Elfen Lied is not for those who have weak stomaches either. Wear a raincoat when watching it...lots and lots of blood is shed in this series.

elfen lied does have lots of blood, but the soft nature of the drawing style pretty much prevented any of the scenes from being too disgusting (which was probably a good thing). to me, the psychological dilemma of the characters is what made many of the series very chilling.

RANDOM NOTE - i loved 4 seasons of the original galaxy angel... but galaxy ange-lune is so bad D:

Yea Im into that kinna stuff. The first was ok, but doesnt capture the badass fighting I like. I saw a short clip where alucard drives his fist through the guys chest. I want to be an action director and thats the kinna moves I like to put in my movies (like versus) are there any more scenes like this or was I just lucky watching that one clip.

I'd rather not read through 150+ pages to find this out, and it's simple, so someone please help:

I've always hated anime. Always. Then I saw Princess Mononoke when I was younger, and I thought it was amazing. A few years later, a friend (who knew I hated anime) suggested trying Naruto. I got hooked. In the first week, I watched 1-75 or something. I lost my comp for a few months and just started watching again a few weeks ago. Now, I'm near 180 I think.

My main question is... what other anime is like Naruto, at least in style? Every other anime I've watched an episode or two of (Bleach, One Piece, and so on) all have the typical anime style headshapes, eyes, lack of action detail, and so on. Naruto is really unique and looks nothing like most of the other shows I've seen. Ever character is so unique and doesn't have the exact same look and shape as everyone else. Obviously, I enjoy the story and such but mainly, I just can't stand to watch any other show since I hate how they look visually.

I'm probably spoiled by this show and I know a lot of "omfgAnimeZ~ZZ" fans don't care for it but it's the only one I've ever enjoyed and want more, but one episode a week (once I finish where I'm at now) will be boring.

Thanks.

not to my knowledge adv sent out release dates for shows in feb and march and there wasn't no sign of it. if there was release date it be around spring /summer but honesty thin pack of eva plat is the best bet i mean what more can ya do. only big show adv has plan so far for next year is sgtfrog.

lol @ the overabundance of EVA box sets. I'm surprised they haven't announced a 20th anniversary box already. Might as well stay ahead of your game right?

That's why I'm picking up the individuals for EVA Plat. and Azumanga and Cromartie.

Also something I forgot to bring up. I have never been out of a loophole like now but 8eps and the 1st ep is fansubbed of Souten no Ken. I have the first volume of the manga from 3 or so years back and fell in love with it. I like the setting more in this one than in HnK and that's what mostly drew me to it. Anyways so yeah, I thought the anime was cancelled but apparently not. Probably check the anime out sometime soon....

Anybody of eps.6-32 of Space Runaway Ideon over AIM(not at the same time mind you) and the 2nd Movie as well pretty please! I couldn't be the only person here watching that show....

well yea and look at it when the eva movies comes out in next few years, and i wonder how many times the movies will controdict the tv series.

i wouldn't say that sgt frog will be the show for next year to watch i can think of two shows which could pass that show.

1 The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi . one of the reps of Kadokawa at this years con said that he wouldn't rule out the series comming out her in the states in mid or late next year. i bet it be another joint release by funi, and adv sort like fullmetal 2d raid.

2 death note . its hit show in japan and has huge following here so i wouldn't be shocked if its already license already ( geneon) so maybe next year . although if its viz who has it er... late 07 or early 08.

Sorry to those who missed my point.

The story of Naruto was "I AM WEAKER? NOW I BECOME STRONGER ROFLE L8". I know the story wasn't anything interesting.

I said that animation and such were unique. When I watch most shows, they have the same face, the same hair, the same attitudes (I AM BAD GUY or I AM GOOD GUY or I AM SUSpSICOUS OFMG). In Naruto, everything is just really vibrant, with unique personas and characteristics visually. I just enjoyed the look.

They're alot better than the other crap I had and I'm finding everything to be a hell of alot easier now. Kind of pricey though. I paid 60 bucks just for Elementary Japanese, but buy.com has them alot cheaper and with Google checkout you can get both of these for roughly 35 bucks total. Taking a class may be more fun though.

they are essentially soldiers with special skills the leaf villiage is basically the u.s without its douchebaggyness of the nations. it tries to keep the peace and its power at the same time..doing good will missions as well as big missions and have their skilled elite warriors as well.

Which ones did you have before?

Right now I have Living Language. It comes with CD's and all that jazz and has a the Hiragana and Katakana charts in the back, but nothing really on Kanji. I got these around 2001-2002 when I first decided I wanted to learn the language and actually do something about it.. It's more for speaking tho' and (at least it says in the back) is used by Armed Forces to help them speak it quicker. I wanna be able to read more than speak tho. Only started picking it up again a few weeks ago when I found out there was KinoKuniya here in Seattle. All that raw manga sitting there waiting for me to read...it's a crime if I don't learn to read it.

Probably pick up some of the Bi-Lingual manga they had at KK as well.

The only thing that concerns me is the otaku factor in class. Now I know I'm one but I'm not the annoying one. Know what I'm saying.

EDIT: Do you have a picture of Elementary Japanese Volume 1? I can't seem to get one.

Co-sign on this. I studied Jpnese for just over 3 years. Unfortunately, most language programs (in college, anyway) focus on speaking/listening instead of writing and reading. In my exchange program in Jpn I met a lot of fellow gaijin students who were tight with speaking but sucked with Kanji.

The vast majority of the characters I learned I learned on my own, and that book (along with the second volume, which is also full recommended) was my second greatest resource for learning Jpnese, with the first being my textbook.

its got alot of cliche's, but its ok cuz they take a fresh take on the cliches.

yuske is a walkin cliche but he's sooo much fun to watch. always tryin to see keikos panties n shit like an old man.

kuruma is a cliche...bishonen woman lookin guy and in japanese is voiced by a woman. but has friggen godlike beastly powers locked up...which is interestin how when he was reborn his powers were locked up.

I wish DH didn't fuck with the layout of BoI. It's like the find reason's too give them more work to do so they can charge was the consumer that much more.

On the Japanese side of things. Been writing the Gana characters at work on my breaks as well. Was able to read a little bit of the new Gantz chapter on it's own. Gonna definatley pick up the Kanji Kana book tho'. Good looking out!

Mai Otome isn't that great. Fun to see old characters from HiME play a role though. Also, mandatory ShizuruxNatsuki fap fap fap etc.

On a related note, is it me, but in the Otome OVA... does Arika's boobs seem... bigger? Or maybe it's my imagination?

Currently watching Death Note, Karas, and Bleach. Death Note is by far the best as far as story goes, but Bleach is entertaining and has decent plotlines. I'm still not sure about Karas; it's amazing visually, but the story seems kinda iffy. It won't be done until early next year, though, so maybe the ending will wrap it up nicely for me.

Watched the first episode of Souten no Ken. It's ok. Just re-affirmed why I love manga more than tv anime based of manga since I don't have to wait for 4 episodes what the manga did in one volume.

As far as I'm concerned Snk>HnK. I just love the 1930's setting, clothes and style compared to the Mad Max-esque stuff. It was like love at first sight when I picked vol.1 5-6 years ago. Got catching up to do since it's up to vol.15.....

Well, the OVA takes place a year after Mai Otome ends... so yeah, it's best to wait until you're done watching the TV series.

Man they BOUNCED / JIGGGLED during the transformation sequence.

A year can do a girl wonders in the world of anime.

:shake:

I think she was fourteen during the TV series... which would make her fifteen now. I suppose you're right though... a year in the world of anime can mean a major increase in bust size... though it seemed like it only happened to Arika (lol poor Mashiro~). I mean, they NEVER bounced or jiggled during the TV series, so my only guess is that they decided to magically give her bigger breasts for fan service. No boobs = no jiggle. Oppai~!

Man... how can My-HiME win so much yet Mai-Otome fail so hard? Did they change writers or something?

they are bigger!
furix pointed it out to me and i was like "uhhh what?" but it's true.
i hope midori will make a entrance in zwei at some point. it'd be awesome if she busts out with shin gakutenou or something.

and although it's true that like you say, most of the characters in mai-otome are re-interpretations of characters from mai-hime, most people don't realize that many of them are also introduced from character designer hisayuki hirokazu's older works. i wouldn't have known this myself unless i read it on the japanese wiki for the hime series.

for example, lena (arika's mom) isn't a completely new character in mai-otome. she was originally a character in igpx ~road to infinity 2~ (http://content.imagesocket.com/images/hisayukihirokazu520e2.jpg) for the ps2. likewise, sarah gallagher (member of the five pillars; the blonde with elf ears and mask) is originally from ryuusenshi dendou (http://content.imagesocket.com/images/hisayukihirokazu863d1.jpg).

i can go on and on about others. one major character who i'm not sure where she originated from is mayah brahms. it's possible that she is a new character as well, but i have a hunch that she is from something else.

EDIT: also... nao's meister robe is ugly as hell. didn't dig that at all.

Man, i like Mai Otome more than the next guy, but how the heck did that get "best anime of 2006"?

Especially with Haruhi, H&C2, Ouran...jeez...Otome's main problem was the lack of character development. Thats a huge part of any series, so the fact that its weak point is that should automatically take it out of running for best series.

Thats just me though, then again, im a way bigger Haruhi fan than a Mai Otome fan, so that could be something that has to do with it.

And again, its just that one guys opinion. Obviously he's a huge Blood+ fan, and i can definitely see the bias.

The reader poll looks more realistic with Haruhi first by a lot, then Ouran by a solid amount, and then a bit between F/SN and the next series. Over 25% of the votes were for Haruhi, amazing.

Chao got challenged by Ku Fei to test out her new mechanized arm and all of the sudden, 3S's super and life bars came out of no where. In addition Chao was doin' a super move that looks a lot like Area's (SF EX2) lunge punch super.

I'm begginin' to think that the makers of this new Negima series are big Street Fighter fans.

oh yea another that comes to mind with different verisons is speedgrapher.

i'm pretty sure that bandai going keep the same music, and all,

i can't see how bandai could market for haruhi go to tv, i would think sgt frog has better chance be honest.

sucks that pot is going air on toon soon, and cartoon network skipped ippo which honesty has much has i love geneon.... the dub for it sucks so kinda glad.

which i already explained that i think it kinda sucked that cn would air pot, instead of ippo. which now i'm happy that geneon don't try push harder for ippo air on tv the dub alone would scare fans away.
but would love see how ganku would had done on AS.

i'm sure another reason is that cn brought sublicense for pot is alot of there high profile shows are viz/sho shows . heck i wonder if viz try push honey and clover next.

ell pot started as an experiment on cn's lil youtube rip off...they probably think pot is more well known...and wanted to compare rating to internet viewers and tv viewers to see how much of a viable option is youtube like streaming.

the only minor gripe from bandai is couple auido issues with maihime, but there so small its really nothing to whine about unless you have heavy tricked out soundsysetm and know what to look for.

but really i'm looking forward when bandai brings it out, next year that black lagoon, and beck which looks be around spring/summer timetable,.

I think that Haruhi has a good shot with the casual American anime watchers. It's not that heavy with Japanese references, unlike Azumanga Daioh. The series has it's scenes where it appears to be normal then all of a sudden Haruhi makes things more entertainin' for the better. The only thing the casual anime fans may gripe on is whether the DVD release are goin' with order of aired or chronological order. Choosing either one will have either then casual non-Haruhi knowing watchers to be dismayed or potentially lossing the existing victims of Haruhism.

Personally, I hope that the DVD will show in order of aired that way the series won't die midway in The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi VI.

HeartNana
12-26-2006, 05:41 AM
DJ- Imma have to disagree. Watch episode 9. Half of that episode is literally Yuki sitting in a room with Japanese references. While it doesnt mean Americans wont like it, i doubt that the casual American will find Haruhi that awesome. Especially if they air it/release DVDs in the same order that it was aired in Japan. People will watch episode 1. Not understand it at all. Then not care about the rest of the series. Episode 2 doesnt have much going on either. Things start to get fun in ep 3, then ep 4 randomly comes in, and most likely, that's one disk right there. While already-Haruhi fans wont want it changed, you know that casual anime watchers are gonna be like WTF.

I've loved ever since I laid eyes on the raws a few years ago(around the same time vol.1 was translated in English). I'm talking about actually reading it tho' and understanding it in it's original language. I've actually finished reading the english versions(which they changed the story around) awhile ago. SPOILERS AHOY!!! (I do it like this cause I can't remember the spoilers code)

After Date relinquishes the title, he takes on the world stage, then finally goes up against the number 1 in the world, Ricardo Martinez. He puts up a solid fight, but doesn't do any significant damage at all to Ricardo, while in the process he got his jaw smashed, the bones in his hands broken to brittle pieces and in general takes the ass whooping of a lifetime (the sad part is that Date is actually the BEST challenger to challenge Ricardo since...ever, more or less, which means everyone else got off worse).

After the match, he is hospitalized, retired, and did a "baton pass" to Ippo.

After the match, he is hospitalized, retired, and did a "baton pass" to Ippo.

END SPOILERS

Yeah. You should see that. I'm not sure about the details, cause I only got into Ippo this year, but it's been going on forever. You can even see how the art changes significantly (especially in Coach Kamogawa's case). Highly recommended.

I'll check it out definetly.

CC sure loves pizza.

Haha, you did the same thing I did.

I wonder how much Pizza Hut paid for all that blatant promotion.

Karen >>>>> CC

I'm with Warpticon on this... Kallen >>>>>>>>> CC. Funny thing is... Pizza Hut probably paid a lot for the blatant promotion, but their pizzas still suck balls.

MC, I counter your CC with my Kallen. Sadly, I couldn't find any good, sexy fan art pictures of her.

Just started watching Macross 7 and at first I thought that this was gonna be sick. I love the semi retro animation and the mechs don't look to bad either. But after the 3rd episode it just started to piss me off that the main guy only thinks about singing in the middle of a battlefield with a mech that shoots speakers...:wtf:. What waste of time.

Currently watching Super Robot Wars OG: Divine Wars which is actually quite recent so it looks pretty cool. Also gonna get my hands on Macross Zero (which supposed to be quite decent) and Escaflowne (always wanted to watch this one).

Mac7 is actually really good, but you have to build up a bit of a tolerance for that ridiculous aspect of the show. And you haven't watched Escaflowne yet? You should make it practice to watch anything with a Yoko Kanno soundtrack, because it's pretty much guaranteed to be ill. (except Brain Powerd, because really, who gives a fuck about Brain Powerd).

Death Note...

Starting watching it...

Saw all 12 episodes... I need more...

I need the manga.... Is it completed?

Could someone PM me on where I can DL it and approximately what chapter of the manga would correspond to the latest episode.

I know about stoptazmo but I don't think they have all the chapters but I could be wrong.

Thanks...

I have been meaning to write something like this for a while now...

You see, it sickens me that all people ever do is ever talked about that is 'great' is action this, action that, all shonen overrated load of garbage. I know, by saying this here, is like putting myself under the guillotine and have roasting (word wise) session with my words against all of yours. But I seriously want to hear the answer to the question. "Why?"

What is it that makes Naruto so good? Is it because that everybody likes it?
What is it that makes Bleach good? Is it because of the action that is of a Naruto clone with minor differences? (I still prefer Bleach over Naruto anyday)
Why was it that Dragonball Z, an extremely overated and medicore anime, got so many high regards a few years back?

I'll admit, I was once on the mainstream too a few years back. But not too far in to the game, I jumped off the train and found it to be not my cup of tea. I started off where most anime fans started: the Local Station where they broadcast these so-called popular animes (In my case it's YTV in Canada). It was Inuyasha, and like most people, I begin to like it. Later on, Gundam Seed makes a shine ontop of the stage, it instantly became one of my favourite anime of all time (this however, does not include it's sequel: GSD. It is just a disaster). However, I found it less amusing seeing people getting hurt real bad and turns out 'ok' since he is just 'that good'. It just doesn't seemed to be my taste. I liked some action, but I want some realism and some stories of human compassion and love. I kept asking myself, if I liked Witch Hunter Robin and Gundam Seed, what is stopping me from liking something like Naruto and Bleach?

I started a search for something that I like, then I found the infamous Shojo-ai anime, Kannaduki no Miko. I watched it, I found it to be a good anime, but not on the action part. The action, if anything, is nothing short of TERRIBLE. Those who watched it will know what I mean. However I still liked it because of the relationship between the two main girls. I started to head that direction, build firmly on the Romance part. I eventually found 'Onegai Teacher', it showed me many things that I have never seen before: It made me realize that deep, emotional feelings of a pair of lovers or family is more powerful than all the blades, guns and gadgets money can buy. I decided that this is the kind of stories that I want to watch. I still liked a little bit of action, such stories would be something like Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Mai-Hime, it had the story that showed me why are they fighting, not just blindly to gain power in many animes that I have seen.

From these so-called 'bad sappy shojo anime' I seen how powerful can love and emotion can make a person. It can make them stronger to wield the swords and guns to fight, but at the same time, it has the power to cause a person to lose the will the fight and in some cases, to give up his/her life.

So my question is, why don't people watch it more often? And if they do, how come they are less known? Why don't they show it on Adult Swim more often? Why?

I await your answer.

I recently read that on an anime board. whats your guys take on it?

I'm sorry but Bleach is in an entirely different ballpark then Naruto. Naruto had plenty potential at the start, and it WAS going somewhere, but now it's just dragging its feet along.

Bleach has been hot shit from the get go. It's only rough point was the entire soul society arc, but even then it still kept up the same quality.

People who refer to Bleach as a DBZ / Naruto clone simply because it's action don't have a fucking clue what they're talking about.

I'd agree there. I was reading the forum and its like why would i watch romance and drama anime for? I mean if your watching something like bleach or what have you, isn't that sayign that you are into action base anime to begin with.

I think the person who posted this is just bitching and moaning about every one not sharing his/her opinion. Oh well that smy take. thanks for answering chibi

What do I think about that person? Why waste time complaining about your tastes being different from the so-called mainstream? Eh, whatever. They don't show it more on Adult Swim because AS has a mostly male demographic, and the idea/point is to show stuff that isn't necessarily kid-friendly but still worth showing. And really, speaking as someone who has probably watched a tad more straight-up shoujo than shounen, it's really the same shit, different toilet. The formula in shoujo is probably even thicker, in fact.

The american populace makes shit mainstream its not even japan. American fans are a totally different beast in terms of favorisitism. Naruto was bigger here than japan before it even premiered here...thats saying something.

Naruto and bleach are what i like to dub as technique driven animes/mangas. They build a whole intricite world based on tehcniques that are dope to me. Dbz didnt do that, just a basic way in the beguinning on db but once dbz hit that really went out the window.

I love technique driven animes.

Are those soap opera anime? Or are those action anime? Mai-hime has everything in it. I let some a few people borrow it and they all like it. Its moslty action, I like it cause you never know what is going to happen, the story got me hooked to it, those people complain about "blah I cant watch anime unless they have good characters blah blah." Piss me off cause most of the anime they watch is all drama borring shit with way to much talking.

Well, i'm a fan of the romance/comedy/drama type anime. So i agree with him about those being good, however, he fails to realize that Americans arent nearly as big into them as the Japanese are. In addition, simple series like To Heart and such started off at dating sim games in japan turned anime, and to Americans, the first they would hear of it would be the anime or maybe a manga. Its a very different world because so many of the romance anime out there have a game that goes with it, but that sort of thing doesnt really cater to American audiences (unless it's a Harem/comedy series like Love Hina or Ai Yori Aoshi)

However, he's wrong in saying bleach is a naruto clone. Premises are completely different. Granted, they're both action, but thats like saying all romance animes are the same, of course theyre gonna have romance, but saying something like "Air is just a Kanon clone" is the same level of dumb as saying bleach is a naruto clone. Theyre different series, while similar, still different. But i think he was trying to just make a point that similar series that are action sell well in the US, which is true. Naruto/Bleach/DBZ are far more popular in the states than the To Heart series and the Da Capo series could ever be (both are REALLY popular in Japan). The gap between Naruto/Bleach/DBZ and ToHeart/DaCapo is way larger in America compared to in Japan, cause all the Japanese have the games as well and all the merchandise.

Which brings up another point, Naruto/Bleach/DBZ are a few of the only series that HAVE licensed merchandise in America. Even though Mai Hime is now out in America, i doubt that theres gonna be like, anything in terms of merchandise. And going to an anime store here, you'll definitely find plenty of Mai Hime stuff (though Mai Hime is more action/romance than romance/drama)

But pretty much, America likes action based anime more than romance/drama based, and he's not happy about it. Its o
