Haruka (Older seasoned bitch, who wants to fuck)
Quon (Weird bitch, who wants to fuck)
The short haired fine ass bitch who lost who family, who wants to fuck
The hot pilot bitch, and her comrade with the big tits, who wanna fuck.

After 19 eps of E7 I have come to one conclusion, holland is an asshole.

I actually got that vibe off him in the first two minutes of the first episode. But apparently he will prove it down the line in a bigger way than him just acting like a dick.

Yeah he does, but the good thing is that he, like most of the characters, grows as the series goes on.

Ive never seen it anywhere under $150. A steal if you ask me.

I love that series. I'm still pissed that the ending credit sequence song for the final ep is not the same extended version that was in the VHS version!

Am I the only one who doesn't like Harahui? I usually love the aggressive / bitchy types in anime, but Harahui totally rubs me the wrong way. In fact I find her pretty damn annoying, and I feel sorry for Kyon for having to deal with the bitch.

Also, yes, Holland is an asshole, but it will all come to light later on, just you wait.

Also Also, I haven't seen Mushishishishishis past episode 13.

Also also also, what the hell happened to Magikanno?

No, the reference was in episode 8 where she was going over the evidence.

And don't worry about Yuki; her slow scenes in episode 9 are more than compensated for by her scenes in episode 10. :wow:

Yeah I love me some Tenchi. It was the first anime I ever really go into. That does suck about the ending song. This will be my first time watching the Universe dvd's. I had them on VHS as well, but never got the dvd's until now. I also got the Tenchi in Tokyo dvd's, which I've only saw bits and pieces of before.

Rightstuf.com is having a 33% of sale on all Dark Horse manga.

Hopefully there is a bigger sale down the road so I can pick up the volumes 6-whatever is out at the time of Berserk.

She is pretty much an unlikable character, self-absorbed, domineering, and selfish. I'm sure that will change in ways over time. It has to.

Man, older Asahina is hot.

And thanks to whoever got me randomly curious about Black Lagoon. It started off as "heh, mindless violence" and just started to subtly get deeper until eventually ep. 7 happened, which is one of my favorite episodes of anything ever. BALLS, SON.

Picked up the following manga:

Naruto vol. 10
Kenshin vol. 27
I"s vol. 7

Also got the July issue of Shonen Jump. They had a 53 page preview of Buso Renkin, a manga that is done by the creator of Kenshin. I liked what I read. It's about a kid that gets killed and is brought back to life and gets to use an alchemy sword to dispose of... wait for it... homonculous. The sword he uses is called Buso Renkin. I must may have to pick up vol. 1 when it comes out in August.

Warp, if it was from SRK, it was probably me, I mentioned it a few posts ago =)

As for Haruhi, she doesn't change if you've seen episode 9. You'll notice during the episode previews Haruhi mentiones the number of the next episode and Kyon corrects her, what she's saying is the chronological order while Kyon says the ACTUAL number. So for the preview for episode 9, she called it episode 14 which would be the last since it's a 14 episode series.

I imagine there'd be much more change if you read the novels since there's like 6 of them or something.

She is pretty much an unlikable character, self-absorbed, domineering, and selfish. I'm sure that will change in ways over time. It has to.She's amusing to watch, though. After seeing episode 2 a couple months ago, I recall my two-word analysis of her character being that she was "brilliantly insane".

Actually being with her might not be wholly pleasant, but it'd sure be interesting.

Warpticon
06-06-2006, 10:55 PM
Well, she's certainly amusing. If she wasn't, it'd be a pretty boring show, and she makes it what it is. And her blatant insensitivity heightens the intensity of her rare selfless moments. That doesn't make her likable, though. She pretty much doesn't have any evident redeeming qualities aside from being good looking (which really doesn't come across that well, either, a lot of the time). And at first her "insanity" was pretty unconvincing. It wasn't until ep 5 that I was really sold on the show largely for those reasons.

Harahui was always interesting, but only in the sense that (and this was only for the begining of the series) you were curious as to what she'd be doing or saying next. Once everything was established (plot / setting / characters) she instantly became my least favorite character. I don't like her selfish attitude, I don't like how she treats anyone in the show (especially Kyon), and frankly I'd smack the bitch and be done with her if it was up to me.

About the one reason I'm still watching (even though I KNOW IT WILL NOT HAPPEN) is the hope that there's even a tiny, tiny, tiny little bit of romantic involvment going on between Harahui and Kyon.

Otherwise Tsurura (green haired gal) is my favorite, and older Asahina was absurdly hot, as is Yuki somehow.

Higurashi is pretty good, but I HATE the type of series where it's a bunch of alternate events to one story. I like the mystery aspect, but the resolutions are killing it for me.

Well Borders called me Thursday and I went in to pick up my reserved copy of Dragon Ball Z manga vol. 26. It has taken me 3 years but at long last, one of my all-time fav mangas is complete. All 42 books (DB books 1-16, DBZ 1-26) are in my collection. Interesting, though, in the US manga of DBZ Vegito is atcually called Vegerot (combination of Vegeta and Kakarot). I wondered if he was called the same thing in the Japanese version but I didn't read anything on Wiki that confirmed this.

Anyone know where I can find scans for Neko Majin? Or are there any plans to bring this manga to the states?

well... i actually like sakura taisen games (i've only played 1 and 2 on the psp though) but the anime just ended up being really dull for me. not really sure why. and yea, by your logic i probably shouldn't have watched "ecole de paris" since i haven't played sakura taisen 3. but i think that one i would have hated anyhow. :(

tempest, i don't own many bandai releases so i didn't know. i always assumed of them as one of the larger distributor though (like, maybe behind adv and geneon?). dunno. so maybe they aren't as great as i originally expected... on the other hand it's kinda funny since how i used to think funimation was a really mediocre distributor, yet some of their releases in this past year changed my mind. i hear they still translate stuff somewhat poorly tho.

and dunno. i personally like mai-hime. like, yea it's definitely not kind of stuff i'd rewatch the entire series three times around or anything. but it had its charm and it stood out for a time when moe was oversaturating the market. i particularly don't think the designs in mai-hime is ugly. some of the stuff in mai-otome was definitely "wtf" though. but even you can sort of get past that once you assume that it's meant to be a campy sentai-themed action.

Whoa, I'll qualify myself. Shows this season I've seen have been Haruhi, Black Lagoon, Pokan, Kiba, Soul Link and Higurashi. Shows that I conciously haven't watched are Blood+, Ergo Proxy, Fate Stay Night.

Haruhi didn't hold my interest. I've seen 4 episodes, and by the end of those I wanted to beat the shit out of her, not watch her crazy antics.

Black Lagoon I've seen 6 episodes of. Levi is a fucking ridiculous character, Rock is silly too, black guy is just uninteresting and the computer guy is not even present. It still hasn't gone anywhere, and I can't even imagine something interesting happening to any of them. Rock joined for arbitrary reasons, and the other crew memebers (beside Levi) seem mostly normal.

Kiba sucks almost as bad as Soul Link.

I like Pokan. I shouldn't, but I do. And it makes me feel bad.

Blood+ I didn't bother with, since I heard the beginning sucks, and sucks bad. Even if it gets better later on, I don't want to watch 10 episodes to justify it. Even Gasaraki thinks Ergo Proxy is boring, I already knew about FSN before it began (and the adaptation of Tsukihime was horrible).

Higurashi has an interesting format, and is a suspense-ish series that doesn't piss me off. Each of the story arcs has some value to the overall story, even if everyone does wind up dead in the end. And each arc is different from the last and best of all, I can't tell what will happen by the end. It has its fair share of problems (i.e. Japanese don't know how to make stuff scary. "Oh no, school-girls~!") but overall the series is really something I haven't seen before. I like it as much as I enjoyed Elfen Lied. Not everyone may be able to appreciate it, but for my tastes (extremely picky and specialized) I love it.

But then again, my favourite anime of all time is currently Law of Ueki.

Whatever I might have said bad about Ergo Proxy, which I don't remember, cause I thuoght it had always intrested me, I take back at this point because i find it pretty intresting.

about mai hime well guess different strokes for different folks although i don't mind charcater designs alll that much after seeing gank/monster
i don;t judge show by designs but by content and maihime content pretty good. by the way whats so bad with charcater designs of mai hime?

Well, the character design didn't stop me from watching it, I finished it all, but I just never really liked it. The main character annoyed me heavily both in appearance and character as well.

As for the why I didn't like the designs, I guess... I have no idea. I just hate the artstyle. Irrational I know, but I'm not good at explaining this kind of thing, sorry.

I enjoyed Mai Hime (read: NOT LIKED) plenty until they gave me the biggest pussy ass cop out of an ending in the literal written history of all anime created on this earth.

I didn't go NEAR Mai-Otome mind you, that was pure shit before it even started.

I'd like to see Fate / Stay sooner or later.

Nah, R.O.D. TV was a bit rushed, but hardly a cop out.

Mai-Hime's ending was flat out pussy ass bitchin out. What finally made the series good is what they do away with in a fuckin cheesey ass 18 second long sequence that pretty much UTTERLY DESTROYS what slight credability the show had going (save for Haruka, who is my saving grace~).

anime academy was where I heard this. People there have been very negative of this show the last couple of weeks. They also said its not worth it to sit through all the shitty episodes just to watch the few great ones that the show has.

i could understand somebody entrusting others' opinions on a anime series if it is something that has been out for a while... as in the person having to make a big decision to buy multiple dvd's (or download a batch torrent, etc.). but in the case of fate/stay night, it is a still ongoing series so i personally think it wouldn't hurt to download few episodes and actually watch them yourself before prematurely arriving to a decision.

Eh, I liked 'em. Not to a "whoa, this anime's good!" extent, but still enjoyable. Not as good as the games themselves, though. Which is why THAT is what they should have ported over.

ST3's my favorite out of the series, primarily for the presence of Erica Fontaine. And because ST4 was short. A bit wider than usual, but short. More like an OAV presentation than the season-length format of the main games.

And I have got to say that it is one of THE best animes ever created.

Lots of funny moments, not to mention memorable characters.

It's not a new move, I'm almost positive he's used it before. Anyway, it's a manuever that simply generates a loud sound from the very quick unsheatheing of his sword. What ends up happening is since Enishi's senses are greatly heightened, it basically blows his ears out.

I've only really paid attention to the first ep. The plot didn't seem like it was going anywhere and the main character had to much of a hard on for surfboards lol. If it gets alot better I start watching it again...

Wait until AT LEAST episode 10 before you give up on it. The story starts moving on episode 7 and gradually picks up, then it just gets better and better.

Yes I did and was unimpressed. It was pretty funny though, I must admit.

NIGGA WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATT? \

Where Curtis's head streaks blood on the train was one of the most "OMFG" moments.

Not saying MB34 is better than Berserk(that would be Vagabond...but then that's better than anything, moving along) as a whole but that scene was too beastly.

Sleepy > Guts tho'.

Well I've been meaning to watch Eureka Seven for a while now, but I've been so busy watching/reading other series that I haven't been able to find the time. Finally though, my Special Edition Vol. 1 arrived today and I watched the first 5 eps. All I can say is wow, I've really been missing out. I already love this series and I'm only 5 eps into it. It's so well done. Without a doubt, this is the refreshing change of pace that I've been yearning for in an anime lately. I'm also loving the box & all the extra's. It's awesome.

I'm up to ep. 10 on Eureka Seven, and so far I really cannot see what all the hype is about.

Renton has to be the dumbest 14 yr. old ever; and Eureka... NO chick in the history of mankind was ever that clueless in matters of sexuality (unless she's trying to play that "I'm-too-pure-and-innocent-to-know" card).

Edit note: I will say though, the music in Eureka7 is good. There. LOL

edit: just watched an episode of fate/stay on some random website.. first impressions are reaaaaaally good, i'll be expecting a lot.

since this is my first post in this thread, i'll introduce myself by saying that i seen bebop, champloo, chrno crusade, peacemaker, appleseed movie, and finished tsukihime today. not much, but hey, i just started getting into it. was a waste of my time, not recommended at all, and chrno crusade had potential but was really really average

Well I can't comment on this too much without giving heavy spoilers, but I'll just say that Renton and Eureka develop as characters very well. As for Eureka's personality, there's a story reason for it. Just keep with it, you'll have a very different opinion of them by the end.

I just found my Fantastic Damage CD, and was reminded of two AMVs I wanted to do.

The first one is to Deep Space 9mm. It'd be to Cowboy Bebop or something similarly gun-heavy and space-themed, and would be modeled after the original video for the song, which is crazy itself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNJFq6VjHJI

Just thinking about how dope this video would be makes me jittery.

The second is for Now & Then, Here & There, and would be the ong The Bush, The Nang, The Front, and the Shit.

Fuck, just stick with the series, if they threw everything at you from the start you'd have a series that lasted two hours and then you'd be done with it.

I, of all people know that judging a show by the first handful of episodes is hardly anything to go by, especially when the show goes on for FIFTY episodes.

I didn't know Galabida Hotel had manga for DL. I couldn't stand waiting to see how I"s turned out. I've got the first 7 books already, so I DLed zip files for vols. 8-15. Man, I LOVE this manga. Freaking great stuff. One of my fav romantic comedies. I just may check out Video Girl Ai since it was done by the same dude behind I"s. Despite having read all of I"s via scans, I'm still going to be picking up books 8-15 as the come out.

Anyone else have any manga to recommend?

Yeah what he said!!!!!!!!!!

Shinryukev: The Ten Ten anime is okay(it's easier for you to understand what's really going on in the first flashback than in the manga), but the manga is where it's at. The anime is censored a little and it only really last until the flashback ends, so you'll have to read the manga anyway...

Garasaki: I watch ep 10 of E7 the other night...it has gotten alot better from what it was, but I need to watch more eps to see if I want to stick with it. We'll see...

If its action that your looking for check out Black Lagoon. Its has a lot of action, basically gun play and a lot of trash talk which makes it funny. Its about a businessman who leaves his life behind and starts working with a bunch of mercenaries. Some say it has that Cowboy Bebop feel to it except with more blood and cursing.

Won't say how / why, but you'll see once things get rolling.

I'm also watching it on [as] too, I'm curious as to how they're handling it. For the most part everything works fine (the voices fit in my opinion). Though already they've begun to ruin things a little.

The pink haired girl's name is Anemone, in the original rendition it's pronounced Ann-nay-monay.

In the dub they pronounce it as Ann-nee-moany I believe, definitely not even close. Made me cringe a little.

I like her dubbed voice though.

Also:

People at 2ch were saying that during the concert(especially when using close up views such as Nagato playing the guitar & Haruhi’s screams~) frame rate increases to 24fps, typical OVA frame rate(so if you slow down the clip, you can still see Nagato tapping the guitar with her fingers, instead of some blurry frames); if that’s true then KyoAni really puts a lot of thought in promoting this single.

Seems that ENOZ is actually an homage to ZONE, an actual J-rock band made of four gals with the first letter of the first name deal going on. This is also why in the anime it's four gals and not three like the manga.

Also also:

During much of the show before the concert, you can actually see ENOZ walking around looking for help in their predicament. When they meet up with Haruhui it's actually in the bg with Kyon and friends infront of the shoe lockers and all that.

Sales update: The CD single of the songs from this episode is currently the #1 music CD/DVD on Amazon.co.jp. The upcoming Haruhi, Mikuru, and Yuki image albums were just put up for presale and claimed slots #11-13. Midori no Hibi is the best show about a guy whose hand turns into a girl I've ever seen. Despite a really stupid premise, it's pretty amusing. As is the typical trend, the manga is better.

This show is ridiculously rewatchable even just for purposes of finding all the little details they stuffed in. One I noticed just now: when Itsuki shows up at the end of the first song, explaining that he rushed over in a hurry...his costume is still dripping wet from the rain outside. Also, the single raindrop in the pool thing at 8:13, people drying themselves off as they entered the auditorium at 8:36, and the sound of raindrops hitting the roof of the building in the background, all before we see it actually raining outside.

They must have some people on payroll whose sole job it is to think out every single possible detail they could add or something, no matter how subtle.

Gasaraki
06-23-2006, 02:40 AM
They already hinted that it was about to rain with the cloud cover though. I dont' think that's on the same level of detail as including Haruhi and ENOZ in the background =P

It's not. But it's added detail that wouldn't have been missed had it been absent. If Itsuki had merely shown up dressed as he was earlier, it would have been fine. But they went ahead and made his costume soaked through on the head and shoulders and added water dripping from his hair, as if he'd dashed through the downpour outside. Not as subtle as other things they've done, but enough so that one could miss it on the first viewing(s) and only notice it later.

DannyCat
06-23-2006, 07:19 AM
On the other hand, speaking of details, finally noticed this sign behind Kyon and friends as they walk over it. Photoshopped it out to get a clearer look, and discovered they have the same coffee shop as the one Megane and friends set up in Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer.

http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=megane0um.jpg

I finished watching The Devil Lady yesterday and I was really underwhelmed. The story was pretty absurd, the fight scenes really weren't very spectacular, I think the whole low budgetness of it all killed it for me, or maybe because it just seemed to drag on for entirely too long.

I downloaded Amon Apocalyse of Devilman, and though the version I have isn't even subbed in english I peeped an ill fight scene that has me interested in seeing it all. Anyway I noticed that the guy in that OAV looks a lot like the guy at the end of The Devil Lady, and on top of that he had an A on his shirt and could turn into a Devilman so I am guessing that's Amon. :)

Also there seems to be a live action movie as well, is that worth seeing?

@ Danny:

On the other hand, speaking of details, finally noticed this sign behind Kyon and friends as they walk over it. Photoshopped it out to get a clearer look, and discovered they have the same coffee shop as the one Megane and friends set up in Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer.

http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=megane0um.jpg

Now THAT'S an oldschool subtle reference.

Holy fuck I can't believe you caught that.

Being the absolute Urusei Yatsura whore that I am (especially with that film), my respect for Haruhui has shot through the roof now.

Wow.

Did you watch any of the old school Devilman? Hell, do you understand exactly what it's about?

In Devilman, Ryo and Akira finds out demons from hell are coming to Earth, so they decide that they need to stop them. How? By having Akira become a 'demon' himself. They bait out the demons from hell, and Akira gets possesed by the second most powerful demon in Hell (under Satan), Amon. Akira however, ends up being able to control the demon with him, being as pure, kind, and gentle as he is. He gains more courage and confidence from this; and from then on, they kick ass. Ryo ends up being taken control of by Satan himself, and the complications go from there.

In Devilman Lady, the entire opposite happens. The main character already has the demon within her, and her friend (who has a striking resemblance to Ryo of Devilman) aims to become a god. The main character here stays shy and lacks self confidence / courage for much of the series, crying a good bit here and there over what she's done. As for the guy in the yellow shirt with the red A on it (that shows up near the end), that's in fact an homage to Akira from the original Devilman, not Amon. It was his trademark outfit.

If you ever happen to catch Cutie Honey (the newest revision by Gainax) they threw him in there too, twice, and with Miki to boot! I'll see if I can dig them up again.

Amon is the name of the demon that Akira took control over once he entered his body. In the film, everything that could go wrong with the world does, and because of it Akira loses control of Amon, and the shit hits the fan from there. Excellent film mind you, really damn good, and sets up the begining to Violence Jack I believe.

And the guy in the shirt is again, Akira, not Amon.

Also there seems to be a live action movie as well, is that worth seeing?

As an homage to the ORIGINAL series, it's plenty fun to watch and holds true to much of the original content. CG Devilman / scenes are pretty damn sweet (especially when him and Satan fight, god damn). As a stand alone film though, it's pretty lackluster, and you'd be hardpressed to really understand what the fuck is going on.

<3 <3 <3 for Devilman~

Otaku no Video. I liked it alot more than Genshiken. Not saying that Genshiken is bad(it's awesome) but the drama, story and characters were more loveable in this one.

Not to mention the transformation Kubo(OnV) goes through is more intense and hilarious.

how bout neither and thank me later?

such a shame though the art box for negima is cool has hell.just the show is medicore.

same goes for zone.

reason why people place devil lady higher then devil man is the story and charcaters are more fleshed out, but that might be bcause GO nagai didn;t write the story for the show.

E7 is very good, but i wouldn't say best ever umm no.

ummm somewhat slow pace for gasrakia is kinda being nice isn't? but will say if ya can get past vol3 then your enjoy 4>8.

Yes, I do indeed think E7 is the best anime I've ever seen. It actually has the best development, pace, characters, story, ending, I've ever personally seen.

As for Gasaraki, no I think slow pace is perfect to describe it, it's NOT that bad.

Now i see why you keep the Dude as your av, Gankutsuoh is an awesome anime. Everything was great about it, animation, soundtrack(excpet the op and ed themes), characters, story, etc. This is one of the only anime I've seen were there are absolutely no annoying characters! i knew what was going to happen(saw the movie), but it still didn't take any enjoyment out of the show for me. Now i just have to read the book. All 1200 pages of it(yeah right).

The ninja comedy show 2x2 = Shinobuden is next. I don't care if it's bad, it's about my ninja bretheren.

Edit: Seriously is it bad?
