the first 3 last night and today I got the 4th and I figured I missed something so hopefully you guys can help me out.

Ok, basically, in the next-episode previews, listen to Kyon's numbering for airdate order and Haruhi's numbering for chronological order.
[Airdate Order] - [Chrono Order]
Episode 1 - Episode ?? (future events)
Episode 2 - Episode 1
Episode 3 - Episode 2
Episode 4 - Episode 7
Episode 5 - Episode 3
You didn't miss stuff; they just skipped ahead a bit, immediately followed next week by skipping back to where they left off. This is to confuse you, make you ponder deeply, and/or make you run out and purchase the novels(if you happen to live in Japan where the novels are sold).
Master Chibi
04-26-2006, 05:49 AM
They skipped ahead in terms of the volumes they took the plot from I believe. Something like that.
With that being said, this odd little 'save the world', 'closed space', 'yuki magic' spin that came out of nowhere is fucking awesome. It's just the perfect TOUCH that the show didn't even really need, but already adds more to the show immensely.
That, and I'm 100% in love with the girl with long green hair who has that little 'fang' thing going. 400% even.
<3
This seems to be the progression so far:
Episode 1 = 0 (didn't really count)
Episode 2 = 1st chapter of the first volume of the novel
Episode 3 = 2nd chapter of the first volume of the novel
Episode 4 = 7th chapter of the third volume of the novel
Episode 5 = 3rd chapter of the first volume of the novel
I'd read more of the novel (I'm still stuck on first), but school is just too busy for me right now.
EDIT: Orr... it could just be what DannyCat already said. But I do know fourth episode is supposed to represent the third novel.

Saw the first ep of ergo proxy and it seems intresting so far. it reminds me alot of snatcher/gits and thats a really good thing. The production values on this show look seriously high, so i'll probably buy the DVD when it comes out here wether I end up liking the series or not. Plus since it's geneon i won't have to worry about annoying voice acting.
I might end up waiting until the series is complete though, because i usually like watching a series when it is totally complete so i could just watch it all the way through. I watch alot of shows, and it's hard to try and keep up with them all. I just dropped house because of this. Plus NBA playoffs are on, shit.
Btw, did anyone here not like Gundam seed destiny? I really haven't seen a gundam show since gundam wing like 8 years ago, and i didn't think it was too special. is it worth watching? I've heard it's the best gundam series to date. I feel like I've heard the ED song from somewhere else. It might have been another anime or a combovid or something
edit: lol, it looks like i just totally missed gundam seed before getting destiny, whoops.

The manga adaptation is currently being serialized on Shonen Ace, and one volume has been released. It is supposedly pretty bad from what I have heard around the web, though. I was gonna buy it on JP Amazon but after I saw the cover art, I was like "uh... okay" and the reviews indicated that the manga is far inferior to the novel, both in story construction and art.
One of the big catches for Suzumiya Haruhi series is the character designs and artwork by Noizi Itoh (who did the design for anime as well), so novel seems to be the only way to go anyway. I still dun know if I like the novel enough to buy it, though. This is only the third series of light novels I've read aside from R.O.D and Vampire Wars so I still need to get further in the story to decide.

They would probably edit all the funny parts like when they drew "Takamura was here" on Ippo's penis
But regardless of that Hajime no Ippo was a really good series would probably make a good addition to mainstream anime for the more hardcore american fans that are now getting into it.
I agree with the rest that GSD was total crap, no one likes Shinn no one likes Stella and Luna well man she changed her mind easy in the mist of war.
I recently watched Zeta and I was really impressed on how good it was but I started watching Double Zeta and it felt like it was some kind of sick parody of some sort...I mean seeing as it basically continues the story from Zeta ,the lack of seriousness in the anime upsets me alot.
I'm hoping it picks up soon.
A few titles I have been watching recently have been Blood+ , Noien and the New School Rumble.

Wow mad GSD hate. Seeing as how i meant to download the original anyways, thats ok. Too bad they had to waste a good ED theme on a show like that.
Question about Noein. It read the description on ANN and it seems like another random teen saves the world from an apocalyptic fate. Is that the way it is? If so, I'll probably wait for a US release because i just saw and/or currently watching last exile, Now and then, here and there, and eureka 7. Or at least wait a couple of months before i get this out of my system. And kids annoy me. Since the series completed last month I bet a torrent with all of the eps is going up in a few anyway. In a couple of months it'll probably have more peers.

Yeah, they'd probably cut out all the cock jokes in Ippo(Big Maru Ippo! ). hmm, that makes me wonder how they handled it on the dubbed dvd versions. I wanna buy one now just to see what they did and to see how good/bad the dub is.
And the guys subbing Eyeshield 21 are either slow or lazy. I swear they skip a few weeks then just drop a bunch of episodes at once. I hate the wait. I'm also watching Slam Dunk (I've had this for a while just never got around to watching it), Yakitate Japan (I have up to 57 on this but only watched like 20 so far), I also need to finish Wild Striker and Monster(I have like 10 left episodes to watch with each one). Eureka Seven is freaking tight. I've yet to miss an ep since [as] started airing it.
I read some Hajime no Ippo manga on my computer months ago. It was enjoyable but reading manga online just isn't the same as having a graphic novel in your hands. Maybe it's because that's how I started reading manga. I'm usually an impatient person, but I'd rather wait and read manga in books than on my comp. But that's just me.
InuYasha has bounced back from it's suckitude. Now that all those crappy filler eps appear to be overwith, I find myself actually wanting to watch it again. The lst ep is ep 167. I lost track of what number the show is currently on on [as], but I think they should just finish the show this year if they have the eps all the way to 167.

I actually really hated Gundam Seed. I can't remember what it was called, but the one series where there was a fighting tournament, that was the Gundam I liked. But Seed, that shit had too much googly eyes and homosexual connotations for me. The only good part was when the main char offed that little blond kid.
It's also noteworthy that IFC is showing Samurai 7 now. I've been watching, and it looks pretty interesting, and the praise it's got alone will hook me for the whole show.

Xabungle and Space Runaway Ideon ftw!
Like Gasaraki already said earlier, Zeta was the last good Gundam series. All Gundam in the 90's was either mediocre or awful with the exception of 0083 in my opinion, and all this SEED crap just sucks.
I haven't gotten past episode 6 in Turn A but that's just cus Ridley Scott's mech designs are so repulsively ugly. Yea, I'm sure most people have not even heard of the series but that's basically why... the whole "ugliness" of the show. I have heard people say it is one of the better Gundam stories overall, though.
Gundam series in general should've just died a long time ago, though. The only reason that shit still exists is for Bandai and Sunrise to sell dorks more plamos. YES. PLAMOS. That is the only reason Gundam is still alive.

And about gundam, I've never seen a Gundam series in full and i'm not really totally digging seed right now. It had a couple of plot twists that have kept me intrested a couple of times and kept the plot from being too predictable and or stupid. but overall the storyline isn't there, and there have already been a couple of really crappy episodes. Oh yeah, That chick with the red hair is just stupidly annoying. besides her there aren't any annoying characters yet, but i seriously think that list will grow ten fold.
no.. when tenma was like, 'your mom told me your real names...' he never said it1 what are johan's and anna's real names?!

Oh, ok the twins names. good question.
Another thing about the ending of monster, I thought it was hillarious that they put a psychotic killer in a room with an opened window, nice work whores.
And another thing about gundam seed. The singer chick is an ok character but why do they have to play her fucking song 9000 times. Annoying.
Like I said... Best anime ever.. With the worst ending ever.
just read the manga then. i've never read or watched monster, but i know the manga is still running and it's pretty damn long... it is most probable that a lot of stuff was truncated in the anime.

Relaxing last night and poppped in Megazone23 and was just reminded why 80's anime is still the best.
I wish there was a company who specializes in releases from the 80's and back. Especially sports.
Readin Ippo this Sawamura/Mashiba fight is too sick. I already know how it's going to end but still. They need to work on OVAs for this series. It's a fucking shame to TVs and DVD players that there isn't more Ippo.
I still prefer reading to TV anyday but still....

Well I just read this page alone, but I love G Gundam and most of the Gundam series, although I hated how disapointing SEED, S. DESTINY and Turn A Gundam were.
Speaking of giant mecha, anyone know when Eureka 7 might start coming to DVD? I have fallen in love with this show and once I move out of my dorm, so long to AS for a while.

haven't gotten past episode 6 in Turn A but that's just cus Ridley Scott's mech designs are so repulsively ugly.
Yeah, that show was just...yeah. Only checked it out cuz I heard Aki-man did the designs for it.
And yeah, just a friendly warning, but everyone should steer clear of Simoun. MY GOD!! A show where hot anime babes kiss several times in one episode...and it still ends up being so fuckin crappy....

Not sure if ya'll know about it already, but a friend of mine just showed it to me and I figured I'd show you guys:
http://www.bravestory.net/english/index.html
I can change my fate if I do through this door. If I fail I'll never be able to come back. Even Still-
I'll Go.
Wataru was your typical fifth-grader, until one day, his typical life came crumbling down all around him. His father left, never to return. His mother, overcome with shock, attempted suiside. Alone in the room stinking of gas, Wataru had only one though: "There's something terribly wrong with my life!" There was ony one option - Wataru had to change his fate. His ind a blank, Wataru recalled something the new kid, Mitsuru, had said. "There's a door at the top of the stairs in the haunted building that can change you fate. but what lies beyond that door isn't something a nice kid like you can handle. "Still," Wataru thought to himseld."I'll go." the door loomed up front of Wataru as he ran into the building.
A Fantasy world of swords and magic awaited Wataru beyond the door. And thus begins the adventure of Wataru the "apprentice Warrior" with a total score of 35 points!
It looks cool to me, I only hope its as good as it looks. oh and its "based on a novel by the rather grim Miyuki Miyabe"
Gonzo better not fuck up with Brave Story because Gin-iro no Kami no Agito already bombed in the theaters earlier this year.

My anime top 10, in no particular order:
Berserk
Shamanic Princess
Now & Then, Here & There
Boogiepop Phantom
His & Her Circumstances
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
School Rumble (yes, this is so out of place on the list, but I cannot articulate how much I adore this show, especially now)
Beck (but fuck that last episode)
Rurouni Kenshin
Samurai Champloo/Cowboy Bebop (which are really just flip sides of the same coin. I think Bebop was better, but Champloo managed to integrate hiphop so beautifully I can't put it below).
In other news, Nana is absolutely rocking my world right now. But fuck some episode 6.

I was reading in the thread at animondvd that there were STILL some extras left out from the Renewal set, but they weren't anything major.
yea i know there no way thata adv has the movies was just saying that be the only way i'll rebuy iy ,but for jacket and for couple extras aren't going grab me. and ya know when blu rey starts take off adv release eva on there.kinda wish adv hold off and license couple shows but oh well.

Did I just see "Ninja Gaiden OAV" on one of those lists? As in Ninja Gaiden the video game?! Because if so...then that is made of win and badass.
And anyone watching Naruto at this point should save themselves a ton of disk space and crappy filler by simply reading the manga version. Manga FTW.

Not me but if you bring it up to anime fans trying to be hardcore that's the response I've gotten on a few occasions. I've seen one of the anime but I dug it. I tend to dig the old-school stuff more than anything. The manga is pretty cool, if cliched.

I hope (and think) that blu-ray and hd-dvd bomb. Yes I would like anime to look even that much better, but then those will be outdated and a new "format war" would happen....
I do like that BR can hold more but still...
Not alot does beat the Samurai 7 box in terms of look. I recently saw an episode (forgot the channel) but wasn't feeling it all. Maybe I need to see more Samurai anime but for me it's all about the Kenshin OVAs, The Hakkenden, and Samurai Champloo....unless Vagabond was turned into an anime but I doubt it could even come close to the quality of the manga.

Well the newer one queen bee. Yeah I thought the older one was pretty good, but the I've heard nothing but bad things about the newer one. I guess you can't judge things that you haven't seen, but It got some pretty terrible reviews.
i saw the Air movie recently. i don't know why but it was just sitting on my hard drive for months so i decided t watch it. I seriously don't reccomend anyone watching anything air, it's just pure trash.
I finished seed and overall the series was pretty good. There was just too much stupid shit in it to put it up there with the better animes released recently(which alot of people seem to think). maybe it was just too long or something, but some episodes were just boring and almost unwatchable. Seems like it would have been alot better if it was shorter. I thought full metal panic was a little better.
I've been watching gravitation on demand and it seems good so far. its pretty funny and worth watching if your into to comedies. If you aren't comfortable with your sexuality though, i really don't reccomend it.
Hey so here's my top 25 list of anime I've seen from 2003 on.
It's not my top 25 EVER, just for the past three years.
:O
1. Scrapped Princess
2. Full Metal Panic : The Second Raid
3. Kaleido Star
4. Full Metal Alchemist
5. Stellvia of the Universe
6. Last Exile
7. Twin Spica
t-8. Maria-sama ga Miteru
t-8. Maria-sama ga Miteru: Spring
9. GitS : SAC
10. Air Master
11. Mind Game
12. Howl's Moving Castle
13. Steamboy
14. Rozen Maiden
15. Midori no Hibi
16. Melody of Oblivion
17. School Rumble
18. Futakoi Alternative
19. Tokyo Godfathers
20. Ah! My Goddess! TV
21. RoD : TV
22. GitS : Innocence
23. Shingetsutan Tsukihime
24. Green Green TV
25. Honey and Clover
I haven't seen half of those! Man I need to up my anime watching a little bit. It's not like i have anything better to do anyway.
Second raid is pretty high though. I liked it alot, but I don't know about that much.
The Professional: Golgo 13. Wow, that brings back memories. That was one of the first anime I ever watched. It was good if I remember correctly. I should buy it. I still like the old stuff.

Eureka Seven continues to own. Just saw ep 6 last night on [as]. Man, I can't wait to see more.
I'm watching Trigun for the umpteenth time. Great anime. But man, was Rem Severem annoying. Yeah, I know Vash learned a lot from her, but good freaking grief, she was too perky for her own good. "Vash & Knives may guide us to our dreams!" Gah. Anyway, I need to get caught up on the Trigun Maximum manga. I've only for vol. 1 and they are on vol. 8 now.
I"s is one of the best romantic comedies I've ever read. It uses a lot of cliches but I still enjoying read it. The artist can draw girls very well. Wish I could find vol. 7 but my book store doesn't have it yet.
Anyone know what book they're on of Hunter X Hunter in Japan? I think we're up to book 8 here in America. This series could be longer than Yu Yu Hakusho. But then, I don't know how many books that series was.

The first couple episodes of Eureka Seven are very stereo-typical mecha style, but it gets very intresting after that. It's much more story and character driven than it first lets on. The action is almost just a bonus considering how awesome the rest of the show is. Stick with it, it's worth it

Yeah, Vagabond is a fuckin sweet manga. Only prob is the author has taken a long break with the excuse of wanting to make sure he can continue the story while respecting it's source. In case you didn't know, the manga is based off a fictional book about Miyamoto Musashi.

One anime that I would love to see is Musashi no Ken. It's one of those animes/mangas that is required reading/watching for those that take Kendo or any sword art. Good progress has been on plans for a Vagabond Illustration collection, but due to things like having time to draw them, having it ready for sale this summer will be difficult.
In addition, I have a strong impression of Vagabond as black and white images.
A color illustration collection is good, but I also want to do a black and white one too... which I told everybody about.
And so...! We've decided to make 2 books!
I'll let you know more as progress continues.
Please look forward to it.
Vagabond #23 is on schedule to come out around 6/20.
I've finished everything from the cover to all the material inside.
It's the second volume this year!
Things are going smoothly... Please look forward to this too.

Oh how I love Eureka Seven. It hasn't even gotten to a lot of action sequences but I love it anyway. In ep 7, they so pwned Renten. When I saw that ramen I was thinking "Man, they are so screwing with this poor kid" Just thinking about it makes me laugh as I type this.
Been a while since I read some manga. Gonna buy DBZ. vol. 26, Kenshin vol. 27 and I"s vol. 7 next week.

...by TokyoPop.
I didn't see anything wrong with their GTO release(anyone care to fiil me in?) but I know they screwed some of their other releases(read that Shounan Gumi was pretty messed up by them) so I hold me breath that they don't mess this one up.

Anyone watching Ju Oh Sei? I really love this anime. I've been looking for a good fantasy (or is it sci-fi?) anime for a LONG time. Seems like it'll have a nice mix of both. Also downloaded Utawarerumono and Kiba, but Ju Oh Sei seems so better than the both of them. To be fair, I haven't even watched more than the opening preview to Kiba. I also stopped watching Noein to until I catch up in Ju Oh Sei. Any thoughts on these animes?
I also have a token fun, or lighthearted, anime called Futakoi Alternative. The full series is sitting on my desktop right now, but I don't think I'm going to watch it soon. Any thoughts on this one?

I watched E7 and for the most part I was bored. It was this one underage kid walking through a bathouse and staring at middle-age men's asses. All this while being followed by a guy named Moon Baby. WTF? No offense to any fans, and I'm sure there's better parts, but I think I'm going to skip this one.

Well, the first episodes of E7 aren't that great, you have to wait a bit for the story to pick up. It gets much more intresting later. But if you aren't going to watch it, oh well, obviously it ain't for everyone.

I very highly suggest sticking with Eureka 7.
The first handful of episodes are supposed to bore you, they're necessary to set even a small foundation for the characters, their setting, and so on. After that it's all gravy, things just blast through the sky (so to speak) and simply never stop. It's an extremely character driven show, yet it still manages to have a plentiful amount of excellent action, and be able to further the engrossing plot.
Please don't dismiss it and give it another try. You won't regret it, and you'll end up loving Renton, I promise.
On another related note, Bones has to be my favorite animation studio ever. I loved Scrapped Princess plenty, but this just takes the cake, no joke.
@ Gas:
I've got a post 3 times as long as this coming later tonight, so expect it!
:D
well yea and adv still has ungoldy backlog of shows they license like 2 or3 years ago, and have yet to release them. and yes now funi can say they have BECK only reason they never said they had it is they looked through each eps and made sure they could get all the songs and yes they have all 100 songs........ think of the sound tracks that could come out with this show..
steve blum is trying to get on the beck project. i was at anime boston this past weekend and got these sweet ass tag necklace things...it says beck in white lettering and on the back its the main character and a guitar i think and their limited edition and numbered n shit.

Couldn't have said it better myself =)
BTW, I found out that the "Complete Best" is just all the full version of the OP's and ED's plus the theme "Realize" by FLOW which is for the PS2 game, and "Niji" by Denki Groove which is the song that plays in the very last episode.

shit, is it THAT good? I've honestly given up hope on anime nowadays and with AX coming up i'm sorta not into going again this yr despite being it's 15th anniversary and all (8th yr volunteer) if anything, sdcc is a FOR SURE deal; Much more variety. There just doesn't seem to be any appealing anime nowadays except the ones I have to finish collecting, that's about it.

Well first off, it's Bones, and Bones tends to do things differently.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_BONES
Secondly it's NOT your typical 'mecha / millitary ' anime at all. Hell it's not even close to being typical, they fucking SURF in the air.
Third yes, it's that good. Better. Please check it out.
Fourth: GAS, I AM NOT CHANGING THIS AVATAR FOR AT LEAST A YEAR.
