What are some good fighting series? I'm getting tired of Naruto and I know almost the whole story for Tenjou Tenge.

If you are into more serious/realistic Anime, I recomend Ninja Scroll TV Series. The budget for this Series was very high, you don't have to watch the Movie to follow it(but you should still see the Movie), the villains are even wilder than the Movie, and the series ends in a way you wouldn't expect.

The New Fist of the Northstar OVAs are... not that good, but I'll buy the official versions anyway because Fist of the Northstar needs the support in the US. We never go the entire Anime Series, the Director's cut of the Movie, or the complete Manga(Raijin Comics dropped out of the US Manga scene entirly) so Fist needs the love. I prefer the TV Series over anything, which I have Fan Subbed. Still, nothing beats the original Manga.

Whatever happened to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Anime series being released in the US? I got the first DVD, and haven't seen any other ones in the stores since. In the US, they were supposed to released the New JoJo series First and the older Series second, since the Manga was never released in the US, the story would flow better for us. Anyway, what happened?

We just gotten Chrono Crusade and FOTNS OVA at work.

The box looks good and good price, but sucks because it doesn't include anything extra besides the DVD. Wow, FOTNS OVA only holds 3 dvd's, that series is hella short.

We are going to get Ikki Tosen soon, I like that special package deal with the Bead and the towel ( Im a sucker for awesome Gift packaging ).
I'll try to watch it, im a fan of fan service.

only reason to pick up ikki is the pencil borads there the reverser covers of the japanesse dvds which showboobs and etc. for show itself i'll rank it under realbouthighschool thats how bad it sucks . i will pick up cc/artbox since its sturdy kind and seems be good show. i hope that peacekeepers and dnangel boxes are sturdy has well.
just order Stellvia ,Paranoia Agent and Tsukihime from righstuf since they have geneon sale wish it was 40% off could finish off alot of backlog shows.oh well hope for bandai/mediablasters sale soon ^_^ huge kudos for bandai releaseing 2 gundamseeds dvds bimonthly with ghost in shell andwolfrain. peace

Anyone that wants more info on Elfen Lied, just PM. The series is too good.

I actually read up to chapter 222 of HxH the other day, and that series had a few sketches of Naruto in it. It was by the guy that did Yuyu, and the series is highly recommended. But the current arc is very, very similar to the Cell saga of DBZ.

I need to finish up Beserk. I'm only on Volume 23 or so. I need another long-running series to read. Any suggestions, people? GANTZ, Beserk, HxH, Naruto, OP, 20th Century Boys, and Monster are all under my belt already, and tenjou tenge is hella not my tastes.

good till 26 of this month. its very realibe i use it the most.

i would get gundam seed its far better then wing. and the dvds are bimonthly and seeing the release format you get 2 dvds like vol2 and 3 comming out oct,4and 5 out in dec.

stabby nice manga list hmm i don't know how to add something thats above that level . now anime might want try Paranoia Agent (yes i'm hyping this series to the max) and might want try
Requiem from the Darkness i hear its very good for being such a unknown show.
i still say that geneon makes the best boxes.. (looks at the Stellvia box)

and yes you can mod your dvd but depands what kind player and all.

but i need say this
r2 dvds cost ALOT MORE then r1 like like 60 on up for dvd which have 2 or 3 eps and have no subs, but the animation level is superb , and the packaging is awesome to but to me in my opinion i'll stick with r1 dvds more eps and less money. peace

Does anybody know when the Noth American movie theatre release for Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is ? I saw a commerical for it a couple of days ago. I'm anxious to watch this after seeing the original Ghost in the Shell. I've heard some dissapointing things about this one though, mainly what characters appear and when they appear in GitS 2:Innocence (if you've seen the Japapnese release on DVD (with optional subs), then you should know what I'm talking about). So what I want to know is, is this movie worth watching?

I've heard some dissapointing things about this one though, mainly what characters appear and when they appear in GitS 2:Innocence (if you've seen the Japapnese release on DVD (with optional subs), then you should know what I'm talking about). So what I want to know is, is this movie worth watching?

In New York City it's playing in 2 Theaters. One on 42nd Street between Seventh and Eight, another on Houston St. Between First and Second Ave. It's playing now, started last Friday.

Is it worth seeing? Yes. Any and all Anime released in Movie Theaters that is not based on a Saturday Morining Cartoon needs the support. What's good for the Anime industry is good for us, makes it more accesible to the public.

But aside from that, I really loved the movie, even better than the first one. The first one followed the Manga and if you've read the Manga, there wasn't too much of a point in seeing the Movie. This one worked between the Manga, between Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2, and was not a cheesey sequel. What I mean is, they did not hurry up to get a fake Motoko Kusanagi but made Batou the main character. They did not re-fashion Batou and making him stronger, bigger, cooler, it's the same exact Batou. There's lots of other great stuff, but I don't want to spoil everything. The story is really great, a must see. More for people who like Pat Labor Movies with all the dialog, I'll point out. If you are looking for 2 Hours of straight up action, look elsewhere.

Besides all of this, the visuals are spectacular. There will be times you will think you are watching Live Action.

I will say that I prefer the TV show - Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex to both of the Movies. It gives you the best of the Manga World and the best of the serious looking Movie World.

A side note - No matter where you go, the Movie is in Japanese with Subtitles. While I found the speed of the Subtitling OK because I can keep up/am used to it, my friend who is not used to subtitles couldn't keep up. How can you tell if you are up to speed on reading subtitles? If you saw Hero in a Movie Theater and thought the subtitles were too fast, you are not ready.

Ah... well, when I was at an anime con I saw one or two music vids that featured Ai Yori Aoshi and it looked like something I might enjoy since I'm into that romantic crap. I also saw a few music vids of Please Teacher and it looked really... weird. But I'll give it a try too. Thanks.

Please Teacher is also highly reccommended by SMB. I wasnt to hot on it, but he loved it.

Finished watching Big O Season I (Box Set). Pretty cool in the way it combines Batman and Japanese robot/future stuff (plus the underlying memory story). I haven't seen any of Season II, does it finish the story (no spoilers please).

Also watched Tokyo Godfathers. I'm not big of the non-action Anime (why watch it when you can watch live American TV like South Park, Chapelle, Reno 911, CSI, 24, etc), but it was a really well told story.

I don't have a personal computer, nor do I purchase series when they first come out (for the most part, some exceptions). I think its cheaper in the long run to just wait for the box set. I already have the first release of Neo Genesis Evangelion (Box Set), and I'll just wait till the Platinum is collected. A good example would be Excel Saga. I can get it for $57.99 at Best Buy vice paying the $20+ it cost to buy each of the volume. But I'm just rambling...

Elfen Lied is like... Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Tenchi, and Chobits all mixed together into a series.

Basically, its about this guy and his cousin, and then this catgirl-ish thing shows up and lives with them. Only she is some sort of experiement... and, well, you'll see if you watch the beginning of the first episode. its incredibly gory, and cutesy, and disturbing all at the same time, while still being really candid.

Subs are by anime-fin. Hint hint.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW FOR NAURTO FANS!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISJK!!!

I just started reading vol. 4 of Naruto. I've had it for a while but I've never gotten around to reading it. Since I just finished InuYasha vol. 19, I figured I'd stay on my manga reading kick. Naruto vol. 4 started off AWESOME. He's so ticked off that Sasuke is "dead" that he starts fighting using the power of the nine-tailed fox demon and Haku is getting his butt schooled. I guess the Naruto series is really hitting it's strides in vol. 4. It's also the most graphic I've seen the series get. When Kakkashi killed Haku by mistake, I'd never seen so much blood in a Naruto book.

s.a.g.a how do you like monster so far?

Since I'm a mainly an action oriented anime fan, though time has only allowed me to catch the first three episodes, Monster has proven to be a great change of pace.

A little slow paced at times, but really good. Everything is fleshing out well so far.

and yes give gungrave 2d chance after 2d vol i'm hooked.

Oh, I fell in love with Gungrave from the second episode, (It was sole reason why became bored with Naruto) but during that time, I had gotten my hands on a copy of the game it was based and pretty much spoiled myself by beating it, so I've neglected the series since then. I definitely have to finish it.

Any noteworthy recommendations? GantZ and Champloo monopolize a good amount of my spare time.

Stuff I'm currently watching (SPOILERS ahead):

Samurai Champloo- Wish the damn ep. 17 would come out already...the last one was boring as hell up until the end, and then just when Mugen's about to whup ass, they screw you with "see you next week!" Also, starting over from the BEGINNING?! Boo.

Cutie Honey OAV Ep. 2- WHAT THE HELL. They should seriously just make this into a effing yuri and be done with it. The nudity and such was for the most part in good humor...but then they pushed it. After that whole retarded fanservice thing with Honey and Na-chan naked and in a VERY compromising position ("Please Honey, feel my heart...." Horrible.) I'm certain of a few things:

- I'm damn sure Na-chan's a lesbian.
- I'm almost certain Honey's a lesbian.
- Seiji had a video camera taping the whole moment.
- With point 1 and 2, I'm almost certain they're gonna get together in the end in some horrid "cheesecake" way that makes lame otaku cream their pants.
- Gainax should die for disgracing an anime/manga legend with their BS.

I'm interested in buying a few new boxsets. Can anyone provide feedback on the following:

Devil Lady
Banner of the Stars Vol. I and II
Soul Taker
Please Teacher

Devil Lady - Bleh, its just Devil Man but suckier
Soul Taker - wierd ass anime, stylish, sorta boring
Onegai Teacher - Ah! My Goddess with aliens instead

SEIKAI NO SENKI 1+2 - Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars is by far my favorite anime series... (unless I watch it again and it loses that 'effect') if you liked CotS you should like the 2nd series despite them being about different things. SnS is about the war in space, and SnS2 is about them surviving on land again. Still both are amazingly well done, since theyre really from this series of novels.

And on a side note of Naoki Urasawa's Monster...
The anime is one of the better manga->anime conversions, its like the manga... animated. Really really well done... "fleshed out" barely covers the extent that the entire story is developed... One cool part in the manga was every volume has a chart of all the characters linking how theyre all connected... And every so often it just expands and expands yet maintains its firm grip on where everything is going. The only problem is... the anime still has a long way to go. The pacing feels good for the story, but not how its only on ep 20 / 70 or so... Trust me, its worth watching/reading, but you may want to pick up the manga if the cliffhangers get to be too much after awhile.

And ROD rocks, I hope they wont censor anything and that the voices wont suck... even so, it will still be pretty cool.
Giant Robo... SWEET

noir is very good if you liked first 9 eps your going love the rest i can't remember has chole shown up yet? its been about year and half since i watched it.

Chloe shows up in episode 10. I'm currently up to episode 23. 3 more episodes left. After finding out what happens between Mireille and Kirika I was like WTF?! LOL.

The only thing that dissapointed me was the lack of blood. For example, in one episode, Kirika supposedly gets shot in the arm because you see that there is a hole in her clothing (probably from a bullet that passed through and missed Kirika). This leads me to believe that she never actually got shot. But in the very next episode, you see her arm all bandaged up and she is still in pain, which leads be back to believe that she did get shot. But where was the blood from the bullet wound when she initially got shot? Same thing goes for when someone gets stabbed, be it a knife, sunglasses, or a fork LOL.

I know the director probably wanted to make this a tasteful anime but a litte more blood wouldn't hurt. Other than that, I think Noir is a really good anime.

Chloe shows up in episode 10. I'm currently up to episode 23. 3 more episodes left. After finding out what happens between Mireille and Kirika is was like WTF?!

I know the director probably wanted to make this a tasteful anime but a little blood more blood wouldn't hurt. Other than that, I think Noir is a really good anime.
thats way he wanted it i believe.
i agree that last flashback threw me i was like no way!.
you have watch R.O.D tv its very very good!

I'm watching Trigun right now. I just finished watching Vol.6. Need to go cop Vol. 7.

I noticed the story has been kind of following the manga. It just seems different in some ways.

I probably won't be getting any new Anime for awhile as I just started taking online courses and took advantage of the Toys'R'us buy two get one free sale (I probably bought like eight games...)

Tempest - first ep didnt have The Paper and I never bothered catching the rest, cause the next 5 successive episodes had a mediocre review, but since I hear that it changes pace and gets better, I am rethinking my previous decision of not wanting to see it. Plus I saw a cap that had the first bit of the Read or Die manga.

And the naruto anime is bleh. Id read the manga, and rewatch the good fighting eps in the anime.

Well, I finished watching Trigun last night. I guess as a series, it was okay (a grade of B). I looked at the first manga I had from Darkhorse (and a copy of Maximum whatever on the newstand), and it seems like the events were out of sequence. Though Tempest is probably right about it being pretty faithful.

I think the story and characters did a great job drawing me in to its world, as I don't know how many times I screamed kill the mozzletot Vash.

Does Maximum Trigun begin a new story?

Well, I still have a stack of series I need to watch, so I don't think I need to buy anything new just yet (besides I'm currently taking two classes, which should be my focus):

X
Serial Experiment Lain
Gasaraki
Record of Lodoss War

Tempest,

Like I said I'm going to hold off on buying anything. I've been spending a lot of money and I just started taking classes. I didn't appreciate most of the Trigun DVDs having only three episodes a disc. Keep in mind I bought the $14.99-19.99 discs. And before anyone cites Japan would pay $45 for one episode... I live in the U.S.

Discs I'd like to cop:

Big O Vol.2
Ghost in the Shell Innocence
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex
RODTV
Evangelion Platinum
Technolyze
Last Exile Vol. 4-7

Spiderjericho
11-01-2004, 04:16 PM
I thought Trigun was good (probably a B). It reminded me of Ruroni Kenshin in that the main character made a vow not to kill and wanted peace for everyone. I realize the show is pretty old, but I thought I'd give it a chance, since I've seen on this board and elsewhere that it was extremely popular. My only gripe was the large investment it takes to purchase the whole series (14.99 to 19.99 for eight discs). In comparison the upcoming Nadesco and Bubble Gum Crisis discs are a steal (in that you will only need to buy three discs to complete the series).

HellSap
11-01-2004, 04:36 PM
Trigun is funny, and thats what brings in the fans.
the hero is cool and powerful enough to appeal to male fans, and girly enough sometimes to appeal to the female fans

Trigun manga and the anime are a bit out of order, Maximum happens after he blows up part of the moon, and stuff regarding that is a bit out of order, like he meets everyone in the gang before the angel arm happens...

Trigun(Slayers and Fushigi Yuugi, too) IMO was one of the shows that got more popularity than it deserves, because it was out during the mid-90s anime boom. You can mix watch episodes, and not really miss much in that show. A big part of it is crap with all the typical anime quirkiness. Not really a must watch show, but it's alright I guess.

Have you checked rest of the series.. The first few episodes were alright but ionno. they kind of repeat themselves over and over, sorta like ranma. But that's just what I think. I'm not criticizing you or nothing for liking it. I liked a lot of it, it's just that a whole lot bigger parts of the series were waste of time.

Beck is great, though the slightly bad English from Ryusuke and Maho is kinda annoying. But it's to be expected since this was made for a Japanese audience and they did a pretty good job on the English when you think of it that way. I'm just hoping that when they do the songs, that they'll live up to how good the manga says they are.

- What's the best way to get the word out? I want a lot of people to come, but the only thing I can think of is putting up flyers on the walls of different buildings/bulliten boards.

- What kind of anime should I show? I know I want to show something that's good for girls and guys but I don't know if I should show movies or anime... and if I show anime, if I should limit it to short series (12 episodes or less) because I want people to be able to miss a day of the club and still be able to watch and know what's going on the next week.

- What should I do about annoying people? ...you know the type.

Re: Getting the word out
Word of mouth advertising is the best way. Just stick with putting up flyers for now. You'll have to bear with low turnout for a while but if the people who come like what they see, they'll bring more people with them to subsequent showings.

Re: What anime should you show
I would show TV shows because if it grabs their attention, there's a good chance that they'll come back to see more episodes. Always show at least one "girly" show unless you like sausage parties. One anime you MUST show is School Rumble. You cannot go wrong with this show because guys AND girls can enjoy this (or so thinks my biased male views).

A sample viewing schedule (these are just examples, you could replace them with anything that's remotely similar) could be something like...
- Godannar (something for the guys)
- School Rumble! (something for everyone)
- Maria-sama ga Miteru ( something for the ladies and guys who like teenage lesbian slurping)

Re: What to do about annoying people
Nothing. They come with the territory. You could find out what their tastes are and show the completely opposite.

Flyers are good, but show up to other geeky clubs and hang around and tell peopl ein those clubs what you are doing. (movie club etc..)

As for what to show, you have to test the waters and see who shows up. If its a bunch of people who all they know aobut anime is NINJA SCROLL or something retarded like that, you might want to stick to showing recognizable stuff like GitS or Kenshin or something..

As far as annoying people, get used to it. Annoying people love anime.

I'd like something comedic, or something "Sakura Diaries" like. Or something sillier like Rei-Rei: Missionary of Love. I like series more than standalones. After watching Rei Rei a long time ago, I had looked for some genderbenders, any help there? (Am I strange?)

Don't say Ranma...I just sold 4 VHS seasons of it.

1. What do I buy?

2. What do I BitTorrent?

Right now, the only thing I'm BT'ing is Tenshi Na Konamaiki, and I'm current on it's releases, at 42-43/50 eps translated.

yeah download tenshi na konamaiki, its a funny anime. And BUY kare kano. Great anime.

If you;re looking for figthing, try hajime no ippo and if you want racing, of course get initial D. But get the japanese ones, cuz i heard the american ones changed all the songs so it kinda sucks.

I second Genshiken.

Surprisingly good, and it mentioned CvS in the first episode.

And in the second episode GGXX#R is in the opening animation. 4th Episode has a Jam cosplayer. Throughout the whole manga there's been lots of fighting game references, funny stuff.

SWEET! Hopefully we will get FotN the whole TV series. Anyways today was my first anime purchase in like...forever the last anime I bought were Captain Herlock(Harlock) vol1&2, I got a $50 gift card for my bday for Best Buy. Initially I went to go buy Viewtiful Joe(been meaning to buy this for the longest time) but then I saw it was $20 so I browsed their anime section and finally bought the New Fist of the North Star vol.1+box(been meaning to buy this forever as well  ). HOLY SHIT this fucking ROCKED! I remember trying to download it when it first came out on fansub but since I'm retarded and can't get the shit to work yet, I'm forced to wait forever for them to make it over here. I enjoyed the movie and the TV series of what I've seen anyways and I've really wanted to collect the series on either dvd or manga but since Manga didn't bother to bring the whole TV series over I was stuck watching them on Action. Well I got off track but I just wanted to mention I was fucking floored woth this and can't wait for the other two to come out.

Hrmm I got to read some more of ichigo 100% up to volume 11 or whtaever... Umm I hope it starts to get better, cuz last couple volumes were ass. Although I like tsukasa ummmmmmm I have a bad feeling its gonna be something gay like they are just gonna show her a lot so they dont have to show her later on and move onto other characters. Which is gay cuz i cant belive they are added even more characters to it. Its getting ridiculous, also some of the situtions are getting pretty stupid. Hopefully the volumes after this are better.. =[

I checked out some of that stuff. I D/L'd Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. it was a pretty good series. Too much crying. But still good. I may burn it to DVD Player readable DVD-R.

Koi Kaze. If Ididn;t know any better, Id say the guy is wanting his sister pretty bad, plus you give that taboo warning. After BT the whole 1st Vol in a package, I don't think this is for me, or anyone.

His and Hers... the words are too common, so searches are fruitless, got a link to anything about it?

Seen Initial D long ago.

I'll aslo pick up Vol 2 of AYA, hopefully all that silliness introduced with the blonde girl is toned down.

Any other suggestions people?

Also, last month at the Midwest Mass fighting tourney, there was a game on PC being played, called Melty Blood REact. I saw some of the things possible, and asked the guy to burn it on DVD for me. So, I come to SRK after a long hiautus, and see threads here about this game, which I thought was some unkwon shit.

The point. At Suncoast, I saw an anime with a girl on the front, And it appears to that Arucid Brunsteid(SP) chick from MB. And then I look on the back, and a boy in a school outfit, who looks like one of the Shiki brothers, and a blood pattern, and lastly, on the bottom, it said Type-Moon. It says this when you start the game.

Am I correct in assuming that this anime (I can't remember the name- cause it wasn't Melty Blood) is alteast based off of it, or is the Anime version of Melty Blood, and if so, is it good?

I'm not sure if I understand it myself, but I think the Melty Blood/Tsuki Hime version timeline goes like this:

1st- A dating sim type game is released- this is the first incarnation of Melty Blood/Tsuki Hime
2nd- Melty Blood fighting game based on the dating sim comes out and is popular
3rd- Tsuki Hime anime based on the dating sim comes out
4th- Melty Blood ReACT (kind of an expansion pack of the regular Melty Blood fighting game) comes out

How is Peacemaker? I was going to pick that up from Suncoast yesterday. I haven't watched much anime in a long time -- Cowboy Bebop and Lupin III are the only animes I can watch over and over again and not get tired of.

Got sick of Naruto quick. Completely lost interest in Initial D. Thought Samurai Deeper Kyo was garbage. I plan on watching Berserk in a while.
