Clamp is indeed a team of four female artists.
Also Higurashi and Elfien Lied are not harem anime by any stretch of the imagination.

I may have to watch it now.
Being home sick and iserable = anime marathon. I watched all 13 episodes of Zero no Tsukaima yesterday, and I'm up to ep. 20 of Busou Renkin (Not as good as I expected, but interesting enough to keep watching). I may catch up on a couple of shows I've kind of forgotten about tonight--Nodame Cantabile (both versions) and Red Garden.

hey. looking for really good anime to watch. mostly comedy genre but action and everything else is good. just nothing sad, depressing or too dramatic. haven't watch anything in a long time. I need suggestions so I can download it. if you could be so kind as to give me some titles.
now before you go flaming me "search noob" or something like that I did, but search function but fail, since, if you think about it, (typing: best anime to watch) can come out with sooo many threads and I really don't feel like wasting my time to read through everything to get a few titles (not when I can be watching them.)
thanks everyone whether you help or not.

How are Higurashi and Elfen Lied not harem anime?
"The prototypical harem anime features a number of characters, usually with a minimum of one boy and three girls whose personalities are often stock characters popular in moé fandom. The term does not necessarily imply sexual connotations. Most members of the "harem" have some level of emotional attachment to the lead, ranging from romantic interest to casual friend to a sibling figure. And Chibi has no idea what he is talking about.
Just because they are good series doesn't exclude them from being harem shows.
Master Chibi
03-19-2007, 09:08 AM
It's because either show is good that I didn't label them as harem.
To me harem (shows) has a negative connotation to it, and I wouldn't use it to describe either show (even though Higurashi itself came from an H-game), but if you want to be completely technical about the matter, yeah you could label both shows as harem.
Like Ai Yori Aoshi is harem. Dual! is harem. Chobits is harem. And all three of those shows suck ass.

What's up with the current state of Lupin and Geneon? All we got was the second TV series and a few movies from them. Funimation put out the TV specials and other movies.
It'd be nice to get the first TV series. I heard it was pretty good and I saw like, 4 minutes of it and it looked good.

How are Higurashi and Elfen Lied not harem anime?
Just because they are good series doesn't exclude them from being harem shows.
A harem show is usually classified as some sort of romance sub-genre. Typically they're romantic comedies, but sometimes they have mild drama thrown in (lol, shuffle) or ASSLOADS of drama thrown in (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien). While the male leads in both Elfen Lied and Higurashi have "love interests" and many of the support characters are girls, it's hardly the main focus of the show or to the point where it actually becomes a romance anime. Graphic violence, intense drama, and disturbing stories/images/plots are all the last things you'd EVER see in a harem romance anime.
Speaking of "harem" anime, I finished watching Kanon a few days ago. Oh man... to the max, but I loved the series as a whole. The ending was wonderful, and now I see what the whole hoopla about Kanon is about. The story was great, the characters are deep and superb in their own way (even if Makoto was annoying as hell... the last two episodes about her choked me up a bit), and the animation was top notch. I'm just glad it ended happily, unlike AIR which left me feeling quite sad (though not as depressed as Narcissu... that damn novel left me depressed for DAYS).
Of all the Kanon girls, Mai was by far my favorite. Her character design was freakin' awesome, and hearing her say "honey bear", "chubby racoon", and "Doggie. Woof." was probably the most MOE thing I've ever seen... EVER. Her story was by far the most intriguing for me... even if everything pretty much tied together with Yuuichi and Ayu's relation... UGUU~
...course I'm probably the only person here who watched Kanon... or admitted to it. ^_^;
Master Chibi
03-19-2007, 11:09 PM
Nah, I watched all of Kanon as well.
And if I'm not mistaken it's not what actually happens in the game either.
I loved the series, and I'm really happy for the ending we got, but it's like 23 episodes of pain and suffering and great drama and then *~POOF~* all better yo.
And I enjoyed all the gals, but Ayu was my favorite for certain.

Were... were we watching the same series? Elfen Lied was entirely about that main dude's relationship with the girls. He even had like 3 more girls in the manga. All the shit about the vectors was just to explain why people were getting torn up.
Higurashi? All about the relationships between Keichi and those crazy girls.
Dude living in a house with a bunch of girls that want him to bone them, but he doesn't for some reason = harem anime
Show were the dude has different ending scenarios with the females = harem anime

My general "censored" avs are from hentai game CG sets. Most of them are from Fate/Stay Night.
As for my av, it is Rangiku's tits from Bleach. I wanted to animate it with the sparkles all sparkling and such, but there's a slight pan up which makes it difficult to center the image on her huge bubz. In other words, not worth it. There's another shot I had in mind of animating, but I've been lazy and haven't got around to it yet.

Nah, I've mentioned it a few times in this thread, earlier when it was still airing, but almost nobody else was talking about it then either. It's a comfortable show to watch; one of the few I can marathon without getting bored of. Of course, as a student in an animation department, the supreme quality and attention to detail in this show plays a large part in that, too.
As for favorites, I like 'em all. Mai probably a little bit further out in front than the others, with Akiko close behind. But it depends on which arc I'm watching at the moment.

And I finally watched Chobits. Damn, that was great.
Is Haruhi still not fully released over here? I watched that last year.... damn....
Coyote Ragtime Show was pretty good. The ending was a little abrupt, but the series overall was a nice change. The pacing was fast enough to keep you excited the whole time, yet left enough room to push the story in. Kinda reminded me of Ocean's 11, if you know what I mean.

Twin Spica
Play Ball (cute baseball anime that I had completely forgotten about but need to pick back up, because I enjoyed it.)
Yakitate!! Japan (the old manga conflict thing again)
The only thing is.... the manga just isn't complete without the MUSIC! Man, a manga about a band just leaves something to be desired without the capacity for sound, ya know? No matter what, the anime is my favorite with Beck.
Which is great, except for the fact that the anime is two years over, and the manga is still going. If not for that, I'd be right with you.
Incidentally, that's another reason I should be watching Nana. Nana is essentially shoujo friendship drama + Beck. (It's awesome.) It has to be that much better in anime form.
Expect to see me ranting about Nana a lot in the coming month or so.

2) anyone know of any plans for more "ghost in the shell" anime? i saw the last movie and really really dont want the series to end :(

Has anyone watched or heard of a show called tokyo tribe? I came across it this week. the story isn't too amazing so far but the blend of hip hop, fights and random violence makes some good shit

BTW.Is Anime basically the Japanese equivalent of American sitcom's?
Because there is so much of it,Japan would have to have as many channels as American T.V. to cover all of it.
And btw,I am watching Tokyo Tribe right now,and its pretty good, but do you know where to find it subbed?

What's with this Code Geass anime?
Honestly how good is it? I'm usually one to believe the hype and this one seems hyped like no anime since Evangelion.
According to this one site it has a 9.9 out of 10 rating. At another site where I can get it it is the most discussed anime on the site.
This shit came out last year so obviously it hasn't been distributed so should I reserve precious gig space on my computer and snatch it?

Hype? Who gives a fuck about hype? I started watching Geass because of a screenshot, liked it okay (enough to stay on it) for a couple episodes, then started really getting drawn in about 6 eps in. I'm not much into mecha shows at all, but this is a mech show that doesn't really feel mechy. Think more Escaflowne than Gundam or whatever. No, it's not perfect. It has some annoying typicalities to it, but then it goes out and just...man, 22. I did predict that it would be slow for a few episodes, and then get really crazy around the late teens-early twenties...I don't think I've ever been so right about anything ever.

Bleach and Naruto seem fine long as they're follow the Manga's actual story. So I guess that's evidence they can do it without slaughtering the style of it.

maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe if it was done as an OVA.....maaaybe.
The manga-ka has stated he wouldn't mind it as long as it was as detailed as his manga.
When something like a manga becomes animated it can loose a HUGE amount of detail in both art and story. Examples being (but not limited to) Crying Freeman, Mad Bull 34 and Tough.

03-29-2007, 01:19 PM
Well, the biggest problem with Destiny is that the characterization is almost random. The guy I liked the most turned out to be the bad guy and there wasn't much of a hint of this until later on when they hit you over the head with a blunt "HEY HES EVIL" instrument.
Tack that on with what Zazz said, random resurrection of Mwu la Fllaga, Kira being the resurrection of Heero Yuy, a main protagonist who doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, and real painful "People die if they are killed" monologues and you have one crappy piece of shit.

If you're familiar with Tsukihime, it's pretty much a story that's somewhat of a precursor to the events in Tsukihime. In other words, it's more fucking awesome stuff by Type-Moon and will surely be made of win. While Tsukihime was a blunder on their part, my faith in TM was redeemed with Fate/Stay Night.

Don't know if it's ever been mentioned in this thread(due to it being over 150 pages of whatever the hell you talk about in here), but to all looking for a good down to earth manga, Genshiken is the way to go. I seriously forgot about this book up until I went to BnN on tuesday, which happened to be the release date of the 8th book. Its probably my favorite manga of all time, and I've read a bunch. It's extremely funny, and pokes fun at the lives of a group of otaku, rather they be drawing porn or trying to find a job.
You could find it on gotlurk.net if you wanna download it, but I'm pretty sure you guys already know that site, being that this is "that" type of topic.
Also, I am rewatching the entire Tenchi series(minus Tokyo) for the 4th time now. That is seriously one, if not the best anime I've ever seen. Ever.
edit: After searching the thread, I kinda noticed that Genshiken has come up quite a few times in a couple of conversations. But it seems as though everyone is talking aobut the anime, and not the book, so got out and read that manga pliz.

Finished season 1, Träumend, and the Ouvertüre OVA and now I'm left hoping that there's a season three in the works or something. :shake:

I honestly can't remember where I got it. Probably d-addicts.
no, wait, I just found a torrent of the whole series on tokyo toshokan, so there you go. Most of the first four episodes happen in the first drama episode, though some stuff is left out. EDIT: and by left out, I mean hasn't happened yet through 1.3 episodes, but probably will. (Actually, the attention battle looks like it may be skipped, which is not much of a loss.)
No...it's Nodame Cantabile.
Thanks dude, I found the torrent you were talking about but there seems to be an error with it. Oh well I'll look around, though it might be tough seeing as it has the same exact name.

It's extremely funny, and pokes fun at the lives of a group of otaku, rather they be drawing porn or trying to find a job.
edit: After searching the thread, I kinda noticed that Genshiken has come up quite a few times in a couple of conversations. But it seems as though everyone is talking aobut the anime, and not the book, so got out and read that manga pliz.
I'm a big fan of the manga, but due to a few things that the actual translator doesn't know about, his anime/manga translation references are off (don't even get me started on the fighting game stuff in one of the volume's extras...) Apparently the last manga volume will be volume 9, I'm looking forward to it.

Falling Edge, Hit up GotLurk. There are still volumes missing tho' but unless you can read Japanese that's your only bet. Or track down the colored version (in English) that Gutsoon was bringing out.
Might wanna check out Souten no Ken as well, which is the prequel to HnK. IMO, it beasts on HnK like nothing in both story and art. Not sure if there are groups doing English scanlations, tho'.

yeah, dramas are live action. there are several manga/anime series that got drama interpretations, with varying degrees of success. GTO is perhaps the most well known, and my favorite incarnation of the series, despite the stuff that gets switched around and that never gets gotten to. Ace No Nerae, Kimi Wa Petto, Gokusen, Hana Yori Dango, and more that i can't think of offhand exist.

no, but the box is awesome!!
you just have to see it for yourself. the panoramic window on the side... the top loading lid... patterned interior... everything about it is so nicely detailed. i own around 90 anime dvd's, but i can say without doubt that this is the nicest box i own out of all of them right now.
now i'm actually even glad that bandai usa released such a shitty box with the first dvd, because this replacement we get with volume seven is just way beyond the quality of typical collector's boxes.

well, it technically is a compilation since it does reuse a lot of old clips. but it is also a remake since the movies redefine and reinterpret specific phase of the original series.
so that is what i was kind of referring when i called "lovers" a full of wtf :arazz: :arazz: in my previous post. i'm not going to spoil, but for some people (like me) lovers was kind of disappointing because it bent camille and fau's romance in a really weird way. it made a lot of fangirls happy, though.

Also, has anyone seen This ugly yet Beautiful World? I kinda got to the 9th episode and lost it somewhere on youtube. It was a pretty average series, although there have been people that have told me the anime was genius. Anybody know why?
Oh SNAPS, I just remembered something. If you haven't seen Iketeru Futari, see it now. It's hands down the best anime I've ever watched(although there are 13 eps and each is 5 minutes long). WHAT. THE. FUCK.
SERIOUSLY. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN THIS SHOW ANYMORE. I'M ALMOST FUCKING SPEACHLESS.
Episode 22 I knew what the big spoiler was, given that image boards spoiled Euphie's killing spree of Japanese, but I never expected Lelouch's Geass to never turn off this early in the series. Of course it had to be at the worst time possible, accidentally ordering Euphie to kill all the Japanese. What shocked me even more was when Lelouch ordered the Black Knights to kill Euphemia, despite that it pained him to kill his own sister.
What I find amazing is Lelouch's resolve to see everything through for the sake of Nunnally. A shit ton of stuff hasn't exactly gone according to plan, including losing Shirley as his friend, realizing Suzaku is Lancelot's pilot, and having to kill Euphie. At the end of episode 23, it's clear that he's willing to sacrafice everything for Nunnally, even killing Suzaku in order to get what he wants. There's a fine line between genius and insanity... and Lelouch definitely walks on that line... almost proudly.
Episode 23 fucking blew my mind. Now, I wasn't 100 percent shocked that Euphie died, killed by Zero, but I wasn't expecting for things to MOVE SO FUCKING FAST. Holy shit. In almost an instant all of Japan's Japanese were fucking owning everyone. At the cost of Euphie's life and some thousand Japanese, the whole country is pretty much in a bloodthirsty uproar. Let's recap.
Euphie dies
Lelouch pretty much goes crazy
All of Japan is instantly in chaos
Lelouch's army is HUEG LIEK XBOX
Nina is apparently working on some uber death machine
"Orange" guy is back (not really that shocking)
Marianne, Lelouch's mother, is talking to C.C. somehow
Viletta is GONNA GET RAPED
Princess Kaguya is moe~ <3

yeah i noticed that when i tried playing some stuff before. I used Media Player Classic alot before then when I was at EA a guy who gave me Full Metal Panic told me to use VLC to play mkv's since I couldn't get them to play. and I just started using it more than classic. plus I just got a new comp and I was too lazy to find all the codecs again. perhaps I should go back.

Anyone else besides myself looking forward to it (the second season that is)? :lovin:

Woah woah woah, there's a second season?
Hell yes, I loved Zero no Tsukaima.
I didn't like Louise in the begining, but I totally fell for her in the end, though I did want the guy to fall for Sieasta (whatever her name was, SHE WAS A MAID AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS).

Indeed there is!
It was made official sometime in December of '06. Here's a link. (http://www.moetron.com/2006/12/20/zero-no-tsukaima-2nd-season-confirmed/)
And this is, I believe, the official site for season 2: http://www.zero-tsukaima.com/index2.html
The first episode for season 2 is/was scheduled to air April 2nd. All we gotta do now is wait for a fan subber to pick it up!

I honestly checked out the series on a whim (solely for Louise), come the first two episodes I was kind of "meh" towards it, but eventually I got hooked.
I agree with you about wanting Saito to hook up with Siesta, I'm not a fan of big bubz, but she's extremely likeable as a character. As for Louise, I fell for her at the start. :lovin:

Shit, Code Geass is fucking up my rotation right now.
I'm right in the middle of watching xxxHOLiC and now I got my hands on Code Geass. Shit that first episode had some girth. Now I don't know what series to finish first.
It seems like it's trivial, but I like to concentrate on one anime series at a time.

I like to follow series as they come out--"oh, new episode! *watch*" "Oh, new disc! *watch*"
But other than that, I prefer to follow one at a time, which I end up doing by marathonning them in a day or two. I did watch the first 18 episodes of Monster over 2 months, and the remaining 56 in four days, for example. I watched all of Scrapped Princess in one night. I watched all of Zero no Tsukaima (season 2? AWESOME) in a day. I just watched all of Nodame Cantabile drama - episode 1 in a 16 hour period. I think you know what has to happen.
