hokuto no ken was always a bit too campy for me to watch it seriously, though... i personally think most people just make too much big deal out of it.

Does anyone have the main themes for the xxxHOLiC opening (19) and endings (Reason and Mayfly)? Hook a brother up, I can't seem to find those anywhere.

I just finished watching xxxHOLiC and I must say it was very disappointing. This was by far the longest it ever took for me to finish an anime (well over a month). Usually I can pound a 24-episode series in five days tops.

I kept waiting for xxxHOLiC to kick my ass and it never did. What the fuck kind of ending was that? Nothing fucking happens.

An anime has to bring it at the end. I want to be mad, angry, anxious, excited. I want my balls to be all tingly. I want to feel like I was punched in the gut and got off a rollercoaster ride.

xxxHOLiC's ending was so bad it is right down there with Evangelion and Boys Be. There's no delivery. At least Evangelion has the movie to wrap shit up and Boys Be implies what happens to the main character's relationship.

But fucking xxxHOLiC had so much unfufilled potential. Somebody familiar with this series (anime or manga) please tell me that the anime was rushed before the manga was complete.

When I have to use a PC for internet(except right now) I go there instead of using the one here at my place(long story, but it lead me to get off my ass and learn to read Jap. instead of relying on Scanlations and official U.S. releases). They actually fall from a cliff. It's explained that if two people experience impending death together, there's a small chance that their souls are exchanged. It's a fantasy anime though... so it doesn't need to make sense. MOE GIRLS KICKING ASS = WIN.

In other news, I watched the first episode Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann this morning. Love the fact that it's high-res, but the first episode was pretty good. The characters have a lot of personality and the animation is very smooth. Takes a bit to get used to the style animation... it seems very similar to FLCL's. And since it's GAINAX... lol second half of the first episode = fanservice. Good stuff though... I'll be watching it this Spring season. :)

It was the episode where there was some actual freaking romantic progress between Miroku and Sango (the most important ontop of that), and they flashed back to a previous episode where you just got this fucking delicious right in the camera ass shot from Sango. I mean sure you can prance around in barely nothing but it takes a real hot number to be able to be rocking a fucking body suit, that shit is absurdly sexy. Couple that with the Tsundere personality I typically fall for and the infatuation just came rushing back.

out of curiosity, has anybody here panning tenjho tenge actually read it? and i don't mean flipping through couple of chapters. i mean all the way up to at least chapter 99 of volume 16. i own all of it. in original japanese soft covers.

i actually like the turn tenjho tenge took after the "f" saga, since the story has definite structure and direction compared to when it originally started as another "high school fighting" manga.



but to be fair, here are what i see as 2 main problems for people disliking tenjho tenge:

1) it's not a shonen manga -- although the basic formula makes it seem so. it's a ultra jump serialization aimed at readers 17+ years old, compared to mangas in shonen jump that's primarily aimed for audience base of 7~13 years old. thus the pacing will feel rather slow if you're used to reading kids action manga like dbz, naruto, bleach, once piece, hunter x hunter, etc.

2) oh! great likes to use convoluted words and expression that's very difficult to understand if you're not japanese. he also makes frequent and obtuse references to japanese history and literatures. these elements are problematic for both the english readers as well as translators, and have probably contributed to some readers being turned off on dialogue-heavy arcs of the story. even the scanlations done by fugu (which are probably the best you can find online) has glaring errors from what i've seen.

it can be a bit convoluted..especially the last flashback saga..but this manga is awesome and epic..and the art is very refined. especially around volume 12...that was like peak of awesomeness..he reused his dress design he did in tekken resurrection for the battle with bob.

Can't remember how many Trigun's there were before it went Maximum. I think 4 but it's still the same continuation.

The only volume I read was Trigun Maximum #4. I was at the library and decided to just check it out and already loved it more than anime(which I own).

That makes one of us. It's just too grandiose of a plot to translate properly to us ADHD Americans. I can say that I understand the story pretty well actually, but I suppose I'm deeply in the minority. All I can tell is that there will be the tournament, and this will cause the continuation of that war and all the "powered" people will have their powers magnified. I'd appreciate it if you could clarify it some more plz.

PS: Oh Great rushed quite a bit, especially the Feudal Arc, and I fear that TT is being phased out by Air Gear in Oh Great's mind.

Theres also another version of it thats only in SFA1 the japanese version, which also doesnt appear to be on any sound tracks ever period gayly enough as I think its the coolest version of it....

I just started attempting to watch Bleach again. The last time was almost two years ago. I just don't... get it. This is literally the concept of the show:

"Hi, I can see ghosts. I have no idea why. Then, I became a Death God, and now I'm already one of the best."

I'm only a couple episodes in and I while I enjoy it, the concept just baffles me. I've watched plenty of other anime/read lots of other manga, and usually, they are based on a stronger foundation for the story.

I'm not judging it as good or bad based on that, I just found it odd. I assume it will be explained later, but it doesn't seem like it. I still like it thus far, though.

It does get explained somewhat, but only if you make this large assumption:

You have to assume that Death Gods can inherit powers from their Death God father or mother. Knowing this, you can guess where Ichigo got his powers from...but then that doesn't really explain Chad and Inoue's ability to see Hollows, nor the (non-Death God) abilities that they acquired, except maybe a strong desire to protect their friends.

The problem (?) I have with Bleach is that no one really dies even though the characters take some fatal-looking attacks. It seems that's changed lately, though.

could be alot of factors, like there wasn't much manga out yet when they set up the anime, for tt . which i think is one of the main reasons i mean madhouse studio 9 times out 10 follows the manga when there doing anime converstion.

airgear... toei animation did that and well i hate that stuido more then anything else. so i couldn't tell there reason.

Exactly, especially the last two sentences. I can hardly stand watching an anime that's nothing BUT fanservice, it's just completely pointless and kinda irritating. Also, I don't mind it if the exposed female comically hits the guy who saw the goods a few times, but if the series consists of ONLY that shit, then it's really annoying.

I think Code Geass is a good example of properly done fanservice. Nothing really big or forced, it just felt like some subtle bonuses to throw at the fans - the way it should be.

3 eps of beck already air in canada in dub ,and yes the dub is very good its landmark for dubbing in 07.

i was kinda put off by the art design for the box at first,but starting warm up to it can't be has bad has giant robo, and kenshin boxsets*worse ever* in design and lay out for dvds ever.

i wish we were getting cds intsead of picks, for each dvd release, but the license fee for music cds were very high, and i'm sure funi spent alot money alone just to get the rights on all the music in beck. so yea this show, and Mushishi, when they cry and rozen madien are the shows i really hyped for .

you can still get kamichu! vol. 1 with the box at most best buy i think. you will most likely need to buy vol. 2 ~ 4 online, though (that's what i had to do).

i got no idea when it'd be released just a as a individual boxset. but i actually think the kamichu! discs are worth buying individually since they came with really cool stuff. the vol. 1 with box came with wallscroll and 4 (or 2, can't remember) pencil boards, and the rest of dvd's came with 2 pencil boards each.

you can still get kamichu! vol. 1 with the box at most best buy i think. you will most likely need to buy vol. 2 ~ 4 online, though (that's what i had to do).

i got no idea when it'd be released just a as a individual boxset. but i actually think the kamichu! discs are worth buying individually since they came with really cool stuff. the vol. 1 with box came with wallscroll and 4 (or 2, can't remember) pencil boards, and the rest of dvd's came with 2 pencil boards each.

Has anyone heard about Darker Than Black? It's being fansubbed and it looks like a pretty promising series. Actually, the whole spring line up looks pretty good. Like Lucky Star, Tengen Gurren Lagan, Bokurano and Heroic Age. There are plenty more, but I'm pretty content with what I'm watching now.

People either don't remember the series or get it's two English incarnations (Battle of the Planets & G-Force) mixed up. THE TWO AREN'T ONE IN THE SAME. THEY'RE TWO SEPARATE ADAPTATIONS OF THE SAME MATERIAL. This is why I wrote this G-Force entry on Wikipedia, to try to forever end this confusion. Even though ADV recently dubbed and released the entire first Gatchaman series (all 105 episodes), I'm still partial to the old "G-Force" dub despite it's flaws.

Well it happened, I think I've grown a liking for Lucky Star. I know everyone here has practically come to hate it, but I'm on episode 4 and I personally don't find it all that bad (minus the Lucky Channel segments).

Dialogue may seem forced at times, and the first episode was indeed very drab, but at the core of it all it's a simple and charming slice of life series. I dig it. Nothing amazing, but a good filler (for me) till Zero no Tsukaima 2 comes out.

Plus I'm 100% sold on Konata, why can't there be girls like her IRL? :shake:

Just finished ergo proxy today.

I must say, it was a good anime.

I had mixed feelings about Ergo Proxy, the storyline was decent, but some of the episodes were just terrible (ie: The "Happy Land" episode) and the ending just felt kind of rushed/awkward to me.

The characters were very likeable though which was a real plus for the series.

So I watched the first episode of Romeo x Juliet today... and I'm in love. The opening scene alone was fucking amazing. It looked like art in motion, and combined with the excellent score, it gave me some chills. Reading the sypnosis before hand, I realize that the anime would have a fantasy twist to it, and... oddly enough, it works out very well and doesn't seem out of place. A huge floating island, noblemen using flying mythical horses? Sounds and looks good to me.

I noticed they changed the story around a bit as well, with Juliet being hunted down by the Montagues after their castle was overtaken several years ago. Funny how they had Juliet sneak into the ball room dance party, rather than Romeo.

I simply LOVE the OP and the animation for it. Very, very fitting for this lovely little bit. The ending animation and song is a bit "eh" as a choice for a drama-romance, but it didn't bother me too much. My only concern about this anime is that it's from Gonzo... and I hope to god they don't somehow fuck up the ending to a 400 year old play.

I don't know about all of you, but I'm looking forward to the Romeo and Tybalt fight. <:3c

I posted a while back about not being able to really get into Bleach, but then I started trying to get through it and ended up loving it; I'm around episode 55 now.

I'm trying to find something new... I've read through various pages of this thread but there are too many to cover. I want something new that's fairly long, giving it a long time to develop characters and plot, rather than most animes I've seen that end around 25 episodes. Is One Piece any good? The concept doesn't appeal to me but it's fairly long and I've had it recommended before.

I just watched the first 3 eps of Hajime no Ippo and I'm loving in, so this will probably keep my interest for a while. The next series I'm working on is Death Note.
